Who is Aegean Cruises
“Aegean Cruises” welcomes you to the magic world of sailing in the
Greek islands. Our “meraki”, meaning a passionate love for the sea
and the boat, led us to make the sailing business our profession and,
in 1983 we founded Aegean Cruises, a prominent yachting and
tourism company based in Athens. The sea is a way of life for us.
Born in the Aegean and sailing since childhood, we know the sea,
the boats, the islands and the world of sailing better than anyone.
With over 20 years of experience at the forefront of the industry,
“Aegean Cruises” is an ever expanding company with specialized
personnel in all areas of yachting.
Our Chartering Department, the core of the organization,
is ready to make your dream of sailing in the most
beautiful waters of the Mediterranean come true.
The Brokerage Department is dedicated to our
clients who are interested in buying a new or
second hand, sailing or motor yacht.
Our Management Department has
in depth expertise concerning Greek
maritime laws and regulations, and
undertakes full responsibility of your vessel
Greek or foreign.
The experts in our Technical Department
offer solutions to the toughest problem and our
service and part delivery extends to the remotest
island harbour, if you should ever need our assistance.
We are also proud to announce that in addition to our
yachting activities, our daughter company “HELLAS
SAFETY” is responsible for the fire and safety equipment
and inspection of our fleet and for a large number of vessels
throughout Greece.
We are happy to share our
experience with you and to
introduce you to this world of
dreams that gains many new
friends every year.
When you sail with “Aegean
Cruises” our “meraki” becomes a
part of you.

Aegean Cruises Services
Transfers
We can arrange your transfer from
the airport upon your arrival directly to your
boat or to a hotel if you arrive late at night.
Welcome briefing
The charterer and his or her party will be given a general briefing covering
the local cruising grounds. Questions about navigation, anchorages, prevailing
conditions, or any part of the desired itinerary can be answered. A more specific
boat briefing aboard the yacht will then be given, covering all the operating systems,
including rigging, electrical system, water system, windlass, stove, dinghy outboard and
emergency systems.
Start-up Provisioning
By sending us a provisioning list before your arrival, your provisions will await you on board.
Alternatively, you may also go shopping on your own. Our van will take you to a nearby supermarket
and bring you back to your boat with your shopping at no extra charge.
Fresh provisions are conveniently obtainable on almost all islands, at markets near to mooring sites.
“Dining out” on the islands at one of the many traditional tavernas is inexpensive as well as entertaining.
Our advice : Don’t choose the next best taverna just because it is close to your boat. Take a walk around the
area first. You will be surprised at how many hidden tavernas you will find “off the beaten track”.
Luxury Crewed Charters
For those who yearn for the ultimate in luxury crewed yachts, Aegean Cruises has selected an excellent range of
sailing yachts, motor yachts and motor sailers.
On board one of these exceptional yachts, absolute privacy, excellent service and independence is guaranteed.
The type of accommodation and service provided are as wide as the choices of yachts ranging from ultrafast motor yachts to large classic sailing yachts or the traditional Greek motor sailers. For more information
on luxury crewed charters -even on «mega exclusive yachts» please contact your local agent or speak to us
directly.
Yacht Brokerage
Aegean Cruises operates a successful brokerage department maintaining a database of almost 300 used
yachts based in Greece. We can offer you a used yacht that suits your needs or assist you in selling
your yacht to one of our clients. If you would like to keep your boat in Greek waters permanently,
we take full responsibility for all the necessary maintenance and administrative duties and will
get your boat ready whenever you should need it.
Where to sail
Greece is one of the most popular areas for sailing holidays, because of ideal weather conditions and
the great number of islands. Over 2.000 picturesque isles and 26.000 km of intricate coastline dotted with
tiny fishing villages, peaceful bays, whitewashed houses and archaeological sites make for one of the most
attractive areas in the world. Mild temperatures from April to October, blue skies and clear, clean, warm waters,
make swimming, snorkeling and, of course, sailing, a pleasure.
The islands are famous for their light and colour, each one with its own character, history and culture.
Every island is a small unique world. The people are cheerful, open and famous for their warm hospitality. - A
stranger here is a friend -. Tavernas offering exciting tastes of Greek cuisine, the wine and dancing, are sure to
make your evenings magical.
There is a remarkable variety of cruising areas which to chose from. We will be delighted to discuss
your itinerary and offer you our advice.
The following information will give a taste of some cruising
opportunities available.
10
The Saronic- Argolic Gulf
and the Peloponnesian Coast
Best for easy sailing or for shorter periods of chartering.
This necklace of islands lies in the most tranquil part of these waters.
Just two hours of calm sailing and you are in Aegina, the island of
pistachios and of Aphaea temple. From there set sail for Epidaurus
and discover the famous ancient theatre with the perfect acoustics.
Next, sail on to Poros with its charming landscape of yew and
black cypress. On the tiny island of Hydra, you will find a world
without cars. Yet, in the evening the bars and restaurants of this
quiet island come alive. Then sail to Spetses, an island dotted
with traditional Greek homes and surrounded by pine forests.
Furthermore, Porto Heli, Nafplio, Astros, Monemvasia with
beautiful sandy beaches, unspoiled anchorages and peaceful
fishing villages offer the sailor unique cruising grounds
for leisure sailing.
Wind and Sailing Conditions
The Saronic, Argolic and eastern coast of
the Peloponnesian Gulf is a very well
protected cruising area with mild winds,
averaging force 3-4, usually from the
north to the northeast and ideal for
relaxed sailing. In the Argolic Gulf,

