Underwear.... what to wear, what not to wear
Underwear.... what to wear, what not to wear Preparing for an important event and or photo shoot in regard to your undergarments selections, because it can matter more than you realize. I have been providing my brides with information in regard of proper undergarment selection in preparation for engagement sessions because of course as you can imagine when you are having your photos taken, if you don't think about how you look, you might not get the results you were hoping for. Recently I had my own photos taken and I tried my best, so I thought, to prepare for the photo shoot. I only shopped locally and I didn't have a lot of time to prepare.... so I gathered up what I could find and did what I could. As I got dressed, I thought everything was going just fine. On the way to our photo shoot, I realized before we even got there that what I decided to wear under my dress was not going well. I actually wanted to remove some of the undergarments, but I was not able to because of location and lack of facilities. I was however blessed that my selected photographer who I know through some of my local photography affiliations helped me in concealing my demise in most of the shots. I do however have one to share with you that reveals a glimpse of the dilemma I was in. Some of the concerns can be addressed by choosing more wisely what to wear under your clothes. I knew going into this that a lot of the high waisted body slimmer panties don't stay put, I did find some that have the rubbery material on the inside of the waist... but to my surprise, they did not stay in place though they didn't roll like some do it was still not attractive what happened once they moved. I guess my other issue that might not have as much impact was my choice to wear footless stockings, I normall choose a size or two too large since hose are normally so tiny, but this time I got some that were in my indicated size, it was amazing I was even able to get into them honestly. I only mention this because I think they added to my show through problem and I only wore them in an attempt to stay warm on the chilly day we ventured outdoors for this photo shoot. What I would change and what I have done is opted for a one piece undergarment aka body smoother/shaper. I would have done this before the shoot if I could have found one in my size locally, but I didn't find any which led me to choose other options. So I highly recommend looking for your size in a all in one from bra to panty/full slip option. The one I found was a maidenform product called “flexees”, it is super comfortable and I loved the fact that it comes with straps that are removable or you can adjust the straps to fit your dress. I only share this in case it is helpful to anyone else. Even my most young and fit brides have had their undergarments show through in some of their photos because they cut across a fleshy part of the body, panties for example are one of the biggest culprits, but I would have to say bras rank right up there with showing through in a way that is not the most flattering. A lot of that has to do with ladies not wearing the right bra size or not looking for bras that minimize the cutting and show through factor. I am sure it also goes without saying that your selection of your wardrobe can also minimize what shows through as well, but if you are wearing anything sleek or slender in attire, the chance of your undergarments showing through increases dramatically. I am including an image of what really happened on the day of the photo shoot, you can imagine I was hoping for the best and hoping it didn't show through, but it did. The second image is with the same dress but with a better undergarment that I mentioned here. I think you can see the difference. Oh and I can't forget to mention fashion tape is your friend too! Here is a quick image of the shaper I chose, it is available through many stores. http://www.maidenform.com/shapewear/brands/flexees/flexees-easy-up-strapless-full-slip-2304 Written by Sheri Johnson of www.SheriJohnsonPhotography.com
