On the Wings of a Gryphon November 2015 No. 8 Upcoming Events!!! Class of 1990 - 25 Year Reunion! Chartres House 601 Chartres Street Saturday, December 26th 7pm-10pm Buffet includes: Crab and Corn Bisque Caesar Salad Blackened Chicken with Crawfish Cream Sauce Shrimp and Tasso Penne Pasta Bread Pudding Open Bar LHS classes of ’87-’93 are invited to join us!!! Reserve your spot by December 18th. We hope you can make it!! Cost is $75/person. The 2016 Alumni Gift Gathering Party will be held on Saturday, January 16th. All alumni are invited!! Invitation email to follow in January. Gryphon Gala XXXIX - “A Gryphon Homecoming” SAVE THE DATE!! This year’s Gryphon Gala is being held on Saturday, March 19th at Atonement Lutheran Church and School in Metairie(6500 Riverside Drive). The hospitality hour and silent auction begin at 5pm, followed by a catered sit-down dinner at 6:00, and the verbal auction at 7:30. The Gala provides a fun atmosphere where you can reunite with old friends and teachers while supporting the ministry of Lutheran High School! If you haven’t been to the Gala in a few years, now is the perfect time to get involved with LHS again. Tables of 10 will be available. It would be great for each class to try to get a table of 10 (or more!) together. This year, the Gala will be honoring the Class of 1993!! ! We would love to see you there! In case you missed it . . . 2015 LHS Gryphon Gala Alumni Party in March and Gryphon Gala 2015 . . . Honorary Chairpersons - Matthew and Beth Saacks (LHS Class of ’84) Matthew and Beth Saacks with Matthew’s sister, Rachel Saacks Morse (LHS Class of ’89) The Class of 1982 was chosen as the Honorary Class! Representing the Class of 1982: Lisa Emboulas Farrell, Heidi Hill, Julie Taglauer, Jan Schindler Knecht, and Karla Feliu Yent Alumni Updates Classes of 1975 and 1976 Celebrate REUNIONS!! This summer, the LHS Classes of 1975 and 1976 celebrated their 40th and 39th reunions at David and Melanie Broadbridge’s second-home in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Nearly 40 people, including spouses, attended the event!! Congratulations!! Wedding! Makenzie Steffen Kokko graduated from Lutheran High in May 2010. Makenzie married Mitchell Kokko a graduate of Lutheran Northwest, Rochester Hills, Mi on May 16, 2014. They reside in Lansing, Michigan where Mitchell is a computer programmer and Makenzie is a private nanny. Graduations! Kyle Kessler (LHS Graduate of 2011) graduated from LSU in May 2015. He graduated Summa Cum Laude (3.95 GPA) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Kyle received the Civil Engineering Faculty Award for Leadership awarded by the faculty for academic excellence, and he passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in August 2014. Kyle is currently working with an engineering firm in New Orleans. He is the son of Kerry Kessler (LHS Class of ’75) and Tami Lawrence Kessler (LHS Class of ’76). Kristen Yent graduated from Destrehan High School in May 2015 with honors. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.8 GPA and received several scholarships to LSU. Kristen was the Student Council President, a member of National Honor Society, and a member of Beta. She will be majoring in International Studies at LSU (starting as a sophomore) and will graduate in 3 years due to Advanced Placement (AP) credits! GEAUX TIGERS! Kristen is the daughter of Karla Feliu Yent (LHS Class of ’82). Business Update Here’s a business update from Toby Moore (LHS Class of ‘85) and Vicki Ponson Moore (Class of ‘87). Toby has become an Independent Distributor for AdvoCare’s World Class Health and Nutritional Products, so he can share the products and his experience with friends and family all over the country. He says he and Vicki are in better health now then they were in their college years! Orders can be made at Toby’s website anywhere in the U.S. and shipping is quick and affordable.
