The Dead River is famous for its spring
runoff and big water releases that offer
the longest stretch of continuous whitewater in the East. The 15 mile trip begins below Grand Falls and runs through
Class II to V rapids named Spencer Rips,
Hayden’s Landing, Elephant Rock and
the Mine Field ending at Poplar Falls, the
longest rapid in Maine. There are only 8
Dead River high-water release dates in the
spring, late summer and early fall. A few,
lower-level, recreational flows with milder
whitewater are scheduled in the summer.
Magic Falls Rafting Company
Or Current Resident
The Kennebec River Gorge is one of the
most beautiful in the East with steep rock
walls covered with a variety of evergreens
and hardwoods. Wild birds hover over the
gorge and a family of ospreys has been nesting in a towering old pine for over a decade.
The twelve mile trip begins at Harris Station
on Indian Pond and flows for four miles of
Class IV rapids with names like Big Mama,
White Washer and Z-Turn culminating at
the infamous Magic Falls. The last part of
the trip features smaller rapids where you
can jump in and float with the current, take
a turn at guiding the raft or just relax as the
river meanders downstream.

Our Pricing Policy
Before your river trek begins, we give a brief safety
talk. This not only is a precautionary safety measure, but lets
you in on some river insights from the river guides‘ point
of view. All guides are trained in first aid, CPR, and water
rescue. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices and
all safety equipment are provided.
Whitewater rafting is a physical sport which involves inherent risks. We do everything possible to insure a
safe trip. Because of the nature of outdoor recreational sports,
we do not accept responsibility for personal safety and we are
not liable for lost or damaged personal items. All rafters are
required to sign a Waiver of Liability and Risk Assumption.
Magic Falls Rafting reserves the right to change the
trip itinerary should water conditions create flows too high or
too low.
What to Wear on your Rafting Trip
For your comfort, you should bring a bathing suit,
sneakers, shorts, sweater, hat, windbreaker, or quick-drying
nylon clothing. No cotton please!
On the spring and fall trips we require that you wear
a wetsuit while on the river. You are welcome to rent one of
our suits or bring one of your own. Rental of a full suit is
$15.00, a half is $8.00, and booties are $5.00. Bring wool
socks. Please don‘t forget to bring a change of dry clothing
and footwear!

Magic Rivers Multi Gorge Adventure
In 2009 Magic Falls Rafting Co. was the first outfitter to offer a high-adventure, action-packed
double run of the Upper Kennebec Gorge. To meet demand for the new trip, a new company, Magic Rivers
was formed. Magic Rivers is dedicated to providing Kennebec double run trips for adult thrill-seeking
rafters.
The Multi Gorge Adventure rafts exclusively with 6-passenger Sport Boats, enabling us to surf
rapids and respond to big hits. We raft the five mile Upper Kennebec Gorge through Class III-V whitewater, take out at Carry Brook, return to Harris station and ride the Upper Gorge again. After take-out at
Carry Brook, we return to base camp for a hearty barbecue. The Multi Gorge Adventure is offered any day
excluding high water release days. A minimum of 8 passengers is required. We will try to combine passengers from different parties to qualify for the minimum.
Adult “Out-Back” Adventure
Dear Friends,
In 1989, we invested our family savings in a van, raft, house trailer and two cabins and carried 38
rafting guests on the Kennebec River.
Much has changed. Magic Falls now has over 40 rafts, 25 inflatable kayaks, a climbing tower,
recreation pavilion, campground, lodge and inn. We hosted over 6,000 rafters last season. In 2010, Dave
formed a new company, Magic Rivers, to offer high-adventure double run trips of the Upper Kennebec
Gorge. One thing has not changed- providing a fun, safety-conscious trip. Many of you come back to raft
with us year after year and have become our personal friends. We’re looking forward to another great
year and creating more happy rafting friends.
Sincerely,
Dave and Donna Neddeau, Owners
