The Sophomore Girls' Basketball team proved early on that success starts behind closed doors; they were told
from the beginning that they would be challenged mentally and physically, and they welcomed that chattenge
without hesitation. From the onset of the season, eadr player set her own perronal goals, and as the season
began to take shape, they bravely set the bar high for the team. Their goals included winning the Lake Forest
Thanksgiving Tournament, the Lake Zurich Winter Tournament, and the Prairie Divisionat Title. As the reason
came to a close, the Lady Cougars decided that they wanted to tack on one final goal-to reach twenty wins
and set a Sophomore Girls' school record. They did just that, finishing the season with a record of 22-,3. All
goals were met. Girls, congratulations on a great season, and remember to continue setting goals that seem to
be just out of reach! I'm proud of each and wery one of you.

The Freshman Girls Basketball teams enjoyed a magical season during the 20ll-12 basketball teason.
Thank you to our Varsity team for providing us with such excitement throughout the season, and all
the way to Redbird Arena. Both the A and B teams continued to progress and improve their
basketball skills throughout the season, resulting in a very impressive 12{ record in the conference for
the first time in our history. Perfect teammates, hard working and very talented, is how this group
will be remembered. Coach Nardini's B team enjoyed a v€ry successful season. They too, used our
great teammate philosophy, and hard work to finish a fantastic season. Highlighted by victories over
schools such as Warren, Grant and Wheeling. Not to mention a clean sweep of 3 games against our
friends over at Lakes. The A team used a couple of very nice win streaks including 12 in a row to end
the season. The girls have now experienced the grind of a long season and were very fortunate to
find out that hard work does pay off as they watched the victories pile up. Thank you for a
wonderful experience and good luck with the rest of your basketball career.

is always tough to see the season come to an end. You never get back the exact
version of that team. Hopefully, this team will have gained experiences and memories
that last a lifetime. This year's team was led by five seniors who knew their roles,
performed to the best of their abilities, and set great examples for our younger players.
Those memories include a dominating performance against Loyola Academy, a thrilling
last second win at Grant, and a come-from-behind win at home against Lake Zurich. This
team was a pleasure to coach and we look forward to more ruccess next season.

The 2Oll-2012 Sophomore Boys' Basketball team had an outstanding reason. The team took first
place at the Battle of the Ridge Tournament and finished with an overall record of 14-12. There
was never an opponent that this team felt they couldn't compete with. I am very proud of the
hard work and effort each player put forth all the way through the season. They competed each
and everyday and we continuously got better throughout the year. I wish you the best of tuck
with all of your future endeavors.

The 20ll-2O12 Freshmen Basketball Cougars were a hard working group dedicated to
learning the system and making themselves better every day. Freshmen sports can be difficult
as the athletes don't have much knowledge of how coaches will want to run the program.
This group quickly learned how much their coaches love defense and we saw great strides
throughout the year in their commitment to improving their defensive skills while gaining a
greater understanding of the dribble drive offense. Although accomplishments aren't
recognized on a large stage, this team was the champion of the Prairie division and sent a
mersage to their rivals of the next 3 years that they are to be taken seriously. This was a fun
group to coach and we look forward to seeing them grow not only as basketball players but
more importantly as young men over the next 3 years. Thanks for an outstanding year.

The winter season proved to be very successful for the VHHS Cheerleaders. In addition to cheering on the
Vernon Hills basketballteams, the cheerleaders also competed at local invitationals, the NSC Conference
Championship, the IHSA Sectional competition and the IHSA State Finals. The cheerhaders also hosted
their very first invitational in January. The event was a huge success and both teams finished very well.
Our JV team placed third overall in their division and Varsity finished ln overall in their division. The JV
team also participated in three other competitions this teason, placing very well among other JV teams in
their division. The Varsity team competed at four local invitationals, finishing in the top four at each one;
including a 2nd place and two ld place finishes. At our conference championships, the Varsity team finished
3d in the Prairie Division. Additionally, the Varsity team placed third at their Sectional, landing them a trip
to the State Finals. Twenty-five teams competed at State in the Medium division. The Vernon Hills Varsity
team finished 4th overall in the state; the highest finish in Vernon Hills High School Cheerleading history!
Congratulations to both teams on a job well done!
The cheerleaders also hosted a Jr. Cougar cheer clinic this teason, coaching almost fifty future Cougar
Cheerleaders ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade!
We are very proud of every one of our athletes!
As always, thank you very much to atl of the parents for your continued support of our program. We
have enjoyed being a part of the VHHS community and having the opportunity to work with your
athletes this season.

When our season began last June, we set out to reach our goal to place at JV Finals. We
have made incredible progress since our first performance at the 4th of July parade. After
which, we attended UDA camp at NIU where the girls learned rigorous routines and bonded
as a team. Throughout the season we have conditioned, improved technical and
performance skills, and learned to dance as a team. At the culmination of our season, we are
proud and able to ray that our goal was realized and our first JV Finals' Champion title was
earned. After four yearr of coaching with our Poms Program, I can confidently say that
between the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, the 20ll-2012 season is our best yet. Thank
you to everyone I had the opportunity to serve as coach over the past few years. I am
grateful and proud to have been a part of this incredible program.

with an incredible group of young future state swimmers! We have a very
dedicated group of strong nuimmers, including Freshmen: Nathan McAdams, Rob Williams, and Conrad Kocoi.
Sophomores: Sean Pinter and Danny Strohl. And Junior: Kevin Knapp. Expect these individuats and others to
be dominating the pool in the next few years. A lot of time was spent pumping iron and chiseling six-pack abs.
Each week we have nine grueling practices, working hard from start to finish. Over winter break, we spent five
to six hours a day at the pool and weight room to create swimming machines; often swimming around five
miles a
day. Our
record does not show how incredibty talented we competed against onJ of the best
conferences in the state. We are eagerly looking forward to these next few years as our swimmers are getting
bigger, faster, strongert
Coach Lueken
Our diving team had the most successful season in school history! We set very high expectations at the
beginning of the seaton and lived up to almost all of them. Every single diver had set one or more pR for 6dives and lldive meet scores. tn addition, we broke all 6dive and ll-dive records on both Varsity and JV.
There were also a feur times where the bbys were within 5 points of breaking the records as well. bn the JV
Level, in addition to placing ln in every dual meet, we were very successfut at the end of the season where
Grant Miller and Brad Rogers had an awesome l-2 finish at JV Conference. They finished within .6 points of
one another and far ahead of the rest of the field. Grant Miller also capped off an impressive searon by taking
the JV 6-dive and ll-dive school records. On the Varsity side, our record-breaking season continued. Senioi
Nathan Lightman stayed injury-free and placed 7th at Conference, 4th at Sectionals, earning his first berth to the
state meet where he finished 32nd. We also had our first Lake County Champion in diving when Atex Zuniga
took the crown in December. Alex continued his season in an impressive fashion by finishing 7tn at the
Hinsdale Diving lnvite, 3d at Conference, 2nd at Sectionals and ultimately l4th at State. He also broke our 6dive and ll-dive school records this year.

The 2011-12 JV season was an eventful one to say the least. We began the season with a roster of 30 boys
of which, many had never before competed in the sport of nr,rimming. Their learning curves took off and
by mid-season we were racing fast and refining our techniques to prepare for the championships. Our JV
guys had major time drops at every meet throughout the season and experienced personal improvement
in different aspects of the sport. Now the goal becomes to work hard during the off-season in order to
secure a spot on the varsity squad next year. Congrats on a tuccessful season.
