July 2, 2016 Serenity Club
Andrew-SD8/5/12" I had it good, & I didn't know
how good I had it! I got arrested in just about every
town I went. Alcohol was always the common denominator. I was in jail & I put in a slip for a Big Book. I was
told to read "river of denial". I looked & looked, & it was
not there. The book was the 3rd edition & it didn't have
that story. Something happened when I was reading
that book. When I got out, I knew where to come. I
would come straight to the Serenity Club after work.
I've been here almost every day. It's a miracle for me
to stand up here & tell you...I have a great job, great
puppy dog, & I have a great girlfriend that's just out of
this world!"
Lyric-SD8/5/14" I got sober 5yrs & went out 3yrs. I
got 7 yrs sober, had back surgery, pain pills, wanted to
die. This last time I got a sponsor, who saved my life!
Ultimately, it was God. I used to do it half-as. Now its 7
mtgs/wk. Now I WANT to help other people. AA
changed my life these past 2 years. I'm finding myself,
the self I never had!"
Cindy H-SD7/10/89" My sponsor told me I needed
to fellowship w/ women cuz they would save my butt
one day. Later, she told me to find a newcomer woman to sponsor & take throught the steps. I got to see lil
mini-mirrors of me & my defects. I've had love, I've had
losses & had my sobriety tested. I love my home
group!"

Sonya-SD12/27/09" I've always had the 'i-sms'. I
went through several best friends cuz of my ability to
hold resentments. If nothing changes, then nothing
changes. When I am disturbed(p.90of12x12)How to
get rid of my resentments(p.552)You're safe here, this
is supposed to be a support group, where people try to
bring you up, rather than bring you down."
Jimmy-SD8/21/90" I was a smart guy, but when I
drank-I knew everything. Somehow that ego has to go.
Humility is difficult to come by. I had to find a HP or I
was to drink again. The result is a really happy life."
Sarah-SD3/1/11" I worked doing assessments. I
came to AA through a treatment program. I figured out

The Corrections Committee has an annual budget
of $300. That doesn't even buy 1-1/2 cases of Big
Books!
We depend on contributions of AA approved literature to be able to
supply books, pamphlets, Grapevines, etc. to the 16 meetings we take
into various correctional facilities each WEEK.
One gal, in jail for her 2nd DUI, picked up a Grapevine, related to one of
the stories and decided to go to a meeting when she got out of
jail. Today, she has 7 yrs. of sobriety.
So you never know how meaningful that donation you make to
Corrections can change the life of just one person. I encourage all to
put a box in their groups marked "Literature Contributions to
Corrections”, or announce at your groups the dire need for literature
we have, or simply dust off some of those old Grapevines sitting
around your house that you no longer need.
We greatly appreciate all past contributions and hope groups will
continue their generosity to help those incarcerated. You may meet
one at a meeting someday! - Kathi F. Corrections
The Special Needs Committee would like to reach out to
all those who are deaf/hard of hearing in AA that are in
need of (American Sign Language) ASL interpreters for
meetings. We are trying to isolate where these
interpreters are needed, based on location in Pinellas
county. Special needs will be working with local ASL
interpreters in order to provide help to those who are in
need. If you or someone you know
needs an ASL interpreter at a meeting,
email us:

Group Name: Ozona Group 00010-36-47
Location: Storefront 412 Orange Street, Ozona, 34683
Meeting Times and Dates: Multiple through the day, everyday
“The Ozona Group has a long and interesting history in Pinellas County. This meeting
location offers multiple meetings throughout the day and is well attended with a unique mix of AA members.
But, it wasn’t always like that. The first official meeting was held on January 8th, 1962 with only 4 members.
These four dedicated recovering alcoholics wanted and needed each other to stay sober in this small town where
drinking was very popular. No one believed they would make this work out as all the AA members were
relatively new and the location was attached to a bar. How were these men supposed to stay sober right next to a
room full of drinkers? They did. The group grew in numbers so it needed to move, and, probably get away from
the bar.
First, the group moved to a little cottage hidden in the woods. The members loved this privacy and serene setting
but the building was too small and expensive. The group had changed by now to an older crowd with lots of
sobriety. Therefore, they made a change again. They selected a building storefront shared with other businesses.
The story is told that the location used to be a World War II military barracks. They understand a US Army
Air Corp Installation in southern Pinellas County needed a more northern barracks. I bet those old military
men would be happy to know today this room is responsible for getting and keeping so many AA members clean
and sober. This devoted and strict AA Group gathered for so many years has saved countless lives.” Written as
told by Dave.
A statement about District 1 Archives Committee: Archives service is more than a custodial activity. It is a means by which we collect, preserve and share the rich and meaningful heritage of our fellowship. With love and service from Leslie B., the ar-
chives liaison to the Plain and Straight.

“Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and
became willing to make amends to them all.”
We have a list of all persons we have harmed and to whom we are willing to
make amends. We made it when we took inventory. We subjected ourselves to a
drastic self- appraisal. Now we go out to our fellows and repair the damage done
in the past. We attempt to sweep away the debris which has accumulated out of our effort to live
on self-will and run the show ourselves. If we haven't the will to do this, we ask until it comes.
Remember it was agreed at the beginning we would go to any lengths for victory over alcohol.
