Formica® Brand
Laminate
Formica Corporation celebrates
individual expressions with
distinctive products for every surface.
Laminate
Formica® Brand Laminates are available in an exciting selection of colors,
patterns and textures. Perfect for vertical and horizontal surfaces where high
style and high performance are in high demand. Durable, flexible, colorful and
affordable. That’s the allure of Formica Brand Laminate.
Solid Surfacing
Formica® Solid Surfacing is ultra-smooth and ultra-versatile. Choose from classic
solids or nature-inspired patterns. Formica Solid Surfacing is made from a single
homogenous material so color and pattern are continuous from top to bottom.
It’s stain resistant, and easy to care for, even under heavy use. Formica Solid
Surfacing brings an elegant feel to any application from countertops, bars and
table tops to windowsills. Formica Solid Surfacing – its beauty runs deep.
Quartz Surfacing
Formica® Stone natural quartz surfacing provides high-end results and top-shelf
performance. Unlike real stone, Formica Stone is nonporous making it resistant
to stains, chemicals and scratches. With warm, natural stone and rich jewel
granite looks to choose from, you can add distinction to any application. Tables,
counters, bars and desks take on a new dimension of quality with Formica Stone
natural quartz surfacing.
Wood Surfacing
Formica Ligna® wood surfacing takes the beauty of the forest and makes it
flexible and unique. It’s made from natural woods but offers more patterns,
shapes and colors than Mother Nature herself. Formica Ligna wood surfacing
is designed to coordinate with other Formica brand surfaces. Punctuate walls,
embellish corridors, and inset desks, headboards and cabinet fronts for a look
that’s always luxurious. Formica Ligna is the natural way to elevate any design.
Decorative Metal
Formica DecoMetal® boldly brings Formica Brand Products into the design
future. Modern, luxurious designs can glimmer with the metallic glow of gold,
brass, zinc, copper, aluminum and steel. Available in a breadth of patterns from
funky to formal. Cover a concierge desk. The possibilities are endless. Formica
DecoMetal is metal made easy.

Meet the Exclusive Finishes
from Formica.
MicroDot Finish
We’re proud to present two new,
exciting finishes for woodgrains
and solid colors, plus classic designs
inspired by the original colors.
MicroDot takes solid colors to a new dimension. In
response to a growing trend toward adding texture
to solid color and adding geometry to design, we’ve
created a finish that adds a dose of modernity to
solid color. MicroDot is ideal for spaces that need
color and texture to become design elements in their
own right.
And Reacquaint yourself with our Classics.
Naturelle Finish
Naturelle rises from a global trend away from glossy
wood finishes and toward a softer, dry-wax look.
Naturelle features a fine ticking feature giving a
natural, rich wood appearance. The finish is ideal
for office furniture, retail spaces, business and bank
buildings, hospitality and healthcare facilities or
anywhere a truly natural wood look is desired.
Classics Collection
Classics are back by popular demand.
Boomerang in the original colors has been a
common request from designers working on diners,
restaurants and residential kitchens. It is back in
4 historic colors that recapture kitchy-cool. The
beloved VirrVarr, a European pattern that means
criss-cross in Swedish, suddenly has new appeal with
modern designers in search of classic Euro design.

Study in style.
Academic libraries are host to some serious study.
The same pursuits that build brainpower tend to be
tough on surfaces. Formica® Brand Laminate offers
our exclusive Naturelle Finish, which features an
embossed wood texture with a natural, rich tone
and a waxed wood feel. It holds up handsomely
under the rigors of research. Durability meets
distinction. Naturelle finish wins the approval of
the educated eye.

