Afa

Avnil’s atmosphere is very thin with high levels of dangerous radiation, so Afa set up a radiation shield placed
around the mining colony and constructed underground facilities to process the ores
The mineral wealth of Avnil only lasted 500 years and Afa abandoned the planet and the humans he brought
there
In time, the Avnilians forgot how to maintain the radiation shield and the population retreated permanently into the
caves making the abandoned mines their homes
Afa and his Jaffa servants became the “bogeymen” of Avnil society and the Stargate was viewed with fear

Apophis’ newly matured Goa’uld queen
Took Daniel Jackson’s wife, Sha’re, as a host in the episode Children of the Gods
Conceived a Harsesis child with Apophis and returns to Abydos to have him during the episode Secrets. Daniel
Jackson arrives shortly before she is ready to give birth and convinces Sha’re to return to Earth with him. Shortly
after Daniel delivers the baby, Heru’ur arrives hoping to capture Amaunet and the child. Heru’ur is forced to
flee, Amaunet leaves with Apophis, and the child is hidden and remains safe on Abydos with Sha’re’s father,
Kasuf.
In the episode Forever in a Day, Amaunet wanted to protect her child by Apophis from Heru’ur and the System
Lords. Under the protection of Horus guards, she had come to Abydos to steal the child from Kasuf, and sent him
into hiding with her closest aide, on Kheb. Sha’re/Amaunet is killed by Teal’c in the end to prevent her from killing
Daniel.

An Egyptian mother goddess, called the "Hidden One". She is the personification of the life-bringing northern wind. She
belongs to the Ogdoad of Hermopolis. Within this group of gods her consort is the god Amun. She is referred to as 'the
mother who is father' and in this capacity she needs no husband. Amaunet was regarded as a tutelary deity of the
Egyptian pharaohs and had a prominent part in their accession ceremonies. She is portrayed as a snake or a snake-head
on which the crown of Lower Egypt rests.

Amentet was originally the place for the setting sun but with time she became the hostess in the next
world. She took care of the dead and guided them to their new homes and supplied them with food and
water. She personified the world beyond - "Land of the West" - Amenty. From her shelter in a tree at the
desert edge she had a good view over the gates to the underworld. Her looks were of a woman with a
falcon, an ostrich feather or the sign for "west" (picture right) on her head. She was linked to the main
goddesses an occasionally she could have wings. Her parents were Horus and Hathor and she
represented the setting sun.

The Egyptian warrior and hunter god, the personification of the royal warriors. As the champion of Egypt, he hunted and
slew the enemies of Re. His consort is the lion goddess Mekhit. The center of his cult was the city of Thinis in Upper
Egypt. He is portrayed as a bearded warrior wearing a long robe. On his head he wears a headdress with four tall plumes
and in his hand he holds a lance.
His Greek form is Onuris, derived from the Egyptian anhuret, which means 'he who brings the far near'. Anhur is also

A major goddess of fertility, sexual love, hunting and war. She was known among the Canaanites in prehistoric times.
From the fertile agricultural area along the eastern Mediterranean coast, her cult had spread throughout the Levant by the
middle of the third millennium BC. Around the beginning of the Phoenician period (circa 1200 BC) Anat enjoyed a
significant cult following. She was quite prominent at Ugarit, a major religious center, and appears frequently in Ugaritic
literary works incorporating mythical elements, in deity and offering lists, and in votive inscriptions.

Anat (Anath, Rahmay - 'the merciful') - Ba’al's sister, daughter of El. Goddess of war, the hunt, and savagery.
She is an archer. Virgin, sister-in-law (progenitress?) of peoples (Li'mites'?). She and Athirat are nursemaids to the
gracious gods.
She restrains Ba’al when he intends to attack Yam's messengers. In missing texts, she killed Yam-Nahar, the
dragon, the seven-headed serpent. She also destroyed Arsh, Atik, Ishat, and Zabib, all enemies of Ba’al.
She holds a feast at Ba’al's palace to celebrate his victory over Yam. After the guests arrive, she departs her
abode and adorns herself in rouge and henna, closes the doors and slaughters the inhabitants of two nearby towns,
possibly Ba’al's enemies. She makes a belt of their heads and hands and wades through the blood. She lures the towns'
warriors inside to sit and joyfully massacres them. She then makes a ritual peace offering and cleans up. This is possibly
related to a seasonal fertility ritual welcoming the autumn rains. Anat receives messengers from Ba’al thinking that some
new foe has arisen, but they assure her that he only wishes that she make a peace offering that he might tell her the
secret of lightning and seek it on Mt. Zephon. She does so, demanding first to see the lightning, and is welcomed by Ba’al
from afar. Hearing him complain of lack of a proper mansion, she storms off to El, creating tremors. She threatens to
mangle his face lest he heed her and have Ba’al's court constructed, yet her plea is rejected. She is assisted in her
petition by Athtart. She accompanies Ba’al to Athirat with a bribe and assists Athirat in her successful petition to El for
Ba’al's court.
After Ba’al dies, she searches for him and, finding his body goes into a violent fit of mourning. She has
Shapash take his body to Mt. Zephon, where she buries it and holds a feast in his honor. After seven years of drought,
she finds Mot, and cuts, winnows, and sows him like corn.
She attends the feast where Daniel presents Aqhat with a bow and arrows set made by
Kothar-u-Khasis. Desiring the bow, she offers Aqhat riches and immortality, for it. He refuses and so
she promises vengeance upon him should he transgress and leaves for Mt. Lel to denounce him to El.
Upset with El's response, she threatens to strike his head, sarcastically suggesting that Aqhat might
save him. El remarks that he won't hinder her revenge, so she finds Aqhat, and taking the form of a
kinswoman, lures him off to Qart-Abilim. Unsuccessful with her first attempt there, she calls her
attendant warrior Yatpan to take the form of an eagle, and with a flock of similar birds pray strike Aqhat
as he sits on the mountain. They do so and Aqhat is slain, unfortunately, the bow falls into the waters
and is lost and Anat laments that her actions and Aqhat's death were in vain.
A very old goddess from the nomad society for fertility, sexuality, hunting and war. She originated from
the Syro/ Phoenician coasts and was imported to Egypt in the late Middle Kingdom. In dynasty 17 she
became a member of the Theban pantheon as wife of Anedjti but other deities like Hathor, and
Nephthys put her in the shadows.

