SESSION 5 (JULY 14 to JULY 18): JURASSIC JUBILEE
Come join us for some prehistoric play as we learn about a time when dinosaurs ruled the
earth. We'll stomp through lessons about T-Rex, Long Necks, and Triceratops too. . . any
one that appeals to you.

Blast off to a high-flying adventure in outer space! What planets are out there… and what's
on them? Step into our science lab to learn more about our solar system and universe. Get
ready for some out of this world fun!

Step right up folks, hurry, hurry! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, come join
us as we dress like clowns, play carnival games, and learn to tame some "wild beasts" (no,
not the 2-year old class). Get ready for some good ol' circus fun.

Deb Pannell is a classroom and art educator with experience teaching children ages 3-15.
She has taught in the Reed Union School District, the Novato Unified School District, and
has served as the Art Program Director at Camp Pemigewassett for boys in New
Hampshire.
This summer Deb will launch Dabble in Art with Deb!, an exciting new studio art & crafts
program of the BTCCC. Dabble in Art with Deb! programming is available daily to any
student enrolled in the BTCCC summer camp program. Each week Dabble in Art with
Deb! will feature single session, multi-session, and collaborative projects. Single session
projects can be completed in one day; multi-session projects are for children who enjoy
planning and executing a project over a 3-5 day period; and collaborative projects are
designed to encourage artistic expression as well as social skill development.
Many projects will be literature based. Selected stories will explore social themes such as
friendship, determination, love, and bravery. These classic and contemporary stories, and
their exquisite illustrations, will be the springboard for both discussion and artistic
creativity. Other projects will be “In the Style Of” projects in which children will learn about
the lives and artistic style of artists such as Van Gogh, Calder, Matisse, Dine, Thiebaud
and many others.
Children are sometimes reluctant to try art activities because they feel they are not “good”
at drawing, or representational art. That is, a child may decline to participate in an activity
exploring cave art because they are not comfortable attempting to draw realistic looking
animals. Although drawing instruction will be included in the program, representational art
will be deemphasized. Projects requiring 2- and 3-D construction and assembly will
provide children with opportunities to create and build, and will foster the development of
both perceptual and fine motor skills as well as exposure to a wide variety of mediums
including paper, clay, paint, beadwork, crayons, oil and chalk pastels, foil, and more.
