ICTS JOINS VETS - VETERANS EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION SUPPORT ICTS UK has signed up to Veterans Employment Transition Support (VETS), offering mentoring services to veterans, i.e. anyone who has served in the UK armed forces (including reserves). “We first started our involvement with the military community in 2013 through the ICTS START Programme and have seen what a positive impact it has had on our business. Ex-military personnel have the potential to transfer desirable skill sets from military to civilian life. My colleagues and I at ICTS look forward to starting our mentoring scheme, which will see us offering advice and support on a whole range of topics on a 1:1 basis” said Ashley Bancroft, Managing Director, ICTS UK & Ireland. Resulting from our involvement with ex-Servicemen and women through the ICTS Military START Programme, VETS and the recent signing of the Corporate Covenant scheme, ICTS was invited to take part in the MOD’s Defence Engagement Event in London on 9 June 2016 on board HMS Bulwark. 2016 STAFF SURVEY Keep your eyes peeled for information about how to take part in this year’s Staff Survey due to run in November 2016. As with previous years, it will be an online questionnaire issued Company-wide. This year’s survey will be the fourth run by ICTS. We are all encouraged to take part and have our say in the way in which the Company operates. The survey results shape ICTS’ strategy going forward. I spent 21 years working in payroll at a media company before being made redundant. I was then given a 2 week assignment with Hackney Council’s payroll and 3 years later still found myself there temping, so I decided to move on and here I am at ICTS....... It's very different to what I am used to, but I am getting there and my colleagues are great. CUSTOMER SERVICE UK NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK IN OCTOBER 2016 National Customer Service Week (NCSW) takes place during the first full week in October and this year the dates are 3 - 7 October 2016. It is a weeklong opportunity to raise awareness of customer service and the vital role it plays in successful business practice. What is your site doing to mark NCSW? Page 5 Photo: Tavistock House - London, ICTS HQ SERVICE MANAGEMENT COURSE FOR ICTS TEAM AT BRISTOL AIRPORT As part of the re-development plan linked with the opening of the new West Terminal at Bristol Airport, the ICTS team at the airport have taken part in a Service Management course. The course is designed to help the staff on their journey as customer service professionals in a Leader or Manager role. As part of the 'Workplace Service Improvement Plan' module, ICTS Cone Performance Leader, Katrina Newcombe, proposed a child-friendly initiative to improve the service ICTS delivers to families with young children, who find the security process very daunting. “Katrina proposed providing stickers to children to improve the process! I'm pleased to announce that the Client has approved this initiative and has purchased 10,000 stickers! Well done Katrina.....a great idea!” said Sarah Pritchard, ICTS Station Manager at Bristol Airport. I started as a Security Agent on the Continental Airlines contract (July 1991) at London Gatwick Airport and then worked with other airline contracts x-raying hold baggage. In 1992 ICTS was awarded a contract in a passenger profile area to screen passengers’ hold baggage and search baggage also. This was the step before 100% Hold Baggage Screening came into place. In 1996 ICTS was awarded the Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) contract at Gatwick and this became fully operational by 1998, the first in the world at the time, and as the pioneers we had lots of visits from airport managers from around the world. 100% Hold Baggage Screening around the world had to be in place by year 2000. Security - “I believe CONGRATS are in order for a long service day – I’m assured you have completed 25yrs of undetected crime as a member of the ICTS LGW Team. A fantastic achievement. Since 1999 I have been a Trainer, Supervisor, a certified Level 5 Instructor from 2004, and London Gatwick’s Station Trainer since 2012. As an ICTS Trainer/Instructor I have travelled to different parts of the world training on new HBS and Checkpoint operations e.g. Albania, Thailand and South Africa and conducted HBS training and DFT level 1 GSC courses in different parts of the UK and Ireland. I have also done image capturing for the ICTS Eagle CBT Programme. When I left school I went into farming and was farming until 1991. My interests outside of work are travelling, photography, cooking and gardening. Over the years I’ve worked mainly in Baggage Hall / Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) and seen many interesting items, any HBS operator will know what I’m talking about…. I remember in the first month we opened the HBS system in Dublin Airport a replica rocket launcher went through the system. To say my heart was in my mouth is an understatement! In my time in HBS I went through the ranks, from Team Leader to Supervisor and enjoyed my time there. Now I am a Duty Manager at Dublin Airport, where I am managing a team of approximately 130 employees, and with around 19 flights a day, TSA Checkpoint and not forgetting the HBS! The last 15 years have flown past and I’ve enjoyed them - all good times and bad! I think the main reason why I like working here is, not one day is the same. Her customer care skills are second to none and while she is on maternity leave we would like to thank her for her commitment and dedication over the last 15 years.” Bahadur Dhillon (London Heathrow Airport) “I have been working with ICTS since June 2001 and have enjoyed serving with ICTS. I have always worked on the American Airlines contract, I get along with all staff; they are like a family to me. The Controllers and Management have also assisted me when I have required help and guidance. I hope to be working in ICTS for a long time.” Prakash Nayee (Gatwick Airport) “I was brought up in Zambia and moved to the UK in 1990. I joined ICTS at London Gatwick Airport in 2001 and have now been employed for 15 years. I have been predominately working in the Hold Baggage Screening Department, but have also spent some time on Aviation duties as well. BUSINESS NEWS ARSENAL CHOOSES ICTS CANINE SECURITY SERVICES FOR THE PROVISION OF SEARCH DOGS A new contract with Arsenal Football Club started for Jed Marshall (Head of Canine) and his team on Sunday 14 August 2016. The team of ICTS handlers and their dogs will be responsible for screening the Arsenal Football Club grounds and football spectators on game days. “This is a tremendous new contract for ICTS, working with a client with whom we are very proud to be associated. We will be handing out our ICTS dog I.D cards to the children coming to football matches – it gives them the opportunity to find out a little more about the dogs and hopefully they will enjoy them” said Jed Marshall, Head of Canine Security Services, ICTS UK. HAINAN AIRLINES SELECTS ICTS AT MANCHESTER AIRPORT On 10 June 2016 Hainan Airlines, of the People’s Republic of China, launched its first non-stop flight from Manchester to Beijing and chose ICTS UK as its security partner. ICTS is responsible for the provision of access control and aircraft search duties for the airline that will fly four times a week throughout the year. Levent Ural, Head of Client Relations, ICTS UK says, “We welcome Hainan to Manchester and look forward to supporting their business here in the UK in the years to come. This is a significant new route, which will aid business between China and the North of England.” NEW AVIATION SECURITY SERVICES CONTRACT FOR ICTS WITH AEROFLOT AT LONDON HEATHROW Photo: Adnaan Ashraf (ICTS Senior Controller). “During the Farnborough International Air Show, Aeroflot was named ‘Best Airline’ in Eastern Europe for the fifth time at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. ICTS is delighted to be serving Aeroflot for the first time and we wish them much continued success” said Manuel Pombo, ICTS Service Delivery Manager London Heathrow Airport, ICTS UK & Ireland. From 4 July 2016, ICTS UK is responsible for the provision of security services to Russian airline, Aeroflot. Aeroflot provides 21 weekly flights from London Heathrow Airport. AIR CANADA ROUGE RESUMES ITS SUMMER SCHEDULE AT LONDON GATWICK AIRPORT Air Canada Rouge has relaunched its summer seasonal flights from Gatwick and ICTS is responsible for securing their 6 weekly services. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AWARD JUNE 2016: JAMES DOWLING Congratulations to James Dowling, based at Dublin Airport, for being selected Employee of the Month of June. The ICTS management team at Dublin say, “On 24 May 2016, whilst in charge of the morning Aer Lingus flight to Boston, a passenger slipped and fell while travelling up the escalator. James immediately made a dash to the emergency stop button preventing further injury to the passenger. He alerted the airline boarding staff and located a first aid-trained Passenger Service Agent within the area to attend to the passenger. After receiving medical attention the passenger was rebooked on the later flight. The passenger may have suffered further injury whilst on the escalator, had it not been for James’ quick reactions. James has over 5 years’ experience with ICTS and