Originally an underlord of Apep during the First Goa’uld Dynasty (19,000 B.C.)
As Apep declined, Anubis became his most trusted advisor while he secretly built his forces on the planet of
Sekh’Pa, his original homeworld prior to his first banishment
He set a dynamo up beneath the earth of a moon orbiting Sekh’Pa that draws electrical current from the planet
creating a static charge that will take out any powered device by draining it of energy
In 17,500 B.C., Anubis finds out the secret location of a great cache of Ancient weapons from Apep by forcibly
exposing Apep to Thoth’s rudimentary sarcophagus
From the cache he creates a “super weapon”, he forcibly removes Apep’s symbiote and eats it.
After 100 years of war, Anubis is banished by Ra and others at the end of the First Goa’uld Dynasty.
In 8,721 B.C. he returned at the head of an army promising to defeat the Asgard once and for all, only to be
defeated again by Ra. The symbiote was removed from the host and cast out into space.
It was during this time, that Anubis learned how to ascend. However, the others prevented his ascension but
could not send him back all the way so he is still part energy.
His physical form is a mass of energy and his “skin” ripples with the fluidity of a Stargate’s event horizon
The artifact The Mask of Anubis provides his body with necessary cohesion by amplifying and focusing his will
into physical reality. It also makes him invulnerable to damage inflicted by both energy and kinetic force.
He retains a lot of the knowledge that he gained during his ascension and that he had from his genetic memory
prior to his ascension
Upon his return 2 years ago, he worked through lesser Goa’uld such as Tanith, Osiris and Zipacna quietly
bringing about the destruction of Tollana and wreaking havoc on the System Lords in a series of devastating and
mysterious raids and guerilla warfare type attacks
Since his return, Anubis has returned to Sekh’Pa in his mothership that is shielded from the dynamo and static
field. He uses the strongest of the planets inhabitants for his ongoing genetic research
In the episode Between Two Fires, Anubis’ underlord, Tanith blackmails the Tollans into making weapons for
Anubis; eventually, Anubis attacks the world of Tollana when they refuse to attack the Tauri and lays waste to the
planet’s only city
During his attack, Anubis targeted fault lines, volcanoes, and other hot spots in an effort to destroy life on Tollana;
since the bombardment has ended, he maintains a strong military presence in the ruins of the city—hundreds of
battalions of his Jaffa and dozens of death gliders
It is revealed during the episode Summit, that Anubis has returned. During Last Stand, Osiris acts as Anubis’
representative and asks for Anubis’ reinstatement as a System Lord.
In return for his reinstatement, Anubis promises the destruction of the Tauri. In an effort to keep his promise, he
sends a naquadah-enriched asteroid in the path of Earth In the episode Fail Safe. His plan is thwarted by SG-1.
In the episode Revelations, Anubis manages to capture and interrogate Thor and Thor’s knowledge is
downloaded into Anubis’ mothership computers. SG-1 manages to rescue Thor’s body and Anubis flees before
the might of 3 Asgard vessels.
Anubis’ mothership, with Thor’s consciousness in the on-board computers, crashes into the Pacific in the episode
Descent and SG-1 manages to recover Thor from the ship’s computers.
In the episode Redemption Part I and Part II, Anubis uses an Ancient weapon to hold open the Tauri stargate and
send minute amounts of radiation through in the hopes of overloading the stargate and destroying Earth. Anubis’
weapon is eventually destroyed by Rya'c, son of Teal’c.
Later, Anubis attacks the Tok’ra base in the Risa system and sends an Ashrak through the stargate to the Alpha
Site to sow descent and discord among the rebel Jaffa and the Tok’ra who evacuated there in the episode
Allegiance.
Anubis then manages to accumulate the six Eyes of the Gods and recreate his super weapon that was used to
destroy Apep
In the episode Full Circle, Anubis’ true nature is revealed. It is also revealed that he has all of the Eyes which
together power an Ancients’ super weapon that Anubis used in 17,500 B.C. to destroy Apep. Eventually Yu
unites all the System Lords and they attack but the combined fleet is easily destroyed and pushed back by
Anubis’ powerful weapon. It is at this time that Anubis destroys Abydos and the Abydonians ascend to a better
place.
In the episodes Fallen and Homecoming, Anubis’ super weapon is destroyed but only after Anubis has captured
Jonas Quinn and extracted all his knowledge with the same device the System Lord used on Thor. The
remaining forces of Lord Yu then attack Anubis’ disabled vessel, but not before Anubis escapes again in an
escape pod.

Anubis recovered portions of the Book of Thoth which included Telchak’s original design for a sarcophagus and
has genetically engineered his own army in the form of super soldiers.
In the episodes Evolution Part I and Part II, it is revealed that Anubis did, in fact survive the attack by Yu and
returned to his homeworld to create a breed of Goa’uld super soldiers based on some of the information he
gained from Jonas Quinn. In the end, it is discovered that Anubis has thousands of these super soldiers and the
future looks extremely grim unless the SGC and the Tok’ra can find a way to stop them.
During the episode Death Knell, it is revealed that Jacob and Samantha Carter have designed a weapon capable
of fighting Anubis’ super soldiers.
He is currently in a race with the Tauri in the hunt for the Ancient’s Lost City
Anubis uses the long abandoned space station Amun Station to meet and plot with his underlords

Anubis, who the ancient Egyptians called Ienpw (phonetically "Yinepu"), is the mysterious canid
funerary deity of ancient Egypt. Even the meaning of his name is unknown -- speculations range
from "Royal Child" to having derived from the world for "to putrefy". Both certainly fit the deity, who
was at various points in time of Egyptian history known as the lord of the dead before Osiris and,
later, became popularly known as the son of Osiris.

Anubis took care of the cemeteries and was the son of the solar god Re. Later he was connected
to the vast Osiris cult and conciered as his son with the goddess Nephthys. Depicted as a jackal
or a man with a jackal's head, he was originally a god from Abydos in Upper Egypt. He guided the
deceased to the next life via the court of Osiris in the Underworld. He was the god of embalming
and was the subject of the mortuary prayers in funerals. His fame was constantly on top during all
periods of the long Egyptian history.

An Egyptian monster living in perpetual darkness. This snake god is the chief of the antagonists of the sun god Re and
each night he tries to stop the sun god's barque on his journey through the underworld. In the struggle between light and
darkness, the monster is wounded by the divine entourage of Re with knives and spears. The god Seth and the god
Mehen were often depicted defending the solar barque.
Apep is the personification of darkness, evil, and chaos. Occasionally, the battle was decided in his favor, causing a solar
eclipse, but his victories were of short duration for Re always triumphed in the end. Eventually, Apep was slain by Re, who
cut up his body and burned it. The Greeks referred to him as Apophis.
The gigantic serpent Apep was the symbol of all devilries that fought the
sun god Re every day and tried to stop his journey in the sky. He dwelt in
the cosmological waters chaos or was hiding below the surface of the
Nile. On cloudy days the Egyptians were afraid that Apep had won and
they made extra offerings in the temples. Texts describing rituals how to
overthrow Apep have been found and everyone took part in the chase,
even the wicked god Set who was seen depicted when spearing him in
Re's solar boat when he was jumping up from the water. Though he was
defeated every day he rose every morning in strength, ready to fight
again.

