The El Tiempo weather site has issued a warning stating that Spain
will experience severe storms and
extreme temperatures this week,
soaring above 40°C
Many areas have been placed on high alert
for strong storms with heavy hail falling
in mountainous areas and high temperatures in the south possibly causing some
spectacular thunderstorms.
Following on from high temperatures last
weekend - where 44.5 ° C was recorded
on Sunday at the Cordoba airport and in
Andalucía many parts exceeding 42 ° C,
predictions are that as the week progresses the temperatures will reach similar
highs by the weekend.

Ibiza Reggae Festival

rock steady Eddie will be hot footing their blue beat feet
along to Las Dalias for this year’s festival of reggae later
this month.

Tanabata (meaning "Evening of the seventh"), also known as the
Star Festival, is a Japanese festival celebrating the meeting of the
deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and
Altair) . According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers,
and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of
the seventh lunar month. In Japan Tanabata is celebrated by writing
wishes on small pieces of paper and hanging them on bamboo.

Millenium
M
illennium, as you may easily deduce, now celebrates its 16th year
as one of Cala de Bou’s most popular and lively party bars. Though
there are several along the bay offering a
similar night-time venue of music, sports and
generally a good night out, Millennium differs
from most in two respects, actually, I’ll make
that three.
First it is open all day, every day. From 9.30am
until the wee small hours, it is typically one of
the first bars to open in the season and last to
close.
Second, it is a much favoured bar by many of
the locals, and has something of an afternoon
club reputation. This is no surprise as the island bar makes it a very social place to take a
drink and its ‘family feel’ extends beyond that
of blood to the long serving and much loved
staff – yes Tash, we’re talking about you. This
customer loyalty also extends to its tourist

trade with a very high number of holiday makers returning year after year.
The third factor which has to be worthy of
particular merit and mention is the Millennium breakfast. As you can see pictured, it
offers a simply ridiculous amount of food for
4.50€, that is not a typo, the breakfast you can
see is just 4.50€.
Ok, few of us would reach retirement if we
had Millenniums breakfast daily, but when on
holiday or for a resident treat (a treat very
often related to the extent of the previous
night’s indulgences) it is a joy to all those
cravings we are told to resist.
Across the entire menu, which ranges from
simple snacks through to full meals and also
to the bar and cocktail prices, Millennium are
out to win you over with great value along
with great taste.
In asking what we should focus our attentions
on for the purposes of a review, Pep’s recom-
A lot has changed in the 33 years since entrepreneur and owner of Cala de Bou’s Millennium party/sports bar took up his
first job at the hotel Pinet Playa.
We talked to Pep about his background and thoughts on San
Antonio bay - past, present and future.
Pep married an English bride Elisa, and they have 3 children
Pep junior, Tom and Lou with both Pep and Lou also working in
the family business.
Originally Pep hails from what he described as the poorest
area of Spain Las Hurdes which borders on Portugal. “We lived
a very basic life and had very little. I come from a family of
shepherds and remember as a 10 year old boy herding goats to
market with my father. The house we lived in was very simple,
a single room with nothing more than curtains dividing up the
sleeping areas. We would cook our staple foods of pork and
potatoes over an open fire in the middle of the room and all of
us children at one time or another were burnt from falling
asleep and slumping forward into the cooking pan. A very simple life.”
“It was in 1981 that I convinced a travel company rep to exchange a ticket I had for a ferry to Majorca to one for Ibiza as I
wanted to come and see the Ibiza hippies”.
Pep took up his first job as a waiter at the Pinet Playa hotel in
Cala de Bou on what has become known as Reggae Beach. “It
was a very different world. At Pinet Playa we were still using
silver service in the restaurant and I stayed there for several
years deciding to move on when they changed from that old
school professional style. I was invited to open and manage Sgt
Peppers which I did from 1986 – 1991.”
Sgt Peppers is one of the venues that carry something of a
legend status in the bay. Pep told us it was here that he first
used the “check it out” catchphrase that many people will
know him by.
“In ‘91 I moved to manage the Apts. Bahia, San Antonio. Both
at the Bahia and at Sgt peppers we were pulling in huge numbers, typically 400 or more at the Bahia where we held very
popular karaoke nights.
“Two doors along from the Bahia was a plot of empty land
which the owner offered to me and having done well from the
years before, I bought the land and managed the building of
the Millennium bar which opened on 12th June 2000. We were
off to a great start and would often be turning people away.

