"This old house is where Ralph
Stanley was born. This house was on
TNN (The Nashville Network) not
long ago. He brought the film crews
up here and they filmed it, but then
the floods washed out the road and
the bridge to it," Conny Knoskie told
those who went to inspect the handiwork of amateur stone mason Chris
Sexton.
Sexton, one of five inmates from
the Dickenson County Jail who
helped with the Big Spraddle project, did a fantastic job on the bridge,
Knoskie said.
'~I wish you could have seen the
size of some of the rock that boy
hauled up out of the creek bed. I bet
the biggest one - it was real thick
and several feet long - I bet that
thing weighed 400 pounds. I don't
know how he drug it up there."
The finished bridge is 12 feet
wide and spans the creek bed, with a
message written in the concrete
proudly proclaiming the builder's
accomplishment. The bridge was
started Sept. 11 and finished Oct 1.
"Bobby
(Sheriff
Bobby
Hammons) asked me if I wanted to
help the people up here, and I'm glad
I did," Sexton said. "I really enjoyed
working with ~hese people."
