Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
As we near the opening of the 2013-14 academic year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on and
acknowledge the accomplishments of the past year at Leominster High School and the Center for
Technical Education innovation. The unfortunate reality is that there are very few data points that
are gathered and shared with the public by the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education that truly indicate the frequent accomplishments of our students, both inside and
beyond the classroom. We have shared this data – MCAS scores, Graduation Rate, Dropout Rate –
with you annually, and I am happy to acknowledge that we have experienced significant growth in
all categories in comparison to 2007-2008, my first year as principal.
Thus, while I will begin this report with a few statistical reminders from 2012 data, the true intent
of this report is to highlight specific accomplishments of individual students, clubs and teams
during the 2012-13 school year. Let me emphasize that this is certainly not intended to be a full
representation of every accomplishment from last year. In fact, the successes indicated below were
simply gathered by asking teachers to submit the deeds of their students, club members or
athletes. Furthermore, they are offered in no particular order. I will apologize upfront to any
individual that was overlooked as there was no intention of slighting anyone. I simply wanted
everyone in our school community to understand how successful our student body, with the
support from effective teachers, tutors, administrators, advisors and coaches, truly is.
So, be proud, Leominster!!! There are many great achievements occurring in your high school!!

Congratulations to Nick Allain for winning this year’s AM VETS essay contest. As the first place
winner he will attend the annual Freedoms Foundation student conference at Valley Forge centering
on topics such as freedom, civil rights and civil responsibilities. Not only does Nick get to attend
this conference for free but he also won a $100 stipend from the AM VETS. Second place winner
Mackenzie Sidleau will also receive $100 and 3rd place winner Michael Levesque will receive $75.
Once again, the Center for Technical Education innovation partnered with Habitat for Humanity to
renovate a home for a new family on Graham Street. This wonderful effort was accomplished by the
following three programs –
Mr. Dan Bachant, Mr. Brian Williams and the students of the Carpentry Program
Mr. Barry Lyons, Mr. Ken Bisson and the students of the Electrical Program
Mr. Michael Carey and the students of the Plumbing Program
From our HVAC shop, Russell Esau shared the following -- It is my pleasure to inform you that all
seniors have passed the 608 EPA test at a universal level. This is a great accomplishment for
Russell and the seniors from HVAC which includes Carl Drouin, Marcos Rivera, Joe Schofield,
Michael Sheldon and Sharon Stacy.
Mr. Steve McNamara shared the news about the LHS/CTEi Devil Dawgs Electron America team
results following their competition in Lime Rock, CT. The goal was to see which team could
complete the most laps of the track using a single electrical charge.

There were 37 teams overall, and at least a dozen cars did not finish for various reasons
including blown tires, failed car parts or batteries that died too early.
Our Car 549 finished 3rd in the novice division with 34 laps. Unfortunately, we could have
had 37 laps but the drivers went through pit row a few times and did not get counted for
those laps. Rookie mistakes that will not happen again.
Our Car 555 finished 1st with 41 laps. This car crossed the finish line just as the batteries
died for the win. We beat out the second place car by 1 lap.
Next year we will be building two more cars. One car that will have a body made from carbon
composite and one with an aluminum frame. This will lower the weight and help us with
battery life.
Congratulations to 2013 LHS/CTEi Electron America Team!!

2013.

surprised Mrs. Cucchiara by presenting her with an autographed copy of her first book entitled Into

reinterpretation of 12 western, central and eastern European fairy tales and myths.
