Captive®, Flangeform®, Hex Press Nuts and ISC are self clinching fasteners
that function by being pressed into thin sheet material.
When pressed into sheet metal these fasteners become integral to their application,
therefore eliminating problems associated with loose hardware. In addition, self clinching
fasteners provide added value by saving time spent during initial assembly processes,
as well as improving time efficiency during servicing in the field.
Typical applications for self clinching fasteners are automotive components, domestic
appliances, computers, electronic devices, vending machines and enclosures.
Captive®
Captive® offers a broad range of high quality self
clinching fasteners, including nuts, studs and standoffs.
Flangeform®
Flangeform® offers high strength attachment points,
particularly in thin and pre-finished sheet materials,
combined with exceptional resistance to bending
movement.
Hex Press Nuts
Hex Press Nuts provide a maximum thread reinforcement
in thin sheet metal and other synthetic materials. They offer
a quick and simple assembly procedure that eradicates
the need to weld or rivet.
ISC
ISC Press Nuts are ideal for lightweight products as they
provide a maximum thread reinforcement in low strength
applications.

Captive® Technical Data
Captive® Installation
Captive® Self Clinching Fasteners are pressed into a hole in sheet metal by applying a
steady squeezing force. This results in the cold flow of the sheet material, which is displaced
by the knurl, into the undercut area on the shank of the fastener. Once fully embedded, the
knurled area prevents torque out during the tightening of the mating part.
Captive® Broaching Fasteners are pressed into printed circuit boards and non ductile
materials and held permanently in place by an interference fit. Both self clinching and broaching
types withstand high push out and torque out forces.
Captive® Weld Nuts are self piloting when locating into holes; additionally they are round
eliminating the need for indexing. Furthermore, pilot shanks protect threads from weld splatter.

Galvanic Corrosion
Galvanic corrosion can occur where two dissimilar metals are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte.
Where metals cannot be exactly matched, a coating such as zinc will help to minimise the area of contact.
The following table is a general guide to the possible effect of corrosion on a fastener body when it is
in contact with various components.

Flangeform™ High Strength Captive Fastener
• Flangeform™ offers high strength attachment points, particularly in thin and
pre-finished sheet materials, combined with exceptional resistance to
bending moment
• Flangeform™ features metric thread, a flat head and external splines that provide
excellent torque resistance (HT range available for extra torque resistance)
• Flangeform™ is installed with one simple blow. The pre-pierced material is located
over the spring loaded mini-die pin and sits on the lower part of the taper. The press
ram descends causing the Flangeform™ to create a plunged hole. At the bottom of the
stroke the nut opens out forming itself around the parent material’s hole, resulting in
Flangeform™ forming an integral part of the component
• Ideal for use in mild steel, aluminium or pre-finished material no thicker than 3.2 mm
• Especially suited to multiple insertion and automatic assembly in progression tooling
• Available material Steel EN ISO 10263-2
• Available coatings include Zinc & Clear chromate, RoHS compliant Cr6+free
• Flangeform™ can be installed using a mini die tool, intended for predefined material
thickness or a hydraulic/eccentric press. Highly efficient feeding equipment is
also available for automation

• Hex Press Nuts provide a fully loadable thread in thin sheet metal and other synthetic
materials from 1 mm thick
• Hex Press Nuts offer a simple, quick assembly procedure that removes the need to
weld or rivet
• Hex Press Nuts have an inclined serrated collar that provides a safe seating in the
material and prevents the nut from being torn out axially and from being turned in
a clockwise direction
• Features metric thread, hexagonal grip and a tapered collar with diagonal grooves
• Available material Steel EN ISO 10277-3:1999 (please enquire for Stainless Steel)
• Available coatings include Zinc & Clear chromate, RoHS compliant Cr6+free.