We were well advised. As you can see and
as with their entire menu, there can be no
argument with the quantity offered - it’s
simply huge, but also an extremely tasty
and juicy steak. The glory however
comes in a silver pot of perfect pepper
potion. You can tell this is one that has
been refined over the years, with the
recipe kept safely locked in a vault
and chefs sworn to secrecy on whatever they hold most dear. Both
sweet and fiery I feel sure that if
they sold it on draught beer sales
would slump overnight. Actually,
Vodka and Pepper Sauce shots.
Would that work? Only one way to
find out ….
Of course, this was before anybody had heard of all inclusive.
Much has changed in the last 16 years and I asked Pep what he
felt had been for the better or worse.
“The growth of all-inclusive has had a huge impact along this
stretch of Cala de Bou. 90% of accommodation in our immediate area is booked on an all-inclusive basis. Also, 600 beds that
were categorised as tourist accommodation have changed to
residential.”
Long term residents may remember that several years ago the
bay of San Antonio underwent San Jose council’s “plan of excellence”. Many feel that the high ambitions of the plan as it
was first presented, including tree lined pedestrian areas with
only service vehicles allowed, was betrayed in its execution.
The major consequence of the plan was that the then two way
traffic on the main tourist road that serves the entire length of
the bay was changed to a single lane road leading away from
San Antonio. Pep has strong views. “The plan of excellence has
been terrible for the area. I was one of the only people against
it at the time, but the traffic flow all leading away from San
Antonio has the result that all of the tourist flow from the
coastal areas of Port des Torrent and Cala Bassa completely
bypass the bay. Also with buses only picking up on the upper
bay road, people do not see much of what the bay has to offer.
We still do very well, but everybody around here has to work a
lot harder because of these changes over the last decade or
so.”
I asked Pep what changes he would make if he were in the San
Jose council hot seat.
“Well I think the paseo will happen at some point. I think we
have to accept that as reality. If I had my way, Cala de Bou
would be given far greater community facilities. It feels that
we are overlooked a lot of the time. For example in Ses Paisses
where they have a population of only 3000, they have the police headquarters, swimming pool, sports facilities, public car
parking, a good medical centre, basically everything you would
expect to find in a self-contained community. Cala de Bou has a
population of almost three times Ses Paisses, but we have
none of that. There is land available, adjoining Avenida San
Agustin, the main road from San Antonio to Port des Torrent,
but for political reasons I can’t see it being used and so we are
left as a community without the things that make it a community.
“Another idea I put forward was the idea of a road train that
could do a constant loop around the bay creating movement
and giving tourists an easy way to explore the area. This would
be particularly good in bridging the gap that exists where there are
the three abandoned hotel projects that remain
an
eyesore and leave tourists at opposite ends of the bay not
realising the other end exists. I put the idea of a road train
forward and it was dismissed immediately, and then surprise
surprise, a road train project was announced for the east coast
of San Jose linking the airport to Ibiza Town a short time later.
Funny that.”

Amnesia Back
The Guardia Civil were back at the Ibiza nightclub
this morning after spending 17 hours at the venue
yesterday.
Spanish police have returned to search Amnesia following their first raid in the early hours of July 5th.
According to the Diario De Ibiza, The Guardia Civil resumed their search of Amnesia this morning after spending 17 hours in the club yesterday—from 7 AM through
midnight—before allowing the club to reopen for a Together party. (There was some uncertainty about whether that party would go ahead, with the promoter at one
point tweeting that it had been cancelled.)
The identities of four people arrested have been confirmed: Amnesia owner Martin Ferrer, Marti Ferrer,
who's the owner's son and the club's artistic director,
Amnesia general/business manager David de Felipe and
Amnesia accountant Vicente Pérez de Montis.
Police, who are "investigating alleged crimes against the
Treasury" according to Diario De Ibiza, also raided the
suspects' properties in Ibiza and Barcelona, as well as a
boat owned by Martin Ferrer. They also searched security boxes in various banks in Ibiza and looked into various
bank accounts related to the suspects. An Ibiza-based IT
company that works with Amnesia was also searched.
Tonight's HYTE event at Amnesia is due to go ahead,
with the party's promoter posting the words "yes we are
open" on his Instagram account.

200 kg of goods confiscated from street vendors in
Cala Bassa raid.
An operation led by the Chief of Police of San Jose,
along with police and local authority officers, undertook
a raid against street hawking in Cala Bassa on the morning of Tuesday 5th of July.
They confiscated drinks, fruit, sarongs and jewellery
amassing to approximately 200 kilo, and in the process
officers imposed a total of 12 complaints for breaching
Municipal violations.
The operation is part of the Summer Special Plan of the
Local Police of San Jose, which sets out to intensify
raids against street hawking on the beaches, concentrating particularly in the peak season months of July and
August.
This issue is dedicated
to the memory of Caroline Aherne, who died

It is fitting to be able to do so again now.
A brilliant actress and arguably even better writer. Very sad.

Online Ibiza & Formentera Encyclopaedia
Launched
The minister of education, heritage and several other
things, David Ribas, presented the new version of the
encyclopaedia of Ibiza and Formentera at a press launch
this week.
The Ibopedia (I just made that up, it’s not called that but
it probably should be) is available under dual domains in
both Catalan and Castellano
The resource has had a complete overhaul in the interface. Is hoped the changes make it far more readable,
easier to search and find information, and will also be
much easier to update with new content. “The new version will be much faster, fulfils the current requirements
of major search engines, and also has the facility for users to enter their own suggestions and contributions” it
was explained. It will also be more user friendly to access
on mobile devices and the content can be exported on an
article by article basis in PDF format.
Work on the first version of the encyclopaedia was first
published in 1989 and has since been published in 13
paper volumes. This is the first version that will not go
to print such is the dynamic updating plan.

