On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire membership of the Junior League of Orange County, California, Inc. (JLOCC), we welcome you to “40 Years Bright”, The Christmas Company! Celebrating its 40th year, we are so very pleased that you have chosen to spend your time with us at this treasured and long-standing Orange County event. In addition to the fabulous shopping, the weekend is filled with special events for adults and children alike, all created through the vision and execution of our amazing Steering Team and committee members, led by Nadia Bess. I am awestruck by what these women accomplished and am so very grateful for their dedication to our League, our Mission, and our community. The funds raised from this unique event support the Junior League’s Mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The 600+ members of the JLOCC share a vision of a community in which the healthy, safety, and education of all individuals are promoted and supported. To accomplish this, the JLOCC trains its members to be leaders in the community, while partnering with various community organizations. Our legacy of strong supporters, important community collaborations, dedicated members and over $7 million dollars raised since JLOCC’s inception has helped shape the Orange County landscape for 60 years; the JLOCC is celebrating its diamond jubilee! Contributions help provide funding for the JLOCC’s current charity partners, fund our scholarship program for local students seeking college degrees, provide volunteer training workshops and materials, and fund the day-to-day operations of the League. By shopping and participating in the special events at the 2015 The Christmas Company, you will be supporting a variety of the JLOCC’s projects including: • The JLOCC Signature Project, Orangewood Children’s Foundation, The Academy • Orangewood Children’s Foundation: Bear Hugs and Bear Necessities Program • Human Trafficking Awareness and Education Campaign • Blind Children’s Learning Center • Grandma’s House of Hope • Junior League Juniors • Impact Orange County • Kids in the Kitchen Additionally, 15% of every dollar spent on goods purchased from our exhibitors goes back to the JLOCC. The Christmas Company would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors, contributors, shoppers, and special event attendees. It is because of you that the JLOCC can continue to be a catalyst of lasting change in our community. Thank you for your support and participation. We wish each of you a joyous holiday season and an incredible year ahead. There are not enough words of gratitude to express my deep appreciation for their devotion and contributions to produce such a fantastic event. Our 2015 Christmas Company Steering Team includes Christina Markl, Anne Marie Rye, Cori Vernam, Mikaela Bauer, Kendall Craver, Ashley Trowbridge, Mackenzie Crigger, Sheila Witt, Allison Renard, Alicia Clark, Yvette Patko, and Luciana Laszewski. I would also like to thank Mary Ann Del Fante and Kim Christiansen whose efforts, guidance and support embody the mission of the JLOCC. It is because of you that the JLOCC can continue to enrich the lives of women and children in need throughout Orange County. In addition, this event would not be successful without the participation of each JLOCC member. THE CHRISTMAS COMPANY | 2015 15 2015 – 2016 COMMUNITY PROJECTS THE ORANGEWOOD ACADEMY Over 300 teens emancipate yearly, and many lack the support system to help them finish high school and plan their future. To ease the transition into independent living, the Bear Hugs and Bear Necessities program provides emancipated teens with a duffel bag full of essentials. In addition, the Bear Hugs and Bear Necessities program supports the Orangewood Resource Center (ORC) through their Independent Living Program (ILP) and the Rising Tide Community Program to provide support services focusing onemployment, education, health, and housing. HUMAN TRAFFICKING Due in large part to the resort industry and transportation infrastructure, Orange County has become a hub of human trafficking in California. Foster children are particularly vulnerable to human traffickers since they often lack a stable home life and support system. The JLOCC holds a vision to combat the perils of human trafficking by networking and collaborating with organizations that share the same vision in the Orange County community. Together we will educate and bring awareness to change public perception on what human trafficking is via trainings, rallies, and community events that include victims, law enforcement, data/statistics, and policy development. THE SAMUELI ACADEMY The Junior League of Orange County, California, Inc. (JLOCC) is proud to support The Samueli Academy, the Orangewood Children’s Foundation’s college-preparatory public charter high school. The Samueli Academy’s mission is to provide a transformational learning environment to underserved teens and will serve as both a home and educational facility for foster and at-risk youth. JLOCC members will have many hands-on volunteer opportunities on the Academy campus. We have been involved with facilitating their monthly Community Nights, as well as various events throughout the school year. We look forward to creating new and exciting programs that will broaden each member’s training experience and most importantly, positively impact the lives of each student. GRANDMA’S HOUSE OF HOPE Grandma’s House of Hope’s mission is to empower the invisible populations of Orange County. They are an Orange County-based nonprofit providing basic needs and enrichment services to women, children, and families living in extreme poverty and facing seemingly insurmountable barriers, including human trafficking, domestic violence, life-threatening illnesses, and severe mental health concerns. 16 2015 – 2016 COMMUNITY PROJECTS BLIND CHILDREN'S LEARNING CENTER The Blind Children’s Learning Center (“BCLC”) provides early intervention, education and services for blind, visually impaired or deafblind children and their families to empower independence. The JLOCC has embarked on a multifaceted partnership with BCLC to increase the impact of current services while creating new ones. We have bolstered their sports programs and developed music opportunities. The JLOCC is also developing a parent support group to include educational programs in an emotionally supportive environment. JUNIOR LEAGUE JUNIORS Junior League Juniors, is an entirely Junior League of Orange County, CA program, which will create a community of compassionate children. Junior League Juniors are taught the values of philanthropy and volunteerism through engaging events, which develop the compassion that will continue to transform communities. This program also gives parents meaningful opportunities to model philanthropic ideals to their children. KIDS IN THE KITCHEN Kids in the Kitchen is a Junior League program targeting youth to address the urgent issues that contribute to childhood obesity and poor nutrition. We hold multiple events each year with interactive, hands-on activities designed to teach children the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Students learn about healthy meal preparation, nutrition tips, ageappropriate exercise, and recipes for tasty snacks and meals. IMPACT OC Impact Orange County (OC) allows our league to respond to immediate needs in the community by researching and implementing up to four “done-in-a-day” projects per month. The focused events fall with our focus areas of improving the health, safety, and education of all individuals in Orange County. Most recently, our league has teamed with Crittenton Services for Children and Families, Child Creativity Lab, and Down Syndrome Foundation for Impact OC events.