last October completed his Supervisor course in Dublin. James is also qualified to run our US PreClearance checkpoint operation and Ethiopian Airlines transit screening checkpoint. James is always willing to accommodate the Company's operational requirements and assists us wherever possible. David Hutchings (Global Site Manager) at Travelport - “I would like to put Gulbahar Healy, Muhammad Akhtar and Miles Towlson up for an achievement award for their consistent effort and praise from the client. Muhammad and Gulbahar have personally received thanks for their work from the Vice President of Security CRE and Facilities, and Miles has continued to provide me valued support which he is able to do through being trained to administrator level on the systems. He regularly assists with providing data for the security reports submitted to the client and any more challenging tasks I have tend to fall in his direction and I think it’s about time he was rewarded for this. CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY THE GREAT SUSSEX BATH RACE Brian Parker, ICTS HBS Account Manager at London Gatwick Airport writes, “On Sunday, 12 June I took a team of very keen and enthusiastic staff from ICTS London Gatwick to take part in the charity event, The Great Sussex Bath Race, at a private lake near Chichester, Sussex. Our task was to raise funds for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and Sussex Life Centre, which are charities supporting respite care for sick children and survivors of rape and sexual abuse. My team for the day included: Oliver Hughes, Jacob Jasper, Kerry Sinclair and Bruno De Jesus Freire. Cheering from the side of the lake was myself, Neil Hodgson, Stuart Geer and their families from London Gatwick. There were a total of 15 teams taking part in the event, including estate agents and scouts. As we arrived the weather was not on our side, there was a heavy downpour when we were given a briefing with regards to health and safety, the equipment we would be using and what to do if we fell into the lake (which was deep!). We had just under an hour to assemble our rafts using ropes, barrels and wooden poles as well as balancing a very heavy old fashioned bath tub in the middle of the raft. All of this had to be done without the raft or us sinking! Having constructed the raft with the materials supplied, the team was already wet without even getting in the water. The moment of truth arrived, the team carried the raft to the water’s edge placed it in the water.....and it floated. Oliver Hughes said, “Our first race against the various other teams proved tough, not only because of the weather but also due to the amount of energy needed to steer the raft with just the oars whilst trying to navigate around all the buoys and checkpoints required to finish the race. We competed in several races; despite our determined efforts we didn`t make it through to the Grand Final. However we qualified for the Demolition Derby and finished second. An exhausting day, with great teamwork and a lot of fun. Can`t wait until the next one!” Brian Parker (ICTS HBS Account Manager, Gatwick) said, “ICTS was the first team to raise £1,000 – for which the team received a bottle of champagnemany thanks to all those who gave so generously. BELFAST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT’S MAY BALL Robert Galbraith (ICTS Operations Co-ordinator at Belfast International Airport) wrote, “On Friday 13 May 2016, Belfast International Airport held a ball at Tullglass Hotel which all departments from the airport attended. There were hors d'oeuvres and a cocktail reception on arrival and a professional photographer taking pictures as we arrived. A band was playing during the meal and there were loads of raffle prizes to be won, a photo booth, more entertainment and a disco at the end. ICTS Ireland are sponsoring Golden Kilfeacle GAA in the all-Ireland Gaelic football championship to take place in Dublin on 17 September 2016. The club will be representing Tipperary at the event. