STEP 1: UNPACK THE SHEER
Make sure you have clean hands or wear disposable gloves when handling LUMINETTE® Fabric.
To avoid wrinkling, do not fold the sheer or drape it over furniture.
•One or more LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers may be packaged in a carton.
•The fabric panels are rolled around a cardboard tube. Do not remove the protective wrapping
until you are ready to attach the fabric panels (Step 4).
•Remove the SOFTRAK® Headrail System and mounting hardware from inside the carton.
•Remove the foam supports from the tilt shaft inside the headrail. Rotate the supports in either
direction until they can be pulled off.
•After unpacking the sheer, check that you have all the necessary parts for installation. Keep all
the packaging until the unit operates to your satisfaction.
NOTE:
With wider sheers, the SOFTRAK® Headrail System may be shipped separately.
INSTALL THE TRAVELLING WAND (Optional)
If your sheer was ordered with a Travelling Wand, it may be necessary to attach the wand to the
SOFTRAK® Headrail System. If so, refer to the illustrations and follow the numbered steps below.
1) Slide the cover off the top of the wand and remove the hook.
2) Attach the hook through the stem at the end of the scissors track.
3) Slide the cover up over the hook and stem.
4) Attach the wand to the bottom of the hook.
Squeeze the flat part of the wand against
the straight part of the hook.
5) Slide the cover down over the hook and
the top of the wand.

STEP 2: ATTACH MOUNTING BRACKETS
MOUNTING REQUIREMENTS
For proper operation, the SOFTRAK® Headrail System must be mounted level. Use a
level to check that the mounting surface is level and smooth on an inside mount (Reveal fit), and
that the bottoms of the installation brackets are level and aligned on an outside mount (Face fit).
If necessary, shim the brackets to ensure level mounting.
NUMBER OF BRACKETS NEEDED:
The number of mounting bracket units provided with each sheer depends upon the ordered width,
as shown in the table below.

BRACKET SPACING:
Bracket spacing is the same for face fit, reveal fit, and ceiling fit installations.
Place two brackets on the mounting surface so their centres are 89mm in from the ends of the
SOFTRAK® Headrail System.
CAUTION:
Be sure to use a minimum of two mounting brackets per shade, to ensure proper
function.
•Space additional brackets, if supplied, evenly between the two end brackets. Use all the
mounting brackets recommended in the above table.
•Measure and mark all the bracket positions.
FACE INSTALLATION
BRACKET PLACEMENT:
The top of the sheer aligns with the top of the installation bracket, not the
removable tab. The tab serves as a spacer to prevent the brackets from being
mounted too close to the ceiling.
Removable
Tabs
For proper operation, the sheer must clear all obstructions, including window
cranks, and mouldings. Replace protruding window cranks with T-cranks.
Use additional spacer blocks or extension if more than 13mm clearance is needed
Spacer
Block
89mm Vane Size:
Requires a spacer block with a faceplate for 13mm clearance. Three additional spacer blocks
may be added for up to 50mm clearance.
120mm Vane Size:
Requires three spacer blocks with a faceplate for 13mm clearance. One additional spacer block
may be added for a total of 25mm clearance.
•Insert the screws through the opening on the front of the spacer block. Slide one bushing
over the end of each screw prior to securing the spacer block to the mounting surface.
•Attach the spacer block to a flat, vertical mounting surface at least 29mm high.
•Add any additional spacer blocks required.
•Hook the top of the faceplate to the front spacer block and snap into place.
•If more clearance is necessary than can be gained with spacer blocks, use extension brackets.
•Add Optional Components - Extension Brackets

USING SHIMS ON FACE FIT INSTALLATIONS
After installation, visually check along the length of the SOFTRAK®Headrail System for any bending
or bowing. If there is any bowing from side-to-side, add shims as needed to straighten the headrail.
•Remove the headrail.
•Remove the faceplate and any additional spacer blocks.
•Loosen the mounting screws securing the base spacer block.
•Insert one or more shims between the spacer block and the mounting surface.
•After reinstalling the headrail, check that you have corrected the bowing and the headrail is level.
REVEAL & CEILING FIT INSTALLATION
BRACKET ATTACHMENT:
• Attach the ceiling mount brackets directly to a level surface that has a minimum 25mm depth.
•To fully recess the sheer inside the opening, the flat surface must be 160mm deep with the 89mm
vane size and 205mm deep with the 120mm vane size.
•For proper operation, the sheer must clear all obstructions, including window cranks, handles, and
mouldings. Replace protruding window cranks with T-cranks.
•Use a level to check that the mounting surface is level and smooth. If
necessary, use shims to ensure level mounting of the SOFTRAK® Headrail
System.

