B lue B ayou: A Linda Rondstadt Tribute Show
September 11 // 2pm
Vocalist Carolyn Benson captures the look
and sound of rock’s first female superstar,
Linda Ronstadt. Backed by a quartet of
musicians, Mark Pohl on drums, Davie Wise
on guitar, Peter Crugnale on bass, and
Phil LoPinto on piano, Blue Bayou performs
hits from Linda’s early rock/pop career including “When Will I
Be Loved,” “Different Drum,” and “You’re No Good.”
P aul J oseph Q uartet: Jazz Italiano
October 16 // 2pm
Composer/pianist Paul Joseph and his talented
bandmates perform instrumental jazz renditions
of Italian favorites such as “Santa Lucia,” and
“O Sole Mio,” a medley of Puccini arias, and
the theme song for The Godfather, “Speak
Softly Love.” Joining Paul will be Michael Corn on drums,
Edgar Mills on bass, and Susan Mitchell on violin.
These concerts are free and open to the public. Doors will open
at 1:30pm. Seating is on a first come basis.

Film historian Philip Harwood takes us back to Hollywood,
before the enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code,
when studios tested the outer limits of propriety with films such
as Baby Face, Red-Headed Woman, Three on a Match, and
Scarface. Discover how filmmakers were able to initially
ignore the Code, enacted in 1930, and what led studios to finally
capitulate in 1934.

the “other side” in this multimedia presentation that includes

REGISTRATION GUIDELINES
Residents of the Oceanside School District are given priority
for our programs. In-person registration begins at 7pm.
The Library reserves the right to limit the number of tickets
given to any one person. Fees are nonrefundable.
To secure a place in the program, patrons must pay (cash
only) within three days of registering, or we will contact the
next person on the waiting list. Out-of-district patrons may
begin registering on the fourth day after in-person registration.
Proof of age is required.

starting in October we will host a Next Chapter
book club. This small book club offers
adults (18+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities
the opportunity to read for pleasure and socialize in the
community. It will be guided by a pair of trained volunteer
facilitators, meeting weekly for about an hour in the magazine
section of the Library. The book club will meet on Fridays
from 2:30-3:30pm commencing October 7th.

SENSORY FRIENDLY FILMS
We are pleased to offer these movies under “Sensory Friendly”
conditions, as a special opportunity for families to enjoy a
film in a safe and accepting environment. We’ll keep the lights
slightly up and the sound turned slightly down. Our policies
regarding quiet and remaining in one’s seat will not be

to learn any of 80 languages with selfdirected lessons, live teachers, movies,

your home with your library card, so

you will be learning a new language in no time.
ROKU STREAMING STICKS
Beginning Tuesday, September 6,
the Library will be circulating Roku
streaming sticks for a 7-day loan period
to Oceanside Library cardholders over
18 years of age who are in good standing.
Each stick is preloaded with access to over 200 different