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HBS (HOLD BAGGAGE SCREENING) TEAM AT EDINBURGH AIRPORT WHO RAISED FUNDS FOR ST.JOHN’S HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERING IN THE COMMUNITY AND SUPPORTING CHARTIES FOR CHILDREN On Saturday 4 June 2016 a team from the Amazon sites in Newhaven and Croydon spent the day volunteering at the Crawley Rugby Football Club’s Inaugural Charity Rugby Festival and Family Fun Day. They were responsible for marshalling the event. Around 2,000 people attended the England vs The Rest of the World’ charity rugby match played by a host of ex-internationals, which raised over £30,000 for charity! The funds are to be distributed via The Oliver’s Wish Foundation to The Lullaby Trust, Sparks and Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice in Sussex. AVIATION BRISTOL AIRPORT INAUGURATES THE OPENING OF ITS WEST TERMINAL On 18 July 2016 Bristol Airport welcomed the first passengers to its new state-of-the-art West Terminal, part of a £24 million development project which sees an expanded security search and arrivals area. ICTS provides security services to the Airport and has been greatly involved in the design and planning of the terminal, working on steering groups and committees. These have focussed on defining the optimal balance of 21st century technology and human resources which will further revolutionise the customer experience at Bristol Airport. New ICTS Uniforms were introduced for the grand opening of the West Terminal. “Bristol Airport is in a state of rapid growth and change and we are delighted to support the Airport with this significant expansion programme and look forward to welcoming passengers this summer in the stylish and highly functional new terminal. The ICTS security teams work at the very heart of the Airport and after months of designing and planning, it is exciting and rewarding to see the Terminal used by passengers. I would like to thank my team who have done a fantastic job with adapting to the area and are really going above and beyond in their dedication” said Sarah Pritchard, ICTS Station Manager at Bristol Airport. ICTS’ partnership with Bristol Airport began in 2007, providing ad-hoc staff to assist in Central Search operations. In 2009, ICTS was contracted to provide all security and customer service roles and at the start of 2016 was re-awarded the contract for the provision of security services for a further 3 years. Shehab El-Miniawi (known as El) is a serving soldier in the 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment and has been in service for 8 and a half years and is currently in transition out of the forces, due to leave end of 2016. El was introduced to the ICTS Start Programme through the military network which led to him having a productive one-to-one meeting with Scott Paterson. During the meeting it was discussed what El’s priorities were, where he wanted to settle down post military, career aspirations, etc, etc. A few options were offered and it was decided to pursue a placement at one of ICTS contracted sites, St. Helier Hospital, where El would learn the tricks of the trade shadowing The Contract Manager Jon Cermak, and Paul Phillips the security operations manager. “I came into this placement in July and am really overwhelmed with similarities of high standards that ICTS has with Army. It comes as no surprise considering Jon was an ex-Marine and Paul was an ex-RMP officer. I was introduced to the placement through Scott Paterson. The placement involves learning all there is to know about security operational management and to develop the skill required to ascertain such a career choice” says El. Paul Phillips has been mentoring El through his transition and says, “It can be difficult for a soldier to adapt to the business culture of civilian life. However, the experience one gains within the forces is extremely valuable to any business. El’s keen drive and inquisitiveness are traits that have shown in his progressive development in becoming a more refined working professional.” This picture (above) provides a great snap shot of the ICTS Military START Programme story. Jon then subsequently recruited Paul Philips (ICTS Operations Manager, right) using the START recruitment methodologies, and El (centre) currently on the work placement is learning the roles and responsibilities of an ICTS Security Operations Manager. Jon Cermak has been introducing El to the way ICTS operate. “The aim of the placement is to provide an insight into ICTS, the security industry and, in this case, security management. El and I have been working together so that an insight into the role can be provided. He has shown a keen interest in the position and as his confidence increases, he has been suggesting options in improving aspects of operational activity.” El is expected to stay within his placement until the end of the year, “I am thoroughly enjoying my experience here and I am learning a great deal. The placement has definitely bolstered my confidence in perpetration to civilian life and I feel that the START programme is ideal for anyone who is looking to leave the forces. The mentors I have are worth their weight in gold and in such a short period of time, have shown me that there is not much to fear when it comes to looking out for new job roles. It’s simply a case of turning up as yourself and performing