Procedure for Replacing Control Board (Part # 813224 or 813226)
This is a brief procedure for servicing the motor control board. Depending on your serial number, the
new control board may appear different than the board you are replacing.
A. First unplug the machine from its power source.
B. Remove the four screws located at the bottom of the front panel. This will require a 5/16-nut driver
or a socket. Note: Notice the position of the front panel in regards to the top panel. This position
will be important when replacing the front panel.
C. With all four screws removed, pull out and down on the front panel. There are two locating pins on
each side of the front of the cabinet; you will need to clear these pins. The panel should now be
clear of the machine. Set this panel to the side.
D. Remove the two 5/16-headed screws located at the upper left and right corner of the edge of the
cabinet. These two screws will allow access to the interior of the machine. Set these two screws
aside separate from the other four screws because they may be different on your machine.
E. Lift up on the front of the top until the two front clips have cleared the edge of the cabinet. Note:
Secure the lid to the top panel with a piece of tape or some other means. Once the top is raised
vertically, the lid might open and fall backwards. This could damage the lid or cause it to become
detached from the top.
F. Pull the plastic top assembly towards you an inch to free up the hinges on the back. Then lift the
top until you can gain access to the rear wall of the cabinet. Note: Again, secure the top so it will
remain open while you are working in this area. If the top is not secured, it could fall closed while
you are working in this area.
G. The motor control board is now accessible. The location of the board is on the rear upper right
corner of the cabinet.
H. Removal of the control board (for models HXW2300, HXW2301, HXW2302, HXW2303, and
HXW2304 to Aug. ‘01 control board replacement)
1. Remove both of the wire connections on top of the control board. Note: It is advisable to
secure the board with your free hand while removing the wire connections.
2. The right-hand connector will pull off. It may require a little force to pull the connector
free. Again, secure the board with your free hand while removing this connector.
3. The left-hand connector has two retaining clips on either side of the connector. While
squeezing these two connectors, rock the connector back and forth until the connector is
free.
4. Disconnect the two wires on the circuit board that connect to the circuit breaker. These will
no longer be needed with the new control board.
5. To release the board from the four standoffs, there is a latching pin in the center of the
standoff that sticks through the board. Depress this latch while gently pulling out on the
corner of the board. Repeat this procedure until all four corners are free. Now the board can
be removed from the machine.
6. Remove all four plastic standoffs.
I. Removal of the control board (For model HXW2304 after Aug. ’01)
1. Remove right-hand wire connector as indicated in H-2 above
J.
K.
L.
M.
2. Remove left-hand wire harness connector as indicated in H-3 above
3. Remove three plastic thumb screws from the three corners of the aluminum plate
4. Remove three plastic standoffs from stud
5. Remove control board from mounting studs
To replace the board, perform this procedure in reverse.
1. (For model HXW2300, HXW2301, HXW2302, HXW2303, and HXW2304 prior to Aug.
’01) Slide the control board’s studs into the standoff holes in the back of the machine.
2. (For HXW2304 after Aug. ’01) Put control board on mounting studs; install standoffs and
thumbnuts.
Note: The left-hand connection can go on only one way. There is a flat side on one
of the connections that only allows the connector to be inserted one way. Also, the
right-hand connector (called J2) will go on with the silver terminals facing up (*see
photo below).
Lower the top back into position and re-set the two hinges into place on the back.
1. While lowering the top, ensure that the rubber skirt is located in the gray bezel. The bezel is
the plastic insert that covers the spinner basket. There is a channel around the bezel that
locates the skirt. This is the section that has the hump on the bezel. Ensure that all four sides
of the skirt are located in this area or there is great risk of water escaping during wash and
spin.
2. Ensure that the two top clips are located behind the edge of the cabinet in the front. Replace
and tighten two of the 5/16 headed screws.
Replace the front panel and tighten the four 5/16 headed screws.
1. Ensure that the top of the front panel is properly located or the panel will rattle during spin.
This panel also gives the machine its stability and if it is not located properly damage may
be incurred.
2. Guide the front panel over the two location pins.
3. Align the holes at the bottom of the front panel and tighten the four 5/16 headed screws.
Remove the restraint that is securing the lid and open. Rotate the basket until the doors are facing
down. With some force, press down on the basket with both hands. Visually inspect to see that the
rubber skirt is positioned in the bezel.
Note: Please return defective board within two weeks. (Return via regular mail, no insurance or
Priority Mail required, using box it was shipped in and label provided.)

