About The Team
We are a family business operating across the UK. Our aim is to provide
good quality products that will do the job at the right price, with a firstclass service to our customers.
Kim Petty dairy farms in North Pembrokeshire on a spring, block calving,
grass-based system with 380 cows. Many of the products featured are used on
his farm.
David & Jackie Brundrett live in South Shropshire having retired from
livestock farming in 1995. Jackie is Kim’s sister. They ran an intensive beef calfrearing unit, sheep and contract-rearing dairy heifers, maximising the use of
forage. David has a long association with agricultural merchanting as an agent
for several companies over the years. Jackie is also a farm secretary.
John Davies is farming the family farm, rearing beef calves, maximising the
use of grass. John played professional rugby for the Llanelli Scarlets and won
over 30 caps for Wales.
Hywel James, farms in West Wales. Having just ceased milk production he now
helps John with sales 1-2 days a week.
Justin Rees, who lives in the Welsh Borders and joined us in 2011, has a
lifetime’s experience of large herd management both in the UK and New
Zealand, working for New Zealand’s largest Corporate Dairy Farming Business
in South Island.
Joanne Croxton from Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire joined us in April. Jo is
from a farming background, married with 2 children and is taking over the day
to day management of the Shropshire office and Team Support.
Peter Sharrock lives locally to our Shropshire office and has joined us to help
us with the management of the warehouse.
Laurence Tilt is from a local farming family in South Shropshire, married and
works full-time in the Shropshire office.
Hayley Norgrove is our Sales Ledger Manager and Bryony Croft comes in to
keep the accounts in order.
Sue Downes is warehouse and sales support and office duties.
Sarah Hinton joined the Welsh office in September 2012. Living on a
smallholding and running a holiday cottage business, Sarah provides valuable
sales support and administration duties on a part time basis.

The Reason – because one dairy parlour is designed differently from the next
and with so many variables coming into play when automatic teat spraying (e.g.
the height of the cows teats, wind or even the speed of the platform), Onfarm
Solutions decided a moving spray nozzle would take these variables out of play.
The Solution – the Onfarm Solutions Teatwand has a pneumatically driven
moving arm that extends 400mm from its rest position ensuring all four teats are
covered extremely well by the teat spray solution.
The Teatwand is controlled using a weatherproof
control box specifically designed for this
purpose alone.
The Teatwand is set up easily using the push
buttons on the front of the control box to control
spray start time, length of spray time,
cylinder extend time.
Three high quality sensors are used in the system
to affect a perfect spray on the cows teats while stopping the system for spraying when
either the cups are still on or there is no cow in the stall.
The Spread Eagle is a supplementary device for the Teatwand
that ensures the cow is in the correct position for teat
spraying ensuring full coverage of all four teats.

FIL recommends year round teat spraying or dipping to assist in decreasing
the bacterial invasion of teats in dairy herds, keeping somatic cell counts
down and to maintain teat skin condition.
Since launching the FIL teat care range here in 2010 a number of farmers
have followed this advice and are very satisfied with the results.
We have two options for teat hygiene.
Iodoshield Active is one of FIL’s most popular new product releases with
New Zealand farmers due to its excellent antibacterial qualities that enhance the proven
ability of iodine to reduce teat surface bacteria.
The addition of Manuka honey enhances antibacterial properties and is also a highly
effective emollient leading to improvements in teat skin condition. This product has proven
highly effective in the demanding conditions of commercial dairy farms in New Zealand.
Iodoshield Active Features:
• Unique combination of Manuka honey and quality skin care components.
• Sold as concentrate allowing flexibility for variable strength mixing.
• Can be used as a spray or dip.
• No extra emollient required, delivers cost savings.
• Iodine base.
• Fully field trialled by New Zealand farmers.

• Skin care ingredients improve teat condition and smoothness, while honey locks in

Ultracare Teatshield provides farmers with an alternative to the
more commonly used iodine-based teat sprays, particularly those who may
be affected by allergies, or whose skin is sensitive to iodine-based solutions.
FIL’s chlorhexidine-based teat spray or dip, has a proven formulation that
ensures excellent flow, through vacuum-driven teat spraying systems to
deliver an even droplet size and dispersal upon the teat surface.
Ultracare Teatshield Features:

Iodoshield Active and Ultracare Teatshield have Protocol A approval in New Zealand.
To pass this test the teat sanitiser must achieve a 1000-fold reduction in teat bacteria within
10 minutes of application. Protocol A is accepted within the New Zealand dairy industry as
the most accurate and accredited means of assessing a teat spray’s sanitising ability.

