This large expanse of open water is an important wildlife
site for breeding and wintering birds, butterflies, insects and
plants. Using the public footpaths, you can walk to Newtown
Linford or make a circular route via Groby village.

A traditional market town with a whole host of vibrant

jewellery, numerous specialist shops and an indoor market

The town’s central feature is the Memorial Clock Tower,
which commemorates those that lost their lives in both world
wars.

With quaint courtyards, traditional tea rooms and gorgeous
gift shops, Ashby is a lovely stop-off. There is a daily indoor

‘De la Zouch’ was added to the town’s name in 1160 when
Norman nobleman Alain de Parrhoet La Zouch became Lord
of the Manor.

Tour the impressive ruins of this grand medieval manor house
set in extensive grounds. Explore the secret kitchen tunnel used
during the siege, climb the 24 metre-high Hastings Tower and
enjoy superb views over the surrounding countryside.

Ashby Museum
From Albert Village Lake you can enjoy a range of circular
walks from 1 ¾ miles to 5+ miles. The routes are easy to
follow using the special CONKERS Circuit markers with
spectacular views, bird spotting sites, newly planted woods
and peaceful trails.

Swadlincote
Burton-upon-Trent is famous throughout the world for the
production of beer, with a brewing heritage stretching back
to the middle ages.
It has three shopping centres with all the top high street
names, restaurants, cafes, an excellent arts centre and lovely
walks along the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal.

National Brewery Centre
The pottery of Swadlincote and South Derbyshire was
internationally important and traces of this industry are still

are available from the Tourist Information Centre.

special bus fares and vouchers for attractions – giving you even

The hourly 9a bus service runs from Leicester∆ via Coalville, Ashby
de la Zouch and Swadlincote to Burton upon Trent and calls close
