Biodiversity Parks of Delhi, the proud landmarks of DDA
exemplify new age urban development in whole new
context. Unique destinations developed to restore the
pristine glory of the Yamuna River basin that was once
supported by rich and luxuriant ecosystems.
Development with greener shades
A key element of DDA's responsibility for the planned
development of Delhi, has been to ensure cleaner
environment for the citizens. Towards this, beside adding
greenery all around, DDA has pioneered the first of its
kind Biodiversity Parks in Delhi. With Yamuna Biodiversity
Park and Aravali Biodiversity Park, DDA has given Delhi a
precious repository of fresh air bringing back the
vanishing species of birds, plants and insects. These
Biodiversity Parks are also helping raise the ground water
level of the capital.
Treasure trove of knowledge
The citizens of Delhi have welcomed and embraced these
Biodiversity Parks with an overwhelming response and
enthusiasm. Crowds of visitors come every day to enrich
themselves of their natural splendour.
A dedicated team of professionals and volunteers with
devotion and concerted efforts have restored biotic
communities vanishing due to increased urbanisation.
More than 2000 species of plant and animals have been
brought back in the form of biotic communities in these
parks.
Aravali Bio-Diversity Park
Swarn Jayanti Park, Rohini
Yamuna Biodiversity Park Phase-I
Spread across 456 acres of land near Wazirabad village,
Yamuna Biodiversity park is located on the flat of alluvial plans of
the river Yamuna. The park is a biologically rich landscape of
grassland communities, a wide variety of fruit yielding species of
plants and a rich repository of medicinal herbs.
The park also nurtures native flora and fauna that existed a
100 years ago and then became extinct locally. Every visit to
the park is a heartwarming experience as one admires its
Forests, Wetlands and Grasslands, Bamboosetum, Medicinal
Garden, Ayurvedic Hut, Laboratory, Interpretation Centre.
Stretching across 692 acres of scenic landscape,
Aravali Biodiversity Park is located on South Central
Ridge near the posh Vasant Vihar colony of South
Delhi. The park provides a picture perfect landscape
and biodiversity for protection of the natural Aravali
ecology. To further enrich the ecology, the depression
area has been converted into Orchidarium, Fernarium
for educational interest. It has specialized parks like
Butterfly Park, Sacred Grooves, Medicinal and Herbal
Garden. Other attractions such Rock Garden, Cave
Communities, Interpretation Centre etc are also being
developed.
New Bio-Diversity Parks being developed
DDA will soon be adding more Biodiversity Parks to
enrich the environment of the capital. The upcoming
Biodiversity Parks include:
- Yamuna Bio-Diversity Park - Area Phase I - 63.56 Ha
Area- Phase II - 121.45 Ha
- Aravali Bio- Diversity Park - Area 279.35 Ha
- Northern Ridge - Area 87 Ha. approx.
- Tilpath Valley - Area 70 Ha. approx (Area surveyed)
- Neela Hauz - Area 3.90 Ha approx
- Yamuna River Front - (’O’ Zone) Total Area - 9770 Ha
Area available - 1452.10Ha

DDA Yamuna Biodiversity Park, Wazirabad
The Parks organise special training programmes for youth
and special interest groups to spread the idea of preserving
and nurturing nature in its pristine form.
