hey” say that champions exhibit many true
qualities, for example the ability to repeat a
performance, to triumph over adversity, and
simply to keep going on and working when others falter.
Ladies and Gentleman, we are here to announce Ms.
Debbie Ross of San Diego, California has repeated her
World Shootoff Championship performance of last year
and again won the Woman’s Stock Gun Championship
shooting her “ol’ reliable” G17L. But that’s just part of the
story this year. You see, this match divides competitors
into classes of equipment (e.g. “escaped” guns are in Open
or Unlimited Class) and known competitor ability (e.g. US
Practical Shooting Grand Masters, Masters, “A,” “B,” etc.).
Competitors using GLOCKS swept four of the six classes
and won the
overall chamShoot-off finale!
pionship! Mr.
Bryan Wilhite of Dallas, Texas is the new
American Handgunner World Shootoff Stock
Gun Champion, using a G24. Master class
shooter Dave Bridgeman, also of San Diego,
won his class using a 17L. Yutaka Yokomachi
won “A” class shooting a G17. And your humble
correspondent was fortunate enough to secure

the new G34, with a longer sight radius and
competition trigger set-up. GLOCKS were well represented throughout all the Stock Gun
classes, a veritable tour de force!
The match itself was a tough one. Three days of
shooting right beside another competitor, identical
steel target setups (e.g. plate racks), first one to
knock the stop popper down wins!
In addition to the competitor stress, it’s a test of
equipment, too. This year was exceptionally hot and
dusty, but the winning GLOCKS, each shooting over a
thousand rounds in three days, kept going and going.
GLOCK salutes all of the Champions and thanks the
other competitors for their camaraderie, the range
staff for their hard work, Paul and Kerry Miller of the
Paul Miller (Match Director) with Debbie Ross
San Juan Shooting Range for hosting the match and
American Handgunner magazine and other sponsors for their support of the shooting sports.
We can’t wait until next year. Now let’s see, a GLOCK and an optic sight…h-m-m-m…

It can even happen to the
GSSF Secretary…
ne night while returning home alone, I noticed a white van with two males inside. It
was parked at the entrance to the condominiums I lived in. I proceeded past them and parked
my car. As I backed up into my parking space, the
van sat with its headlights fixed on my white
Camaro. I didn’t get out of my car; I knew something
was up. I immediately
pulled out my precious
baby G26 and sat with
my finger off the trigger.
Can you believe that the
van pulled up to the right
side of my car? They
were waiting for something. I kept great concentration. Doors were
locked. I’m still feeling
safe and secure. The passenger of the van looked
over at me and could see
my GLOCK resting on
the steering wheel, waiting and ready. The driver
leaned over to look at
my GLOCK and decided
to hit the road. They
backed up and went
around the end of the
complex. I figured they
didn’t know where they
were, or they were going
to come back when I got
out of my car. I knew I
didn’t have a chance if I
didn’t have a license
plate number, so I pulled around the front of the
complex and turned out the lights to my car. I waited
for them to find their way out, got behind them,
wrote down the license plate number and went
home and called the police. One officer stayed with
me and the other went to their residence. The two
men told the officer they thought I looked familiar.
He told them not to ever bother me again, especially
since I was well protected. So chalk this one up to
Mr. Glock. I’m thankful I had my GLOCK that night

and I know I have the knowledge and training necessary to protect myself and my two handsome boys.
I have a pink Pearce grip on my G26, for girls only.
See, if something happened to the GSSF Secretary,
then who would you call?
Girls, GSSF is not just for men, it’s great practice
and we all need it. Our husbands, boyfriends, or daddies can’t always be
there to protect us. I feel
it’s a smart choice for
more females to join us
at our competitions, not
only for a good, fun, safe
time, but the matches are
kind of like practicing,
except that you get to
win money or a gun. I always say, “Relax, we’ve
had children the age of 9
(with proper supervision) shoot with us.”
There’s no rolling around
in the dirt, but we’ll consider that if you want
to. Come on out, if you
have fun, that’s our
whole intention. We just
want to make sure you’re
comfortable — we never
force anyone to shoot. If
you ever have any problems, please let the
Rangemaster know the
day of the match.
And on another note, I
would like to take this
opportunity to thank everyone for all of the friendly
calls, letters, cards, flowers, candy, T-shirts, hats, angels, sand, wine, goldfish and other sweet gifts I’ve
received. I really enjoy taking care of people. Thing
is, I treat people the way I’d like to be treated. My
honey-do list is long, but yes, you could say I love my
job. Can’t you tell?

