I am happy to report that Lynnwood High
School is a recipient of the 2014 Washington Achievement Award. We are being
honored for English Language Acquisition.
This is an extraordinary accomplishment
and is a direct reflection of the hard work
of our students, the dedication of our
teachers, and the support of our parents.
Our award is well deserved. In the past
years, we have implemented several improvements that have impacted our students’ success. The Washington Achievement Awards are sponsored by the Washington State Board of Education and the
Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. They celebrate Washington’s topperforming schools and recognize achievement in many categories. This highlyselective award is based on our school’s
performance on the Washington State
Achievement Index. The Washington
Achievement Award is given in six categories: overall excellence, high progress,
reading growth, math growth, graduation
rate (high and comprehensive schools only) and English language acquisition. I
hope you will visit the OSPI Washington
Achievement awards site to learn more
about the awards and the criteria for selection. The selection process for the
Washington Achievement Award is very
rigorous, and all of us take great pride in
this accomplishment.

It is time, once again, to announce those athletic teams
that have earned one of the Washington Interscholastic
Athletic Association awards!
The WIAA Scholastic Award program recognizes and
rewards those teams that maintain a high collective
academic standard. Any team with an average GPA of
3.0 or higher qualifies for a state award. A team with an
average of 3.0 – 3.49 qualifies for the Distinguished
Team Award, where a team with an average of 3.5 –
4.00 qualifies for the Outstanding Team Award. In addition, the team with the highest average GPA for the
sport and classification level is recognized as Academic
State Champion.
Please join the LHS Athletic Department in congratulating the following teams and their members for representing LHS not only on the field, court, track, or links,

she demonstrated impressive abilities to research. Laura is also very
active in numerous extracurricular activities. By pairing her creative side
with her analytical side, Laura is sure to find success in science and
beyond – CONGRATULATIONS!
CTE students of the month receive a $50 gift certificate and are honored by the Alderwood Terrace Rotary Club at its monthly breakfast.
LHS Music Teacher is Rotary ‘Educator of Month’

and also be organized and effective in planning complex activities and events,” Principal Dave Golden said.
“On any given day, you will find him working with kids at 6:30

REMEMBER…
Even if your senior has already been accepted to a college or university, now is NOT the time to give in to
“Senioritis.” We will mail out final transcripts after graduation to all universities. It is not unheard of for an acceptance to be rescinded due to poor performance during the last semester of high school.
Juniors – Class of 2016
Juniors should be finalizing their plans for senior year and beyond. Plan visits to colleges and universities, check
out apprenticeship programs, look at checkoutacollege.com for program information for 2 year certificate and degree programs. Many careers do not require a 4-year degree.
SAT & ACT Information
It is recommended that JUNIORS take the SAT and/or ACT during spring of their junior year! Sign up to take it if you
haven’t already.

Thanks to everyone that donated to and volunteered at our Value Village fundraiser. We
earned about $300! Not too bad for cleaning out some closets. A BIG Thank You to Mary
Johann for organizing this event and Kevin Skraban for the huge donation!
And without any publicity, Lisa McIntosh, with the help of Deanna McDowell, earned
$170.00 by holding a Bake Sale this past weekend during the drill team invitational that
was being held at LHS. Thank you!
I am looking forward to these super fun events coming in May:
May 9: Benefit Show featuring Power Cell at Sound Check Bar & Grill. Sound Check Bar &
Grill will host our 2nd annual benefit show. Power Cell has been hired to entertain us again,
but this year the venue is much closer to home! Come have fun listening to some great
music. Power Cell is an amazing band that covers 70s and 80s rock like no one else! $10
cover charge will get you in the door and Sound Check has a full bar and a great menu.
Show starts at 9pm, but come early for a fabulous dinner.
May 20: Another no cooking night! This time at Macaroni Grill. See the flyer that is
required for us to receive the donation. Help spread the word - the more people that dine,
the more we will make! You don't have to be associated with LHS to participate, you just
need a flyer.
And finally, see the Grad Night order form. We will not have a graduation date until the
legislative session ends, but I am starting to sell tickets to our Safe, Sane and Specular
Grad Night Celebration. If you order before September 15, the cost is only $50.00. So
order early and save!
And don’t forget about these on-going fundraisers:
Amazon.com - I'm sure you already shop there on a regular basis, so next time you do log
on through this address for the class of 2016 to receive a referral commission: http://
www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&tag=lyhiscpt-20 Once you log on, please bookmark
the page. The more that is bought through this site, the more of a commission we receive,
so please spread the word to your family and friends.

As the end of another school year approaches, the nominating committee would like you to
be aware that there are quite a few positions available for next year. PTSA Board members
are only allowed to hold a position for two consecutive years, which means that our
Treasurer and Secretary need to step down. Other positions include: President, Vice
President, Staff Appreciation (luncheon lead), website and membership. If you would like
to nominate yourself or someone you know, send an email to
[email protected]
Please make plans to attend our next meeting which is being held Thursday, May 7th
starting at 7pm in the school library.
If you haven't already, please sign up for the Fred Meyer rewards program, this is a super
easy way to support the LHS PTSA.

BOOSTER CLUB OPEN HOUSE
Hello all future and current Royal Parents,
In lieu of our next Board Meeting on May 4th, the Booster Club would like to invite
you to a Booster Club Open House on May 4th at 7:00PM in the LHS Agora. This
will be a fun-filled casual evening that will give you an opportunity to socialize with
the Booster Club Board and members. It will also provide you an opportunity to
hear what our mission is and what new and exciting things we have planned for
next year. The LHS Booster Club is a key component to the success of LHS and
we would love for you come and hear all about who we are, what we do and ask
any questions you may have. Desserts and coffee will be served. Please feel free
to invite any other friends you may know whose child will attend LHS in the future,
i.e., Oak Heights, Spruce, Alderwood Middle School, etc.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