Use & Care
Formica® Brand Laminate and ColorCore® surfacing
material are designed for beauty and durability.
Like any surfacing materials, however, they can be
damaged by abuse and carelessness. When you
use them where recommended and care for them
properly, they will give you years of satisfaction.
Trademark and Copyright Information
Before selecting the surface
material, consider the type
of use it will receive, as well
as its texture, color, and
reflective values. A roughtextured surface has different
advantages, depending upon
use, than a smooth-textured
surface. High gloss finish
laminates for example, are not
recommended for use in heavyduty applications such
as countertops.
Scratch and Impact Protection:
Formica® Brand Laminate and ColorCore® surfacing
material are resistant to scratches and impacts under
normal use conditions. Use cutting boards, chopping
blocks, or other protective surfaces.
A) Do not chop, slice, pound, or hammer on any
laminate surface.
B) Knives or other sharp utensils may slice or scratch
the surface.
C) Heavy blows from a hammer or meat tenderizer
may crack or gouge the surface.
D) Use place mats, doilies, and trivets on laminate
surfaces when necessary.
Ceramics and abrasive objects can cause scratching
and premature wear — do not slide these items
across surface.
Follow recommendations for cleaning — do not use
abrasive cleaners, powders, steel wool, sandpaper,
or Scotch-Brite® scouring pads
(see Cleaning section to the right).
Hot Objects:
Cookware still hot from the stove or oven, as well
as electric skillets, waffle irons, curling irons, and hot
rollers, etc., should not be placed directly on laminate
surfaces. Prolonged exposure to temperatures of
140°F (60°C) or higher may cause the laminate to
separate from the core material.
Avoid ironing or placing a hot iron on laminate
surfaces. Do not place lighted cigarettes directly on
laminate surfaces.
Use a trivet, insulated hot pad or other protective
device beneath all hot cookware, heat generating
appliances, or other heated objects. Formica® Brand
Laminate and ColorCore® surfacing material can
withstand heat up to 275°F (135°C) for short periods
of time.
Ordinary Cleaning:
Formica® Brand Laminate and ColorCore® surfacing
material are very easy to clean.
A) In most cases, you only need to use a clean,
damp, non-abrasive cotton cloth and a mild liquid
detergent or household cleaner.
B) Rinse with clean water, using a clean, nonabrasive cotton cloth.
C) Do not flood the laminate, especially near
seams, since water can penetrate and cause the
substrate to swell.
D) Dry the surface with a soft, clean, non-abrasive
cotton cloth.
Cleaning Specific Finishes Type:
For specific types of surfaces, use the following
care guidelines. Sculptured and Dimensional Finish
Laminate: These surfaces may require special
attention to clean the depressed areas. Use a nylonbristled hand or vegetable brush, along with a mild
liquid detergent-and-water solution or household
cleaner. Clean the soiled area, using a rotating
motion. Rinse and dry the surface as indicated.
High-Gloss Finish Laminate:
If residual streaks and smears remain after normal
cleaning, use a mild glass cleaner and then dry with
a clean, non-abrasive cotton cloth.
Chemical Damage:
Never use cleaners containing acid, alkali, or sodium
hypochlorite. These cleaners will mar, etch, corrode,
and permanently discolor the laminate surface. Also,
make sure that bottles, rags, and other materials
contaminated with these cleaners never contact the
laminate surface. Examples of cleaners containing
acid, alkaline, or sodium hypochlorite include, but are
not limited to: drain cleaners, rust removers,
coffeepot cleaners, metal cleaners, tub and tile
cleaners, chlorine bleach, oven cleaners, toilet bowl
cleaners, lime scale removers, ceramic cooktop
cleaners and some countertop cleaners.

Environmental Awareness
Formica Corporation is an
environmentally responsible
company that has active
programs underway in all areas
of environmental management.
The following information
summarizes the efforts of
Formica Corporation in the areas
of raw material management,
solid waste management and air
pollution control.
Raw Material Management
Formica Corporation uses stainless steel plates
to impart surface on the majority of laminates it
produces. This process replaced a paper release
system, thereby saving thousands of trees per year
and conserving the energy resources required to
convert the trees into paper. In addition, by not using
release paper, Formica Corporation has reduced the
amount of scrap paper it sends to landfill by as much
as 80,000 cubic yards per year. Formica Corporation
uses water-based phenolic and melamine resins in
the manufacturing process. The wood used in the
manufacturing of Formica® Brand Laminate filler
paper comes from non-rainforest timber. Formica
Corporation has eliminated the use of heavy metals in
its decorative papers.
Waste Management
Laminate residues generated during the
manufacturing process are burned in Formica
Corporation power boilers.
This significantly reduces the amount of solid
waste sent to landfills and reduces the use of
non-renewable fuels such as natural gas and coal.
Formica Corporation composts 80% of the solid
waste generated at its Ohio facility. Sample chips
are recycled by Formica Corporation corporate and
distributor sales representatives. All current items are
recollated into new sample sets.
Air Pollution Controls
Formica Corporation controls particulate emissions at
all of its manufacturing facilities with control devices
that operate at 99% efficiency. Formica Corporation
has installed state-of-the-art equipment to control
Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions at
the Ohio and California facilities. Because of this
equipment and ongoing projects, VOC emissions
have steadily decreased over the last few years.
In recent years, Formica Corporation has replaced
solvent-based phenolic resins with water-based
phenolic resins, thereby greatly reducing VOC
emissions.
In summary, the management of Formica Corporation
believes it is our responsibility to help preserve the
environment. We will continue to make changes in all
areas of our operation, wherever feasible, in support
of this belief.
