For the fifth year running we have provided a winner, from additional eligible series, with a race seat in a Sunoco sponsored GS V8 powered car in the 200 mile endurance race, which takes place on the Friday before the Rolex 24 At Daytona. 72 This year our congratulations go to our 2016 Sunoco 200 Challenge Champion Paddy McClughan, a talented 19 year old Radical Sprint racer from Ireland. He will race in the BMW Performance 200 race in the Sunoco liveried Mustang in January 2016 on the famous 31º banked road race course. The 200 race is the support race to the Rolex 24 At Daytona, held on the Friday before, and comes with all the excitement you would expect with such a big race weekend. Paddy McClughan had a very successful 2015 season in the Radical Sprint Championship, where he impressed out on track and kept himself at the top of the Sunoco 200 Challenge standings all season! Although he didn’t go on to win his Championship, he racked up vital fastest lap and pole position points, essential to winning the Sunoco 200 Challenge. Paddy has visited Daytona International Speedway before, as a spectator, but will now be looking forward to heading out in early January to the ROAR Before the Rolex 24 testing weekend at Daytona. Whilst out there he will get his first experience of driving on the oval circuit and 31 degree banking. After that, the Rolex 24 At Daytona race weekend will be the next stop for this young Irishman when he takes the wheel of the Sunoco liveried Racers Edge team Ford Mustang in the BMW Performance 200 on the Friday before the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Out in Daytona in January 2015 he delivered an impressive performance in Friday’s 200 mile race where he was driving the Sunoco liveried Chevrolet Camaro with team-mate, Dylan Murcott, and despite car issues they still finished 17th in class, not bad for a rookie! Just like the Sunoco Whelen Challenge, included in the Sunoco 200 Challenge prize is travel, hotel, the prize drive and a dedicated race suit. As well as that, 2016 Sunoco 200 Challenge Champion Paddy will also get the full ‘American experience’ with a race seat in an American muscle car! We support these series by being on site throughout the whole of the race weekend, including any official test days. Fuel is delivered to each competitor in drums and we collect any empties after the meeting has finished. Spare fuel is always available and unused, sealed drums can be returned. We test fuel samples on 76 site with our own FTIR infrared spectrometer, which produces a very accurate chemical graph of the fuel, which is compared against a reference sample. The advantages to a series of running a control race fuel are: • Our very consistent race fuels help protect engines from detonation worries and reduce component wear • Creates a level playing field for all the competitors • Removes the legal issues that teams or individuals can face when transporting large volumes of fuel • Forecourt petrol stations limit the amount of fuel that they will sell in cans. Although not enforced at all forecourts, this can make the collection of large volumes of fuel not only time consuming but difficult • We work closely with the series organisers to develop a range of joint marketing initiatives Anglo American Oil Company Ltd • +44(0)1929 551557 • www.aaoil.co.uk • [email protected] How we deliver fuel Official fuel supplier Some series prefer to leave fuel as a free choice for the competitors, but like the option to have our support at their events, for those racers who opt to use a race fuel. Our service operates in exactly the same way as a control fuel arrangement, apart from the fact that no testing is carried out and marketing support is reduced. Pumped service events We have been working within the historic market since 2004 offering a leaded fuel service with fuels available for sale by the litre. We are the official fuel supplier to a number of premier UK historic series, supporting all their UK events and selected European rounds as well. Competitors are free to source their own fuel, but an increasing number choose to use our service. Our fuels remove the need to use other octane or lead replacement additives, which can if over treated, cause misfiring. Our leaded fuels are all ethanol free. Pallet service For a limited number of series, we arrange to have all fuel orders delivered to the race event by pallet service, for the series themselves to take delivery and distribute amongst the racers. This works well for low volume events and removes the need for teams to transport their own fuel. FTIR sample test results Super Unleaded Batch No. 531 Sunoco RMR Batch No. 526 Home delivery Our biggest group of customers are those that order fuel by phone, email, internet or fax to our office. We are happy to send a single 25 litre drum or orders making up several pallets, using our hazardous transport partner, Clarke Transport, who operate a 3 day or next day service for any orders processed before midday. Sunoco_UK Sunoco UK AAOIL 77 British GT British GT Championship Record-breaking British GT season ends in dramatic fashion at Donington T he youngest-ever champion and crew, first female winner and a four-way title decider made for another vintage Avon Tyres British GT Championship campaign in 2015. 