If all four of the horse's feet are on the ground, he died of natural causes. One foot raised means he died from wounds suffered in battle. Two legs raised means he died in action. Page 4 Joseph Cipolla Senior Activity Center JUNE 2016 JUNE is National Safety Month Sponsor: The National Safety Council Injuries are a leading cause of disability for people of all ages. There are many things people can do to stay safe and prevent injuries.Make a difference: Spread the word about ways to reduce the risk of injuries. Encourage communities, workplaces, families, and individuals to identify and report safety hazards. How can National Safety Month make a difference? We can all use this month to raise awareness about important safety issues like: Prescription painkiller abuse Transportation safety Ergonomics Emergency preparedness Slips, trips, and falls Prescription painkiller abuse: Prescription painkiller overdoses are a growingproblem in the United States, especially among women. About 18 women dieevery day from a prescription painkiller overdose. Transportation safety: Doing other activities while driving – like texting or eating–distracts you and increases your chance of crashing. Almost 1 in 5 crashes(17%) that injured someone involved distracted driving.• Slips, trips, and falls: One in 3 older adults falls each year. Many falls lead to broken bones and other health problems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified many conditions that contribute to falling: Lower body weakness; Vitamin D Deficiency; Difficulties with walking and balance; use of medicines such as tranquilizers, sedatives or antidepressants.; Vision problems; foot pain or poor footwear,;broken or uneven steps; throw rugs/clutter that can be tripped over; no handrails along stairs or in the bath room. These are all risk factors and if they are reduced it will help cut down a person’s risk of being injured. Thursday June 23rd at 1:00 pm Paramus Police will be here to talk about staying safe. on the streets and in your home. Call and register with Anne /Ana 201-265-2100 ext 6120.
