I hope it will be our last rain-out for a long while. The State Convention was held on June 3rd through 5th. We had a great turn out of Lodge members and had the best Hospitality Room. I would like to thank all the great volunteers for help at the Convention. Our Lodge won three awards: 1st Place Best Overall Lodge Activities Community Welfare Program Division 6; Highest Overall Contribution for the Year 2015-2016, Lodge Donation Total $16,564; and 2nd Place Award for Membership gain for 2015-2016. On June 6th we had our dinner for the winners of the Drug Awareness contest. Thanks to Jim Madden and his committee for a great event. Keep up the good work. I would like to thank the Emblem Club for their continued help in our Flag Day ceremony on the main deck. We had a great turn-out for our Annual Veterans’ Barbeque which was held on June 25th. The Lodge membership was proud to host this event for the heroes who attended. I would like to thank the Veterans’ Committee and volunteers who put this great program together. The summer season continues in July with the Sunday Bands. We will also have a band on July 4th. Our annual Lobster Fest will be held on July 17th with Freeplay providing the entertainment. We will need a lot of volunteers so if you have time, come down to help out. Our Annual Raffle is going on, so please buy tickets to help support our Lodge. I would like to take a minute to thank all our great volunteers. They are the backbone of any lodge. If you don’t already volunteer, please consider doing so. In closing I would like to congratulate Elk of the Month Jim Madden who has run the Drug Awareness Program for the past few years. Great job, Jim! Our Government leaders have seen need over and over to use military force to protect and defend our way of life. Many of those called to Duty gave their lives or suffered terrible injuries. In fact, our Military Veterans have not only helped make our lives better but have helped our Country be a beacon of light to the rest of the World. Our next Elks Lodge 1784 Veterans Program will be something new for our Lodge. We are naming it the Westbrook Elks Lodge 1784 Veterans Ball. So far we have not finished the details but here is the outline. It will be limited to Veterans who are Members of Lodge 1784 and their date. Attendees will be required to buy a ticket in advance to cover the cost of meal. Our speaker will be Jim Streeter, Forensic Scientist. The Manstan Band will provide the dancing music. The date is Sunday September 11, 2016 and the program will begin at 1:00 PM. Reservations will be limited to seating available. Live Entertainment RISEN The ENF Corner Elks National Foundation This month I wanted to let our members know a few facts on the Elks Nation Foundation. How the ENF Works: The ENF is able to help Elks build stronger communities thanks to contributions from our generous donors. Since inception, we have received more than $243.3 million in contributions and bequests. Today we boast more than 100,000 active donors and an endowment fund valued at $597.3 million. Since inception, the ENF has contributed more than $429.6 million toward Elks’ charitable projects nationwide. These funds enable programs that support youth, honor veterans, and meet needs in areas where Elks live and work. Our programs continue to grow each year, allowing Elks to do even more to build stronger communities A board of seven trustees, who are all past national presidents of the Order, governs the ENF, which is located at the Elks national headquarters in the Elks Veterans Memorial in Chicago. The director, Jim O'Kelley, oversees the administration of the ENF’s day-to-day operations. The ENF also has volunteers at the Lodge, district and state levels who help coordinate our fundraising strategy and implement our programs. Fraternally Yours, Jack Barnhart ENF Chairman. A REMINDER ABOUT YOUR DUES…… Only members who are not delinquent in the payment of dues are entitled to the privileges of membership in the Order. A member who is delinquent in the payment of dues is not entitled to use the club facilities nor visit any other Lodge nor be a guest of any other member, per the Grand Lodge Statutes. The 2016-2017 dues were payable by April 1, 2016. As of April 1, if you had not yet paid your dues, you are delinquent. As mandated, we have had to send payment in for your portion of the 2016-2017 per capita assessment fees to the State and Grand Lodge which includes your subscription to the Elks Magazine; therefore, we would appreciate the prompt payment of your dues. DON’T LOSE YOUR PRIVILEGES IN YOUR LODGE. DO PAY YOUR DUES! …..AND YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD Don’t forget to sign your membership card! If you don’t we will ask for a $5.00 donation for the Elks National Foundation. Other Lodges may charge you more. Or make you buy the bar a round of drinks. And a reminder, especially to new members – per Grand Lodge Statutes and Connecticut Liquor law, you cannot loan your membership card or your keycard to anyone for any reason. A spouse card can be received by written request to the Secretary. If your card is presented by anyone but yourself, the person will not be admitted and your card will be taken and returned to you. This can cause embarrassment to the party presenting the card and you could also lose your lodge privileges. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation of these laws. Thank you. IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL NOTICE, CONTACT THE SECRETARY’S OFFICE. 860-399-9191 Sunday July 17, 2016 Dinners served between 1:00-4:00 Twin Lobsters or Twin Steaks or Surf & Turf Corn on the Cob and Potatoes, Clam Chowder $ 2 Drafts $40.00 per person Available for an extra charge: Raw Bar Clams on the Half Shell and Shrimp Hot Dogs and Hamburgers available at Snack Bar Music by Freeplay Call Lodge Office for Tickets 860-399-9191 ext. 1 Tickets available at gate on a first come basis.