The court of Barcelona has sentenced Lio Messi and his
father after being tried in June for defrauding the Hacienda of 4.1m€ between 2007 and 2009. The income was
received for image rights of Barcelona’s star player and
none of it declared for taxation. Messi had already repaid
the total amount of tax due and paid a fine prior to the
trial in which his defence was ‘it was his father in charge
of all matters of financial management’. Messi is at liberty to appeal the sentence, however under Spanish law he
may not actually go to prison anyway as sentences of
two years and under are routinely suspended where
there have been no prior criminal convictions.
Lidl To Open 3rd Store
International supermarket chain Lidl has commenced
construction of their third superstore which is set to open
in the autumn. The new development is located on the
outskirts of Ibiza town on the San Antonio road in Polygon Can Bufi. Although on the outskirts of Ibiza town,
the development falls on land within the borough of Santa Eulalia who have confirmed that all relevant licenses
have been obtained.

It seems that the aliens on board have gone to extensive
lengths to hide their real identity. Having asked to be
taken to our leader, they claim to have been sailing from

Chris Brown has once again found him-
self in hot water, this time for allegedly
destroying a fancy rental home in Ibiza.
According to TMZ, the home's landlord
claims the 27-year-old star damaged the
home, owed thousands of dollars and had
caused much more in damages.
Chris had rented the villa just this past
week while on his European tour, and
posed numerous shots of him, his pals and
scantily clad ladies enjoying the home's

TMZ, the landlord said that someone had
thrown knives into the walls of the home
or craved into the walls with knives.
Then things turned from bad to gross,
with the landlord telling police someone
had peed one of the beds and there was
vomit 'everywhere'.
Chris then was tardy leaving the villa,
according to the report, so police were
called to make sure he left.
Reportedly the star owes $26,000 in rent
but because of the damages, the landlord
wants $60,000.
However, a source close to Chris told
TMZ that it was not a case of Chris not
paying, the landlord's bank account had
an issue but payment has now been made.
It seems the Loyal singer is not too worried about what happened in Ibiza, as
while he is now in South Africa, on Friday - just before news broke - he posted a
picture of himself and two friends out on
the Ibiza home's patio.
This is just the latest in a string of incidents that have occurred involving the
singer in the past few weeks.
This week it was revealed that iconic and incarcerated - rap producer Suge
Knight is suing the star claiming he failed
to hire sufficient security to prevent Suge
being shot at one of his parties.

If, like me, you’re not into Ibiza’s non-stop dance music
backing track there are other places to go.
My favourite little dive bar is tucked into San Antonio
Bay, it’s called Maxim’s Bar and it plays Rock music in
its various forms… Rock, Metal, Indie, NuMetal, and if
you’re really nice to Jayne (the owner) she’ll play pretty much anything of the Rock persuasion on request.
(Ed – I’ll vouch for that, on my last visit my request for
Sex Pistols Pretty Vacant was playing before my beer
had finished being poured).
Maxim’s made its mark on the Ibizan Pool league this
year. OK that mark was bottom of the league, but
that’s to be expected as the new kids on the block, and
reassuringly that is the only context you’ll hear new
kids on the block at maxims, unless Rammstein do a
thrash metal cover of “I’ll be loving you (forever)”. It's
free drinks all round if they do (probably).
The one-man band that is Jack Garratt performed at
Ibiza Rocks last Wednesday. Standing centre stage surrounded by a drum kit, electric drums and an array of
keyboards and other gizmos, from the off he wowed
the attentive crowd. Switching between singing, playing keys, donning drumsticks and playing the guitar
occasionally, there was no respite for Jack as he delivered song after song from his repertoire. Many of the
songs were from his debut album ‘Phase’, released in
February this year, which went to number 3 in the UK
album chart with a few covers thrown in for good measure, including Michael Jackson’s ‘Rock With You’. He
mixed electro-balladry with huge drops, intermittently
smashing the drums like his life depended on it whilst
singing his heart out over the top. The crowd loved him
and responded by singing along with him and waving
their arms in the air. The 24 year old held his own on
the stage and it was an impressive performance from a
very talented guy.
HYTE

After its hugely successful debut season HYTE is back
at Amnesia for a 16 week Techno feast. Exactly one
month after its pre-opening party on June 1st it was
time to get the HYTE party going for Summer 2016,
with its new YES TO ALL policy and huge DJ line up,
bringing some of the biggest names in Techno to Ibiza.
Such heavyweights include: LOCO DICE, PAN-POT,
GUTI, MAYA JANE COLES, DUBFIRE, RADIO SLAVE to
name just a few AND some special guests also along
the way.
I’ve only been coming to Ibiza for 5 years but to say the
queue was long for amnesia would be an understatement. I’ve never have I witnessed anything like it. The
huge line of people (a lot Ibiza workers) waited all the
way up past the merchandising store. I think this really
shows how big HYTE has come and is now up there with
the big brands not just in Ibiza but worldwide.
Starting the night off in the Terrace was the Dutch DJ
Benny Rodrigues, the night was just getting started so
the Terrace still a little patchy but the production in
the room looked amazing. With the DJ booth (where I
think it always should always been) in the far end of
room, and a new fluorescent light display from the suspending ceiling, and the always outstanding sound system, the Terrace was ready for a night of techno!!
In the main room was Chris Liebing bringing a mix of
techno, tech-house and minimal techno. Even for 12.30
the main room was almost already full to capacity
which shows the following of this German DJ.
After Chris´s monster set I wondered into the Terrace

Unleashed, and in Ibiza perhaps unknown, but very
well known in their Amsterdam home …. Very well
known if you mix in certain circles that is. Leather
studded circles with a skin tight covering of PVC
would be the type of circle you’d be looking for.

on Friday 8th July, taking over the suitably dark
and moody back room for a night mixing dance

while they played some of the finest techno the island has to offer and in particular
remember the crowd really coming alive as they played (or pucked out as we would
say in my motherland of Ireland) Kaiserdisco - Freedom. With HYTE´s new YES TO ALL
logo pulsating on the large screen in the background and the sound system pumping,
the night was well and truly on its way. FREEDOM, FREEDOM, FREEDOM!!!

