Dear Colleagues,
‘‘SUSWAGATAM’’, Welcome !
On behalf of Asian Dermatological Association, Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists
(IADVL), host organization, IADVL Maharashtra Branch, we welcome you to Mumbai – the financial capital of India. The
beautiful venue, Sahara Star International Convention Centre, is just a stone’s throw away from Mumbai Domestic Airport and is
easily approachable from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Terminal 2. Mumbai is well connected from all major cities
in world and India by air, rail and road. The convention centre is well equipped with latest state of the art technology, has 246
rooms in house, for comfortable stay. Moreover there are plenty of budget- as well as five star-hotels to choose from.
Mumbai city has a colourful history of 1,800 years. In modern times, Mumbai – or Bombay as it was known before –
came under Portugese control in the 16th century. The marriage treaty of Charles II of England and Catherine of Portugal
on 8 May 1661 placed Bombay in British possession as a part of Catherine's dowry to Charles. In 1686, Bombay was
placed under the control of the British East India Company and became head quarter of its establishments in India. What
was initially a collection of seven islands was united into a single land mass by the British company in 1782. Various
British Governors lovingly nurtured and developed the city. Thus began the transformation of original fishing islands
into a thriving modern metropolis. Today the beautiful city has a lot to offer to the tourists and the art lovers in the form of
beaches, museums, art galleries, zoo, an aquarium of international standards, a reserve forest with lion safari, caves with
ancient carvings in stone and a vibrant night life. It is said that Mumbai “never sleeps”.
Indian culture exhorts the principle of “Atithi Devo Bhav “ meaning “a guest is God”. In this glorious tradition, we assure
all delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and accompanying persons that our team will leave no stone unturned for the safety
and the comfortable stay of our guests amidst a warm, friendly atmosphere. We are looking forward to welcoming you in
October, 2016 to a feast of Asian dermatology, great Indian hospitality and sumptuous cuisines of Mumbai.
Wishing you a happy learning time and a memorable trip to India.

Asian Dermatological Association (ADA) was founded in 1986 to promote and
encourage communication among dermatologists in Asian countries. Over 30 Asian
countries have joined us making ADA a real representative of Asian dermatological
world. We have been holding Asian Dermatological Congress (ADC) every few years
touching down various Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Beijing,
Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul. The next ADC will be held in Mumbai, for the first time in India, on 1316, October, 2016 sponsored by Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists
(IADVL) . As Chairman of ADA, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my enthusiastic welcome to
our memorable 10th ADC in Mumbai this year.
In this Congress, you can find discussion on currently important issues in Asian skin and enjoy latest clues for
clinical dermatology. Also you can learn clinical pearls and what’s new in cosmetic and aesthetic
dermatology. This is why I really would like to invite you from all over the world to join the Congress at the
beautiful old city of Mumbai in the best season of the year. Of course, I will be there and we will meet the
challenges of changing paradigm as well as future options for practical clinical dermatology.
I hope everybody will come to the 10th ADC in Mumbai learning an Indian flavored hot dermatology and
deepen our fruitful friendships among Asian as well as global dermatologists.
See you in Mumbai!

Dear Friends and Fellow Colleagues,
The 10th Asian Dermatological Congress (ADC) will be held in Mumbai on October
13–16, 2016. Building on the success of the 9th ADC which were attended by around
2,000 participants, from more than 30 countries from the East and the West, the Indian
Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) has striven to
carry on the past and forge ahead into the future to organize the Congress.
With the leadership of Dr Vinay Saraf, we are pleased about the momentum and support that is building and
gathering for this Congress. We believe that it will be exciting for doctors around the World to join the event,
share your knowledge, learn more about us and have a look at this energetic historical city.
We look forward to meeting you all.
With my best personal regards.