CARE AND CLEANING
LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers are as durable as they are beautiful. With
proper installation and care, they will provide many years of beauty and
performance.
The sheer, valance, and vane fabric are 100% polyester. They are
resilient, anti-static, and dust resistant. Periodic cleaning is
recommended to help keep LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers looking like
new. For all cleaning applications, sheers should remain hanging to
minimise handling, wrinkling or puckering.
NOTE:
Disposable gloves should be worn when handling sheers.
CAUTION:
Keep all cleaning solutions away from the SOFTRAK® Headrail
System. Never submerge the headrail.
ROUTINE CLEANING:
• Use a feather duster for regular light dusting.
• For more thorough dust removal, a hand held vacuum with low suction may be used. When
vacuuming avoid pulling or stretching the fabric.
• Start in the upper left corner and work across the sheer using short horizontal strokes while
steadying the fabric free with your hand. Each stroke should be approximately the width of
two to three vanes. Do not use long horizontal or vertical strokes, as these actions will
crease the fabric. Continue to the bottom of the sheer.
• Do not use a brush attachment or rigorous vacuuming since either could distort the sheer
fabric.
ELECTROSTATIC CLEANING:
CAUTION:
Do not use electrostatic cleaning services such as
Swiffer™ or Pledge Grab-it™ on any LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers.
SPOT CLEANING:
To reduce the potential for permanent staining, spots should be treated and cleaned as soon as
possible with a clothing stain pre-treatment solution.
•Apply a pre-treatment solution to a clean white cloth.

SPOT CLEANING (CONTINUED):
•Support the fabric from behind using another clean dry cloth. Clean the spot using a gentle
blotting action. Avoid rubbing the fabric since any abrasive action may cause it to distort.
•Let the area air dry.
•After the area is dry, remove excess solution by blotting it with distilled or bottled water applied
to another clean cloth.
DEEP CLEANING:
For deep cleaning LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers, the ultrasonic cleaning method is recommended.
CAUTION:
Always use an experienced professional for cleaning LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers, to
avoid damaging the product.
DO NOT DRY CLEAN LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers.
ULTRASONIC METHOD:
Professional ultrasonic cleaning is a process in which the sheer fabric is inserted into a tank of
cleaning solution and then subjected to high frequency vibrations. Dirt is loosened from the fabric
and carried away in the cleaning solution. This process is done outside the home.
•Ensure the supplier’s ultrasonic tank is long enough to accommodate the full length of the
sheer without folding the fabric or vanes.
•Ensure the sheers are rolled onto a tube when being transported to and from the home. This
reduces the chance of wrinkling and damage.
•Specify water that does not exceed 32°C.
CAUTION:
If water temperatures exceed 32°C, oxidation will damage the room darkening vanes
of LUMINETTE® Room Darkening Sheers.
•Make sure stains are pre-treated to maximise the benefits of cleaning.
•Hang sheers immediately after cleaning with the vanes open and the loops evenly spaced.
Allow the sheer to drip dry completely.

