MATCH DAY PROGRAM Round 2 Saturday 9th April 2016 Mornington VS Manningham United 09/04/2016 (Intentionally blank inside cover) Presidents Welcome Today we welcome Manningham United, 1 of only 3 teams to knock us off last year with one of our new boys Chris Reid leading the way for them on that day. Our title defence could not have got off to a better start with the 5-1 result last week surprising many across the club and the league. Clifton Hill have always been a difficult opposition but the way the boys performed last week suggest that we could be in for another exciting season at Seagull stadium. I would like to wish both senior and reserves team the best of luck today as we look to pick up another 3 Points at home to start thje season. I would also like to wish all our Junior boys and girls teams the best of luck for the weekend as the start there respective seasons. We hope they all have fun and enjoy playing the game we all love. Regards, Matt Cameron President MSC Reserve Team 2016 Reserve Coach - Anthony Christodoulou Charlie Jones Jack Wyer Matthew Irvine Hasan Chehimi Macauly Soares Dylan Soares William Anderson Raymond Lay Marko Vrban Cooper Banks-Fay Manikus De-Almeida Mabu De-Almeida Charlie Parker Matthew Esquivel Anthony Judkins Ben Simmons Emre Cetinkaya Ivan Aristazabal Alan Lipsett Phil Grieg Reserve Team Review Wow! I've never seen a referee influence a game more for 1 team.. Now that's off my chest let's talk about the game.. The season opener and there was some nervous tension in the change rooms, there was a lot of new faces about to play their first game for MSC. We started well and dominated the first half creating plenty of chances & we finally got our goal through good work from Will & Manikus resulting in Michael Freeman scoring to go in 1-0 at the break. The rooms where a buzz at half time and the biys where confident we could continue with the first half pressure,10 minutes into the 2nd however the referee gave a penalty for what…. no one knows, Cooper saved the penalty brilliantly and then amazingly, the referee forced a re-take for Cooper moving before the kick, very harsh decision as it appeared that cooper moved sideways which is well and truly in the rules. 5 mins later and they scored again with a well taken chip over cooper from 20 yards & the boys were rattled down 1-2. I made a few tactical changes & we got back into the game with great work on the wing by Matty & Tommy leading to the equalizer by Jack.. We pushed them back & missed 2 big chances when controversially, the referee didn't blow for a clear foul on Charlie, allowing their striker in on goal to score for 2-3. In the aftermath of the goal, Hasan (our captain) was sent off for a 2nd yellow for questioning the referee. I made a couple more changes & a formation re-shuffle and Alan, Mabu & Tommy all created a great build up play that lead to Will scoring the equalizer for 3-3 with 5 minutes to go.. Another half chance at the death & we almost got the 3 points our domination & attacking football deserved. In the end, we didn't lose, we showed heart, character & determination to never give up and earnt a point, when the referee did everything he could to take the game away from us - well done boys & we look forward to next week!! C'mon you Seagulls! Anthony Christodoulou Mornington SC Seniors 2016 Senior Coach Adam Jamieson Assistant Coach Dale White Team Manager Tony McKay Martin Ashton Goal Keeper Coach Peter Blasby Physio Sophie Griffiths Goal keepers Kris Mcevoy (Pines) Dylan Tervitt (Nunawading) Defenders Nathan Yole Danny Black Steve Elliott Simon Webster Chris Mckenna Tom Hawkins Andy Skledar Charlie Jones Midfielders Scott Webster Craig Smart Paul Mcevoy (Pines) Chris Reid (Manningham) Sam Stewart (Ireland) Strikers Wayne Gordon Shane Tagliaferro Nick Waite Jack Heseltine Michael freeman (New Zealand) Mohsen Chehimi (Endeavour ) State League 1 Ladder Senior Team Review With Great Anticipation the start of the season was finally here, with a Fantastic Crowd at Dallas Brookes Park and a beautiful autumn afternoon both sides took to the playing surface in what was anticipated rematch of last season’s champions Mornington versus Clifton Hill who Finished second in State League South East 1, both sides were brimming with New Signings in their starting line ups. It was a fantastic start by Mornington and in the first 10 minutes of the game we created two half chances that fell to Craig Smart but unfortunately was unable to convert the chances in to goals, then on 12 minutes a great run down the right wing by Nathan Yole and an intelligent ball inside to Chris Read who then delivered the perfect ball to Shane Tagliaferro to volley home from 12 yards out to give Mornington a deserved 1 – 0 lead on 15 minutes. With our defence resilient as per the norm and all of last season and our midfield creating further chances and which fell to Danny Black, Sammy Stewart, and Wayne Buzzer Gordon, then on the stroke of half time and great desire from New International signing Sammy Stewart to drive forward and link up play to be proud of in any standard of football the ball was laid into the path of Wayne Buzzer Gordon by Shane Tagliaferro and with the outside of his right boot guided the ball at pace in to the bottom right hand corner away from the Goal Keepers despairing dive and a deserved 2- 0 nil lead to take into the Half Time break. The 2nd half would start in a different way with Clifton Hill altering their formation to combat Mornington’s superior domination in Mid Field and they were starting to create half chances themselves, But on the stroke of 15 minutes into the 2nd half Sammy Stewart broke up play in the Clifton Hill half and fed the ball inside to Craig Smart who waited his time before delivering an inch perfect pass for Chris Read to run onto and open up his account for Mornington on his debut and extend Mornington into a 3-0 lead with 30 minutes to go in the game. The Game went from end to end with half chances going to either side, then Adam Jamieson decided to make his first substitutions of the afternoon and replaced Danny Black with Chris Mckenna and also Paul Mcevoy for Chris Read. Clifton Hill had very Little left in the tank and with about 15 minutes to go Adam decided to make his third change of the afternoon in replacing Wayne Buzzer Gordon with Big Mohsen Chehimi making his debut at Mornington having moved down from Endeavour with reserve coach Anthony Christodoulou and as forged his way into the First Team squad with some very strong performances in pre season games, and virtually with his first touch made it 4-0 with a close range header, a few moments later Clifton Hill broke away down the left hand side and Mornington gave a free kick away about 30 yards away outside of the box near the clubhouse side of the ground, the ball was pump into the Mornington box but unfortunately Goal Keeper Kris Mcevoy who’s handling had been superb all afternoon spilled the ball and it was stabbed away for a consolation goal to Clifton Hll 4-1 score line. With the referee starting to check his watch and again some great desire and willingness to chase and harry down defenders from Sammy Stewart and Big Mo Chehimi, Sammy laid the ball in to Shane Tagliaferro to score his 2nd goal of the afternoon and a 5-1 win to Mornington on the Final Referees whistle of the afternoon. A Fantastic Result to start the new season and congratulations to all the Goal Scorers and our New Debuting Players. Our Mornington Racing Club Man of the Match Award went to Sammy Stewart who was outstanding on his Debut, Congratulations Sammy.
