Recipients of 2014 ACE Recognition for Exemplary Corporate Social Responsibility with AMCHAM leadership and American charge d’affaires Patrick Murphy AMCHAM Thailand Recognizes Top Corporate Social Responsibility Programs T he American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM) honored its members’ best corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs at a ceremony presided over by American charge d’affaires Patrick Murphy. The eighth annual AMCHAM CSR Excellence (ACE) Awards recognized 52 companies for their exemplary CSR programs and their dedication to improving their communities. To qualify for an ACE recognition, a company’s CSR program must receive high marks in four categories: (1) Attention to business objectives and societal needs; (2) Creation of long-term economic and 2014 RECIPIENTS OF AMCHAM CSR EXCELLENCE (ACE) AWARD: Accenture Developed a project called “Young Entrepreneurship Development Project” to provide educational opportunities and to build knowledge and skills in business management for children. In 2012, 1,328 volunteer man hours were contributed for curriculum design, training camp and evaluation. 76 Hill Tribe children in Chiang Rai Province benefited from the program. In 2013, equipped 80 secondary school students in Dharmajarinee School with business skills. AIA Silver Award ‘AIA Sharing A Life’ is AIA Thailand’s CSR Phenomenon, which involved the bringing together of 30,000 volunteers to participate in community service activities in 21 locations nationwide. This event marked another great milestone for AIA in giving back to Thai society. Amway To continue paying back to Thai society, social gains; (3) Communication and sharing of best practices; (4) Program sustainability. Special designations were given to firms that have received the ACE award for five consecutive years (Gold Award), three consecutive years (Silver Award), firms with excellence in creativity and innovation (Creative Partnerships), and recognition for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). Amway for Thai Society Foundation (ATF) celebrated the 10th anniversary of Amway One by One campaign for children in 2013 by joining with the Border Patrol Police Headquarters to launch ‘Amway Rak Nong’ (Amway Loves Children) program. Winter jackets were delivered to 22,915 children in 177 Border Patrol Police Schools in 39 provinces nationwide with 787 volunteers from Amway Business Owners and staff. to running its business with governance, fairness, an anti-corruption mindset, respect for human rights, fair treatment of labor, and responsibility to consumers, while playing its part not only in improving society and communities, but also in taking care of the surroundings, under ‘Krungsri, The Heart of Giving’ concept. Focusing on 2 major aspects, Education and Community Engagement, more than 50 CSR activities were arranged for Krungsri people in 2014 that emphasize giving to our community in order to create sustainable community. Bank of Ayudhya A key driver of the national economy for 69 years, Krungsri has been committed Baxter Healthcare As part of Baxter’s sustainability promise, Baxter and its employees help communities in Thailand address a broad range of needs. The company gives back to the communities it operates in through environmental stewardship, employee volunteerism, corporate donations including product donations, and other initiatives. These initiatives focus on improving education, driving access to healthcare through awareness and education programs, and protecting the environment. Our employees are also an integral part of Baxter’s sustainability efforts as we believe that each one of our staff contributes to Baxter’s long-term growth and success. Bumrungrad Hospital The Bumrungrad Hospital Foundation began its collaboration with the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, to help children suffering from critical congenital heart disease, despite their families’ financial status, and provide the treatment free of charge, as part of its ‘Rak Jai Thai’ campaign. We have now had more than 700 cases receiving the surgeries. CEA Projects & Logistics CEA is consistently investing in giving back to the community that surrounds it. Our Wat Mai Nern Payom scholarship program 2014 was a great opportunity to do so. We strive to contribute to sustainable and continued development of society through all business activities that we undertake in our regions. Cisco Systems Program Name: Cisco Networking Academy Networking academy delivers classroom instructions, online teaching materials, interactive tools and hands on learning to students from every socioeconomic background, so that they can develop the knowledge and skills required to succeed in a technology-driven market. The partnership between Cisco and Thailand has touched the lives of 36,105 students since inception. Currently there are 47 Networking Academies operating in Thailand and 91 Instructors who have taught 7,540 students in the past 12 months. Central Food Retail Silver Award ‘Go Green & Reuse for Life’ promoted usage of degradable plastic shopping bags and encouraged using reusable shopping bags by awarding customers with 100 points (1 baht) when shopping with reusable bags. Currently working with 49 communities and more than 497 products, we contributed positively to the community and differentiate our brand image through the ‘Community Product.’ We aim to work with more communities across several product categories to conserve unique local wisdom, nurture local talents and strengthen local community in terms of economic, social and environment towards selfsustainability. Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Gold Award and Creative Partnership Chevron has an unwavering commitment to being a good partner with local communities. We listen to their concerns and aspirations and we work with them to create a better future. In partnership with governments and non-profit organizations, Chevron has invested in initiatives that help strengthen and improve the quality of life of communities where we work. These investments are focused on four areas (4Es): Education, Environment and Energy conservation, Economic Development and Employee Engagement. Citibank Gold Award In 2014, Citi Thailand main focus was on Financial Capability building among various stakeholders. It directly trained financial education for women at risk and low income students. Citi Thailand has also launched the ‘Literacy Improvement for Better Finance in Thailand’ research-based program to understand current situation of Financial Literacy in the country and identify how to improve financial literacy of students, farmers and low-skilled laborers. Coca-Cola Gold Award and Creative Partnership Recycle 360° is an integrated solid waste and recyclable materials management program launched in Chatuchak sub-district. The program is part of Coca-Cola’s sustainable packaging recovery effort which aims to develop and introduce environmentally friendly products, improve packaging material efficiency per liter of product sold, as well as recover used product by recycling. Colgate-Palmolive Giving the world reasons to smile through our oral health program ‘Bright Smiles, Bright Futures,’ Thai children receive oral health education to help build healthy habits and self-esteem. Our partnership with Operation Smile extends our efforts to bring back the smiles to Thai children suffering from cleft lip and palate. To sustain and enhance good health and hygiene, Protex Hand Wash Month educational program reinforces the importance of hand-washing in schools across the country. Ford Motor Silver Award Ford is dedicated to initiatives with long-term impact while contributing to a better world through various community activities. This is led by its flagship CSR program, ‘Driving Skills for Life,’ which provides ‘driving safe’ training. The training is provided free of charge, and since Ford launched DSFL in 2008, more than 8,000 licensed drivers have participated in trainings. The project is to sustain the development of the Sufficient Economy philosophy. General Motors and Chevrolet Sales Silver Award To support CSR commitment in Thailand, the company’s CSR initiatives have historically focused on four main areas: Education; Health and Human Services; Environment, Energy and Safety; and Community Development. Good examples of CSR projects from GM and Chevrolet are the ‘Automotive Services Educational Program’ (ASEP) that support education in Thailand and ‘One World Futbol Project’ that support health and human services. Child sponsorship Program: Since 2011 Santa Fe Thailand continues to sponsor the education of 5 children of the Mercy Centre from the slums of Klong Toei, ensuring they get to go to school by having tuition, school uniforms, text books, meals and other necessary educational expenses covered. 2. House Collection of redundant household goods: For over 10 years Santa Fe Thailand provides a collection service for our moving clients’ unwanted furniture, appliances, clothing, toys etc., and delivers them to needy charitable organizations such as Father Joe’s Mercy Centre and The Gift of Happiness Foundation. Support for Underprivileged Students – A day of fun, games and gifts: Almost 100 children received a great day of fun, games and gifts from Santa Fe and Go-Happiness. Essential items of new clothing, goody bags containing school supplies, ice cream and a great program of fun and games for all the kids at Wat Sam Makan Primary School, by the Pa Sak River Mea La, Ayutthaya, Thailand. 4. Global Project: Santa Fe has donated over U.S. $1.5 million to date to the John Hopkins Breast Cancer Research Foundation. For every relocation performed U.S. $5 is donated to the Foundation along with all proceeds collected during Santa Fe’s Annual Charity Runs held at every International Conference Worldwide. SAS Software Silver Award Since 1976, the SAS is committed to ‘The Power to Know’ concept for customers worldwide. In Thailand, SAS Software (Thailand) has supported students’ education by SAS Curriculum Pathways, which is the interactive online lesson under the patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. This project aims to allow teachers and students to gain more lessons and enhance their academic skills and creative thinking. Currently, over 200 schools across Thailand have already adopted this solution. Seagate Technology Gold Award As an industry leader, Seagate is committed to developing and maintaining sustainable, responsible practices in its global operations. Seagate’s community engagement program addresses the varied interests of employees and the growing needs of our local communities. Known as Capacity to Care, our program aligns Seagate’s giving with employees’ localized interests, leveraging the impact of our combined financial, product and volunteer contributions. Shangri-La Creative Partnership Embrace focuses on Shangri-La’s Caring People Project, which aims to promote the highest level of education and health support in underprivileged communities. This year, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok enhances its long-term commitment to sustainability with Lerdsin Hospital, one of the hotel’s neighbors in Bangrak District, by renovating two blood transfusion rooms for children patients. Standard Chartered Bank Silver Award Standard Chartered Bank has operated in Thailand for 120 years. In that time, Standard Chartered has contributed to the Sustainable Economic Growth of the Kingdom by supporting the growth aspirations of people and businesses, as well as through health and education community investment programs like ‘Seeing is Believing’ and ‘Financial Education for Youth.’ This long-term commitment embodies our desire to be true to our brand promise, which is to be Here for good. Tour de Asia Bicycle Touring organizes and operates five long-distance charity rides in Thailand each year to benefit Operation Smile Thailand/International. They have raised millions of Thai Baht to help children get the life-changing surgeries they need through Operation Smile Thailand/International.