After Pan-Pots massive 2 hour set it was time to cross over to the Terrace to witness
the almost Godfather of HYTE, LOCO DICE. I walk in to the Terrace and the dance
floor is full with heads and hands in the air, and I hear the dark sound of Emmanuel
Jal – Kuar (Henrik Schwarz Remix). The German DJ has the room pumping and the
sun is just coming up.
Loco Dice kept the crowd for the duration of his set up to and past his final record,
the sun now fully shining it was time to get that long disco bus journey home. If
HYTES opening party was anything to go by it’s going to be one crazy summer.

Satan Falls Like Lightening
From Heaven

It is well known that Jesus had twelve disciples or, in Hebrew, talmidim. In fact Jesus had many more disciples.
On one occasion he sent out seventy disciples (talmidim).
He sent them out in pairs ahead of him to every village
and town where he himself intended to go. Jesus gave
them authority and instructions to “heal the sick”. When
the disciples returned from their mission they said to
Jesus that, “even the demons submit to us in your name”.
Jesus then said something quite extraordinary to them:
“I saw Satan fall like lightening from heaven”. (Luke
10:18). It is reasonable to presume that Jesus had a prophetic vision or some kind of intuitive spiritual vision.
Let’s assume for the sake of argument that the spiritual
vision of Jesus was veridical and that it relates to an actual event albeit a spiritual event. When did the event of
Satan’s downfall from heaven take place? Scholars who
are familiar with the biblical and Jewish traditions offer a
number of possibilities. I shall list just three of the most
likely candidates. The event of Satan’s fall from heaven
like lightening took place:
1. Before the creation of this space-time universe. Biblical
and other ancient Jewish traditions describe this event in
highly symbolic language. It has to do with the origin of
evil – the angelic rebellion in heaven. The war in heaven
was a rebellion against God’s plan to create biological
creatures and to enter into a profound relationship with
them!
2. At the death and resurrection of Jesus. On one occasion Jesus, referring to his impending death, said: “now is
the prince of this world (i.e. the Devil) cast out”.
3. In the last days beyond space-time when the Devil,
according to the Apocalypse, is ultimately defeated, together with the entire demonic realm, and is caste into
the bottomless pit once and for all.
These three events may actually be one event looked at
from different perspectives. The Apocalypse describes
the vision of Jesus in highly symbolic terms:
“A portent appeared in heaven: a great dragon ….His tail
swept a third of the stars (i.e. angels) of heaven and
throw them to the earth …. And war broke out in heaven;
the Archangel Michael and his angels fought against the
dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they
were defeated, and there was no longer any place for
them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that
ancient serpent who is called the Devil and Satan, the
deceiver of the whole world- he was thrown down to the
earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” (Rev
12)

I never fail to be humbled and touched by the good hearted people of Ibiza. On Friday I held a Fundraiser at Smugglers Inn for my 13 year old cousin as she needs surgery
to correct triple curve scoliosis of the spine. Paul and
Angela at Smugglers agreed to the event as soon as I
asked and I can't thank them enough for their support.
We were entertained throughout the day by Ibiza Elvis,
DJ Wild Bill Kelly, Backbeat, Emma-Jane, Nikki Belle and
Ibiza Princess and Superhero Parties, all of whom gave
their time free of charge during peak season. As soon as I
started organising, I was overwhelmed by the number of

local businesses offering vouchers, goods, dinners, clothing, jewellery and days out as prizes for the raffle and at
how many people offered to help out. Our star prizes
were promoted online as well as on the day and were a
Princess Party courtesy of Ibiza Princess and Superhero
Parties, which was won by Julia Daniels and a sunset boat
trip for 10 on Boats Ibiza's Sunseeker Camargue, kindly
donated by Neil Wood and publicised wonderfully online
by Jane Charilou. From this alone we raised 425€ and our
winner was Brian Stirling.
I'd also like to give special thanks to Tarina Evans and
Rhian and Blue Gibbs who were invaluable in selling raffle
and prize draw tickets and to Cat Ribas Pearce for painting the children's faces for hours.
Between donations made online by people entering the
prize draws, supporting a kettlebell challenge I'm doing
or just made out of kindness and money donated on the
day for raffle tickets , face painting, cakes or put into one
of several donation buckets we raised 1118€!! A massive
thankyou from the bottom of my happy heart goes out to
every one of you who attended, donated, supported and
made the event such a success, there's no way we could
have raised this much without you. Love to you all.

