LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Planning
If ever an event needed
meticulous planning, it is
your wedding. So much could
go wrong. From the classic best man forgetting the
rings - to discovering your
passports are out of
date a week before the
honeymoon. Careful planning
is absolutely essential.
As well as the importance of the budget in
planning, timing is crucial. It is no use anticipating
the wedding of the year and then realising you
should have booked the stretch limo months
ahead, not weeks. In the table below you will
probably be surprised at how early some
arrangements need to be made.

ur Perfect Wedding Venue!
Kim Wilson and Mark Wilkie from Barrow-in-Furness were introduced 4 years ago. “Mark’s sister thought we’d make a
good match and she took it upon her self to act as cupid. After her match making we met for drinks, had an instant
connection and hit it off immediately.”
“We had discussed getting engaged but nothing had been set in stone. Until one evening when Mark had secretly given
the ring to our 10 month old son and hinted to me “ what’s Lucas got in his hand?” when I looked I saw the ring box.
I was over the moon and said yes!”
The couple held their civil ceremony at St Michael & Holy Angels Church in Pennington, and their reception at the Newby
Bridge Hotel. “The Newby Bridge Hotel has a fantastic feel to it and the gardens and scenery are stunning, the perfect
setting for our special day. They took care of the catering, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, the chip butties had
vanished within minutes.”
“Our cake was fantastic, we decided on a chocolate cake from Cake Crusader in Barrow. The cake was made up of three
tiers in the shape of hearts with chocolate flakes around the sides and covered in Belgian chocolate icing.”
Thank you to the staff at the Newby Bridge Hotel for
all your help in the run up to and throughout our
special day. Between the classic feel of the hotel, the
stunning gardens and the gorgeous food we really did
find our perfect wedding venue.

WEAR
The wedding dress is probably the single most important item most brides will think about
when they start visualising their wedding day.The choice of styles is vast these days, brought

there really is no substitute for getting out there and doing the legwork (which is part of the
fun anyway!)
Don’t forget
you need to
co-ordinate all
the accessories
(shoes, veil etc)
and the
bridesmaids’
dresses to the
same timeframe
as your fabulous

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Ceremonies
Many hotels are licensed to hold civil
ceremonies, so you have a great choice of
romantic options (and it means the wedding
and reception can be in the same place,
simplifying transport considerations). If you
decide on a church wedding, the venue is
ready to add sparkle to your special day, so
all you have to do is choose.
When organising your wedding reception
there are a number of elements that you
need to think about: Firstly, you will need to
consider how much of your budget you
want to spend on the actual reception.
Normally one of the major expenses is the
meal: caterers usually charge per head, so if
you don't have a large budget you may want
to consider having a buffet instead. Make a
list of how many guests you wish to invite
and then work out how much money you
will need to spend on food and drink.
The venue is extremely important and there
is an endless variety from which to choose.
You will need to take into consideration
whether it will suit the style of your wedding,
whether it is traditional, or contemporary
and also think about its proximity from the
wedding location.
14
AND RECEPTIONS
You will need to work out how many people
you will be inviting and whether the venue
can accommodate them, and most
importantly how much it will cost to hire the
venue in regards to your budget?
Whether you decide on a country mansion,
hotel, restaurant, golf club, park, or hall you
will need to book well in advance, especially
if your wedding is going to be during the
peak wedding season, such as a Saturday
during the Summer months. Confirm all
arrangements in writing and check that the
prices given are final.
Decorating the venue can be done in many
ways, again depending on your budget
allocation, but some of the simplest and
most effective are flower arrangements,
balloons and lighting. You can hire people to
do it for you, at a price, or you can ask
friends and family to help out and do it
yourself. Balloons are always a great way to
decorate your venue: choose a colour that
matches the theme of your wedding.
If you are having tables at your wedding, you
could always add a centrepiece to make
them look more attractive.
You can buy centrepieces from any wedding
shop or you can create your own. It is a
good idea to check beforehand that the
management is happy for you to decorate
the venue yourself. They might have
decorators willing to do it for you.
Finally, you need to decide on what
entertainment you want to provide your
guests with: do you want a live band or a DJ?
Musicians usually have their own style of
music that they are most comfortable with,
so check that they play something that you
like and that it is suitable for your wedding
reception. If you have a DJ, you can give him
or her a list of songs that you wish to be
played and also ask them if they take
requests, as I'm sure a lot of your guests will
like to choose some songs that they want to
hear as well.
Always remember to have a back up
plan as your entertainer may be ill or
cancel at the last minute, so always be
prepared if something goes wrong.
15
16
It’s going to be the most magical day of your life and you need a lovely venue, with excellent food, discreet and
caring service, and a country setting for photographs.

At The Longlands we will help you create exactly the wedding reception you want – it may be reassuringly traditional
or something a little different.

