Match Day Program 21.5.16
MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 21st May 2016 Mornington VS Berwick City 21/05/2016 Presidents Welcome Welcome all to Round 8 of FFV state league season 2016. The season has started extremely well on all fronts, our junior teams are playing extremely well, the reserve boys seem to be showing some real improvement and our Seniors are 7-0 after a wonderful run of form. MSC is really going from strength to strength with some exciting things happening to the facility already this year with the lighting up grade, we are also about to commence the works on the new drainage system and upgrade of pitch 5 with the council. We are also excited to announce that the watt rd. side of the park will by years end be fully fenced with talks currently being held with the council to make the fence 2.1mt high with lockable gates for match days. For the first time in my 20 odd years at the club I finally feel as though football is on the minds of the council and we are really starting to get somewhere. Our support of Mount Martha Junior soccer team by allowing them to train 1 night a week at the venue has helped a few of our issues get rectified a lot quicker, I am pleased that the generosity of all our members in allowing this to happen is benefitting them for the support and loyalty to our club. We welcome 2 new signings to the club today in Brad and Sean, both have wonderful talent and will help to strengthen an already very strong senior squad. I wish both teams the best of luck today and hope we can, maintain our unbeaten run and make it 8 from 8. Regards, Matt Cameron President MSC Reserve Team 2016 Reserve Coach - Anthony Christodoulou Charlie Jones Jack Wyer Matthew Irvine Hasan Chehimi Macauly Soares Dylan Soares William Anderson Raymond Lay Marko Vrban Cooper Banks-Fay Manikus De-Almeida Mabu De-Almeida Charlie Parker Matthew Esquivel Anthony Judkins Ben Simmons Emre Cetinkaya Ivan Aristazabal Alan Lipsett Phil Grieg Reserve Team Review Saturday 7 May Get in! Another 3 points in the bag lads!! Today we managed to have a complete 90 minute performance for the first time this season and I am extremely proud, not just because we played our brand of attractive, attacking football, but we combined that with our team defending, defensive shape, tackling & composure on the ball when passing out of defense & through the midfield. We are starting to see the benefit of our hard work in training over the last couple weeks and have showed great character/resolve in response to a tough opening 4 weeks. Although the score line of 1-0 suggests a closer match than what it was, we opened them up & got in behind their defence time & time again. We should have won by 5 or 6, but in the end we only needed the one goal. We dominated the attacking play in the 1st half, yet the final product was lacking & couldn’t make the breakthrough. At half-time the message was to remain confident, positive & energised and 10 minutes into the 2nd half we got the ‘own’ goal our attacking play deserved, some great work by Marko Vrban on the right wing and great forward/midfield pressure by Skleds led to one of their defenders scoring the OG. After the goal, we were relentless, we didn’t settle, we continued to dictate the play, defended well when needed to, and remained composed on the ball & created enough chances to win 4 games. The only threat they posed were from set pieces and we defended them all (corners, free kicks & throw-ins) with great concentration, maturity and intensity. Our midfield was led brilliantly by Tommy Hawkins all day, our defence was rock solid with Charlie Parker impressive again, alongside the man mountain Seb. I appreciate the efforts of Jack H & Skleds, who are building their match fitness to help our seniors win the league and after a performance as comprehensive as that, it would be unfair not to mention everyone else - Cooper, Matt E, Charlie J, Alan, Ray, Simmo, Jack W, Marko V, Macauly, Marko M, Matt I (and the boys who weren’t in the squad due to injury, suspensions etc.) Will, Manikus, Hasan, Anthony, Patrick & Charlie O - we haven’t even scratched the surface of the potential in this squad, lets continue to work hard in training and we will continue to get the rewards, with Warragul away next week as we go for 3 wins in a row!!! Come on you Seagulls!!!! Anthony Christodoulou (Reserves Coach) Reserve Team Review Warragul 21 May We travelled to Warragul full of confidence, having won our last 2 games and put them on the back foot from the start. Unfortunately, our final pass in the attacking third was lacking as we got in behind their defence 4 or 5 times in the opening 15 minutes, but couldn’t capitalise. We went down 1-0 in the 20th minute, after some slack defending and a speculative cross from the touchline, the ball managed to find a man at the back post, unmarked inside the 6 yard box. Just 5 minutes later, we went down 2-0, another defensive error where we gave the ball away in our own half and a 30 yard strike hit the top corner. We showed good character, continued attacking & creating chances and just before half-time, we got the goal our attacking play deserved, to make it 2-1 at the break. 