Origins unknown: perhaps spawned by Isis or Ra’s progenitor; whispered that he may even be Apep himself
Actually cemented Ra’s rule during the Second Goa’uld Dynasty by soundly defeating the upstart Sokar; his
actions made a millennia-old enemy that would eventually help bring about his defeat at the hands of the Tauri
He was a very brutal ruler on Earth and at one point Ra sent Hathor, in the guise of Sekhmet, to put him down
and it is said the “Nile ran red with blood”.
It is believed by some that Apophis’ cruelty is one of the reasons the Tauri finally rose up to overthrow the Goa’uld
Rose to power and became a System Lord during the Third Goa’uld Dynasty
One example of his brutality is the attack and enslavement of the Unas on K’kaa; after killing billions of the
moderately advanced citizens, he enslaved them to mine the naquadah and then abandoned the now primitive
society
He built a fortress on Chulak where he began keeping a supply of hosts; captured humans were sent through the
Stargate and kept there for Apophis’ future needs
Amaunet was originally carried in a Jaffa that he captured in a raid on one of Heru’ur’s worlds; the Jaffa claimed
that the symbiote she carried was a Goa’uld queen
Seized control of a large number of worlds after Ra’s death in 1995 at the hands of the Tauri
In 1997, he finds a cartouche of Stargate addresses left by Ra and begins a sweep of lost worlds seeking
technology, hosts, and treasure
In this way, he arrives on Earth and then on Abydos during the series premiere Children of the Gods in order to
find potential hosts for his new queen, Amaunet. Eventually, he takes Sha’re for Amaunet’s host. It was at this
time that he is betrayed by his first prime, Teal’c.
Leads a hunting party to the Nox homeworld to capture Fenri in the episode The Nox. There Shak’l, his new first
prime, is killed.
In the episode Cor-ai, it is revealed that Cartago is one of the planets where Apophis would come to hunt for
hosts; and that at that time, Teal’c was his first prime and was ordered to kill one of the villagers; at the end of the
episode, Jack and Carter return to Cartago to find it under siege by Apophis’ serpent guards; with the help of
Teal’c, they drive the Jaffa away
Together with Klorel, Apophis leads an attack on Earth in Within the Serpent’s Grasp and The Serpent’s Lair. The
attack is unsuccessful leading to the destruction of two of Apophis’ motherships. He and Klorel escape at the last
moment in an escape pod.
During the episode Family, Apophis kidnaps Rya'c, Teal’c’s son and brainwashes him in an effort to draw Teal’c
back to Chulak and bolster his failing reputation.
Creates a forbidden Harsesis child with Amaunet. He intends eventually for the child to be his new host.
In the episode Serpent’s Song, it is revealed that Apophis was captured by Sokar and tortured. He managed to
escape and in hopes of destroying Earth along with himself, he claims “cal mah” or sanctuary and SG-1 takes a
dying Apophis back to Earth. Eventually, he dies and his body is given to Sokar in an effort to save Earth from
Sokar’s wrath.
Sokar banishes Apophis to the moon Netu where Apophis sets himself up as Bynarr’s first prime. At the end of
the episode Jolinar’s Memories, he reveals himself as the presumed dead Apophis to SG-1.
During the episode The Devil You Know, he replaces Bynarr as ruler of Netu taking Kintac as his first prime. He
tortures SG-1 and Martouf using the Blood of Sokar in order to get information that he can use as leverage with
Sokar. His plan goes awry when SG-1 escapes and Sokar and Netu are destroyed. At the last moment, he
manages to escape to Delmak.
Apophis takes over Sokar’s fleet and then attacks and destroys Chulak in an effort to find the Harsesis child.
Failing to find the Harsesis, he begins to build an advance class of battleship on PX9-757. The battleship is
destroyed in the episode Upgrades.
At this time, Apophis and Heru’ur control the two largest fleets among the system lords. Apophis and Heru’ur
agreed to meet in order that they could discuss an alliance. During the meeting, the Tauri and Tok’ra set off one
of the mines, Apophis assumed Heru’ur did it and subsequently ended up destroying Heru’ur presumably killing
him during the episode The Serpent’s Venom.
During Exodus, Tanith manages to relay the location of the Tok’ra base on Vorash to Apophis and Apophis sends
his fleet to attack. In an effort to destroy Apophis’ fleet, the Tauri send the gate into Vorash’s sun and open it up
to a planet with a black hole causing the sun to go supernova.
The resulting supernova destroyed 12 of Apophis’ ha’tak vessels
In the following episode, Enemies, the Tauri mothership and Apophis’ vessel are sent to an uncharted section of
the galaxy. When SG-1 comes out from the protection of a gas giant, they find Apophis’ ship adrift with no life

signs aboard. Teal’c returns aboard a transport, but he brings Apophis and he replicators with him. Replicators
take over the ship and boost the hyperdrive returning the ship to the world of Delmak. SG-1 sets the ship to crash
into Apophis’ homeworld destroying both Apophis and the replicators as they escape with an injured and
brainwashed Teal’c.
As of Season One, Apophis holds the balance of power on Chulak
Bra’tac was First Prime of Apophis before Teal’c and Teal’c was once Brat’ac’s apprentice
After Teal’c betrayed him, Apophis appointed Shak’l as his first prime
After the destruction of Bynarr on Netu, Apophis appointed Kintac his First Prime, but Kintac was killed in the
resulting explosion of Sokar’s ship and Netu while Apophis escaped
Arrived at Earth long before Ra and used the original Earth gate (Antarctic gate) to stage attacks against Ra from
Earth
Apophis set a temporary base of operations up at Antarctica, moving the gate there in order to ensure that Ra’s
forces wouldn’t come to Earth
Once Ra discovered and traced the location of the attacks, Apophis quietly gathered up his forces and gated to a
safe location, leaving the Antarctic gate to sink into the ice of the Antarctic glacier

role with their sister Anath. Astarte is also known as Istar in Akkadian and Athtar in

fertility, love, war and sexual vitality and to that end had sacred prostitutes. She was the Phoenecian great goddess and
was identified with Aphrodite by the Greeks. She restrains Ba’al when he intends to attack Yam's messengers. She
rebukes Ba’al for holding Yam captive and calls on him to 'scatter' Yam, which he does. Apparently she, along with Anat,
is willing to become Ba’al's cup-bearer once he achieves a proper palace.

golden apples and Atalanta stops to pick them up, thus losing the race.
Atalanta is the female athlete in Greek myth. It is unclear exactly where Atalanta comes from, some sources say that she
came from Arcadia and was the daughter of Iasus and Clymene, but Hesiod and other sources attributes Atalanta's origin
to Boeotia where her father is Schoeneus. The contradiction over Atalanta's birth contributes to the assumption that there
were two mythic women that were merged into one person.
Whoever Atalanta's father was, he wanted a boy so bad that when Atalanta was born, he exposed her on a hill were she
was suckled by a she bear, sent by Artemis, until a group of hunters found her and raised her to womanhood. Atalanta,
like Artemis, loved to hunt.

wearing the double crown. He was considered the building block of all physical matter and was

the setting sun.