REPLACING A MECHANICAL TIMER
1. Unplug machine.
2. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the six screws on the control panel.
3. Push timer knob in, gently pull control panel forward, and pull black pin on back
of timer out about a half an inch (see Figure 1).
Figure 1
4. After pulling the black pin out, this will allow you to remove the large knob, disk,
and small spacer off the front of control panel.
5. Remove the plastic wire tie around the wire harness connected to the timer (see
Figure 2).
Figure 2
6. Lift up gently on plastic tab to remove wire harness plug (see Figure 3).
Figure 3
7. Remove screw (see Figure 4), lift tab, then slide timer to the left to remove.
Figure 4
8. Reverse procedure to install new timer. When it is time to put the knob on, put the
knob on while making sure the black pin on the back of the timer is pushed in all
the way until you hear it ‘click’ into place. This will keep you from being able to
pull the knob off.

CHECKING FOR STUCK BRUSHES & CONTINUITY ON A
MOTOR
1. Disconnect the washer from the power source.
2. Remove the four 5/16 headed screws located at the bottom of the front panel.
3. After the screws have been removed, grasp the panel on both sides and pull forward. Allow
the panel to drop free of the top assembly and set aside.
4. You will need a pencil, pen, or small screw driver.
5. The motor is under the tub.
6. On the right side of the motor about 7/8th’s of the way back there is a square hole that is a
little larger than a pencil. On the back side of this hole there is a piece of rubbery siliconetype material. Do not push on this piece of silicone; we are using it as a guide only. Put the
screwdriver in front of the piece of silicone and insert it into the motor approximately ½
inch. You should hit something hard. If you go in more than ½ inch you are not in the
correct spot. When you hit something hard give it a nudge, you will not feel it move. Now,
while applying pressure on this same spot manually turn the drum with the pulley 2-3
revolutions and you should hear a ‘friction buzzing’ sound and feel some bumps.
7. Go to the left side of the motor. This is the same hole, same spot, same situation, but the
hole is behind the flange that is part of the motor housing that comes out over the wire
harness. Do the same thing: Put the screwdriver in front of the piece of silicone and insert
it into the motor approximately ½ inch. You should hit something hard. If you go in more
than ½ inch you are not in the correct spot. When you hit something hard give it a nudge,
you will not feel it move. Now, while applying pressure on this same spot manually turn
the drum with the pulley 2-3 revolutions and you should hear a ‘friction buzzing’ sound and
feel some bumps.
8. Plug machine back in and turn the timer knob straight down to the floor just beyond the
spin and the motor should start to turn.
This is a view of the left side of the
motor towards the back looking at
the hole where you need to push in
on the brush.
This is a view of the right side of
the motor towards the back looking
at the hole where you need to push
in on the brush.
(CONTINUED ON BACK)
9. If the machine does not start, then you would need to check for continuity on the motor.
You will need a multi-meter (or volt-meter), and put it on ‘OHMS’.
10. Disconnect the washer from the power source.
11. Unplug the wiring harness from the motor.
12. There are eight pins on the motor. Counting from the top down you would need to check for
continuity (the needle should move as opposed to staying still) between pins 1-2, 1-3, 2-3,
4-5, and 6-7. Pins 4-5 are the brushes. If you do not have continuity between any of these
pins, then the motor would need to be replaced. If you have continuity between all pins,
then the motor is good.
This is a front view of the motor. The motor is located
at the front bottom of the outer tub.
The hole for the brush is
behind this flange that
the wire harness is
connected to on the left
side of the motor.
The hole for the brush is
located at the right side
of the motor towards the
back.

Disconnect the washer from the power source.
Remove the four 5/16 headed screws located at the bottom of the front panel.
After the screws have been removed, grasp the panel on both sides and pull forward. Allow
the panel to drop free of the top assembly and set aside.
Remove safety wire (Part No. 818361) from old pulley.
Remove front bolt and washer (Part No.’s 42, 41)
Back-out set-screws or set-bolts on old pulley by unscrewing with a 5/32”allen wrench or
5/16” closed-end wrench.
Grasp opposite sides and pull the old pulley toward you until off. Wiggle pulley while
pulling may be necessary.
Clean shaft with a rag.
File down ridges with a small fine file where set-screw was until shaft is smooth
Clean and polish with a strip from a sheet of fine emery cloth or wet-dry sand paper (600
grit)
Inspect the new pulley making sure the set-bolts are backed-out and recessed in the pulley
body so they cannot touch the shaft. Wipe the inside of the pulley with a rag to make sure
there are no small bits of dirt, grit, or machine shaving.