to the best of your abilities. This has been the best decision I have made professionally and I look forward to continuing with ICTS.” SEASONAL WORK RESUMES AT AN ICONIC GLOBAL VISITOR ATTRACTION In July 2016, a new executive ICTS team start providing a security service for a high profile client. The role the ICTS team are carrying out is providing a security presence at the arrival search area, access control at the rear site exit and an incident response function. CANINE SECURITY SERVICES NEW TRAINING FACILITIES IN BEDFORDSHIRE The ICTS Canine team has moved into new premises in Farndish, Bedfordshire. The centre provides ample dog training facilities as well as office space. “We have recently relocated our Didcot facilities to Farndish, a better suited location in the Midlands, which allows easier access to our teams that are based and deployed country-wide. As all our active and passive search dogs live with their handlers, we have decided not to have kennels, but have invested in good training facilities” said Jed Marshall, Head of Canine Security Services. ICTS CONTRACT WITH THE NEC IN BIRMINGHAM IS RENEWED FOR A FURTHER 6 YEARS ICTS is NEC’s preferred supplier of canine services, and supports the venue with explosives detection dogs throughout the year. “We have been operational at the NEC for 5 years now and are delighted to secure the contract for a good few years to come. The quality and scope of our services are noticed and we are fast expanding operations in the event and stadia world” says Jed Marshall, Head of Canine Security Services, ICTS UK. MUSIC FESTIVAL SEASON A team of ICTS handlers and drug search dogs screened the festival-goers for drugs at the ‘Electric Daisy Carnival’ in Milton Keynes. ROCKY & RAKE RETIRE Paul Ash’s Explosive Search Dog, Rocky, has retired and has found a new forever home with the Crompton family in Northamptonshire. He now lives with 2 other dogs, Labradors, and 2 cats and has settled in really well. Gordon Hale’s Drugs Search Dog, Rake, has retired at 9 years of age and is rehomed with Gordon Hale’s daughter. MARITIME ICTS OPERTATIONS AT CLYDEPORT Caroline Hiller (ICTS Duty Manager at Glasgow Airport) writes: “The Peelport Group are the owners of high-tech facilities for loading and unloading vessels in the UK with their unique infrastructure of ports. At one of these ports, Clydeport in Greenock (Scotland), several cruise liners berth throughout the year to embark and disembark passengers. Whilst most cruise ships have their own on-board security, ICTS have retained the port security for a number of years, assisting in the safe transportation of passengers and visitors from entering the depot, through the security facility to safe boarding of the ship. Safety is a top priority as this is a working container depot with many companies operating together to create a comfortable experience for the travelling public. 2016 has seen an increase from previous years in the number of ships docking at Clydeport from March to November. In June, one of the four strong Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Magic, a 84,000 ton ship called in for an inaugural visit as part of a 12-night UK itinerary. In August of each year the Edinburgh Tattoo increases the number of visitors in ships to Greenock. ICTS provides the security from around 6am to 2am the following morning, when all the visitors have been coached back from Edinburgh and are all safely on their ship. This involves tactical planning of two ICTS teams to cover, with a team change-over required. As you can see from the photograph, we are a happy team!” SOCIAL EVENTS SPORTS AND SOCIAL NIGHT AT SHANNON Elena Ricci (ICTS Security Agent at Shannon Airport) wrote, “ICTS Shannon held its first ever sports and social quiz night on 21 July 2016 in a close and local spot - Durty Nelly’s in Bunratty, Co. Clare. What had started off as 5 members of staff wanting to go, turned into 23 attending the event. We received the help and support of the Supervisors. We approached a number of sponsors to help us choose prizes. Right from my initial enquiry, and early discussions with Jim, through to the debrief at Stockley Park on Monday, I found each and every member of the team to be professional, responsive, polite and enthusiastic. Given that the eventual services supplied varied somewhat from the brief we had been given, and the team ended up playing a more observational role, there were plenty of reasons why apathy and frustration could have set in...but I saw none of it. Your team arrived on time, provided valuable input, made worthwhile suggestions and represented both Green Light and ICTS in an exemplary fashion. The support offered by Susan Dutt and