An archipelago of more than 30 islands,
large and small stretching out to the south
of Attica and Euboia, the Cyclades are the ‘pearls’ of
the Aegean. White-washed houses, numerous blue-domed
churches, small tavernas with local wine and food, picturesque
fishing harbours, are considered the most typical part of Greece.
Sail to the charming island of Kea with its small village perched atop
the harbour. Continue south to Kythnos, then east and visit the island
of Syros. Don’t forget to stop in famous Mykonos with its white-washed
buildings and trendy clubs. Sail south to Naxos, Ios and Paros, where
you will pass in the shadows of white chalk cliffs. Paros is an island of
plantations, palm trees and historic monasteries. Also be sure to check out the
great beach cafés. Naxos boasts of windmills, churches and the remnants of the
Temple of Apollo.
Don’t miss the opportunity to arrange a day trip to Santorini, often called
the most beautiful island in the Aegean. Take a gondola up to the top for an
unforgettable view. In Sifnos, anchor in the port with two charming cliffside
villages. Sail to Serifos past a rocky coast cut with deep coves and great
beaches. Here, you can walk among ancient stone formations that resemble
human figures. Sail to Milos, Ios, Folegandros, Kythnos, each individual island
surprises you with its own character and beauty, make your choice of itineraries
unlimited.
Wind and Sailing Conditions
The prevailing wind in the summer is the so called “Meltemi”, which comes
from the North. The Meltemi peaks in the middle of July until end of August
at force 5-7 and may occasionally reach force 9. During spring and autumn, you
may also be facing winds blowing from the south. It is advised that for short
charters (e.g. 7 days) the charterer should be aware in advance of the prevailing
weather conditions since local winds in summer can reach force 8-9 and last for
some days.
Travel Notes
You may begin your trip from our bases in Athens, Alimos Marina, or
Lavrion (Main Port) which is situated an hour by car from the new Athens
International Airport at the southeast coast of Attica.
12
The Dodecanese Islands
Countless sailing options for those who seek sailing in
stronger winds.
The Dodecanese, are a group of 163 islands forming a line a few
miles away from the Turkish coast, on the south-east Aegean Sea.
Every island here brings a host of new discoveries, beginning with Kos.
Here, you can visit the Asklepieion, a temple of healing built in the 4th
century B.C. Also, take a relaxing dip in the hot springs and mineral bath
at the Spas of Thermes. From Kos, countless sailing options are yours. Just
over an hour away from our base is the tiny island of Pserimos with its
beautiful beach. From here, sail to the charming island of Kalymnos. On
the south side visit Vathy Valley and gaze out upon its majestic deep
inlet. To the north lies the island of Leros, where you can spend
the evening in the quaint fishing village of Pandeli. Dine ashore
under the stars at one of the tavernas that line the beach. Arki
and Lipso are small islands with lovely little villages that sit
at the head of small tranquil inlets. Don’t miss Patmos,
home to the monastery of St. Johns. For extended
itineraries, sail west and visit the central Cyclades,
including Mykonos, Naxos and Amorgos. Sail
south from Kos and you will find the island
of Nisiros, where a picturesque village teeters
on the steep hillside. Don’t miss the live
sulphur crater at the heart of the island. Further
south lies the island of Simi, host to an array of
spectacular anchorages nestled in deep bays and
surrounded by towering cliffs. Then you can set sail
further southeast and discover the cosmopolitan island of
Rhodes.
Wind and Sailing Conditions
In the summer the prevailing wind is the “Meltemi” blowing
from the northwest at force 4-6. In spring and autumn the
wind is less strong and blows from the southeast.

filled with original Greek architecture. This is also where you’ll find
the only ponies in Greece. Another nice open sail to the west will

wind blows stronger from the northwesterly directions at force 4-6 but
dies at the end of September.

The Ionian Islands
Best for relaxing sailing and those who want to find some of the
world’s most beautiful beaches.
The Ionian Islands are the gateway to Greece. Their vegetation and olive trees
date back to Venetian times. Throughout the year, sunshine is the rule and
some of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful beaches can be found where these
lush productive islands meet the sparkling Ionian Sea.
Begin in Corfu, the “jewel” of the Ionian Sea. This friendly, cosmopolitan
island is surrounded by a coastline of stunning beauty. South of Corfu you
find pristine beaches and the romantic charm of Paxoi. With few local
residents, this island is as tranquil as it is beautiful. From here, sail
east to Parga - crowned by a Norman castle and surrounded by
spectacular evergreen islets . Here you can discover the ruins of
an ancient Venetian fortress.
The eastern coast of Lefkas (location of our second base
in the Ionian Sea) is filled with traditional Greek
architecture and overlooks an “inland sea” .
Then there is legendary Ithaca, the fabled domain
of Homer’s Odysseus. The southernmost island
of Kephalonia offers a spectacular coastline.
Journey inland and go spelunking in a network
of caves some 20,000 years old.
Wind and Sailing Conditions
The wind and sailing conditions in the Ionian Sea are
ideal and predictable. From May to September the wind
comes from the northwest at force 2-5, mostly after 16:00
hours. In Spring and Autumn the wind is less strong and
blows usually from southwest.
Travel Notes
An ideal starting point for your cruise is our base in
Corfu (Gouvia Marina) a 15-minutes’ drive from Corfu
International Airport. Or, you may also wish to embark
from our base in Lefkas, located on the island by the
Lefkas canal, about a 30 minutes’ taxi drive away from
the airport of Aktion on the mainland.