performances ... but Ibiza is the real star of the show

We Are Your Friends has an awful lot to answer for. The truly
appalling, point-missing, star-packed cash-in attempt failed
miserably to capture the magic, mystery and soul of dance
music.
Here, though, we have the counterbalance. White Island is the
Amy Childs @ Jacaranda
randa and Vista Del Mar as the street is closed to traffic
and chairs and tables set up around an outdoor stage.
On Friday night, it's Here Come The Girls, an evening of
entertainment by female performers. Emma Jane, Joanne Jollie and Hayley J will be giving showstopping vocal performances of a range of genres, before Charlie
Starr takes to the stage with her tribute to Tina Turner
and the Abba Angels perform and Gemma Extrema does
her breathtaking fire show. The fun continues at 7pm
next Saturday there'll be a water balloon fight for the
kids (and big kids!) followed by entrtainment by comedy
vocalist Harry James, Johnny Deep's Neil Diamond tribute, Billy Moon, Blooz Brothers, a fire and dance show
and even an after party. On Sunday Celebrity Sundays
isback at Jacaranda with special surprise guests for the Es
Canar fiestas. In the streets thrughout the weekend
there'll be food and drink promotions, face painting and
glitter tattoos for the kids, close up magic and much
more besides ...get yourselves to Es Canar!
pulsating rhythm of classic, iconic dance tunes to the soulless,
talentless, downright robbery of EDM, of which We Are Your
Friends was the celluloid equivalent.
This film – couched in a swirl of comedy, gangland drug dealing
shadiness and romance – is ultimately a love letter to Ibiza
penned by one of the people who knows it best, writer Colin
Butts.
His books have, in a roundabout way, chronicled the lengthy
chunk of his life devoted to the island and that shines through
every glorious frame. This film gets our beloved island in a way
no other has done previously, other than the landmark, eradefining A Short Film About Chilling.
With Benjamin Turner at the helm and a largely extremely
impressive cast, the tale romps along nicely.
New city boy Connor is dragged back to the island he left in
shame, vowing never to return after accidentally costing his
friend and mentor everything thanks to foolish drug antics
There are nice bits of comic relief and a couple of thuggish
Brits – including a revelatory Darren Day as a hardman with the
best line of the whole film.
Then there’s drug deals gone wrong through misunderstand-
ing and double-crossing and a charming triple love story: between boy and girl, between friends rediscovering each other
and most of all, between our anti-hero and the island he just
can’t escape however he tries.
Lyndon Ogbourne is excellent in the lead as the everyman out
of his depth and struggling to do the right thing, while Billy
Boyd plays club boss Kyle to perfection, showing just how
nuanced an actor he is.
But the revelations are stunning female lead Gala Gordon and
Elliot Gleave, better known as rapper Example. Hollywood
beckons for both.
With the island’s beauty, soul, dark side and its undeniable pull
on those who have been enraptured by it perfectly captured,
this is the film which will hopefully show the world what our
island and our music are truly about.
Forget Zac Efron – Ibiza is the only true star of any dance music
movie. And that’s what this film is really about.
As discussed in the movie, there’s a feeling of homecoming
that happens when you step off the plane and smell that Balearic air. This film is the first time I’ve felt that without being on
Ibiza.

It seems every TOWIE fan on the island turned up to Jacaranda this weekend to witness Amy Childs take to the
decks for the most recent installment of Celebrity Sundays. The place was packed, people in the pool, around
it, chilling out on bali beds and sipping cocktails and
dancing around their tables. There was a great atmosphere as always, made even more electric by the
palpable excitement from some at the notion of
meeting and sharing space with Ms Childs . As someone who left the UK before the TOWIE phenomenon
kicked off and someone who never watched reality
shows anyway, I didn't really know anything about
Amy Childs. A quick google told me she left the show
in 2011 and has since opened a clothing boutique,
brought out her own fashion line, appeared on several
TV panel shows, is due to be on Celebrity Masterchef this
week, and brought up several photos of her holidaying
here in Ibiza in an array of swimwear. Her reputation as a
fashionista was certainly lived up to as she sashayed
around in a black jumpsuit with transparent lace legs
which showed off her famous curves to the maximum.
She definitely turned a few heads.
Before Amy played, a fantastic light show featuring dancers with neon lit hoops, staffs and even a coat full of
lights performed to ethereal and dramatic world music by
the pool - a mesmerising display which was thoroughly
enjoyed by all in attaendance. Next came Amy. During my
little google search, I'd found scant information about
her DJing career, so wasn't expecting a great deal in that
department, to be honest. It was, therefore, a pleasant
surprise when she took to the mic to introduce herself,
saying 'I love Ibiza' and asking everyone if they did too,
before telling them all to dance as she kicked things off
with one of my all time favourite classic dance tracks
'Rhythm of the Night'. This set the tone for the rest of
her set as she played classic track after classic track, moving in front of the booth to dance around the pool with
very happy holidaymakers and encourage the crowd to
join in. By the end of the night the pool was full of splashing revellers and every floor space was taken up by a
dancing spectator, I think it's safe to say that this was the
busiest Celebrity Sunday yet.
The Jacaranda is one of the hosts of the Es Canar fiestas
next weekend and the line-up for that looks fanatasic.
For those who haven`t been in previous years, the Es
Canar fiestas are a weekend long series of street parties
and special events in the beautiful little resort, with
something for everyone. They're held between The Jaca-

The day came.
I caught just a little too much sun.
Who or what was I to blame?
The sun, way up there?
The suns rays perhaps?
Or maybe myself for standing in the light too long?
Nature does not tell stories.
Nature does not argue the point.
If the sun shines the creatures and elements of the
earth do not gather to debate the truth of it nor the
rightness nor wrongness of it.
Not a single moment nor atom of energy is wasted,
standing about debating the facts.
Instead every moment, every movement is devoted to
surviving and thriving.
Nature has done well.
Humans not so much so.
When we tell stories, as we humans are wont to do, it
can enrich our lives. But when we veer too far from
the truth, become too consumed with who told the
good story or not, rather than the story itself, we tend
to go wrong.
And so I stepped into the shade and debated what my
story should be, as I searched for the Aftersun.