ust a brief note to let you know how much I enjoy
my new G30…
G30 AT 15 METERS, FREEHAND
I’ve read all the articles on GLOCKS, but I think this
describes your company to “PERFECTION”:
“Well done is better than well said.”
S. J.
Illinois
—Benjamin Franklin
never would have believed it, but it just keeps getting better. On June 27-28, we at the Fernan Rod and
Gun Club hosted our fourth GSSF match. On Friday afternoon, Scott Gilbertson and crew arrived at our range
to set up the course of fire. At 2:10 pm Scott observed
that this match might be rain-free. At 2:14 pm it rained
so hard and so fast that an ark would have been appropriate equipment. But wait! We are Idahoans; a mere
two inches of rain in twenty minutes is nothing.
Besides, after the first five minutes the only way we
could get wetter would have been to gain weight. No
problem—we set up the match and headed for home.
Saturday morning dawned bright and clear, and the
match was on. I brought 4 new shooters. The first two
made up a husband-wife team who had registered by
mail, and were scared to death (remember YOUR first
match!). They had called a week earlier to say they were
uncomfortable about shooting, so I told them to come to
the match, watch awhile, and if they were still uneasy
about shooting, to just watch. They did come; they shot
and assured me that they would be back next year. The
other two new shooters came for one reason only—I
have been badgering them for three years. They are from
two different law enforcement agencies and agreed that
their only options for getting me off their backs were to
A: shoot the match, or B: shoot me! I, of course, opted
for A. They had a great time and will be back next year.
I
GLOCK in the Movies
have just had the good fortune of seeing the movie
“U.S. Marshals” and had to share with you what I
thought was a wonderful action movie. The starring
role in this movie has to be that of the .40 G22 that
many of the actors carry and use. I must also give
credit to Mr. Tommy Lee Jones’ line “buy a GLOCK, get
rid of that nickel-plated sissy pistol.” Mr. Glock must
be very PROUD. We all know that’s right and have told
many the same thing ourselves.
What a wonderful plug for a wonder handgun. I
don’t know how you got this promotion in the movie,
but keep up the GREAT work.
If you haven’t already seen “U.S. Marshals,” it is a
must-see, if only for that one line. Thank you, GLOCK,
Inc., GSSF and Mr. Glock for all your hard work—keep
it coming.
I
R. T.
Minnesota
P.S. My son and I had a GREAT time together at the
Northern Lakes Regional Classic VI. THANK YOU
VERY MUCH from both of us. He really likes his T-shirt!
I think the greatest and most humbling thing that
happened at this match was the fact that a fine gentleman honored our club by attending and firing the
match. You see, while we whine about bad ammo,
sights off and too many other excuses to list, this man,
paralyzed from the neck down, fired the match from a
wheelchair using a specially constructed helmet that
holds the GLOCK and has a trigger release activated by
biting! I don’t know the gentleman’s name, but Sir, if
you read this, please honor us with your presence next
year. Your fees will be paid by the Club, and thank you
for showing us what courage is all about. To the folks
from GSSF—as always, thank you for your professionalism and friendship. See you next year.

Stress Relief
am a GLOCK shooting enthusiast to the exclusion of
all other auto pistols. The GSSF matches give me a
much-needed break from law school. As a result, my
GLOCK collection has grown to four models. I recently
purchased a G17L for the competition class and shoot
the G26 or “baby,” as I call it, for my regular civilian
entry. Neither gun has ever let me down and both, with
their mellow recoils, are a blast to shoot. My girlfriend
also uses GSSF matches to de-stress—from medical
school—and has attended two recent matches shooting
a G22. The recoil of the .40 is a bit too much for her, as
she is still new to firearms in general and has yet to
develop good pistol shooting habits. Her plan is to get
a 9mm, either the G19 or the G17. She loves the gentle
recoil of the G26, but likes a longer sight radius. The
picture shows her in the rain at the Fulton, NY GSSF
match, starting on a row of plates (one down, five to
I
go). The plates are her biggest challenge at matches.
This season we will make it to three GSSF matches.
With driving times as long as six hours one way,
we end up spending much more time driving than
shooting, so pleeeeeease consider starting a new match
location somewhere in the Northeast. There is none
currently in Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont, and
there needs to be!!! GSSF matches are consistently well
run, and I learn a lot about how to shoot better at each
one. Keep up the good work!!!
normally associated with pistol competitions, where
recreational shooters are often competing against
professionals. GLOCK gives everyone a fair chance,
regardless of his or her shooting ability. I can personally
attest to this, because for the third straight year, I’ve
placed at the top of “C” class (civilian) and I’ve won my
third pistol. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw!
Win or lose, the GSSF is fantastic, and I will continue
to attend the matches, support the organization and
encourage others to join in the fun. Thanks again!

