OUR GANG
The Borough of Paramus is proud to sponsor three senior citizen clubs for its residents. All three clubs have access and meet at the Joseph Cipolla Senior Activity Center.
AARP CHAPTER #3834
Our meetings begin at 1:00 pm the second Thursday of the month and everyone is welcome. Refreshments are served at the meetings
and we normally have a guest speaker. Our activities include presenting scholarships to graduates who are contemplating a career in
nursing or medical profession, collecting box top coupons for the schools and manufacturer’s coupons for the families of the military
serving our country overseas. If you care to help us in our undertaking we are always looking for new members!
If interested in joining call Margaret Sortino 201-265-2305
SENIOR CITIZENS #1 CLUB
This club holds meetings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. There is a social hour that starts at 11:00 am where coffee and
cake is provided. The meeting begins at 12 noon with a short business meeting followed by a guest speaker of interest to seniors or
live entertainment when available. We have terrific day trips and occasionally overnight trips. There is a picnic in July and a holiday
party in December. Our installation of officers is held in March at Season’s in Washington Township. We welcome all new members!

the latest senior updates from around Bergen County, as well as, professional speakers.
STARTING FRIDAY JUNE 3rd at 11::00am to 12:-00pm
LINE DANCING WITH IRMA
Line dancing assists with balance, stamina,
and increasing one’s JOY
You can tell from the statue of a mounted horseman how the rider died. If all
four of the horse's feet are on the ground, he died of natural causes. One foot
raised means he died from wounds suffered in battle. Two legs raised means
he died in action.

JUNE is National Safety Month
Sponsor: The National Safety Council
Injuries are a leading cause of disability for people of all ages. There are many things people can do to stay
safe and prevent injuries.Make a difference: Spread the word about ways to reduce the risk of injuries. Encourage communities, workplaces, families, and individuals to identify and report safety hazards.
How can National Safety Month make a difference?
We can all use this month to raise awareness about important safety issues like:
Prescription painkiller abuse
 Transportation safety
 Ergonomics
 Emergency preparedness
 Slips, trips, and falls
Prescription painkiller abuse: Prescription painkiller overdoses are a growingproblem in the United States, especially among women. About 18 women dieevery day from a prescription painkiller overdose.
Transportation safety: Doing other activities while driving – like texting or eating–distracts you and increases
your chance of crashing. Almost 1 in 5 crashes(17%) that injured someone involved distracted driving.•
Slips, trips, and falls: One in 3 older adults falls each year. Many falls lead to broken bones and other health
problems.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified many conditions that contribute to falling:
Lower body weakness; Vitamin D Deficiency; Difficulties with walking and balance; use of medicines such as
tranquilizers, sedatives or antidepressants.; Vision problems; foot pain or poor footwear,;broken or uneven
steps; throw rugs/clutter that can be tripped over; no handrails along stairs or in the bath room. These are all
risk factors and if they are reduced it will help cut down a person’s risk of being injured.
Thursday June 23rd at 1:00 pm Paramus Police will be here to talk about staying safe. on the streets and in your
home. Call and register with Anne /Ana 201-265-2100 ext 6120.
ART CLASS: Get out your paint brushes and create
a work of art, with oil paint, acrylics, and watercolor
Paints. Bring your own supplies. This art class
takes place at the senior center on the lower
level
MONDAYS, 11:00 am. – 1:00 pm
Instructor: Josephine Swift
Sudoku and crossword puzzles are not only fun, but they can also
provide seniors with health benefits. The puzzles can help keep
memory sharp, reduce stress and improve concentration,