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Outside
CATERERS AND CAKES
Whatever your budget, both hotels and outside
caterers will be able to offer expert advice on
various options to make every penny count,
ensuring the festivities are worthy of the occasion.
When choosing a caterer, remember to seek
recommendations from family and friends. It
is difficult to judge the standard of service on
offer just by looking at brochures. Caterers
can usually supply table linen, crockery and
cutlery. They can also provide drinks. If the
caterers are supplying the drinks they may
only charge for bottles opened. If you are
providing the drinks they may charge a little
extra to serve them.
The caterer should visit the site of the reception
to decide what further equipment and facilities
they will need to provide. For a small buffet they
will bring the food already prepared and may
only need washing up and coffee making
facilities. For a larger event the caterer may need
to bring a cooker and a fridge.
Most caterers will clear away afterwards.
Discuss with the caterer when the clearing
away will be done and if serving staff will be
required after the meal to serve drinks.
20
Also, ask if a member of staff will act as Master
of Ceremonies and if they can organise the
cutting and serving of the wedding cake.
Symbolically, the cake is one of the most
important elements of the day, with pride of
place at the reception, being admired by
everyone and then cut by the newlyweds
together. According to tradition it represents
fruitfulness and fertility and is said to bring
good luck to all that eat it, so it needs to be a
delicious creation as well as looking wonderful.
These days wedding cakes come in all shapes,
sizes and colours, and you can be as creative
as you like. From dazzling detail, to simple chic,
choose something that’s stunning edible art.

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Event
If you don’t want all the
attendant stress of having
to sort everything out
on your own, why not
use a wedding planner?
They will take the weight
off your shoulders and
do all the legwork, so that
the wedding is tailored
to your individual needs
and requirements without
you having to lift a
finger (well, almost!)
If you are considering using a wedding planner,
most people wonder whether they can afford
one? Each wedding occasion is unique and the
amount of research and detail required varies
enormously. It is therefore difficult to tell you
how much the fees will be until you have talked
to a wedding planner and established everything
you require and how much your budget is.
22
ORGANISERS
Typically, there is a management fee that can
vary from around a few hundred pounds
upwards, plus an hourly rate (but remember
that a wedding planner should be able to save
you money, so you could well find that the
savings they make for you more than cover
the cost of their services!).
What type of duties can you expect from a
wedding planner? Well they should be one of
a facilitator, mediator, money manager, artisan
and constructor of dreams. However, if you’ve
ever been a bride, a groom, or even a
bridesmaid, you also know the kind of stress
involved with planning a wedding. Add to the
above description therapist, sounding board
and even punching bag, figuratively of course,
when frazzled nerves come into play.
When choosing a wedding planner, you ideally
want someone with the following skills: firstly,
they must be able to remain calm in the face
of adversity. Of course, he or she must be
personable and, as mentioned earlier, a good
negotiator. They are the mouth-piece for the
bride and groom when it comes to ordering
flowers, hiring a band and photographer,
finding a caterer etc.
They must be able to get them the best
service for the lowest price - and their
reputation will depend on it. They should
have good connections with suppliers of a
wide range of wedding services, but should
also be able to recommend people who you
like as well. That’s not all - they will be
handling your money and that requires them
to be adept at handling finances as well as
being very well organised and capable of
paying attention to detail.
A wedding planner must have a good fashion
sense. He or she should know about colour,
music, and flowers. A good knowledge of
religions is also imperative, since a wedding
ceremony is often a religious one. Related to
this, is a knowledge of customs and traditions,
which are also part of many wedding
ceremonies. They should also read the
current bridal magazines, of which there are
many, to keep up with the latest trends.