30-plus grids, a significant increase in GT4 entries and numerous potential overall race winners at the front suggested this year’s British GT season would once again be a hotly-contested affair. However, few could have imagined the drama and record-breaking achievements that would unfold across nine rounds and seven venues. Beechdean AMR proved it was possible to win on two fronts by claiming both class titles courtesy of Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam (GT3), and Jamie Chadwick and Ross Gunn (GT4). While the latter pairing wrapped up theirs in record-breaking style before the final round, Howard and Adam were forced to wait until Donington Park before prevailing in a drama-filled four-way championship decider played out live on Motors TV. GT3 The Beechdean AMR duo were far from favourites heading into the final round thanks to a 20s pit-stop success penalty for winning the previous race at Snetterton. But they were nevertheless grateful for 78 the opportunity afforded them by Marco Attard and Alexander Sims who had led from the second weekend of the season and missed out on a first chance to claim the crown in Norfolk. As it was the Ecurie Ecosse crew entered Donington’s decider just two points clear of Howard and Adam, 20 ahead of Oman Racing Team’s Liam Griffin and Rory Butcher, and 32.5 up on Triple Eight Racing’s Lee Mowle and Joe Osborne. All four crews had demonstrated the qualities necessary to win a title over the course of the campaign. Only a poor outing at Snetteron, where two uncharacteristic errors resulted in a total of just five points scored across both races, had blotted Attard and Sims’ campaign, which included victories at Rockingham and Brands Hatch. Meanwhile, a victory on the opening weekend aside, Howard and Adam had only a string of pole positions to show for their early season form before winning again at Spa and also prevailing in Snetterton’s weather-shortened second race. Griffin and Butcher also had to wait until Snetterton for their second win of the season but timed it perfectly to give themselves a chance at Donington, while Triple Eight’s sheer consistency and three podiums helped to keep Mowle and Osborne in the title hunt. Anglo American Oil Company Ltd • +44(0)1929 551557 • www.aaoil.co.uk • [email protected] British GT And so to Donington where the Oman Racing crew were first to fall by the wayside on race day when Griffin’s ambitious move on Mowle at The Loop resulted in his Aston Martin’s early retirement. Ecurie Ecosse followed suit soon after, Attard coming to blows with a GT4 car while recovering from an early spin before the resulting damage spat his BMW Z4 into the wall. With the battle-scarred Triple Eight BMW running third but unable to challenge TF Sport’s leading duo, the way was left clear for Beechdean AMR to overcome their pit-stop success penalty and secure the necessary points for finishing fifth to give Adam a first, and Howard his second, British GT3 Drivers’ crown. Other notable performers were TF Sport who recovered from a tough start to their British GT tenure to score a brace of pole positions, one victory (in the hands of Derek Johnston and Matt Bell) and four further podiums over the final four rounds with its pair of Aston Martins. Gilles Vannelet and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs were the fifth crew to win a British GT race outright in 2015 after triumphing at Silverstone during a one-off appearance with the Von Ryan Racing McLaren 650S. Barwell Motorsport’s Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen finished on the podium three times without scoring a victory but tended to suffer from bad luck, while the FF Corse Ferrari of Gary Eastwood and Adam Carroll came within a post-race penalty of winning the opening round at Oulton Park. The combined efforts of Attard/Sims and Minshaw/Keen helped Barwell clinch the Teams’ title, Ahmad Al Harthy won the Silver Cup crown and Howard the Blancpain Gentleman Driver Trophy. GT4 Beechdean AMR began 2015 as reigning GT4 champions and again proved the team to beat thanks to the combined efforts of Chadwick and Gunn, who ended the season as British GT’s youngest ever titlewinning driver crew. At 17 years and 95 days Chadwick also became the series’ youngest individual champion and first female to lift one of its crowns. The foundation of Beechdean’s success was built over the first half of the campaign with back-to-back victories at Rockingham and Silverstone. Those wins, allied to three further podium finishes in the opening six races, afforded the Aston Martin pair a relaxed run-in that culminated with them sealing the crown at a soggy Snetterton with one round remaining. That no other crew emerged as a consistent threat undoubtedly helped the youngsters’ cause, despite ISSY Racing’s Oz Yusuf and Gavan Kershaw frequently proving the faster combination in qualifying. Indeed, the Lotus Evora notched up six pole positions and won three times in nine rounds but failed to score heavily enough elsewhere to maintain the pressure on Chadwick and Gunn. The opposite could be said of Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson who pipped the ISSY crew to second in points at the final round following an ultra consistent campaign. The PMW Expo/ Optimum Motorsport duo won just once all year – on the opening weekend at Oulton – but were regular top-six contenders thereafter en route to second in the GT4 standings at their first attempt. Their Ginetta wasn’t the only G55 to secure a race win in 2015, though. Tolman Motorsport’s David Pattison and Luke Davenport won a thrilling race at Brands Hatch that owed much to the latter’s Sunoco_UK Sunoco UK combative second stint, while Fulvio Mussi – making his first British GT start in seven years – and Fox Motorsport co-driver Jamie Stanley triumphed in Snetterton’s rain-hit second race. Elsewhere, Chris Webster and Daniel Lloyd made it three wins for an Aston Martin Vantage in 2015 by claiming the final victory of the season at Donington Park. They might have missed out on the overall class championship but Yusuf and Kershaw’s speed was rewarded with the GT4 Pro/Am title, while Academy Motorsport’s one-three result at Donington helped them win the Teams’ crown. www.britishgt.com 2016 British GT Championship Calendar* Round 1.
