Friday 12th December 2014 For up to date information and copies of all letters sent home, please view the school website at www.harrowbarrow.cornwall.sch.uk Well done to all our infant children for their recent performance of ‘A Magical Christmas Journey’. The children sang, danced and acted brilliantly and, more importantly, appeared to thoroughly enjoy sharing their talents. A lovely way to end the year and an opportune time for us to wish all our families and friends a very Merry Christmas. Tree-mendous! On Tuesday 2nd December Jennie, Mattie, Lewis and Tom walked up with Mrs Cocking to Rising Sun Nurseries to collect the Christmas tree. They all had great fun decorating it for Christmas. Mattie and Jennie even came back with branches in their hair to get into the Christmas spirit. By Jennie Request from music teachers If your child is off sick on the day they are due to have an instrument lesson, please contact Chris, Nilkki or Elisabeth directly to let them know. Club dates for your New Year diaries Clubs will start again from the week beginning Monday 12th January. The last week of clubs will be the week beginning Monday 16th March. Details of clubs to follow. Class 2 maternity cover From Monday 9th February Mrs Sarah Reid & Miss Jo Walker will be teaching Class 2. Mrs Reid, who currently teaches every Monday in Class 4 , will teach literacy and maths every morning. Miss Walker will teach the other subjects during the afternoons, except on Thursday afternoons, when Mr Hunt will be teaching. The governors are delighted to be able to appoint internally as these teachers are already familiar with the school, many of the parents and the pupils, ensuring a more seamless transition. Ho, ho, ho . . . or should it be go, go, go? On the 6th December Taran, Cadan, Emillie, Evie and their parents did the Santa sprint through Callington. It was for a charity called CHICKS and we all had to dress up like Santa, the beards were really itchy! Before the run we did a warm up and then we ran about a mile and a half. We all got a medal when we finished and some pasties and pies from Ginsters. Rebecca also competed in the Santa sprint and looks like she’s going so fast she is in danger of losing her Santa outfit! Curriculum Information for Parents From September 2014 our children have been learning from a new National Curriculum. To give parents some idea of what this looks like we have put the Skills Progression grids for the different curriculum areas on our website. For more information, please go to the ‘Parents’ drop down menu and select ‘Our curriculum’. To support the changes in expectations for pupil’s progress in maths, we have also created a Calculation Policy. This identifies the different steps children will take in the four calculation strands of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You may find this document helpful when supporting your child’s maths homework. The Calculation Policy can be found in the ‘Policies’ section of the ‘Parents’ drop down menu on the website. As ever, we welcome any feedback if you have found this helpful or otherwise. Today, As I strolled by I glanced at the prolonged grass Tall turf As sharp as envy But hiding behind elements Swaying in synchronization By the air Emotionless soldiers standing to attention Lonely and solitary Green like a tree, Only smaller, Standing wearily staring me back in the face Waiting patiently for the next command By Rupert Dates for your diary 16.12.14 - Junior concert at 7.00pm 17.12.14 - Junior concert at 2.00pm 18.12.14 - School Christmas dinner 19.12.14 - Christmas party day and last day of term 5.1.14 - First day of spring term