Also Asiel. A demon, which name probably derives from Azael, one of the angels
who revolted against God, one of the princes of the Watchers who descended to
earth to couple sexually with mortal women. The rabbis say that he is chained on
sharp stones, in an obscure part of the desert, awaiting the last judgment. Azael is
also named in the Hebrew Book of Enoch.
Aziel is said to be a guardian of hidden treasure. His description as having three
heads and serpentine fingers suggest an association with the threefold goddess
Hecate, the Greek deity of witchcraft and the underworld. The demon is also
described as being bearded, with a feminine body presenting breasts, a narrow
waist, and broad hips. This also indicates that the demon is androgynous. His
serpentine legs that end in fishy tails link him with serpentine monsters of the deep
such as Leviathan.

after the Tauri had destroyed his super weapon
Ba’al has now turned his sights on the naquadria on the planet of Kelowna; so much so that he planted a spy to
gain information and to speed up the process of mining and researching the naquadria.
This spy is revealed and actually aids Jonas Quinn, the Kelownans, and SG-1 in stopping the eventual
destruction of Kelowna in the episode Fallout
In a recent bid to further hinder Anubis’ advance, Ba’al has planted naquadah devices intended to saturate the
planet’s water table with radiation on the pastoral world of L’Kresha; this will effectively kill the ecosystem there as
well as the Kreshians before Anubis gets there
A planet that used to be in the hands of Sokar and that has largely been ignored by Ba’al, Atraxia, because when
L’Kresha falls to Anubis, Atraxia is next in line. Ba’al has been sending reinforcements there for quite some time

Ba’al is the god of rain, thunder, and lightening. "At the touch of his right hand, even colors wilt."
The worship of Ba’al extended from the Canaanites to the Phoenicians who also were partially an agricultural people.
Both Ba’al and his cohort Ashtoreth, or Astarte, who is equivalent to the Greek goddess Aphrodite, were both Phoenician
fertility symbols. Ba’al, the sun god, was fervently prayed to for the protection of livestock and crops. Priests instructed the
people that Ba’al was responsible for droughts, plagues, and other calamities. People were often worked up into great
frenzies at the prospects of displeasing Ba’al. In times of great turbulence human sacrifices, particularly children, were
made to the great god Moloch.
In the Bible Ba’al is also called Beelzebub, or Ba’alzebub, one of the fallen angels of Satan.

Ba’al (also called Ba’al-Saphon (Zephon), Hadad, Pidar and Rapiu (Rapha?) - 'the shade') - son of El, god of fertility, 'rider
of the clouds', god of lightning and thunder. He is 'the Prince, the lord of earth', 'the mightiest of warriors', 'lord of the sky
and the earth' (Alalakh). He has a palace on Mt. Zephon. He has a feud with Yam. His voice is thunder, his ship is a
snow bearing cloud. He is known as Rapiu during his summer stay in the underworld.
He upbraids the gods for their cowardice when they intend to hand him over to Yam's messengers and attacks
them but is restrained by Athtart and Anat. Kothar-u-Khasis gives him the magic weapons Yagrush (Chaser) and Aymur
(Driver). He strikes Yam in chest and in the forehead, knocking him out. Athtart rebukes Ba’al and calls on him to
'scatter' his captive, which he does. In a alternate version of this episode, he slays Lotan (Leviathan), the seven-headed
dragon. The battle may have been representative of rough winter sea-storms which calmed in the spring and which were
receded and accompanied by autumn rains which ended summer droughts and enabled crops to grow.
After his victory he holds a feast and remarks on his lack of a proper palace, instead retaining residence with El
and Athirat. He sends messengers to Anat to ask her to perform a peace-offering that he might tell her the word which is
the power of lightning and seek lightning on the holy Mt Zephon. She does so and he welcomes her. Hearing his
complaints Anat leaves to petition El for a new palace for Ba’al. Rejected, Ba’al dispatches Qodesh-and-Amrur to Kotharu-Khasis with a request to make a silver temple set with which to bribe Athirat. He and Anat view Athirat with trepidation
keeping in mind past insults which he has suffered at the hands of the other gods. He and Anat ask Athirat to ask El for
permission to build a more extravagant house and Athirat's request is granted. Gathering cedar, gold, silver, gems, and
lapis at Mt. Zephon, he calls Kothar-u-Khasis, feeding him and instructing him on how to build the palace. He doesn't
want a window, for fear of Yam breaking through or his daughters escaping, but Kothar-u-Khasis convinces him to allow
its inclusion so that he might lightning, thunder, and rain through it.
At its completion he holds a feast, takes over scores of towns and allows the window to be built. He threatens
to ask Mot to invite any of Ba’al's remaining enemies to come for a visit and at night, binds the lightning, snow and rains.
He sends Gupn and Ugar to Mot to invite him to acknowledge his sovereignty at his new palace. He sends messengers
to
Mot to carry this message to him and they return with a message of such weight that Ba’al declares himself Mot's slave.
He hopes to ameliorate Mot by having Sheger and Ithm supply live sheep and cattle for the god to feast upon. Fearing
Mot he seeks Shapash's advice and sires a substitute on a cow. He (or possibly his substitute) dies and remains in the
underworld for seven years. El dreams that he is alive again but he is absent. Ashtar attempts to take Ba’al's place, but
can not. Shapash searches for him. Ba’al returns and fights Mot's allies, the sons of Athirat and the yellow ones. After
seven years, Mot returns, demanding one of Ba’al's brothers lest he consume mankind. Ba’al rebuffs him and they fight
tooth and nail. Shapash separates the two declaring that Ba’al has El's favor and Ba’al resumes his throne.

In the Celtic-Irish mythology, Balor is the god of death and the king of the Fomorians, a race of giants. He was the son of
Buarainech and the husband of Cethlenn. Balor had only one eye, which he kept closed because anything he looked at
would die instantly.
According to some prophesies, Balor would be killed by his own grandson. He locked his daughter Ethlinn in a crystal
tower, to prevent her from getting pregnant. With the help of the druidess Birog, Cian of the Tuatha Dé Danann, managed
to enter the tower and slept with Ethlinn. She gave birth to a son, but when Balor learned of his existence he threw him in
the ocean. Birog saved the boy and gave him to the sea god Manannan mac Lir, where he was raised. The boy, named
Lugh Lamhfada (Lugh of the Long Arm), became a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann and led them in the second battle
at Mag Tuireadh.

The Egyptian cat-headed goddess, Bastet was strictly a solar deity until the arrival of Greek influence on
Egyptian society, when she became a lunar goddess due to the Greeks associating her with their Artemis.
Dating from the 2nd Dynasty (roughly 2890-2686 BCE), Bastet was originally portrayed as either a wild
desert cat or as a lioness, and only became associated with the domesticated feline around 1000 BCE. She
was commonly paired with Sakhmet, the lion-headed goddess of Memphis, Wadjet, and Hathor. Bastet was
the "Daughter of Ra", a designation that placed her in the same ranks as such goddesses as Maat and
Tefnut. Additionally, Bastet was one of the "Eyes of Ra", the title of an "avenger" god who is sent out
specifically to lay waste to the enemies of Egypt and her gods.
The cult of Bastet was centered in Bubastis (located in the delta region, near modern- day Zagazig) from at least the 4th
Dynasty. In the Late Period Bubastis was the capital of Egypt for a dynasty, and a few kings took her name into their royal
titles. Bubastis was made famous by the traveler Herodotus in the 4th century BCE, when he described in his annals one
of the festivals that takes place in honor of Bastet.

Old cat goddess known from inscriptions from the cemeteries at Abydos and Sakkara (Memphis) and
venerated in Bubastis, capital of the 18th province in Lower Egypt. She protected pregnant women
and was patroness for singing, music and dancing. The rays of the sun were also symbols of hers.
She could sometimes be seen as a woman with a cat's head, or as a sitting cat. She originally wore a
lioness' head and in depictions she can be seen as a cat with a mask of a lioness (with rounded ears)
in her hand. Thousands of mummified Bastet cats have been found from all times and amulets and
figurines depicting her were common. Her festival was very popular since she also was protector of
love, joy and pleasure. During the New Kingdom she had a lion-headed son with the god Ptah called
Maahes. He was a god of war.