Push the new pulley onto shaft by wiggling at different spokes. Or you can wiggle, turn
pulley, then again wiggle the pulley at two different spokes, turn, etc. Continue until the
back of the pulley is “snug” against the rear spacer washer. Note: If this does not work put a
small piece of wood (block from a 2x4) against the center of the pulley. Then gently tap the
block with a small hammer. Rotate the pulley after a few taps to insure it goes on straight.
Continue until the back side of the pulley center is against the back spacer (Part No. 40) See
Figure, Parts, Page 17 in Operator’s Manual.
Turn pulley and make sure it turns smoothly and is not making any scraping sounds or feels
loose. You can inspect the back of the pulley with a small compact mirror and a flashlight
to insure the pulley is pushed far enough onto the shaft.
Clean all dirt and any oil on front bolt and washer from above Step 5 (Part No.’s 42, 41).
Put a few drops of thread sealant on threads. Then, replace lock washer, flat washer, and
front bolt. Tighten front bolt with a 7/16” wrench or socket.
Run the supplied safety wire through the drilled hole in the spoke of the pulley and hole of
the bolt head.
Bend the ends so they are of equal length side-by-side.
With a pair of vise grips, grip both wires then twist until they are braided to the bolt head.
CAUTION: DO NOT TWIST THE WIRE IN HALF.
With a pair of side cutters, cut off the excess leaving from ½ to 1 inch in length of twist.
Now, tighten both set-bolts with a 5/16” wrench or socket and ratchet.
Replace belt by attaching to small motor shaft at bottom then working belt onto new large
pulley.
Adjust belt tension so that there is approximately 1/4” deflection on either side of the belt
midway between the two pulleys (or 65-70 foot/lbs.) and tighten adjustment bolt. Check
belt tightness by pushing inward at mid-point between the pulleys. It should not stretch or
move inward more than a ¼” from its original position. If belt is too loose, refer to
replacing drive motor and belt tightening instructions on page 10 of the Operator’s Manual.
Note: This might be a good time to grease both bearings (Parts No.25). Squeeze a small amount (less
than 1 oz.) of white lithium grease in both front and back bearings. Locate the small yellow plastic cap
or plug on-top of the front bearings. Next remove the two screws to lift the top and lid assembly, pull
the top and lid assembly forward an inch or two, lift top and lid assembly up and locate the rear
bearings. Remove each cap then lubricate by pushing the nose of the small tube firmly into the hole.
Squeeze a small amount of white lithium grease into each opening. Replace the cap and wipe away any
excess. (White lithium grease can be bought in most auto part supply stores in a small 1.5 oz tube.)

2. Move the washer out in the open. Lay a piece of cardboard or a blanket
on the floor to protect the side of the washer.
3. Carefully lay the washer on its right side (facing the machine), and
remove the front panel by taking out the four (4) 5/16” screws that hold
the panel in place (located at the bottom of the front panel).
4. Locate the four struts.
5. Remove the four (4) nuts that hold the struts to the machines’ base.
6. Grab hold of the lower (narrower portion) part of the strut and push
towards the upper (wider portion) part of the strut. This will collapse the
strut enough to allow you to remove the lower part of the strut. Do this
for each strut you will be replacing.
7. Remove the nuts that hold the upper part of the strut in place. Remove the
upper part of the strut.
8. You now should have all struts out of the machine. In order to install the
new struts, all you have to do is reverse the order of what you just did.
You will need to hold back on the thin portion of the upper part of the
strut in order to tighten the nut.
9. After you have installed all of the struts, replace the front panel and
carefully stand the washer back to its original position.
10. Make certain that the tub assembly is positioned in the opening through
the top. Also, check to see if the skirt is down in the gray bezel properly.
11. If you have any questions, please call us at 614-548-0098 between 7-3
ET Mon.-Fri. and ask for technical support.
