MATCH OF THE WEEK I VIADUCT FISHERY
POWERS TAKES
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Place booked for Maver Match This final
A head-to-head battle between two
commercial fishery experts ended
with up and coming star Andy Power
taking victory during the latest
Maver Match This qualifier at
Viaduct Fishery.
After drawing peg 105 on the prolific
Cary Lake, the Preston Innovations
Thatchers ace decided to use meat and
pellet short and down the edge on the
pole line and was rewarded with 17 carp
to double figures and eventually landed
a table-topping 158-0-0.
Despite executing his attack almost
perfectly, Andy was far from ensured
the victory thanks to a number of other
memorable performances, and it was
venue regular Ray Hayward that gave
him his biggest scare.
The local rod was the last of the
46-man field to weigh in from corner peg
132 on Campbell Lake and came
agonisingly close to causing an upset
with his 155-15-0 of pole-caught carp.
The victory means Andy will now line
up against a star-studded field at Larford
Lakes on August 20 and be in with a
chance of winning a cash prize of at
least £50,000.
“It’s fantastic to be in with a shot of
winning such a large prize and although
I know it’s going to be a tough event to
win, I’m looking forward to giving it my
best shot,” explained an elated Andy.
Oakfield Fishery (Mon)
Brook Lake (22 pegs)
Steve Johnson fished a long pole
and pellet shallow line to the
willow tree on his left to land 19
carp for 60-5-0, leaving Nick
Bryan on peg 1 opposite left
floundering in second on 23-2-8.
RESULT: 1 S Johnson, Acorn Angling,
60-5-0; 2 J Rogers, Frenzee/GOT Baits,
51-12-0; 3 M Giles, RS Baits, 46-7-8;
4 J Power, Willows; 5 N Bryan, The

Brook & Swallow Lakes (19 pegs)
This time it was the other end of
the Brook Lake that produced,
with Joff Rogers fishing at 17m
with corn at peg 16 to land carp to
9lb. He lost 25 fish, otherwise he
would have had more than 69-14-0.
RESULT: 1 J Rogers, Frenzee GOT Baits,

Ockenden Bait & Tackle (Fri)
Puddledock Farm (38 pegs)
It would be fair to say that Steve
James makes his presence felt on
the bank and he was less than
impressed to be ‘bitted out’ by
small carp on meat at peg 9 – but
he was happy to take the money
with a final tally of 141-12-0,
comfortably clear of Mark Hoye
who had 83-12-0.

Viaduct Fishery (Mon)
Dickie Carr set a new lake record
of 44-0-0 but fishery boss
Gordon Bullock predicted it would
not last long as the tench and
skimmers are putting on weight
every day and the big roach have
not started feeding yet due to the
early spawning.
RESULT: 1 D Carr, Drennan/Springlakes,
44-0-0; 2 G Bullock, Redbridge Terrapins,
29-8-0; 3 K Pack, Milo Bordon Angling,
27-12-0; 4 J Davies, Oakwood Angling,

Tyler’s Common
It was a very tight frame, with
corner peg 73 on the Lodge Lake
taking the honours for Terry
Bruton. Fishing long pole and
pellet down the margins the
Thatcher’s Tackle-backed angler
landed 16 carp to 15lb for a
129-14-0 top score. Just behind
was Anton Page with 128-5-0
taken on pole and pellet shallow
from Lodge peg 56.
RESULT: 1 T Bruton, Thatcher’s Tackle,
129-14-0; 2 A Page, GOT Baits, 128-5-0;

Campbell & Cary Lakes (35 pegs)
Tom Magnall broke the match
record during this Saturday open
as the Taunton rod landed 25 carp
from Cary Lake peg 94, where he
fished the long pole and 8mm
pellet shallow. He pinged in the
odd pellet to mug cruising carp to
well over 20lb, as well as taking a
few on the waggler for a grand
total of 319-6-0.