The name of the Assyrio-Babylonian gods Enlil and Marduk. It has the same meaning as Ba’al.
The supreme god of pre-Islamic Palmyra, in ancient Syria, and the god of the sky. His name means "lord" or "master".
Together with the gods Aglibol and Yarhibol he forms a powerful triad. His attributes are the eagle and lightning bolts.

prosperity began, which became known as the "Golden Age"; a time when it was said that people lived without greed or

Hathor, as the Eye of Ra, "becomes" Sakhmet in the story "The Destruction of Mankind". Engraved into one of the shrines
of Tutankhamen's tomb, the story tells how Hathor, at the request of her father (Ra), turns into Sakhmet in order to punish
humans for transgressing against him. When she nearly wipes out all of humanity, Ra tries to stop her and, failing in that,
contrives to get her drunk, whereupon she immediately forgets what it was she was doing and goes back to being Hathor.
Hathor also appears as a minor character in "The Contendings of Horus and Seth". Her father (Ra) falls into a black mood
so Hathor sets forth to cheer him up. Removing her clothing, she dances around his throne until he smiles again.
An additional myth, sometimes called "The Distant Goddess", tells of how Hathor became angry with Ra and wandered
away from Egypt. Great sadness falls over the land and Ra, lost without his Eye, decides to fetch her back. However,
Hathor has now become a deadly wild cat who destroys all that approaches her, and so no man or god will volunteer to go
get her. Thoth eventually agrees to lure her back and, dressed in disguise, manages to coax the angry goddess to return
to Egypt by telling her stories. Back in her homeland, she bathes in the Nile and once again settles into her normally
gentle demeanor, but not before the waters turn red from the effort of cooling her rage. In some versions of this story it is
Tefnut, not Hathor, who wanders away from Egypt, and Shu, not Thoth, who brings her back.

The cow goddess Hathor protected music, dancing, love and had seven forms. Wife to the sacred bull
Buchis*. She and Horus protected the royal couple and she attended at the arrival of the dead king in
the afterworld. On her head (left) was seen her favorite musical instrument - a sistrum rattle. On top of
pillars she was seen as Heret - a woman's head (inserted left) with a cow's ears. In the Old kingdom
the pharaohs were often shown with Hathor at their side. Sometimes she was combined with Isis as

The name "Horus" is a general catchall for multiple deities, the most famous of whom is Harsesis (Heru-sa-Aset) or
Horus-son-of-Isis (sometimes called Horus the Younger) who was conceived after the death of his father, Osiris, and who
later avenged him. In all the Horus deities the traits of kingship, sky and solar symbology, and victory reoccur. As the
prototype of the earthly king, there were as many Horus gods as there were rulers of Egypt, if not more.

The oldest of the Horus gods is appropriately named Horus the Elder (Heru’ur), and was especially venerated in preDynastic Upper Egypt along with Hathor. In this very ancient form, Horus is also a creator god, the falcon who flew up at
the beginning of time. The pre-Pharaohnic rulers of Upper Egypt were considered "shemsu-Heru" or "followers of Horus",
and the original Horus is himself considered in some myths to be the brother of Seth and Osiris, second-born of the five
children of Geb and Nut (Osiris, Horus, Seth, Isis, Nephthys). Horus the Elder's city was Letopolis, and his eyes were
thought to be the sun and moon. When these two heavenly bodies are invisible (as on the night of the new moon) he goes
blind and takes the name Mekhenty-er-irty, "He who has no eyes". When he recovers them, he becomes Khenty-irty, "He
who has eyes". A warrior-god armed with a sword, Horus could be especially dangerous to those around him in his visiondeprived state, and during one battle in particular he managed to not only knock off the heads of his enemies but of the
other deities fighting alongside him, thus plunging the world into immediate confusion that was only relieved when his
eyes returned.

Horus (the Elder: Heru) was a sky and solar god from Upper Egypt and from before the unification
the personal symbol of the local ruling pharaohs to whom he also gave courage and protection.
Soon he became the common Horus (the Younger: Hor) and originated lots of deities (Harpakhrad,
Har-Wer etc.) who had wide spread cults all over Egypt. He conquered all evil (symbolically) by
defeating Set who had killed his father Osiris. His twin sister was Bast and he was sometimes seen
as a child being breast fed sitting in the lap of his mother Isis.

In Egyptian mythology, Imhotep was the architect, physician, sage, astrologer, scribe, and chief minister of the Pharaoh
Djoser, who reigned from 2630 - 2611 BCE. He designed the first pyramid (the Step Pyramid at Sakkara. The Greeks
equited Imhotep with their Asclepius.
Imhotep was a genius human that became a true god after his death in about 2600 BC. As chief architect under king
Djoser (third dynasty) he created the first monumental building in history made of hewn stone: the step pyramid in
Sakkara, still partly standing. Few written remains come from his own time and his background is not known. He was also
the prime minister, chief physician, high priest, a poet and a philosopher. He was worshipped for 2500 years as the god of
medicine. The Greeks and the Romans adopted his thoughts and it was wide spread. As the first child of god Ptah and
goddess Nut he brought to man the arts of healing and knowledge of medicine. He was also the protector of studies. He is
a young man dressed in a simple way sitting with his studying material on a throne. His tomb has not yet been found. It's
likely to be in Sakkara.

Ishtar was the ancient Summer-Babylonian goddess of love and fertility. She is often described
as the daughter of Anu, the god of the air. In most of the myths concerning her, she is described
as an evil, heartless, women who destroyed her mates and lovers. Her greatest lover was the
farm god Tammuz, who is similar to the Greek Adonis. After he died she went into the
underworld to retrieve him but her efforts were vain and she returned to the living world alone.
Ishtar (Ishhara, Irnini, Inanna) - She is Anu's second consort, daughter of Anu and
Antum, (sometimes daughter of Sin), and sometimes the sister of Ereshkigal. She is the
goddess of love, procreation, and war. She is armed with a quiver and bow. Her temples have
special prostitutes of both genders. She is often accompanied by a lion, and sometimes rides it.
The Eanna in Uruk is dedicated both to her and Anu. As Irnini, she has a parakku (throne-base)
at the cedar mountain. She loved Tammuz in her youth, although he spends half the year in the
nether world wailing. She loved a lion, a stallion, a shepherd, all of whom she required great
sacrifice from and abandoned. She loved Ishullanu a gardener who offered her fruit, but was
taken aback when she revealed herself to him, so she turned him into a frog.
After Gilgamesh cleans himself up, following his defeat of Humbaba, she asks him to
be her lover and husband, and offers him many gifts and the homage of earthly rulers and
kingdoms. She is rejected, both because of her godly nature, and as a fair-weather lover. Ishtar
asks Anu to send the Bull of Heaven to kill Gilgamesh, and he agrees.
She determines to go to the Underworld. She threatened to smash the gate and raise the dead so that they
would eat and outnumber the living unless the gatekeeper would open it for her. She holds the great keppu-toy (a
whipping top). She is allowed in by the gate keeper, who takes her through seven gates to Ereshkigal's realm. By
Erishkigal's rites, she is stripped of items of clothing as she passes through each of the gates: first her crown, then her
earrings, then her necklace, then her tudditu (breast pins), then her belt of birthstones, then her wrist and ankle bangles,
and finally her garment. While in the underworld, no creatures engaged in acts of procreation. She was kept in Egalgina
and brought forth by Namtar after being sprinkled with the water of life, and after 'His appearance is bright' has been
cursed. She is led back out through the gates, given back her accouterments, and released in exchange for Dumuzi
(Tammuz).

wife of Osiris. Possibly she was originally the personification of the throne (her name is
written with the hieroglyph for throne), and as such she was an important source of the
pharaoh's power. In the Hellenistic time Isis was the protrectress of sailors.

