worked in the hand rather than in a hoop. This project will teach you all the
key techniques required.

Christine P. Bishop
Hazel Blomkamp
Christine teaches over fifty different styles of embroidery and techniques from
beginners to master classes, and is an author of books and articles. She has

She keeps her classes relaxed, makes them fun and, in the process,
passes on her extensive knowledge of embroidery to her students.

preparation will be done for you, ready to begin the class.

Fantail
On a base of Japanese organza, several layers of tulle are laid
and embroidered, these layers overlap to create a wash of tone and texture.
Using similar techniques as water colour, this technique gives a light,
transparent appearance. The layers of organza give the impression that the
embroidery is worked on translucent water wave taffeta. This project will be
well on the way to being completed by the end of class.

Autumn in France
The inspiration for this gorgeous French landscape was a
painting by Paul Cézanne. The distant houses and ground cover have a
watercolor translucency by virtue of fine thread and delicate stitches.
The frontal plain presents a conversation of colour, tone and line which
is translated in different threads and textures. Couched cords, hand-dyed
threads and fibres create a mesh of trees through which the viewer can
observe the distant landscape.

Julie Graue
Nicola Jarvis
Julie has been interested in embroidery and smocking for as long as she can
remember and hardly a day passes that she doesn’t pick up a needle and thread.
A regular contributor to Inspirations and Australian Smocking & Embroidery
until it’s retirement in 2012, Julie also teaches in her home in Queensland.
She has recently opened a website of her designs, www.immyandme.com.