Team Triumphs
uring 1995 our TMI (Three Mile Island) Security
Department formed a six-person pistol team. We
competed against seventeen nuclear security plants
throughout the NRC's Region 1, the Northeastern U.S.
Our standing was tenth while using another type of
pistol which was difficult to shoot. During ’96 and ’97
competitions, our standings increased each year to
reach fifth place. But we knew that while shooting
these particular pistols, the chances of ever placing
higher were slim; not to mention the frequent breakage
and wearing problems creating unsafe conditions.
Fortunately, with the help of our vendor, the entire
security force switched to the G22. Our pistol team put
the G22 to the test with unbelievable results. The G22
was safe, easy to handle and very accurate out of the
box. The entire security force shot better during practice
and qualification. Our pistol team knew this would be a
better year for the RONSA (Region One Nuclear Security
Association) pistol competition. As it turned out, we
collected the third place team and individual trophies.
Not bad for only six months’ practice with our G22s!

Thanks to All
would like to express my sincere gratitude to GLOCK, Inc.,
the entire GSSF staff, and all of the
volunteers who work so hard to
put these fantastic matches together. I would especially like to
thank Vel Carmona for her kindness, sincerity and dedication to
the GSSF members.
One of the greatest attractions of these matches
is the way in which GSSF has removed the “stress”

like to thank you for coming to our rescue with a duty

Happy Winners
y husband and I attended our first GLOCK
match in Roseburg, Oregon on the first weekend in June. We had traveled there with a group from
our Snoqualmie, Washington rifle club. We planned to
compete in the match with an all-woman team and individually. Sometimes good news follows bad. First the
bad. As we were preparing to head to the range, our
car decided to die on the spot. Luckily, some of our
companions were staying at the same motel and gave
us a lift to the range. To say the least, we were both
slightly distracted and felt that we had not shot our
best. Now the good news. A month later I received a
call from Vel. She was so excited to tell us that our
womens’ team won second place and received a

strangers, how much they will enjoy a GSSF match.
The staff has been the greatest since day one. They
are always so helpful and friendly—we look forward
to seeing them at the matches. The time they spend
with and patience they show our boys and other
youths show that they care about the future of GSSF.
They pay just as much attention to first-time shooters
as to the “regulars.” You always leave a match feeling
good and planning for the next one.
My family would like to thank everyone from Mr.
Glock and the staff to the range officers, without
whom the matches would not be possible, and we
would be missing a lot of fun. We will see you at the
next match.

$75 and my husband won C class and a pistol. I was delighted with my winnings, and my husband has been
insufferable since, but I think I can live with it. Thank
you, GLOCK, for sponsoring such fun and encouraging
events in which anyone can participate.

A GSSF Family
am finally getting this letter finished—I have been
wanting to send it to you from the moment my
husband and I shot our first GSSF match, over two
years ago. Both of our boys (now ages 12 and 14) also
shoot, and it is great family fun. Our family has always
enjoyed shooting, and our GLOCKs have become our
favorite guns. We tell a lot of friends, and even

recently participated in my third GSSF match. My
dad convinced me to shoot in my first match in
Carrollton last year. I was very nervous. When we
showed up there were a lot of men and very few
women or young girls. I just knew I was going to
embarrass myself and my dad, but he assured me that
everything would be all right. When I stepped up to the
first station the range officer was very friendly and
helpful. He went out of his way to make a nervous
young girl feel right at home. Since then, everyone I
have met who is associated with GSSF has been
friendly, helpful and encouraging. I have had a great
time and look forward to going to the next match with
my dad, so I hope to see you in San Antonio.