Isis from Lower Egypt stood for love, magic, motherhood, children, medicine and
peace. She was the oldest deity to survive almost unchanged through thousands of

wearing a long dress and her name simply meant "seat". A popular motif was her

more specifically, the area which either was contained by or contained the Abzu. (Kramer 1961 p. 76) In the prelude to
"Gilgamesh, Enkidu and the Underworld, Ereshkigal was carried off into the Kur as it's prize at about the same time as An
and Enlil carried off the heaven and the earth. Later in that same passage, Enki also struggled with Kur as and
presumably was victorious, thereby able to claim the title "Lord of Kur" (the realm). Kramer suggests that Kur was a
dragon-like creature, calling to mind Tiamat and Leviathan. The texts suggests that Enki's struggle may have been with

for forty years (probably 227 - 266 CE) and under his rule Tara flourished. He was famous for his wise, true, and generous
judgments.
Cormac owned the wonderful gold cup given to him by the sea-god Manannan Mac Lir in the Land of the Living. If three
lies were spoken over it, it would break in three; three truths made it whole again. Cormac used this cup during his
kingship to distinguish falsehood from truth. When Cormac died, the cup vanished, just as Manannan had predicted it
would.

his seat in Babylon. The gods honored him as king. He put blood and bones together as and made early man to bear the
work of the gods, as in Atrahasis. For Qingu's part in the war he was made to provide the blood for the creation of man.
He divided the Anunnaki and placed 300 to guard the sky, and six hundred to dwell in heaven and earth. He had them

Western (i.e., North African) colonies. Many scholars believe he is the source for the Greek Herakles (Hercules in Latin)
with whom the Greeks identified him.
Milqart (Melqart, Ba’al Tsur, Milkashtart?) - 'king of the city', the hunter, 'fire in heaven'. Patron god of Tyre. He
was the god of the Metropolis and of Tyre and Carthage's monarchies. His cult spread throughout the Mediterranean
region, but has not been found in second millennium sites. As with the Babylonian Nergal/Erra, he has been identified
with Heracles archetypes. Greek sources imply that he was a dying and rising vegetation god, and that he was
associated with the sacred marriage like the Sumerian god, Dumuzi. In an annual festival, he was burned in a ritual
cremation which may explain Elissa's manner of death. He also was associated with the sea and was pictured riding a
hippocampus.

Moloch (Melech, Malik, Milcom?, Melqart?) - Not explicitly found in the Ugarit texts, Molech is a bit of an enigma.
He shows up in the Old Testament in Leviticus 18 and 20, 1 Kings 11, 2 Kings 23, and Jeremiah 32. From that he appears
to be a god of the Ammonites - a region west of the Jordon - whose worshipers sacrificed children in fires at temples,
some of which were in the Valley of Hinnom, i.e. Gehenna, just south of Jerusalem. The Old Testament also names the
similarly spelt "Milcom" as a god of the Ammonites leading to the suspicion that they are the same god. Molech is
probably not the original name of the deity. There has been a good deal of argument as to whether Molech could be
identified with another foreign deity and which deity that would be, or whether "molech" was simply a term which referred
to child sacrifice of any sort. The Canaanite gods Mot and Melqart of Tyre, and the Mesopotamian god Nergal, whom I
believe is somewhere referred to as Malik-king, are a some of the prime candidates for being Molech.

Macha (also connotes "Crow") or Nemain ("Frenzy"). The Morrigan frequently appears in the ornithological

underworld and either he or his substitute is eaten by Mot. Presumably the sons of Athirat had some part in his death.
After seven years of famine, Anat seizes Mot, splits, winnows, sows and grinds him like corn. Ba’al eventually returns and
defeats Mot's allies. After seven years Mot returns and demands Ba’al's brother, lest he wipe out humanity. Ba’al rebuffs
him and the two have a mighty battle, but are separated by Shapash who declares Ba’al to have El's favor.

An ancient Egyptian god identified with the lotus, but he also personified some form of the morning sun. He is a son of
Ptah and Sakhmet or Bastet. Nefertem is usually represented as a man with a cluster of lotus flowers upon his head, but
sometimes he has the head of a lion. In the little faïence figures of him, which are so common, he stands upon the back of
a lion. He represents the sun-god in the legend which made him burst forth from a lotus, for in the pyramid of Unas the
king is said: "Rise like Nefer-Temu from the lotus (lily) to the nostrils of Ra" and to "come forth on the horizon every day."
Nefertem was a form of the sun god Re from Heliopolis in Lower Egypt. He was the god of the rising
sun. His parents were Ptah and Sekhmet. Other stories says he was the son of Bastet, or he had no
parents at all, having grown from a lotus flower in the Nile. He was seen like a man usually wearing
the lotus-crown or a single lotus sometimes with two small plumes on his head. His staff could also
be topped with feathers. His cult was performed in the homes where ordinary people worshiped him
and carried small statuettes of him as good luck charms. He could also be a lion and with his
parents he formed the "Triad of Heliopolis".

Her name means 'Lady of the House' it's thought to be referring to Osiris' Palace. Nephthys conceived
no children with her husband Seth. Her son, Anubis was conceived from a union with Osiris. It is said
that she tricked Osiris into this union by making him drunk, or by disguising herself as Isis. Fearing
Seth's anger, Nephthys hides the infant in the Delta marshes shortly after his birth. Seth murders
Osiris and Nephthys flees in fear. She finds her sister, Isis, and helps in the search for Osiris' body.
Nephthys tells her sister about the infant. During the search for Osiris, Isis finds Anubis and adopts
him. After finding the body of Osiris, she helps Isis embalm him. The two sisters turn into birds and fly
about mourning over the dead body. She is often rendered on the head of coffins, as Isis is rendered
at the foot, with long wings spread to protect the deceased.
Nephthys was said to master magic, was attached to the mortuary cult and had the entire desert as her domain. She was
a part of the cult of god Min, and was sister to Isis and Osiris. She was married to the evil Set and was usually called upon
as - "the lady of the house". She usually wore a long dress and on her head she had the sun disk with a house-like object
topped with a bowl. This last object could be alone on her head and makes it possible to single her out her from other
goddesses in similar clothing. She was a popular motif for artists and became very popular during the Greco-Roman
period.