Retro Flares
As Summer has landed and fully opened its doors, it's time to rejig your wardrobe. And where
better a place to start than by investing in some new lightweight denim flares? The leglengthening flare is enjoying a style resurgence right now - here's how to wear it...
1. A
flare must be worn as long as possible to give the
illusion of length and height, but don’t let the fabric
drag on the ground as this immediately makes you
look shorter - plus, no one wants a frayed hem.
2. Always wear flares with a heel to give you an even
longer leg - wedges tend to work.
3. When shopping for a pair, make sure that you take
your chosen heel with you, so that you get the
length spot on.
4. Aim for a slim fit around the waist, hips and thighs
with the flare splaying out from the knee.
6. A dark denim flare is a classic and will always look
chic, but for a spring/summer update try a middenim wash.
7. High-waisted flares look great with a plain T-shirt
and classic blazer, or jackets that hit just below the
bottom . Avoid ¾ length jackets as they can be too
heavy and boxy.
8. Don’t over-do it on the belt, keep it simple or risk
looking too retro.
9. Another shoe to wear is a cool clog. Preferable
with a chunky wooden heel and if you check out

10. Last but not least, keep hair and make up to
a minimum. There’s way too much going on as it
is. Go hippy. Go natural.

DHL T-Shirt
At last Autumn’s Paris week, an average looking
male model strutted out on to the Vetements
catwalk . He wore Dr Martens boots, shiny black
trousers, an open black shirt and what was to
become the most unlikely “it” item of spring/
summer 2016: a DHL T-shirt.
The reaction fell into two camps. Some fashionistas furiously snapped pictures to post on
Instagram; others quizzically wondered WTF?
The Paris shows are traditionally a world of
sequin gowns, champagne on trays and sets
that cost millions. A T-shirt with such a common logo really threw everyone. Vetements – a
label known for wonky 90s-influenced streetwear, real-world models and oversized fits, had
arguably brought anti-fashion back to fashion.
The shirt went on sale earlier this year at high-fashion
retailers. The hype quickly reached hysteria. It has now
sold out at most retailers, despite a price tag of £185. In
the frenzy to get their hands on it, some enterprising fashion fans even took to
DHL’s own website, where they could buy an almost
identical T-shirt for £4.50.
Models, bloggers, stylists and photographers
made it an Instagram staple. It spawned parody
memes. Even the chairman of DHL, was photographed wearing the Vetements T-shirt. The image
appeared in GQ, and Look Magazine. It prompted
The Daily Mail to lead the “would you pay £185 for
this T-shirt?” story – because of course, THEY were
appalled. So far it has become the biggest fashion
story of 2016.
What did it all mean? Was it a
brilliant kitsch idea or blatant
blag? A comment on global capitalism or a high-fashion conspiracy?
Perhaps the ultimate irony is
that there is almost no twist at
all. The only difference between this T-shirt and the one
available to buy in bulk, worn
by actual couriers, is the
stripe that goes around the
back, and a fit designed to be
worn bunched at the waist!
Finally, the fashion world
has gone mad.

converted penalty. So, extra-time, and both teams not really
going for it with penalties looming which came to pass, with,
amazingly 3 Germans missing penalties. Unfortunately, Italy
missed 4 and eventually lost out 6-5 but they did have their
chance when they were leading 4-3 but Man Utd's Darmian
missed the crucial one and, as per usual, the Germans won. As
for their semi on Thursday against the cock(erell)-a-hoop
French, well, striker Gomez is out injured, as is probably
Schweinsteiger, and Hummels, a key defender, is suspended
so I'm actually going for a French win, with Pogba,
Griezeman, Giroud et al at the top of their game and the
home crowd being pivotal.
So to the Final, Wales/France would be incredible but you
have to watch out for Portugal as the crème-de-la-creme (ie.
Cristano, Queresma, Nani and Pepe) usually come to the fore
when it really matters but I'm gonna be a total coward on this
one and sit on the fence but let's just hope the best teams
win through to Sunday's Final.

