push page along to the end of your screen as you complete the rows. That will hold the
place where you left off. If you leave this pattern on your tablet or computer, instead of
printing it out, you will have detailed video tutorial at your finger tips and keep you place
without constantly have to re-finding where you left off.
The Octagon:
The octagon is worked in rounds. I made 2 octagons for thickness, but it is save enough not to
burn yourself even with just one layer. I sl st both together lining each up on top of each other.
You can change the color of thread sl st ing * see picture below) or make it background color as
in the medallion octagon. Your creativity is not limited. Experiment all you like.
Make a ring to crochet into.
Ring to crochet in instructions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXh7GcsValU&feature=youtu.be
12 sc in ring, sl st to first sc to close the row.
Next Row: ch 1, 2 sc in ever sc of previous row. =24 sts sl st to close row. ch 1
Start to work in rounds:
(see my website for difference between
rows and rounds, if you are not familiar with crochet
http://patternstriedandtrue.org/?s=Rows+and+rounds&x=0&y=0
*3 sc 2 sc in 1 st* . That will give you 6 “points”.
In the picture you can see the
points and how the rows develop
as you make 2 sc in one at the
exact same place
From now on you will make 2 sc in one st on every one of those “point” which makes the
hexagon.
When you can count 15 sts between the increase you stop. Fasten off on the first hexagon.
Make another Hexagon just like it and line it up with the first one than sl st together stitch for
stitch. Crochet a loop of app 30 ch for hanger. Sew in loose ends.
The Medallion:
Make ring like before.
ch 1, 17 dc in ring, sl st closed.
1. Row: ch 6 , sl st in 3rd dc of previous row. 6 times, so you have 6 half round loops.
2. Row:* sl st in first loop, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc, 1sc, sl st in next loop* 6 times
3. Step ( you no longer have rows): sl st to center of first “bow”, ch 24, sl st in same st
!
you started the chain, sl st to next center of bow, ch 24 and so on 6 times.
4. Step: sl st to middle between the bows, 30 dc in the loop, sl st to middle of bow, 6
!
times.
5. Step: ch 6, connecting the 6th st on each loop on the outside, sl st along 3 ch of the
loop with the flow going counter clockwise ( just keep going the same direction),
I opened the medallion a little on purpose to show you the sl st, but as you can see
left and right at the same spot , it lays flush against each other.
ch 3 for picot, sl st in base of ch 3. Do this 3 times, ch 10, skip 3 sts, sl st to loop ( see
picture above), 3 picots as before. Sl st in 6th st of the other loop, ch 3 make 3 picots,
ch 10 , skip 3, sl st and so on.
If you need help with how to make a
picot st, please watch this tutorial

Fasten off with a long thread for sewing on the medallion.
Sew in to fasten the starting thread and snip off.
Then, with the long thread, sew the ch10 loops in the place where the increase
( longest stretch) of the hexagon is, 5 rows from edge of potholder on all 6
loops. Fasten off securely in the folds of the double layer of potholder. ( see
picture)
Do the same thing for the other side of potholder, if you like.
Edge:
On the rim of the hexagon pick up all around single crochet in each of the edge
stitches of the potholder on BOTH sides (see pictures). Make sure you do this very
loosely, since you are working with 2 different thicknesses of thread.
Connect both sc rows ( front and back
of potholder) again very loosely.
Work 3 sts in every loop as follows:
1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc in one 1 st on potholder rim.
3 tc in next st on potholder rim.
1d, 1 hdc, 1 sc in next st on potholder rim,
repeat all the way around the outside of potholder. (see picture below)
Then turn and do the same thing for the other side - or leave it for just one
side, which is fine also, as I did.