Nu was the barrier separating the forces of chaos from the ordered cosmos in this world. The god Re was said to enter
her mouth after setting in the evening and travel through her body during the night to be reborn from her vulva each
morning. She also swallows the stars and have them reborn later. In the death cult she plays a part in the resurrection of
the dead; she is portrayed on the inside of the lids of the sarcophagi. The pharaoh was said to enter her body after death,
from which he would later be resurrected.
As sky-goddess Nut was portrayed as a naked woman covered with painted stars, held up by Shu. Thus she forms the
firmament above her husband Seb, the earth. Her fingers and toes were believed to touch the four cardinal points or
directions. The principal sanctuary of Nut was at Heliopolis.
Nut was the old sky goddess and wife (and sister) to Geb and mother to Horus the Elder, Set, Isis and
Nephthys. Often depicted blue and covered with stars and stretched out like the arch of heaven and
supported by her son Shu (above). She had a vase on her head and could be the cow of the sky, or a
sow eating up she stars in the morning and giving them birth in the evening. Every morning the gave
birth to Re seen as sun disk above a bewinged scarab (Kheper). People asked her to protect their
dead relatives, but she had no temples. One title of hers was: "She who has a thousand souls".

Osiris was the Egyptian god of the underworld, although he was also worshipped as a fertility,
resurrection, and vegetation god. He was married to Isis, a sky goddess. He was father to Horus,
the god of sky, and protector of the dead.
Osiris was killed by his brother Seth, who shut his body in a chest and threw it into the Nile,
where it washed up onto the shore and was trapped in a huge tree. The King Byblos turned it
into a pillar in his palace. Isis (who had been searching for her husband) discovered the trunk,
and retrieved the trunk and the body. While Isis was away, Seth found the body, and chopped it
up into many pieces, and scattered them throughout Egypt. Isis and her sister, Nephthys, found
the pieces and made wax models of them to give to priests to be worshipped. When they found
all of his pieces, they were so sad they wailed loudly enough for Re, the father god, to have pity
on them. He sent Anubis and Thoth to help. They mummified Osiris, and put his body in a lion
headed pier. Isis changed into a kite and fanned breath into Osiris.
He was not allowed to stay in the land of the living, and was sent to the underworld to serve as
king, and to judge the souls of the dead.
Osiris - king of the Underworld, was first a god of agriculture and nature. His origin is disputed and he first appeared in
dynasty five. In Heliopolis he was said to be son of Re and he represented the deceased king. Minor gods were taken into
his vast cult and many legends were told about him. The common Myth of Osiris is about his death (murdered by Set) and
resurrection. He was the chief judge in the court at the threshold to the next life, where all the dead citizens were trying to
come through to Paradise. He wore a white mummy-dress and was brother to Isis, Set and Nephthys.

Pelops was the son of Tantalus and the grandson of Zeus. When he was a boy, his father cut him into pieces, stewed his
flesh in a cauldron, and served him as a feast for the gods. The gods detected the trick and restored Pelops to life; a
single piece of his shoulder had been eaten by Demeter, and this they replaced with ivory. After his restoration, Pelops
was an even more beautiful young man than before; Poseidon fell in love with him and gave him a winged chariot.
Later, Pelops wooed Hippodameia, the daughter of King Oenomaus of Pisa. Oenomaus had decreed that any suitor might
carry Hippodameia off, but that he himself would pursue them and would kill anyone he was able to overtake. He had
already killed twelve or thirteen suitors this way. However Pelops (or Hippodameia in some accounts) persuaded
Oenomaus' charioteer, Myrtilus, to remove the linchpins from the king's chariot; Oenomaus was thrown from the vehicle,
became entangled in the reins, and was dragged to his death. Pelops then killed Myrtilus by throwing him into the sea,
either because he had tried to rape Hippodameia or because Pelops resented sharing the credit for success in the chariot
race. Myrtilus, as he was dying, cursed the house of Pelops, and this curse blighted the lives of Pelops' sons (Atreus and
Thyestes), and his grandsons (Agamemnon and Aegisthus).
Pelops subdued the area of Greece which became known as the Peloponnesus, and then returned to rule Oenomaus'
kingdom in Pisa. During the time of the Trojan War, the Greeks brought his bones to Troy because of a prophecy that only
by doing so could they conquer the city.

Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danae. Danae's father, King Acrisius, set Danae and her son
adrift on the sea because of a prophecy that Perseus would kill him. The two were taken in by
Polydectes, the king of Seriphus. Polydectes later conceived a passion for Danae, but was unable
to force his attentions on her because Perseus had grown into a redoubtable protector. To get rid of
Perseus, Polydectes sent him on a quest to bring back the head of the Gorgon Medusa, a snakehaired maiden who turned all who saw her into stone.
Perseus accomplished his quest with the help of Hermes and Athena. He went first to the Gorgons'
sisters, the Graeae, who had only one eye and one tooth which they shared among themselves.
Perseus took the eye and the tooth, and agreed to give them back only if the Graeae helped him in
his quest. They helped him acquire a pair of winged sandals, a wallet or satchel, and the cap of
Hades; the sandals enabled him to fly, the satchel was to carry the Gorgon's head, and the cap
conferred invisibility on its wearer. Wearing the cap, he approached Medusa, looking only at her
reflection in his shield, and cut off her head.

The Egyptian sun-god. Makes reference to the god Re
The most important of the Egyptian gods, the personification of the (midday) sun. According to the Heliopolitan cosmology
he created himself from a mound that arose from the primeval waters of Nun or out of a primordial lotus flower. He then
created Shu (air) and Tefnut (moisture), who in turn engendered the earth-god Geb and the sky-goddess Nut. Re was
said to have created humankind from his own tears and the gods Hu and Sia from blood drawn from his own penis.
The sun itself was taken to be either his body or his eye (the 'Eye of Re’). The center of his cult was from the very
beginning in Heliopolis, where he was also venerated in the forms of Atum (the setting sun) and Khepri (the rising sun)
and, in connection to the morning sun, as Re-Harachte. As Re-Atum he is the creator who gives light and warmth and
thus growth. Re was often combined with other deities to enhance the prestige of the latter, as in Re-Atum or Amun-Re.

Re was an old solar-god from Heliopolis and a mayor deity over all Egypt. He was travelling
over the sky in his boat every day with his life-giving sundisc. He stood for life, rebirth, children,
health, virility etc, and the myths about him are several. His cult was pushed forward during the
fifth dynasty when the pharaohs took the title - son of Re, and this should last to the very end of
Egyptian history. During the New Kingdom he was combined with Amon as Amon-Re and
Horus as Re-Horakhte. He was shown as a falcon-headed man with the sun disc upon his
head. In later times he got a wife - Ret, and she looked just like Hathor.

As goddess of war Sakhmet was often said to accompany Pharaoh into battle.