Tennis
and the first week of Wimbledon has turned out quite nicely
for Mr Murray as one of his major nemesis' and clear favourite for yet another Major, World No 1 Djokovic departed the
Championships, beaten in the 3rd round, surprisingly in 4
sets, by veteran journeyman and unseeded American Sam
Querry. But, and there is a huge but, Our Andy, now clear
favourite for his 2nd title according to the pundits (Henman,
Castle, Lloyd, Bates, Mottram who never actually won anything of substance between the lot of 'em, and who, of
course, know everything), having just defeated bad boy Aussie Nick Kyrgios to reach the Quarters, is probably, depending
on no more shocks, now going to meet one of his other thingamajigs in the form of Federer in the Final, as the Fed Xpress
so far looks back to his imperial best and what an opportunity
for him to extend his Majors record and also the possibility of
reclaiming a Wimbledon crown that he last won in 2012. As
for the rest, well, same ole, same ole regarding the Brits in
both Women’s and Men’s but at least Brother Jamie is still
there in the Doubles. The Women’s title looks destined to
go to that amazing Amazon Serena Williams as she guns
rilliant on the pitch but also a word on the
for yet another title to equal Steffi Graf's record of 22
terrace. As a vocal supporter myself, basically Majors. We'll see!

gone back to his Brexit lair (a la Johnson, Grove, Farage, silly
boys!) in darkest Herefordshire, but is back in September so
you just may read his thoughts again then.

Lewis Hamilton wins Austrian Grand
Prix after crash with Nico Rosberg

Fans boo Hamilton after incident but stewards punish Rosberg
After a titanic battle in the mountains of Styria with his Mercedes team-mate, Nico Rosberg, he emerged triumphant and
defiant in the face of an angry reception from the home
crowd.
The British driver’s psychological hold over his German rival
now far outweighs the 11-point deficit he has in the world
championship standings but the manner of his win – after a
last-lap collision with the race leader, Rosberg – may have far
wider ramifications for Formula One.
The Austrian Grand Prix was tense enough but it was the final
lap that defined the race and possibly the season. The overtaking move and collision between the two Mercedes at turn
two on lap 71 promoted the chasing Hamilton to victory and
Rosberg to an unfortunate fourth place. The stewards found
him to blame for not leaving “racing room” and he was given
a 10-second race penalty that did not affect the outcome but
the cost to the team was a one-two finish that would have
been their third on the trot in Spielberg.
Although struggling with his brakes, it is unclear whether
Rosberg turned late deliberately into the corner in an attempt to take out his team-mate as it appeared. The debriefing is likely to be long and unpleasant.
Hamilton had no issues with his own uncompromising approach. “I was just thinking I want to overtake this guy with
my every breath,” he said. “I’m smiling now because I did
everything I could in the right way. I’m fighting for a world
championship. So I’m going to keep fighting and hopefully

Captain Morgan's boys completed a 3-0 rout of the Sri

Cardiff, highlighted by a malevolent 70 in 48 balls from Jos
Buttler (why, oh why is he not being selected for the Tests)
and a back-to-form 93 from The Root. Brilliant and good
practice for the highlight of this summer's 4-Test Series
against Pakistan, starting on Thursday at Lord's. Little bit of
needle here methinks as Lords will host the Test return of
Pakistan's Amir, now well in to his stride after serving at Her
Majesty's pleasure due to his notorious role in the matchfixing fracas 6 years ago, almost to the day, and fittingly, back
at the home of cricket where it all started.
Cycling
and can it really be a year since Chris Froome won the Tour
de France! How time flies, but it was his compatriot Mark
Cavendish who got off to a flyer winning the first leg to claim
the Yellow Jersey altho' he didn't wear it for long as he was
beaten in the 2nd leg.
However, the Manxman got his revenge in the 3rd stage to
win in a photo-finish to join Bernard Hinault with 28 stage
through these experiences there will be no more, they’ll be a
blip in the mist and we’ll keep racing.”
Mercedes were deeply unhappy that, despite their dominant
position in the constructors’ championship, points had been
lost and as a consequence the spectre of team orders has
returned to F1.
They have always made the point that they allow their drivers
to race and it has not been an idle boast but this incident,
coming after the pair took one another out in Barcelona on
the opening lap earlier in the season, appears to have been a
step too far.
Before Barcelona they had a serious coming together at the
Belgian Grand Prix in 2014 after which Rosberg was admonished and the pair have fought fairly since. Two incidents in
one season has provoked a strong reaction, with the team
looking for a third constructors’ title and facing their strongest challenge of the past three years from Ferrari despite a
lead of 103 points.
The Mercedes executive director, Toto Wolff, was furious,
describing the collision as “brainless”. He added: “They need
to take the consequences. Can you imagine a DNF like Barcelona? We’re looking like a bunch of idiots and it’s disrespectful to 1,500 people who worked their nuts off on the car.
Talking has not brought us any further. We have to recommend team orders.”
The critical incident occurred at the end of a remarkably
tense fight. Mercedes had begun Hamilton on a one-stop to
counter the threat from Ferrari and Rosberg on a two-stop.
They switched the strategy for the British driver mid-race and
it gave Rosberg, who had taken the lead with the undercut at
the first stop, the advantage but never by more than two
seconds.
The German will have had the fat lady warbling in his headphones as the denouement approached but he also had a
problem with a brake failure. He had kept the gap to Hamilton fairly stable but the world champion had the legs in the
form of better tyres, better anchors and the steely-eyed
commitment to his cause.
This was the stuff of which legends are made and weaker
men broken. Down but not out, Hamilton went round the
outside at two, Rosberg went to squeeze him –just as Hamilton has done to the German, notably in Canada and Austin –
and braked very late. Hamilton went wide but the contact
cost the German his front wing and the place as Hamilton
returned to the track undamaged to hare off for the flag.
Rosberg then lost further places to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
Hamilton’s engineer, Peter Bonnington, said to him: “That’s
wins, with only legend Eddy Merckx's record of 34 ahead of
him. As for the race itself, overall leader Peter Sagan has an 8
second lead after 3 stages with Our Chris in 4th, but only a
further 10 seconds behind. By the way, if anybody here in
Ibiza happens to come across Jules, of Soul City fame, please
tell him to contact me as he has always been a TdF aficionado
and my spy-in-the-camp, otherwise I'm going to have to do it
all on me tod!

