Are You An Anime Addict?
Branches Offer Anime Clubs For Teens
Do you love watching anime or reading manga? Maybe you’re sort of
interested or just wondering what all the fuss over Japanese animated
cartoons is about. Come to an Anime Addicts/Manga Maniacs meeting and
step into a world of fantasy and fun.
The Livingston Parish Library’s first anime club, Anime Addicts/Manga Maniacs,
started at the South Branch in October 2007 when youth services staff member
Nora Melancon noticed an interest in those materials at the branch. Melancon,
an anime lover herself, asked teens if they wanted to participate in a formal
club, and Anime Addicts was born. The Denham Springs-Walker and Watson

American cartoons like Disney. Anime is not like Disney at all because it
addresses deeper issues and goes further. I mean, you could have a character running

around that has a monkey tail and it’s perfectly normal. That’s anime.”