Mumbai - The Host City
Mumbai, the most modern city in India, it captures the spirit of the changing
pace set by liberalization and modernization. Over the years, as colonialism
gave way to independence, Mumbai has transformed itself into an entity with
thriving markets, business houses and many different communities
reflecting a cosmopolitan and trendy atmosphere rarely seen elsewhere. On
the surface, it represents the ever-changing face of today’s India the old
coupled with the dynamic new, and yet at its very core, the heart of the city is
steeped in Indian customs and values.
It is the capital of Maharashtra state, and its official language is Marathi
although English and Hindi are widely spoken and understood. This busy city is also the hub of a thriving cultural life,
with a constant stream of performances in music, dance and drama. The seat of the Hindi film industry, known famously
as Bollywood, it produces the largest number of films in the world.
The very word invokes images of bright lights, dynamic energy, bustling
lanes & popular corners. Mumbai is both the commercial and entertainment
hub of India. It is the dream city to which people come from all parts of the
country to fulfill their dreams of becoming ‘successful, famous and rich’.
People of Mumbai are known all over the world for their joie de vivre, their
aptitude to work hard and, most importantly, living a highly tolerant
cosmopolitan life. People often reach dizzying heights of success and
richness.
Climate
Snuggled in the western coast of peninsular India overlooking the Arabian Sea, Mumbai naturally has a tropical wet and
dry climate. Being a metro city and one of the eminent financial hubs of India, for corporate travellers there is no
particular season to visit Mumbai but for tourists and leisure travellers the best time to visit Mumbai is in the months just
after the monsoon and before the summers. It is during this time, just when you speak of autumn, Mumbai is panoplied
with a festive mood. From Ganesh Chaturthi to Diwali, Mumbai is not only blended with a mild climate but celebrations
and joy pour upon on Mumbaities like heavy showers during the monsoon. Being nestled in coastal area, Mumbai
experiences high humidity with moderate temperatures that remains constant throughout the year.
The temperature in Mumbai in October ranges between 20 degree and 30 degree whereas it drops down to 15 degree in
November and nestles between 20 degree, which is maximum. October month is Mumbai's post-monsoon lull. The
worst of the rain has passed, humidity falls and so does the temperature, slightly at least. You may have to carry an
umbrella (for unexpected showers). It is the month for sightseeing in the city, although it's also very busy with business
events & conferences.
Public transport in Mumbai involves the transport of millions of its citizens by rail and road. Over 88% of the commuters
in Mumbai use public transport. Mumbai's public transport consists primarily of rapid transit on exclusive suburban railway
lines, bus services, public & private cabs & three wheeler auto rickshaws. A metro and a monorail system have recently been
introduced in some parts of Mumbai to provide a comfortable & fast journey.

Places in Mumbai
Hanging Gardens
Hanging Gardens and the Kamala Nehru Park both provide relaxing atmosphere & greenery is
20km from the hotel and it takes approximately 1 hour. The Hanging Gardens were built in
1880 and renovated in 1921. These gardens are popularly known as Hanging Gardens, because
of their location on the slope of a hill. It is built over three reservoirs, which store 30 million
gallons of water pumped here for cleaning before being supplied to the town.
Juhu Beach
Juhu is about 18 kms north of the city centre and is the symbol of family beach. A large
number of locals and tourists visit the beach. Juhu is the best place to bring the entire
community (Mumbaikars – residents of Mumbai) on common social grounds and much
interaction takes place amidst the natural ambience provided by the beach. Children, adults
and aged, locals and tourists all make up the population that inhibits the beach especially on
weekends.
Marine Drive
Built on land reclaimed from Back Bay in 1920, Marine Drive runs along the shoreline of the
Arabian Sea from Nariman Point past Chowpatty Beach to the foot of Malabar Hill. It’s one
of Mumbai’s most popular promenades and a favourite sunset-watching spot.
Mani Bhavan
Mani Bhavan is the old Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi. It’s a pretty, two-storied
structure that now houses a reference library with over 2000 books, a photo exhibition of the
Mahatma’s life, and well preserved memorabilia, including an old charkha or spinning
wheel that Gandhiji used to use.
Gateway of India
Gateway of India is 26 metres high stone archway is the first landmark of Bombay. The most
famous monument, it is an architectural marvel that scores over other buildings in Mumbai.
Having advantages of both location and architectural construction, it shines every morning
with morning sun of Mumbai. Pride of Mumbai, the Gateway of India occupies a special place
in the hearts of Mumbaikars. Locale of many Hindi movies, people flock to the place especially
in the evening to watch bashful play of waves and feed pigeons.
Siddhivinayak Temple
Temple devoted to Ganesh, the elephant-headed God of Good Fortune. On auspicious
Tuesdays, the serpentine queue of worshippers is over 2kms long. People stand for several
hours with offerings of flowers and coconut, waiting patiently for a two minute “Darshan” or
meeting with the Lord.
Haji Ali Dargah
A cluster of white domes rising out of the blue expanse to kiss another blue expanse. Seems that
the white domes are there to provide a vital connection between earth and heaven. After
meandering through a rocky path, one reaches Haji Ali Dargah, which is in the midst of sea. The
dargah can be reached only in low tide as the path connecting to the dargah gets entirely
submerged in water during monsoons. In monsoon one gets the impression that entire dargah is
floating in the sea and hence Haji Ali is also called the floating dargah of Mumbai.
