Ponderosa Fire Department Round Up CLASS OF 2012-Tigers After Prom Thanksgiving and deep fried turkeys – Almost every year we respond to some type of fire involving deep frying turkeys. You must be very careful, read the instructions, and cook OUTSIDE and away from any overhangs, structures or other combustibles. Wear gloves, eye protection and a long sleeved jacket. Be very aware that when you lower the turkey into the hot oil the remaining moisture will BOIL and cause the oil to splash, sometimes enough to spill over and cause an oil fire from the direct propane flame. The key to safely cooking a turkey is to measure the oil by using water FIRST. Dip the turkey (before seasoning) into the pot and mark the water level, then replace the water with the oil. Leave at least 6 inches of open space above the submerged bird since some water will be within the bird. Assure that your propane supply is as far away as possible; consider a “shield”. If the worst happens, call 9-1-1, and don’t use water on the burning oil. If you follow this procedure you should be eating that wonderful turkey without exposure to a disaster. The new fire station dedication on September 10 was an absolute success and the station is now in full operation. Thank you again for your continued support. Visit our website at www.ponderosavfd.org to learn more about your fire department. What is TAP? It is a parent sponsored event that takes place after the prom (which is scheduled for May 19, 2012) for ALL seniors and their dates. We all have the common goal of keeping our kids safe. TAP is an after prom lock-in event that will be held at Klein Collins High School. All students are invited regardless if they attend the prom or not. It is a place where memories are made and they get to spend time with their friends one last time as a group. But, more importantly, they are safe. Please encourage your senior to attend TAP and NOT become another Harris County statistic for drinking and driving. In order to make this event successful, we need EVERYONE to participate – parents and students. Fundraising will be essential to keeping TAP tickets affordable. What can you do to help? Get involved! Come to the meetings and sign-up to help. • Meetings are usually held the last Monday of the month in the Teaching Theater • Our email is [email protected] and we would love to have yours • “Like” us on Facebook - KCHS TAP 2012 • TAP 2012 web page http:kleincollins.kleinisd.net/ default.aspx?name=clubs.TAP • KCHS (the schools) web page, information is found scrolling on the left side of the page Cypresswood Security News Remember to call the non-emergency number to report suspicious activity in our neighborhood. You must call it in so that a report can be filed. The non-emergency number is 713221-6000 and always call 911 if it is an emergency. Keep the deputies informed. Call and make reports so they know what is occuring in Cypresswood. If you are available, come to a monthly CCA meeting and report any issues. The deputies will check them out. A deputy is usually at the CCA meetings and will answer questions you may have regarding security. They want to be informed about incidents in Cypresswood. You are the eyes and ears. Let us keep them informed. We currently have several fundraisers that are in progress. They are: • Script cards- Go to www.glscrip.com/retailerlist/ index.aspx for more information about the merchants. Mention Klein Collins TAP when you place your order and a percentage of all of the receipts for that afternoon go to TAP. Lastly, we are in need of anyone who has a connection to in the restaurant, grocery, food supply/distribution industries. If you are able to help in this area, please contact Linda Ramos at [email protected]. Again, this is a HUGE event for our seniors. Ask around the community and you’re likely to run into a Klein Collins graduate who has attended this event. It’s where memories are made that will last a lifetime!