WRINKLE AND CREASE REMOVAL:
Both the hand and steam machine methods described below are suitable for wrinkle and crease
removal. The hand method is more appropriate for smaller areas.
HAND METHOD:
• Rotate vanes to the fully opened position.
• Apply warm distilled or bottled water to a clean white cloth.
• Support the fabric from behind using another clean, dry cloth.
• Blot the wrinkled or creased area with the wet cloth.
• Let the area air dry.
STEAM MACHINE METHOD:
• Rotate vanes to the fully opened position.
• From behind direct the steam (maximum temperature 38°C) from a portable steam machine to
penetrate the sheer fabric.
• Use slow, short vertical movements. Begin at the top of the sheer and work your way down.
Several passes over the creased area may be needed.
• Let the area air dry.
A NOTE ABOUT TEXTILES:
Like any work of textile art, whether an antique or hand-spun sheer, the fabric is subject to slight
variations.
•The fabric will change as its position changes.
•Minor wrinkles, puckers or other variations can appear and are inherent to this textile product.
Slight puckers in the sheer fabric may be most noticeable when the sheer is traversed across the
opening after having been in the stacked position for a period of time. If desired, the sheer may
be steamed to minimise these minor variations. Steam from the rear side of the fabric whenever
possible.
•Such variations like those just mentioned, are normal acceptable quality.
WARRANTY
LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers are covered by the LUXAFLEX® 5 Year Warranty.*
Conditions apply.
*
During winter in particular, condensation may develop on the glass of the window due to the
insulation abilities of the product. If condensation does occur it is essential that the blind be
retracted for a period to allow for maximum air flow and the evaporation of the moisture to
minimise damage to the blind fabric.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
The sheer does not traverse, or does not traverse easily
•
Tilt the vanes to the opened position before traversing.
•
Check that the installation brackets are level, their front edges are
aligned, and there are no obstructions to the movement of the
fabric (i.e, the cord is not caught in the brackets).
The sheer end treatment does not hang straight
•
Separate the velcro strips. Reposition the end treatment on the
swivel plate. Repeat as necessary until the end treatment hangs
straight. See Adjust The End Treatment To The Swivel Plate section.
The vanes do not rotate or they rotate incorrectly
•
Check the sheer is fully traversed.
•
Check that there are no obstructions to the movement of the
vanes. Replace protruding window cranks with T-cranks.
A vane does not hang correctly
•
Check that the vane is completely inserted into the pinion.
See Attach The vanes To The Pinion Clips - section.
A vane is out of alignment
•
Using the wand, first rotate the vanes all the way to one side and
then all the way to the other. The vane (s) will automatically
realign.
•
Manually turn the pinion clip to align with the remaining pinion
clips.
•
On inside mounts, check that there is a clearance between the
end of the headrail and the window casement.
The end treatment arm does not swing around the end cap
See Positioning The SOFTRAK® Headrail System - section.
The two fabric panels on a split stack sheer don’t quite
meet in the centre
•
While up to a 6mm gap is within product
tolerances, you can usually ensure that the
two lead vanes meet in the centre by cupping
them with clean hands and rounding them
along the length of the fabric.
•
Raise or lower the cord tether to adjust cord
tension.
Cord tension is incorrect.
Wand does not hang straight or cord is too loose.
•

Using a .05 hex key, loosen the set screw in
the wand lock; raise the tether to decrease
tension; lower the tether to increase tension.
Tighten the set screw and check the adjustment.

‘Return to Wall’ Product Improvement
LUXAFLEX® LUMINETTE® Privacy Sheers offer a softly filtered view whilst providing
privacy, which is easily controlled with the tilting of the sheer fabric vanes. LUMINETTE
Privacy Sheers create instant drama in any room and are the ultimate choice for vertical
window covering solutions.
‘Return to wall’ example
This July we announced that fabric ‘return to wall’ feature
would be a standard on all face mounted 89mm Classic
LUMINETTE Privacy Sheers fabrics. This product
improvement creates a seamless and finished appearance,
further refining the look of LUMINETTE Privacy Sheers
(return to wall example pictured on left).
The ‘return to wall’ feature
means that fabric end
treatments on both the control
end and the non control end
fully return to the wall. Face
mount ‘return to wall’ pictured
to the right.
‘Return to wall’
There has been some confusion regarding the componentary, particularly end treatment
swivel plate assembly, which should be received with LUMINETTE Privacy Sheers which
include the ‘return to wall’ feature.
Return to Wall Feature
UMINETTE Privacy Sheers with ‘return to the wall’ will have a full vane on the control
side and NO end treatment swivel plate assembly on the control end, the 1st vane
on the control end is attached to the ‘return to wall’ clip. Only the non control end
features an end treatment swivel plate assembly. See below.
Control End only
features full vane and
a ‘return to wall’ clip.
No end treatment
swivel plate assembly.
Non-Control End
Non Control End features
full vane and end treatment
swivel plate assembly.

LUMINETTE Privacy Sheers Split Stack with ‘Returns to Wall’
Please note for a split stack (one shade is a left stack and the
other is a right stack, with the fabric opening in the centre) the
two side stack systems are installed with the non-control ends
side-by-side. Be sure to adjust the SoftTrak headrails
according to the illustration for proper swivel arm operation. Be
sure to measure the spacing from end cap to end cap, not
from the swivel arms.


LUMINETTE Privacy Sheers window coverings with ‘returns to the wall’ end treatments
are not recommended on the split stacks with abutting ends. Should your sheers arrive
with ‘return to the wall’ end treatments on the abutting ends, simply switch the two end
treatment swivel plates so that the end treatments look like the below illustration.
