MUSIC NOTES 1-12-16
My name is Janna Mudlin and I am your child’s music teacher at Gilberts Elementary.
I am writing to tell you about this year’s 1st grade music program! Your child will
participate in a grade level music program every year they attend GES. This year the first
graders will perform their program in February. The topic I’ve chosen for the first grade
program this year is called, “I Love My Family!
Our program will take place on Thursday, February 25th 2016. We will be doing
things a bit differently for this first grade program than in years past. Here at Gilberts we are
THRILLED that our music programs are so well attended by our students’ familes and
friends. However, we have not enjoyed knowing that so many attendees weren’t able to sit
down in a chair to watch the performance. So, we have decided to divide the classes into two
performances on the same evening. The two programs will contain the same musical
content, each lasting 30 minutes.
Mrs. Randl’s and Mrs. Cook’s classes will perform their program at 6:00 p.m.
(drop off students at 5:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room).
Miss Lee’s, Miss Stock’s and Mrs. Stumpf’s classes will perform their program at
7:30 p.m. (drop off at 7:00p.m. in the multi-purpose room).
Please mark your calendar with this date right away, as you will not want to miss this
performance! Furthermore, it is essential that all of our first graders are present for the
evening performance of our program. Public performance is part of the state standards
for music education. It is definitely an important experience that cannot be recreated. Not
only do these programs generate great memories, but they give your child a chance to shine!
Please plan ahead so that your child can participate.
Below is the cast list for the show so that you can see which children have speaking
parts. I asked each student by name if he or she wanted a speaking part, and each child
that said yes was able to get one. This means that if your child’s name is not on the list, he
or she specifically told me that he or she did not want a part. If your child has a speaking
part, the highlighted portion(s) to memorize will be coming home next week. Any work you
can do with your child on memorization would be greatly appreciated. Parts need to be
memorized by Tuesday, February 23rd. Please let me know right away if, for some reason,
your child will not be able to do his or her part so that I can assign it to someone else.
Heads up in advance, the students will be asked to wear blue jeans with a SOLID
black shirt on the day of the program. The shirt can be any style (I recommend short sleeves
because it gets hot on stage), but it should not have any writing or pictures on it.
The students began working on the music before our winter break. They are already
so excited to perform for their friends and family. I cannot wait to share this program with
you in February! The DVD order form is attached to this message! Please send your money
with your child BEFORE the morning of the show at the latest. Your child should give the
money to the gals in the office for safekeeping until the show. Please feel free to contact me
with any questions you may have. Email is the best way to reach me.

Birthday Book Club
Gilberts Elementary School
The Birthday Book Club enables students to help build our
school’s library collection by making a donation of a brand
new book in recognition of their birthday. Books may be
either hardcover or paperback and should be age
appropriate for elementary school.
If your child would like to donate a birthday book, please
fill out the information below and return it with your book
donation to the Media Center Library.
We will type a commemorative name plate to go in the
front of the book which will include your child’s name, age
and birthdate. We will also take your child’s picture with
his/her birthday book and post it in our Library. Your child
will be the first to check out the book. The book will then
be kept in our Media Center Library for all to enjoy!
If you have any additional questions, please contact the
Media Center Library at 224-484-5966.
Thank you for helping our Library grow!

Dear Families,
Over the past few weeks, Girl Scout Troop #847 has been making fleece
blankets and cat toys to donate to Anderson Animal Shelter in South
Elgin. However, we would like to do more for the animals in our
journey to be Agents of Change.
Please help us as we collect additional items from the shelter’s
WISHLIST including:
 Clean, gently used blankets and towels (no bed sheets,
pillows or curtains)
 Cat Toys
 Dog Toys
 Kongs (for treats and play)
 Canned cat food (especially Friskies turkey and giblets
flavor)
 Pedigree canned dog food
There will be a container located at the front of the school to collect the
donations from January 10th – February 15th, 2016. Troop #847 will then
deliver all of the items to the shelter.
With your help, we can bring much needed supplies and provide a little
bit of happiness to the animals.
Thank you!