OK, we're out of Europe, out of the Euros and not in the Euro,
but things are afoot in the Premier League with a plethora
(my God, Jez, that's a word straight out of the Times or
Guardian!) of transfers already with recent highlights being:
*Man City's unveiling of Pep Guardiola in a cringing, sycophantic (now, c'mon, that's just too much!) “let's meet my
public” forum, as if he was a king ascending his throne;
*Jose spending millions already at Man U and rumours
abounding that he's made a
100 million offer for France's Juventus midfielder Pogba.
Amazing, isn't it, that this boy was on United's books only 4
years ago and was let go by Sir Alex, of all people, telling him
that he probably wasn't going to make the big-time.
Hmmmm! Also, what a coup as he signs Swede Ibrahimovich
in an “a-la-Cantona” move, free as well!
*Ryan Giggs leaving United after 29 years, with 963 appearances, 168 goals, 2 Champions Leagues, 13 Premier Leagues,
4 FA Cups, 9 Community Shields, 1 Super Cup and 1 Club
World Cup. What a legend!
*Mario Balotelli returning to Liverpool after his Italian loan
sojourn and promising Herr Klopp that he's a changed man!

*Champions Leicester re-signing Jamie Vardy and signing
Nigerian Musa from CSKA Moscow, as well as looking like
making an offer for Wales' Robson-Kanu (see EuroBureau)

*the FA's search for a new England manager after the bungling, negative Hedgehog's demise. Should he be English,
should he speak English, should he be under 60, should he
understand football, should he know what he's talking about,
should he be a motivator, should he have international experience? All questions which will probably take the FA suits
about 3 months to decide, but if the answers to the above
questions are yes, that would count out The Wally with the
Brolly McLaren (who, incidentally, has just this minute spouted on Sky Sports News that England could well win the Euros
in 2020 or the World Cup in 2022 with this current team, oh
yeah!)) Allardyce, Redknapp, Pardew, Pearce, Bruce, Shearer,
Klinnsman, and therefore really only leaves my choice. It's
just gotta be Glenn Hoddle so sign him pronto. Simples!!!!

Rosberg insisted Hamilton had turned in on him but it is hard
to give his claims credence. The stewards certainly saw it
otherwise and Mercedes, although refusing to apportion
blame, may be equally unforgiving on both drivers. How they
deal with it before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on
Sunday will be of the greatest import long after the dust has
settled in Styria.

Well, knock me down with a feather,
Footie fans, and my sincere apologies
to all you Welsh fans for not giving your
team the credit they undoubtedly deserve. Having said that, I did say in my
last report that if Bale, Ramsey and
Williams were on song they could
spring a surprise, so don't chasten me
too much. It just goes to show what can
be achieved, with teamwork, passion
(heoul I think you guys call it if I remember from my rugby days in South
Wales), a system that the whole team
understands, determination and a manager who is tactically astute and aware,
in fact everything that England didn't
have! I bet even you lot didn't envisage
going this far but this is the year of the
underdog and, to be honest, I can see
Wales beating Portugal in the semi but
we'll know more by the time you read
this report. Anyway, even if your team
doesn't make it to the Final, what an
incredible achievement to reach the
semi, a feat that Gary Speed (bless his
soul), being the instigator of this amazing Welsh team, would have been so
proud of. To beat favourites Belgium so
convincingly, especially having gone 1-0
down early doors, is a testament to the
character in the side and I'm only sorry
that heroes Aaron Ramsey and Ben
Davies will miss the semi due to suspension, but, hey, they'll be back for the
Final! And as for Robson-Kanu's goal,
with that incredible Cruyff turn which
took out the whole Belgian defence, if
that had been Ronaldo, Messi or Bale
himself, we would have been gobsmacked but for a pro-without-a-club
even more memorable!
As for the Portugal semi yesterday, it'll
be interesting to see how Real Madrid
clubmates Ronaldo, Pepe and Bale get
on and, to be fair to my Portuguese
friends (and readers, I understand!)

So, my dark horses are gone, downed by
the Red Dragon, and by now, no doubt,
you will all know that the other semi
tonight (Thursday) will be between
hosts France and as I predicted, Germany (well, I did get two semi-finalists
right!), both co-favourites and both
playing well, the former having respected England's conquerors Iceland, but
nevertheless stuffing them 5-2 with
Arsenal's Giroud nabbing a brace. Credit
though to the Icemen as they actually
won the second-half 2-1 altho' having
been 4-0 up at half-time, the Tricolor
had already taken their respective feet
of the pedals. As for Germany, all Teutonic power but with no real penetration, against a determined Italy, brilliantly orchestrated by Chelsea's new
manager Antonio Conte, amazing game
really, as it didn't take off until the second half when Arsenal's Ozil scored,
only to be pegged back by a ridiculous
Boateng hand-ball, giving the Italians a
