In 1912, Nathaniel Herreshoff, the greatest
yacht designer of the time, built a 26 foot sloop
for his personal use and called her “Alerion.”
The exceptional beauty of this boat was
widely acclaimed.
We drew inspiration from that Alerion to create
the Alerion Express, the Alerion Sport, and the
Alerion cruising lines of boats ranging in size
from 20 to 41 feet. All of the Alerion models
marry a tradition of beauty with modern design
technology and advanced composite construction.
Alerion Sailing
“Day sailing” is a phrase commonly used to describe
sailing in small boats that are neither cruisers nor
racers. We find the phrase limiting. “Alerion Sailing”
is a much richer experience, one implying the delight
of sailing a boat fast enough to race, simple enough
to welcome aboard companions with any level of skill
or to singlehand, able to get underway in minutes
and to enjoy the lightest zephyrs or a heavy breeze.
Alerion Sailing calls you to the way sailing should be.

Alerion Express 38
The Alerion Express 38, while still faithful to the
concept that single-handing is an important
capability, offers considerably more interior space
and larger cockpit than her smaller sisters.
Her traditional topsides are coupled with not only a
modern underbody but also an advanced rig. A fully
roached mainsail on a carbon fiber mast is efficient
and effective; single-line reefing lets you adjust on
the fly when the wind pipes up. And the self-tacking
jib boom allows efficient use of the jib on all points
of sail.
Her gracefully contoured cockpit comfortably seats as
many as eight or lets you stretch out with a book or to
snooze. You’ll reign supreme in the separate rear cockpit
where electric winches and complete control are right
at hand.
Standard interior
Down below, the full head and galley provides everything
you need for a weekend cruise. The balanced use of teak,
holly and traditional paneling brings the same relaxed feel
of the cockpit into the cabin.
The AE 38 uniquely fuses beauty, speed and that special
desire to sail on your own terms.

Alerion Express 33
True to the Alerion Express heritage, the AE33
has many of the delightful advantages of her larger
sister. You immediately recognize the same beauty,
performance features and refinements.
Beneath the traditional sheer and topsides is a
thoroughly modern underbody. The fully roached
main, carbon fiber mast and self-tacking jib boom
make the Alerion Express 33 an elegant performer
on all points of sail while the electric winches allow
easy adjustment to all wind conditions.
The Alerion Express 33 is the perfect yacht for those who do not
want to wait for crew (or a narrow range of conditions) to savor
a weekend, a day or even an hour out sailing. As with her larger
and smaller sisters, the easy set-up and put-away of this yacht
allows you to spend more time sailing and reminds you of the
way sailing should be.
We haven’t forgotten that the best times are usually underway.
So, the cockpit includes seats long enough for a nap or for a
bunch of friends. But creature comforts are certainly not
forgotten below where woodwork, detail and finish are proof
that this is a proper yacht.

Alerion Express 28
Sailboats are by nature graceful, and many claim
to please your eye. But the Alerion Express 28 has
consistently been recognized as one of the prettiest
boats on the water. That she also has a thoroughly
modern underwater shape simply adds to her lustre.
By preserving the traditional look topside –
where it shows, and giving the hull a modern
design below the waterline, the Alerion Express
28 offers the best of both worlds: great style and
great performance along with the pride and
admiration they bring.
A maximized cockpit and cabin makes the Alerion
Express 28 the perfect cruising yacht for you and
your spouse – for weekend adventures or just a spur
of the moment evening or after-work sail.
A very manageable sailplan with a self-tacking jib
boom is easily single-handed. And even the most
die-hard racers speak of how beautifully balanced
and delightful it is to sail the Alerion Express 28.

Alerion Express 20
In some boat lines, the smallest model is termed
an entry-level boat. We reject that notion and the
proof is the Alerion Express 20. As with her larger
sisters, here are an elegant and classic topside, a
modern underbody, gratifying speed and singlehanded ease – as nice for seasoned sailors as for
those just getting started.
To avoid the cost and aggravation of small, fast
boats becoming progressively complex club
racers, Alerion Express 20 racing is limited to two
sails: the main and the self-tacking boomed jib. No spinnakers,
asymmetricals or funny business – just pure, unadulterated,
fine sailing.
Alerion Express 20 is a “sit in” boat: you don’t need to hang
yourself or your crew over the rail. Yet, sailing performance is
spirited and steering is fingertip-sensitive. She’s a keelboat for
stability and can be left on a mooring without fear of blow-over.
Yet, she still is trailerable.
Alerion Express 20 is a one-design class. But she is also such
a fine small sailing yacht that many choose her just for private
sailing enjoyment.

The Alerion Sport Series
There is something special about the feeling you get,
tiller in hand guiding an elegant yet astonishingly fast
and nimble sailboat. Owners of our Alerion Express
28 know and praise this feeling.
So, it would seem entirely natural that we would
develop this new series of Alerion models to
deliver that same feeling but with added features
to increase your sailing enjoyment: This is the
Alerion Sport series.
Some elements of Alerion we would never tamper
with: head-turning sheer, classic overhangs, thoroughly
modern underwater shape, low coachroof, an ability to
singlehand, and a capability to sail easily in all kinds of
wind and weather.
The heart and soul of the Alerion Sport series are pure
Alerion. But we have tweaked the performance with a
lighter displacement than the Alerion Express series
and provided the offwind horsepower of an asymmetric
headsail.

When we launched our design process for this first
model of the Alerion Sport series, we discovered that
we couldn’t imagine a better hull than our much admired
and proven Alerion Express 33. Reducing its
displacement boosted the Sport 33’s SA/Displacement
ratio, and significantly enhanced its racing potential.

The cockpit can be as serious or relaxing as you
wish. Both the headsail and mainsail have additional
multi-part fine-tune lines to avoid dropping the tiller
when out alone or in close action on the racecourse.
Those long cockpit seats let a full complement of friends
or crew sit to windward or two of you to stretch out for
a nap. Control lines run through deck-clearing tunnels
to clutches and cleats, then into cleverly designed elbow-resting boxes on
either side of the companionway.
But, never forget that the intention was to put phenomenal performance
and sailing joy into a deceptively pretty yacht. The mast is carbon with
Nitronic rod rigging, the hardware package geared to sailing fast in
company, whether that’s in one-design action or against all comers.
The infusion molded SCRIMP construction delivers strength and
quality without excess weight. These boats are built to last for
generations, not be disposed of when some rule changes or fad arrives.
After all, Alerions have been described as timeless in style; why should
they not be built that way?
