Dear guests and friends of the
PRINCESS,
Autumn and winter will
soon knock on our doors,
bringing cold and damp
weather. The “grey
season” is coming and with
it fewer opportunities for
outdoor exercise as well as
more time spent inside
heated rooms. This highly
affects our immune
system and might result in
a lower threshold for the
development of colds.
Moreover, the festive
season with Christmas and
New Year is a time of joy,
but also a time for
"feasting". This
combination of procedures,
habits and influences,
which are unfamiliar or
Weiterleiten
unusual for us, can put our
doshas off balance. Your Ayurvedic treatment ensures that your
doshas are brought back to balance while you can enjoy many
hours of sunshine to improve your health in a natural way.
At home we like to enjoy hot drinks at this time of year, not only
mulled wine, but warming herbal teas, for example. We also
have a strong appetite for hot and spicy food. This is a natural
reaction of our metabolic system in order to strengthen our
immune system. Ayurvedic and Ceylonese cuisine offers a
wonderful variety of flavors by using a wide range of spices. And
not only do these spices add color and character to the various
dishes, but they also have many valuable curative and
preventive properties.
What could be better than travelling to
Sri Lanka and enjoying a rejuvenating
holiday to get through the winter!
Enjoy the quiet of the pre-Christmas season and leave the grey
November behind. I would like to point out that we offer our
special Off-season rates over Christmas until December, 27th
this year.
Sincerely yours,
Michael A. Weyland
A short review of the past summer in
the Lanka Princess
The monsoon presented itself just like I remembered it had 10
years ago: very predictable with short and heavy rains, drying
quickly afterwards. Especially in July we had a very pleasant
climate with low humidity and temperatures around 28 degrees
and our guests commented very positively on the climatic
conditions. A fresh sea breeze brought some scattered clouds,
but also long sunny periods. In August, the monsoon closed in a
little more. There was not one day when it rained constantly,
however, and it was always possible to spend time outdoors.
We are very pleased to say that, especially in 2014, we were
able to achieve a high satisfaction rate among our guests. For
the first time in the history of our hotel we received not only the
prestigious TUI Holly Award, but were also chosen as the top
hotel of the year on the West coast of Sri Lanka by the
internet portals tripadvisor and holidaycheck. We are
truly proud since this confirms that we are on the right path with
constantly improving our services.
In addition to our newer guests, who have also visited us several
times in the meantime, we were particularly pleased to welcome
back many of our much-appreciated regulars. This shows that
the concept of the Lanka Princess, combining unique ambience
and friendly atmosphere, is quite unparalleled.
We have made quite a few
changes to our gym.
Please find more details
under "Ayurveda Sports
Therapy". Our improved
water gymnastics program
lets you enjoy training with
our popular pool noodles or
take up a more strenuous
workout program with a
variety of dumbbells.
Maintenance
We would like to illustrate some of the work, which is our daily
bread and butter, because it is all about wood. As you all know,
we have lots and lots of it in every part of the house and we
have to tend to it constantly. In contrast to Europe, the climatic
conditions in Sri Lanka are an additional complication. The
intense solar radiation, occasional heavy rains and especially
the sea breeze put a lot of stress on the wood.
The following pictures show how we extensively scraped the
wood paneling on the facade above the pond at the lobby bar,
replaced individual slats and repainted the wood.
Seating on the terrace
Again and again our guests
are impressed with the
positive changes we made
over the past three years:
the wooden sun beds,
tables and chairs at the
pool bar, the completely
refurbished Superior
Rooms (equipped with
walk-in shower), the Yoga
hall, our Ayurveda hall and our gym, including a new sports
therapy area.
However, still having had plastic chairs on the terrace, did not
meet the overall appearance of the house.
Therefore, we are delighted that our new chairs are so well
received by you, dear guests!
Native Animals: The "Streptopelia
Chinensis"
Our two pigeons have been spoiled a lot in the past few months
by our hotel guests. As a result, they gave us two adorable
fledglings to say Thank You. You will certainly have the
opportunity to follow their further development on your next
visit.
Ayurveda Therapist Training
During the summer, we
focused on the training of
our new male and female
therapists. The doctors
offered lectures on the
subject of anatomy and
precise explanations of the
individual treatments. In
order to gain some handson experience, our
therapists not only treated each other, but also their
supervisors and doctors.
This is an important step on our way to offer you, dear guests,
the best therapies.
New Guest Attendant in our Ayurveda
Team
Welcome dear guests,
I would like to introduce myself
as a new employee at the
Lanka Princess Hotel.
My name is Gitta Weber, I
started working at the Lanka
Princess in August 2014 and I
am looking forward to assist
you and provide advice for your
requirements.
Ten years ago, I first came into
contact with Ayurveda through
a yoga training. In April 2009, I
traveled to Sri Lanka to get to know authentic Ayurveda in its
origins. This was a very rewarding experience that has never
quite left me, so in 2013 I decided to make Sri Lanka the centre
of my life.
I was able to learn about Guest Relations during my stay in an
Ayurveda hotel in the South of Sri Lanka.
My professional roots began as a midwife many years ago and I
have always enjoyed working with young families in health
prevention and obstetrics.
Other important aspects of my work and of my life are yoga and
yoga therapy. I am also a trained yoga teacher and yoga
therapist.
As of November 2014, I will be happy to use my knowledge and
experience to assist our hotel guests with special health
requirements. Our yoga therapy is primarily directed towards
those guests, who are unable to attend conventional yoga
classes due to certain health problems. I am looking forward to
spending time together.
Ayurveda Sports Therapy
We are delighted to introduce Dr. Thisara’s new assistant.
During the summer, Miss Kawshi received an extensive training
and we are therefore able to guarantee professional assistance
and full-time care 7 days a week. We increased our range of
sports therapy treatments by doubling the number of cardio
machines and creating a separate treatment area. Moreover,
ample space has been reserved for gymnastics and you may
also work with a Thera Ball or our latest acquisition for a full core
workout: the Wonder Core. I always thought that this part of the
training was rather inconvenient, but from my own experience I
can say that it is great fun since the time we introduced this
system.
Some extracts from our guest book
"Dr. Thisara is just fantastic. His sports program proves that you
can achieve something, even at an advanced age – and his
massage work wonders, too! Congrats for the "newcomer".
When I come back next year, it will also be because of Dr.
"Sporti". Thanks for everything! "(26 January 2014)
"Training with Dr. Thisara was a great experience. By working out
with him, I have improved my fitness and lost 6 kg. Thank you!
We'll be back next year. "(6 February 2014)
"Thanks to the excellent instruction, support and motivation
from Dr. Thisara and his assistant, I really enjoyed cardio
workout and training with gym equipment again. Thank you so
much! "(30 May 2014)
Health advice by Katharina Weyland:
Autumn is Vata season. It is characterized by typical
symptoms such as chapped lips, frizzy and dry hair with split
ends as well as dry skin.
You should therefore avoid anything that disrupts your Vata
even further. It helps to introduce a daily routine, eat warm and
oily foods instead of salads or other cold meals, avoid stress at
work as well as a dry indoor climate and staying up too long.
In autumn, hot water as well as warming teas and spices are
good for you. Give your skin a treat with oil massages, warm
baths and showers.
Just apply a drop of Nasya Oil on your nasal mucosa daily. It has
a cleansing and antibacterial effect and protects you against
those irritating winter colds.
Social Media
Our Facebook page is becoming increasingly popular. This is
certainly due to the fact that we regularly post updates on our
hotel and its surroundings, using not only photos but also
several videos. We are happy to invite you to visit our page:
