A message from the Principal Diary Dates
Thursday 30th April 2015 Term 2, Week 1 A message from the Principal I hope you all had a great two week break with your children. We have all returned refreshed and ready for a great Term 2 together! A warm welcome to our new student Jay Peek and his family, to our school community. Jay will be in Year 7 and join our Upper Primary class. We hope Jay enjoys his learning journey at Moorook Primary. A big thankyou to the following students & families who braved the early morning and cold weather to attend and lay wreaths to represent Moorook Primary at the Anzac Day Services in Barmera & Loxton on Saturday: Laura and Olivia Morena, Lily Pankhurst, Anise and Addy Piltz, Ursula Hera-Singh, Madison and Lachlan Koop. Thankyou also to Mrs Pankhurst and Jacey for co-ordinating the students at these events. KIDSMATTER TRAINING Our KidsMatter Action Team completed the second component of our KidsMatter training yesterday Wednesday 29th April at the Waikerie Hotel. This component looked at Social & Emotional Learning. Please don’t forget to return the KidsMatter survey that we sent out at the end of Term 1 to find out parent/caregiver perceptions of our school. Your opinions are really valued and we would really appreciate it if you could please return it to the school by the end of this week Friday 1st May. Thankyou! PROFILE BOOKS Please remember that Profile Books need to be returned to class teachers once you have had time to look at these with your children. Please take the time to make a comment about your child’s work in their book. This term reporting to parents/ caregivers will be in the form of a Mid Year Report Card, sent home in Week 10. SAPSASA NETBALL Congratulations to Laura and Olivia Morena who joined with a group of girls from Cobby and Kingston-On-Murray Primary Schools to participate in the SAPSASA Netball Carnival in Berri during the last week of Term 1. Our girls were successful in winning the small schools section of the Netball Carnival, remaining undefeated on the day. What a great combined effort from our Small Schools! We are also thrilled to report that Laura Morena has been selected in the District Riverland SAPSASA Netball team to play in Adelaide in coming weeks. Well done Laura! SAPSASA FOOTBALL Well done to Cody Schutz who competed in the SASPSA Football Carnival at the end of last term. He joined students from Barmera and St Joseph's Primary School They came close in a couple of games but unfortunately did not come away with a win. Cody had a great time participating which is fantastic! SAPSASA CROSS COUNTRY Congratulations to Tessie Mitchell who has been selected for the SAPSASA Cross Country District Team. She competed at the Riverland event at Martins Bend at the end of last term and will travel to Adelaide to compete later this term. Well done Tessie! NAPLAN-National Assessment PlanLiteracy and Numeracy tests During week 3; Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th of May, students in year 3, 5 and 7 will be assessed in Literacy and Numeracy across Australia. These tests are just one way in which we can collect information on how our students are progressing in Literacy and Numeracy and enables us to continue reviewing and developing our teaching and learning programs to support the improvement of all students. Please make an appointment with the class teacher if you wish to discuss these tests further.