The ancient Egyptian god of chaos, the embodiment of hostility and even of outright evil. He is also a god of war, deserts,
storms, and foreign lands. As the god of deserts he protects the caravans which travel through the desert, but he also
causes sandstorms which bring him into conflict with the fertility god Osiris. The two are adversaries and in the Osiris
myths, Seth killed his brother and scattered the remains all over Egypt. Seth belongs to the Ennead of Heliopolis and is
the son of Geb and Nut (or Re and Nut). He is the brother of Osiris, Isis, and Nephthys, who is sometimes given as his
consort, although Seth is more commonly associated with the foreign, Semitic goddesses Astarte and Anat. During the
3rd millennium BCE Seth replaced Horus as the tutelary deity of the pharaohs, but the story of Osiris' murder gained
currency and Horus was restored to his original status. The war that followed lasted eighty years, during which Seth tore
out Horus' left eye and Horus tore off Seth's foreleg and testicles. Eventually, Horus emerged victorious, or was deemed
the victor by the council of the gods, and thus became the rightful ruler of the kingdoms of Lower and Upper Egypt. Seth
was forced to return the eye of Horus and was either castrated or killed. In other versions he went to live with the sun god
Re, where he became the voice of thunder. In the Book of the Dead, Seth is called "Lord of the Northern Sky" and is held
responsible for storms and cloudy weather.
Despite his reputation, Seth has some good characteristics. He protects the sun barge of Re during its nightly journey
through the underworld and he fights the snake-like monster Apep. On the other hand, he was a peril for ordinary
Egyptians in the underworld, where he was said to seize the souls of the unwary.
Seth was portrayed as a man with the head of undeterminable origin, although some see in it the head of an aardvark. He
had a curved snout, erect square-tipped ears and a long forked tail.
Set from Upper Egypt was a god of winds and storms who became an evil spirit who brought along
destruction and disorder. He was seen as a human with a head of an unknown pig-like animal, or
just as a pig or a black hippo. His other forms were: a crocodile or a man with red hair and eyes
wearing a red mantle since the Egyptians had bright red as a symbol of evil. His cult was by the
long desert routes and in dynasty two his name was in the king's title and supporters of his and
Horus possibly caused civil war. During the New Kingdom he gained high status as the god of war
and got temples of his own. He murdered his brother Osiris and was condemned to pull the sun
disc in Re's solar bark across the sky every day, forever. He could also be seen with a dog's body
and a pointing tail sometimes looking like an arrow.

Later he was associated with the sun-god Re and is then wearing the solar disc and the uraeus on his crocodile head. His
Greek name is Suchos.
Sobek was a crocodile from Faiyum who was born from the watery chaos when the world was
created. He embodied the physical strength of the king, and was bodyguard for many gods protecting
them from all evil and black magic as well. He stood for eternal time and in the pyramid texts he was
the son of Neith. At the end of the Middle Kingdom kings ruling in the Faijum wore his name. Later he
had a big cult at Kom Ombo, where his temple still stands. In some places he was equaled with Set
and with the sun disk upon his head he was a manifestation of Re, Sobek-Re.

The Egyptian god of the Memphis necropolis, and a funerary god. In the Old Kingdom, Seker came
to be regarded as a manifestation of the dead Osiris at Abydos in Upper Egypt. Also during this time,
he came to be syncretized with Ptah as Ptah-Seker, in which form he took the lioness goddess
Sakhmet as his consort. In the Middle Kingdom, the three were sometimes merged in the form PtahSeker-Osiris. As god of the necropolis, Seker is also the patron of the craftsmen who are put to work
there. He was associated with the manufacture of various objects used in embalming and in funerary
rituals.
He also played a prominent role at Thebes where he was depicted on the royal tombs. An important
annual festival was held in his honor at Thebes. The festival celebrated the resurrection of Osiris in
the form of Seker and the continuity of the Egyptian monarchy.

Ptah and was then said to have emerged from his divine creation. Later he joined the Osiris cult and made a triad with him

big head. His animal was the falcon and he was usually depicted as a man with a falcon's head and the white crown of

Surpanakha and cut her ears and nose. Surpanakha ran away to her brother

whether or not Kukulcan was just a variation of Chac.

Thoth was the god of wisdom, inventor of writing, patron of scribes and the divine mediator. He is most often represented
as a man with the head of an ibis, holding a scribal palette and reed pen. He could also be shown completely as an ibis or
a baboon.
As with most Egyptian deities there were many different stories regarding the parentage of Thoth. Many sources call him
the son of Re, but one tradition has him springing forth from the head of Seth. This latter story is reminiscent of the birth of
the Greek goddess Athena, who like Thoth was the patron divinity of wisdom.
Myths concerning Thoth show him as a divinity whose counsel is always sought. His most significant role is during the
battles of Horus and Seth. Thoth is a staunch supporter of Horus and his mother Isis, maintaining that Horus' claim to the
throne is just and the murderous Seth has no right to the kingship of Egypt. Elsewhere Thoth is a reliable mediator and
peacemaker.

underworld river, who fashions all things, she bore giant snakes with venom for blood, and cloaked dragons with a godlike
radiance yet with a terrible visage, for the war. She rallied a horned serpent, a mushussu-dragon, a lahmu-hero, a ugalludemon, a rabid dog, a scorpion-man, umu-demons, a fish-man, a bull-man, and eleven others underneath her champion,
Qingu. She gave Qingu the Tablet of Destinies to facilitate his command and attack.
Marduk came with his host to attack her. Qingu's strategy initially confuses him, and Tiamat tried to enspell him,
hurling jibes at him. She was rebuffed and incited into single combat with Marduk. She continued to cast her spell and
Marduk netted her, and threw a wind at her. She tried to swallow it and was undone - distended, shot, sliced in two and
cut in the heart. Her crushed skull heralded her death, and half of her skin was used to roof up the sky. Her eyes became
the sources of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

The "Jade Emperor" of Chinese mythology. He is one of the most important deities of folk religion and religious Taoism.
He personally determines all that happens in Heaven and on Earth, and for this purpose he has an enormous celestial
administration at his disposal. This administration is a faithful replica of the administration of the Chinese empire. At the
beginning of each new year, his subordinates ascend to his palace in Heaven and report to him. Depending on how well
those deities have lived up to their responsibilities, the Jade Emperor may promote them to higher positions or transfer
them to other departments.

Zipacna was a great giant in Mayan mythology, written about in the Popul Vuh, a compilation of Mayan myths and
legends. He was brother of Cabrakan and son of Vucub Caquix, the Great Macaw. These three were considered by the
gods to be the most arrogant of all at that time. They therefore dispatched the hero twins, Hun-Apu and Ixbalanque to slay
them. These two boys were the undoing of this great giant. The creation of the Pleiades star cluster is also attributed to
Zipacna.

Further research found the following:
Zipacna: Mayan Evil Mountain God, son of the Underworld God Vucub-Caquiz and the giant brother of giant Cabrakan.
He was extremely arrogant and nasty, and thought nothing of killing four hundred brave young warriors by sitting on them.
Okay, so they'd been sent by the Gods to kill him, but it's still a nasty way to go.
Zipacna came to a nasty end thanks to the hero-twins, who set a devious trap. They made an enormously juicy and
mouthwatering artificial crab and told Zipacna his dinner was ready.
While he was salivating over it, they chopped down a nearby mountain the way lesser mortals would chop down a tree.
And Timberrr! the mountain toppled and crushed Zipacna beneath its weight.