FIL Dairy Detergents
Market leaders in New Zealand, these dairy products are now achieving
outstanding cleaning results in the UK.
The FIL controlled foam wash system is suitable for all milking systems,
but especially for the larger bore herringbone or rotary systems now
operational on many farms in the UK.
Used at a rate of only 15ml per 10 litres of hot water Quantum products are
up to 2.5 times more concentrated than most other dairy detergents.
The programme requires 12 washes per week with the acid detergents
Quantum Gold or Quantum Blue and 2 washes per week with the alkaline
detergents Quantum Powder or Liquid.
To properly remove build-up of fat, protein and mineral deposits you must use an acid
detergent sanitizer and an alkaline detergent sanitizer in your weekly routine.
Quantum Gold and Quantum Blue
Quantum Gold is for older plants which require high foam cleaning to get into nooks and
crannies. Quantum Blue is lower foaming for newer plants. Both contain acids, surfactants
and sanitizers.
• Acids dissolve the fat and protein. A hot acid wash will melt fat and the low pH also
kills bacteria.
• Surfactants help to flush away melted fat and protein.
• Sanitizers kill bacteria and are intended to remain in plant after washing.
THERE IS NO NEED TO RINSE OUT THE MILKING PLANT AFTER AN ACID WASH
SAVING TIME AND MONEY.
The product will help limit bacteria growth between milkings.

Quantum Powder and Quantum XL Liquid (Alkali Detergents)
Both contain caustic soda and other alkaline materials, surfactants and water conditioners. Quantum Powder
also contains Chlorine for additional protein removing power. Always use with hot water to melt fat.

The caustic ingredient removes fat and protein.
The chlorine destroys protein deposits.
The surfactants help dissolve and emulsify deposits.
The water conditioners ensure constant performance in mineralised water.
As well as cleaning, chlorinated alkaline detergents also sanitize. The chlorine is deadly to organic
tissue, so kills bacteria. Always rinse after alkali wash with water followed by a dilute acid wash to resanitize plant.
CLEANING ROUTINE
1.
Rinse plant with 20 litres plus of cold/warm water per unit to remove all milk and minerals from plant.
2a. Morning wash
5 mornings a week follow cold rinse with hot acid wash.
Use10 litres of hot water with 15ml of Quantum Gold/Blue per set of teat cups.
Re-circulate and drain to waste.
No need to rinse.
2b. Evening wash
7 nights a week carry out cold rinse as usual.
Follow with cold or hot acid wash using 15ml of acid in 10 litres of water per set of cups.
Re-circulate and drain to waste.
No need to rinse.
3.
Twice weekly
2 mornings per week circulate Quantum XL alkali instead of acid at a rate of 15 grams per 10
litres of hot water per set of cups.
This is important in preserving and extending life of rubber wear.
Re-circulate until temperature drops to 60˚C.
Follow the hot alkaline wash with an acid rinse to neutralise the alkaline, to flush away residues
and to re-sanitise plant.

FIL Dairy Detergents
NB. These high strength detergent sanitizers are used at a rate of ONLY
15ml per 10 litres of water and therefore, very economical.
Quantum Gold
High strength controlled foam acidic detergent/
sanitizer. Wet detergent foam makes it particularly effective in cleaning
plants that require high foam levels to reach inaccessible parts. Balanced
blend of surfactants, acids and a new generation low toxicity biocide provide

HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT ELECTRIC FENCING
FENCING TERMS:
Voltage:
Power on the wire that controls the livestock.
Joules:
The power of each fencer that drives volts along the wire.
Stored Joules:
The horsepower in the fencer.
Output Joules:
The real, useable horsepower of the fencer:
Approx. two-thirds stored joules.
EG. 15 stored joules = 10 output joules.
TESTING YOUR ENERGISER:
No load:
Voltage in the fencer.
500 OHMS: Voltage on wire in perfect conditions.
100 OHMS: Voltage on wire under grass growth condition.
Note: Voltage on fence wire should not drop below 2500 volts for effective
livestock control.
CHOOSING AN ENERGISER:
One Output Joule will drive volts along 6 miles/10 kms of wire in perfect
conditions.
• Decide on the area and type of land to be fenced.
• The type of stock to be controlled.
• Choose a fencer larger than required to allow for fence additions.
ERECTING YOUR ENERGISER:
• Place fencer unit in a cool dry well ventilated shed. (Mains Units).
• Erect fencer unit out of reach of children and animals.
• Connect underground/lead-out wire from fence terminal to fence wire.
• Connect underground/lead-out wire from earth terminal to first earth rod.
EARTHING YOUR ENERGISER:
Choose an earth site that is moist and at least 33 ft. (10 metres) away from:
• Any earth stake for another electrical system.
• Any telephone earth stake.
• Any water pipes including disused water pipes.
• Any building using structural steel or reinforcing metal in the ground.
NB. NEVER CHOOSE AN EARTH SITE NEAR A DAIRY OR PARLOUR.