2 injuries at half time & another early in the 2nd half forced us into some changes, but we continued to attack and get in behind their defence almost at will. We created 4 really good chances and were unlucky not to equalise, hitting the post & having a shot cleared off the line as we looked dangerous every time we attacked. Then out of nowhere, they hit a long ball over the top and we shot ourselves in the foot with another defensive error gifting them the goal to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining. We continued to attack, never gave up & scored with 6 minutes left to make it 3-2. We couldn’t find the equaliser and suffered a 32 loss. Although the result went against us, our performance was very good as we dictated the tempo of the game, created enough chances to win 3 games but let ourselves down with 3 defensive mistakes, which they scored all 3 goals from. As long as we continue to work hard & stay positive, we will get the rewards for our efforts and we look forward to today week against Berwick City. The First Half - The Wind was howling straight down the pitch and watching the ball bounce in the Reserve’s game the need for a Quality First Touch and making sure that we did everything simple so not to concede a goal in the first half was a must as Simon Webster lost the toss of the coin and we were into the wind. The game kicked off and straight away you could see that the conditions were going to play a major part in the game and Warragul had looked at a game plan to try and get the ball behind our defence and get them turned and defend facing our own goal, which was the case for most of the opening minutes. But the back five and our midfield from the outset were outstanding, the front line of Buzzer, Tags and Nick Waite were also outstanding in defending from the front and we could see that if we went in 00 at half time it would be a major factor in the game going Mornington’s way as we are capable of playing great football in keeping the ball on the floor and not lofting into the wind as Warragul were continuing to do so without much success. Then on 30 minutes a half chance fell to the number 10 Nathan Lugton which seemed that Kris Mcavoy lost in Flight and the Low Sun light and we were lucky that it hit the cross bar and was cleared from danger, the last 15 minutes of the Half again we defended as a team fantastically and went in at Half Time with the Score at 0-0 and was one of the best half’s that Mornington have played this season in not conditions conducive to great Football. Senior Team Review Clu The Second half The Second half starts and the wind has eased of a bit which leads to this helping Mornington play the Football the Adam loves them to play quick passing triangle football and the will to out play sides of the park in style. The game was again being played in and around the middle of the park and the work rate from our three midfielders in Smarty, Sammy and Reidy was outstanding and all over the park Mornington were starting to really dominate the game and on the 25 minute mark from a corner the ball fell to Steve Elliott who guided the ball into the bottom corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead to Mornington. With Guys starting to feel their legs Adam made two quick substitutions in relacing Nick Waite with Paul Mcavoy and Chris Reid with Andy Skelater moving Scotty Webster from right full back in to the centre of the park and Shane Tags up front in to the top three. The ball broke out of defence to Danny Black at left full back and he laid the ball onto Buzzer with the shout from Danny to take the Man On Wee Man Buzzer drove at the defender and then with pure class guided the ball into the far side of the goal with the Keeper stranded, Fantastic Finish from Buzzer who is high on confidence in front of goal at the moment and leading scorer in the league and club with 7 goals. Mornington deserved to be 2-0 up as for all their hard work in the first half and the way the moved the ball around in the second half it wasn’t long before it was 3-0 was a great left foot strike from Paul Mcavoy who cut in from the right wing and let fly with a stunning left foot drive that would of graced any football stadium around the world to make it 3-0 to Mornington and a well dissevered Victory for Mornington on the Road and another three points to take Mornington to the top out right and 7 from 7 and on to today’s game against Berwick City. - Martyn Ashton E News & Events Trivia Night Saturday 27th August Peninsula Community Theatre , 91 Wilson Road Mornington Details to follow MSC will be holding several major events in 2016 so please see those upcoming below and stay in touch with us via our website www.morningtonsc.com.au or www.facebook.com/morningtonsoccerclub Player Profile Name – Michael Freeman Nickname – Cathy Freeman Age-25 Country of Birth – New Zealand Favourite Position- Left wing Previous Clubs Frenchville SC, Auckland City, Central United Favourite Food – Chinese Favourite Song – Madonna – Vogue Favourite Movie – The Notebook Favourite sport other than Football – Cricket Greatest Achievement as a Footballer – Central Queensland Premier League Title 2015 3 people you would invite to Dinner – Lionel Messi, Maria Balotelli.
