Sisters&Brothers director Carl Bessai took home the lion’s share of the Leo awards at B.C. film and television’s biggest night. Fred Canada’s Top Chef Dale MacKay joined local personalities to serve up dim sum at AIDS Vancouver’s Celebrity Dim Sum benefit at Sun Sui Wah. UNLEESHED Bob Gallagher, with his wife Christy, helped raise awareness and funds for heart health and prevention programs at the the Heart of Gold Gala. Golden girls: Two-time gala chair Carey Smith and honourary chair Bob Gallagher fronted the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Heart of Gold Gala. Gorgeous gold gowns dominated the red carpet at the Hotel Vancouver for the eighth running of the charity dinner and auction fittingly sponsored by Goldcorp. Helping the foundation’s effort of reducing deaths due to heart disease and stroke by 25 per cent by 2020, gala-goers emptied their wallets of $675,000 for the cause. The lion’s share: Carl Bessai’s third installment of his familial trilogy that looked into the lives of four sets of siblings, was the big winner at this year’s Leo Awards, B.C. film and television’s biggest night. Starring an ensemble cast that included Glee’s Cory Monteith, Gabrielle Miller and Tom Scholte, Sisters&Brothers earned six trophies including Best Feature and Best Director. Other winners included Best Actress Meg Tilly (Bomb Girls), Best Actor Ryan Robbins (Marilyn) and Ice Pilots for Best Doc. Homeless score big: Yours truly emceed the fifth Golf for the Homeless Community golf tourney and dinner at the University Golf Course. Golf enthusiasts including former premier Mike Harcourt hit the links in support of First United Church’s ongoing efforts of providing programs for the most vulnerable citizens of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Janelle Washington, Eleu Kruse and Carey Smith were among the golden girls at the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Heart of Gold Gala.
