About Great Life Music
MUSIC in the 21st Century has permeated every facet of our lives – it’s ubiquitous. Our favorite songs

Music honor and celebrate this new relationship by delivering unparalleled live performances and
music production services designed to fit the unique spirit of your special event or artistic project.
Simply put, we’re an entertainment company that celebrates life through music.
At Great Life Music, it’s about going beyond the ordinary
and the expected. We’re a Chicago-based company that
takes a multi-layered approach to music production. We not
only serve up the Live Music that brings parties and special
gatherings to life, but as a full-service Sound Lab we create
recorded music for various media platforms and produce
original music and video for a wide range of artistic and
commercial projects. Finally, in an effort to bring musicians
and audiences together we are creating a Sound Life. In
fact, it’s through our strong community of musicians that
we are able to offer creative musical choices, develop oneof-a-kind shows that live up to the highest standards, and
use cutting-edge technology to enhance the quality and
excitement of our productions.
Great Life Music was formed in 2007 by bandleader Colby
Beserra and music director Brian Schwab to bring new
levels of sophistication, professionalism, theatrical energy,
and musical excellence to the special event industry. A 21st
century company that’s fueled by the artistic leadership
and creativity of its directors and the talent and enthusiasm
of its musicians, GLM has worked to provide clients with
more performance options than has ever been available
from one company.

GLM Live Music
LIVE MUSIC is our first passion, and the foundation on which our company is built. Our commitment
to working with only the best instrumentalists and vocalists in the city of Chicago has translated into
a reputation for designing and producing great live performances to energize a variety of events,
occasions, venues, and formats.
Our roster of musical ensembles speaks volumes about
our priorities, and illustrates our desire to offer the most
unique and inspiring performances available anywhere.
Our flagship dance bands -- The Party Faithful (10- to
12-pieces), Matt Lewis and The Union (9- to 11-pieces)
and the Matt Reed Band (6- to 8-piece) -- are top-of-theline, luxury ensembles, providing our clients with the best
musicians and the widest variety of music our industry has
to offer. Our cutting edge smaller ensembles -- our band-DJ
hybrid Elemental, Jennifer Lowe’s rock violin ensembles
the CoverGirls and Acoustic Roadtrip, and our popular
Unplugged band -- present exciting and contemporary
performances in more compact packages, perfect for small
corporate gathering and larger social events alike. Taken
all together, you won’t find a more diverse and distinctive
line up of offerings from any other music company in our
industry.
All of our musicians and bands benefit from access to the
Great Life Music Songbook, an extensive library of hip and
up-to-date musical arrangements created and maintained
by GLM co-owner Brian Schwab using the latest in music
and computer technology. Our songbook celebrates
genres, artists, and styles across the musical spectrum—
the great Sinatra-style jazz of the ‘40s and ‘50s, the soulful
dance grooves of the ‘60s and ‘70s, the high-energy rock
of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and the slick and edgy beats of today.
In nurturing this enviable and ever-expanding library of
music, Colby and Brian combine their musical expertise
with the most current advances in music production
technology to ensure that our performances strike a
moving and memorable chord with your audience.

Drawing on the same musical talent that has guided the success of The Party Faithful,
Unplugged is a 4- to 7-piece band perfectly suited for smaller parties and modest budgets.
Featuring one or two vocalists and a customized rhythm section, it combines the style and
flexibility of being a perfect background ensemble or a high-energy dance band. Playing a
wide range of contemporary jazz, pop, and soft rock tunes from the ‘60s through the ‘90s,
Unplugged sets the right mood for any type of event.

GREAT LIFE MUSIC
Colby Beserra
For more than a decade, Colby Beserra’s broad experience
in both music and theater has ranged from performance,
production, and composition to direction and education.
He recently sang backup vocals for country singer Faith Hill
for a Soundstage performance which aired December 2008
on PBS. As a composer, he wrote the lyrics for “Lovely,” a
song he lent vocals to on a version that was featured in the
movie The Guardian (starring Kevin Costner and Ashton
Kutcher). With engineer Brian Schwab, Colby is the creator
of and Music Director for WBEZ radio’s “Under Cover” series,
a co-production between Great Life Music and Chicago
Public Radio. Since 2001, he has served as Music Director
for the Albany Park Theater Project (APTP), a nationally
renowned, community-based youth theater company
that creates original theater based on true stories from
Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood. Colby served as the
Music Director for the world premiere of Katrina: The Girl
Who Wanted Her Name Back at Adventure Stage Chicago
in the spring of 2009.

A graduate of Northwestern University’s theater school,
Colby was the first Director of the Vittum Theater (now
known as Adventure Stage Chicago). In his more than
five years at the Vittum, Colby helped lay a foundation of
high-quality theater and arts programming catering to the
students and teachers of Chicago’s schools. In 2007, the
company was named “Outstanding New Children’s Theatre
Company” by The American Alliance for Theatre and
Education. In other theater work, Colby wrote, produced,
and performed the score for The Jenkins Farm Project,
a dance installation created by his wife Annie Beserra.
He was the Music Director, one of three composers,
and played the part of Oberon in Striding Lion InterArts
Workshop’s adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
(called Ill Met By Moonlight) in 2004. He also served as
Co-Music Director, actor, and singer in the Frank Zappainspired piece Billy The Mountain and Other Wartime
Stories in Chicago and at the New York International Fringe
Festival. A two-time grant recipient from the American
Composers Forum, Colby has produced and performed
original music on projects for many talented artists.
Through Great Life Music, he has contributed original
music to Senator Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential
campaign website. Selections from Colby’s self-titled
album and Jukebox Saloon, a collaboration with pianist