Itai Sher was also hugely appreciated - nothing seemed to be too much of a problem and everything was acted upon in a timely fashion. It would appear that we will be called upon in 2017 to deliver an expanded service. I shall, of course, notify you as soon as our Report has been evaluated and the Client has made its decision about the way ahead. I look forward to working with ICTS again in the not too distant future.” Email from John Blunt (Security Manager, Home Office) forwarded to Brian O'Shaughnessy (ICTS N&NE Operations Manager): “Just like to mention the good work the guys at Russell Street did last Monday night 27/6. Enforcement brought a family of 6 in late on Monday evening and there was only one female member of staff from enforcement to deal with them. The parents had four young children with them so the guys helped to look after them while accommodation and travel were arranged. They stayed with the family as there was only one female member of the enforcement team on duty and made sure they were safely taken to their transport to their accommodation. Resulted in the family being looked after, especially the young children they had with them, during the stay in the reporting centre.” Email from Tracy McShane (Virgin Atlantic, Duty Manager LGW) to the ICTS management at London Gatwick Airport: “I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and your colleagues who worked really hard on the Chelsea flight today. Page 21 An extract from an email from Delta Air Lines’ Station Manager at Heathrow to ICTS: “The way the agents interact with the passengers using their names and smiling is very evident when I’m walking around check-in and down at the gates. The search team have done extremely well helping my team when we have the tight turns and passing quite a few of CAA audits since the beginning of the year. I mustn’t forget the catering team as well who are also doing a great job. Please tell them to continue their sterling work as they are part of the Delta team at LHR and our motto for this year and going forward is “Winning In London.” A message from the ICTS management team at Dublin Airport: “We would like to give special mention to the Ethiopian checkpoint team (James Dowling, David Dalton, Karen Dowling, Melissa Floody, Aisling Monahan, Bernard Gallagher and Patrick Callan) who worked the operation on 9th June 2016. Not only were we being audited by the TSA, but they had the misfortune of suffering a technical failure of the ETD machine during operation. The local engineers were contacted prior to start up but were unable to successfully repair the machine. As a result the agents had to process all passengers manually. The team worked tirelessly and to a high degree of efficiency to ensure that all passengers and their belongings were subjected to the appropriate search standards. Their dedication on the morning was second to none.” Well done team at Heathrow. Well done team in Dublin. An email from Barbara McDowell (Customer Service Supervisor, Delta Air Lines, Dublin Airport) to the ICTS management team at Dublin Airport following Delta’s worldwide system outage on 8 August 2016: “Please pass on my thanks to all teams that worked our flights today. This was a very unusual situation and all worked really hard in a very difficult situation to get the flights out of Dublin safely.” An email sent to ICTS from passengers at Shannon Airport: “We are back home in our little village north of New York city. We had a wonderful flight back home. It was 28C when we landed; it felt like we walked into the tropics! Well done Noah Ojo at Shannon Airport. From the time you met us at the Park Sheraton Inn at the Shannon Airport, right to the door of the Aer Lingus aircraft, navigating every step along the way, be it at the check in, the customs, security, or at the terminal gate, you made our experience at the airport stress fee and delightfully easy, something we have never known. As I’m sure you know American had for the second year in a row a completely clear audit with no findings. A NEW SECURITY AGENT AT EDINBURGH AIRPORT Marcella Johnston says, “I joined ICTS in February 2016, starting off with a Level 1 course. Then progressing on to the APM and AIM profiling courses and finally “going live” at the airport in April. Edinburgh is a small station so it has a real family feel, where you can really get to know your colleagues well. This helps not only to build great happy working relationships but also a great sense of trust within our team. Although we only have the 1 terminal at Edinburgh it is a hive of activity. On a daily basis we have 3 United Airlines flights, 1 American Airlines, 1 Delta and also Qatar and Air Canada flights.
