Travel back in time for a special evening of mystery,
chills, and thrills. Music, voices and sounds create
frightening “pictures” in the imaginations of those
that experience “the theater of the mind” as presented
by radio historian Steve Darnall. He will bring us a
program of goose-bump-inducing sound clips from
radio’s scariest shows like Escape, Inner Sanctum,
and Lights Out.
R Pearl
Harbor: A Day That Will Live in Infamy
Sponsored by the Friends of the Library
Monday, November 28 @ 7pm
Historian, Jim Gibbons, will talk about the beginnings of the storms of war that led to
the predawn attack 75 years ago. He will explain how our government in Washington
and the people of the America were wooed to vulnerability and then struck hard by the
Empire of Japan. After suffering
a devastating naval loss in less
than two hours that was more
than the entire naval losses in
World War I, the people of
this country (as FDR stated),
“In their righteous might [did]
succeed to absolute victory!”

R-$Chicago’s Golden Era: Prairie Ave Historic District
& Union League Club
Wednesday, October 19 from 8:15am – 3pm
See some of the exquisite mansions of our city’s
historic past from the 1890’s. A local Chicago guide

Mansion, Wheeler Mansion, and Clarke House,
Chicago’s oldest surviving building. We’ll have a guided tour of the Glessner
House, where modern American architecture began. Our lunch today is at
the historic Union League Club* for a fabulous luncheon buffet. This private
club dates back to the 1800’s, where its members had been instrumental in
establishing many of Chicago’s cultural icons including Orchestra Hall, the
Field Museum, and the Art Institute, and were the driving force for the city
to host the 1893 Columbian Exposition. We’ll also tour the club’s incredible
art collection…one of the oldest and most important private collections
of American art in the Midwest.*IMPORTANT NOTE* Union League

the different options available.
