JETS vs. CHIEFS TODAY, 4:15 P.M. ● GIANTS STADIUM ● CH. 2 ● ESPN RADIO (WEPN 1050 AM) BY D AV E H U TC H I N S O N four downs Coach Eric Mangini plans to rotate rookie free agent LG Robert Turner and rookie free agent RT Clint Oldenburg again even though the pair played a huge role in the Jets allowing six sacks last week vs. the Titans. The Jets desperately need help along the offensive line, but you don’t experiment in the regular season. CAN THE JETS CONTAIN JARED ALLEN? 2 Allen, despite being a Pro Bowler and having 131/2 sacks, flies under the radar. But opposing quarterbacks and left tackles know all about the DE. He has a nonstop motor and has an effective speed and power rush. Jets tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson has been solid, if unspectacular, this season. WILL SIONE POUHA HAVE ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE GAME? 3 S TA R- L E D G E R S TA F F the stats the matchup HOW WILL THE OFFENSIVE LINE HOLD UP? 1 ● The nose tackle, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, had eight solo tackles and a batted pass vs. the Titans last week, but he was working against backup C Eugene Amano. Chiefs C Casey Wegmann has started 110 consecutive games and figures to be a formidable foe. Pouha could make a major statement with another solid effort. JETS WHEN THE JETS HAVE THE BALL SPECIAL TEAMS Second-year QB Kellen Clemens, who sat out last week vs. the Titans with a shoulder/rib injury, needs to give the Jets something to get excited about. His 59 passer rating and 52 completion percentage are the second-worst in the NFL, in front of only Trent Dilfer (49ers). He has thrown four TDs and 10 INTs this season. WR Jerricho Cotchery (74 catches, 1,054 yards, two TDs) is having another stellar season, and TE Chris Baker (41-409-3) is underrated. LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson will face Chiefs Pro Bowl DE Jared Allen (131/2 sacks). Last week, the Jets allowed six sacks. RB Thomas Jones has earned every one of his 1,021 yards this season. Jets K Mike Nugent had an extra point blocked last week. Punter Ben Graham, who has a career-low 36.4 net average this season, was benched last week and said the decision was a “jolt.” Rookie free agent Jeremy Kapinos (36.4 net average vs. the Titans last week) replaced him. KR Leon Washington (three TDs) was voted the team MVP. The Chiefs recently signed veteran K John Carney, and P Dustin Colquitt (38.1 net average) is having a solid season. Eddie Drummond (21.0 yards on KOs and 6.9 yards on punts) has been a disappointment. WHEN THE CHIEFS HAVE THE BALL RUSHING INJURY REPORT Second-year QB Brodie Croyle, who injured his throwing hand, is expected to get the start. He has completed 59.1 percent of his passes with five TDs, six INTs and a 70.5 passer rating. Kansas City ranks 29th in total offense (280.7 yards per game) and 30th in scoring (14.4 points per game). RB Larry Johnson (foot) is on injured reserve and has been replaced by Koby Smith (406 yards, two TDs). The Chiefs offensive line never found a way to make up for the retirements of standout LG Will Shields and LT Willie Roaf. Pro Bowl TE Tony Gonzalez (92 catches, 1,108 yards, five TDs) and rookie WR Dwayne Bowe (69-982-5) drive the Chiefs’ offense. Gonzalez’ nine Pro Bowl selections are the most in NFL history for a tight end. JETS: Questionable — TE Chris Baker (back), QB Kellen Clemens (rib), TE James Dearth (foot), DE Shaun Ellis (shoulder), C Nick Mangold (player decision reason), G Brandon Moore (neck), DT Dewayne Robertson (knee), WR Brad Smith (back); Probable — WR Jerricho Cotchery (finger), WR Justin McCareins (thigh). CHIEFS: Out — WR Eddie Kennison (ribs); Questionable — LB Donnie Edwards (hamstring), LB Napoleon Harris (knee); Probable — QB Brodie Croyle (right hand), T Damion McIntosh (ankle). Jets rookie CB Darrelle Revis and Chiefs veteran CB Ty Law are from Aliquippa, Pa., a small town northwest of Pittsburgh. Both are physical cornerbacks who can also cover, a rare combo in the NFL. Law has taken Revis under his wing and has called at times during the season with advice on how to cover the league’s elite receivers.