Jewellery
Engagement Rings
Bridal Tiaras
If you are planning to buy your "special lady"
a diamond engagement ring, you will want
to pay close attention to the following
universally agreed rules on buying diamonds
as you are about to purchase a permanent
symbol of the most important relationship
of your life.
Tiaras and headbands are and probably always
will be the most popular hair accessory. So,
how do you decide which one is right for you?
The Four C’s
When buying an engagement ring made
with a diamond, familiarise yourself with the
"Four Cs" – cut, colour, clarity and carat.
Also consider the fifth c – cost! Obviously,
how much you spend is a personal matter.
The most important piece of advice is buy
something that she will like. Look at the
jewellery she already owns. Also, how does
she react to other women's engagement
rings? Does she ever express an interest in
a particular style when flicking through
magazines? Or, speak to her girlfriends and
female relatives - if you can trust them with
your secret!
A good jeweller will allow a man to buy the
ring he thinks will be right and then return it
to choose the correct one or get the size right.
The Wedding Rings
where to start?
Wedding rings come in many different styles,
metals, settings and of course, prices - the
choice is endless. The key is to choose a ring
that reflects your individual style and taste.
Other important factors to consider when
choosing a wedding ring are your budget
and lifestyle. Couples should buy the finest
quality ring that they can afford as this will
always stand the test of time better than
anything else.
Choosing the metal is a very important
decision as it will affect the cost and the style
of the ring you choose.Traditionally, there are
platinum, white gold and yellow gold.
Alongside this, more modern options are
Tungsten Carbide and Palladium, more hard
wearing options for the men
The jeweller you choose will offer you all the
help and advice that you need, as well as
years of experience. Remember this choice
is very important as they will need to last a
lifetime.
24
Bridal tiaras, known as the 'princess of
headpieces' come in many shapes, sizes and
designs, so much so that it can be difficult to
choose between them. Below are a few
things to think about:
• Consider your face shape. If you face is long,
avoid a tiara altogether as it will make your
face look even longer. If you have a round
face, a taller tiara can have a slimming effect.
• They work with any hairstyle, but be
careful as huge tiaras can look odd if you
have really short hair. The best all round
hairstyle for a tiara is the half up-do.
• Bear in mind your dress! A simple dress
requires a simple headpiece and vice versa.
• Don’t be afraid to glam it up with a
rhinestone, pearl or gemstone encrusted
headband.
• Headbands are perfect for outdoor or
beach weddings as they help keep the hair
out of your eyes.
• Bridal headbands work with any hairstyle.
Other Wedding Jewellery
Strapless dresses usually suit rounder shaped
necklaces whilst a v-neck looks better with
pearl pendants and drop necklaces. Consider
the beading and embellishments on your
dress. If you have a lot of detail at the top of
your gown, try no necklace or just a simple
necklace.
Bridal Headbands
If your wedding dress has beaded detailing, try
to match the detail of your wedding jewellery
to this. Don’t shy away from long chandelier
earrings, but consider your hairstyle as they
could get caught. Simple stud earrings are a
good alternative.
Bridal headbands are the most functional
option. Suitable for all wedding types, they fit
flat to the head and are available in many
different styles. Keep in mind when shopping:
Don’t forget your bridesmaids’ jewellery!
Why not give them a necklace and earrings
set as a thank you present for their help and
being a part of your special day.
• The most important point to remember is
to choose a tiara you feel comfortable in.

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Photography
In years to come, your
wedding photos will be
a wonderful keepsake,
and a way of bringing
happy memories of the
day back into sharp focus.
It is therefore crucial to
get the right photographer
for the job, so make sure
you see plenty of examples
of their work.
You could freeze- frame it! Still-life pictures can
record special wedding day details and capture
a mood. The photographer could, for example,
snap your dress on the hanger, your old
sneakers tossed next to the wedding shoes,
the bridesmaids' bouquets resting on a table,
place cards lined up, and so on.
Each photographer will have his or her own
style, so you need to ensure that it fits with
your vision of the event. Early booking is
essential, as the best photographers are in
demand, and when talking them through your
day, make sure you are clear about the kind of
shots you do and don’t want.
Had you thought of getting a parting shot?
Ask your photographer to get the-party’sover pics - perhaps a final look at rose petals
scattered on the grass, or a lone cleaner
sweeping up the now-deserted dance floor?
Standard poses, such as the wedding party
line up, or the cutting of the cake are always
very nice, but you could always try and make
your album unique by doing something
creative and different!
26
Or, you could have a fun photo corner.
Ask your photographer to set up a backdrop
to create an open photo booth at the
reception, so your guests can have portraits
taken in small groups. Be sure to get two sets
of these proofs - one for you to send to each
guest with your thank you notes, and one to
keep. Or have the booth set up for instant
photos, so that guests can take the snapshots
home with them as a fun momento.
Many couples now also put disposable
cameras out for their guests to use, so that
you can get the chance to see all those special
moments that you might have missed out on
at the time. These days almost everyone ends
up with some kind of DVD documenting their
wedding day (varying in quality, depending
on who is wielding the camera!).
AND DVD
If you would like to have a DVD that actually
bears repeated viewing and does justice
to your fantastic day, then call in the professionals.
With all the back up a videographer has at their
disposal you won’t end up with only half the
ceremony because the camcorder battery ran
out! As with photographers, styles will vary, so
ask for demonstration tapes to see whose work
you like.
You can buy centrepieces from any wedding shop
or you can create your own. It is a good idea to
check beforehand that the management is happy
for you to decorate the venue yourself. They
might have decorators willing to do it for you.
Finally, you need to decide on what entertainment
you want to provide your guests with: do you
want a live band or a DJ? Musicians usually have
their own style of music that they are most
comfortable with, so check that they play
something that you like and that it is suitable
for your wedding reception. If you have a DJ,
you can give him or her a list of songs that you
wish to be played and also ask them if they
take requests, as I'm sure a lot of your guests
will like to choose some songs that they want
to hear as well.

Lingerie
There are numerous outlets for fitting bridal
underwear for brides and the choice is endless,
from bridal basques, longline and low strapless
bras, different cup styles, stockings, matching briefs
etc, not forgetting the traditional garter!
Remember that you will be wearing your
lingerie all day so you need to make sure that
it is comfortable. It is imperative that you wear
correctly fitting lingerie, which should of
course be a high priority on your wedding day.
Don’t leave buying your lingerie until the last
minute. Your bridal underwear should ideally
be purchased before you have your first fitting,
so that your wedding dress can be measured
around the underwear.
Your lingerie should complement your figure
and should not be visible underneath your dress.
If you are wearing lingerie that fits properly you
will find that it will not only enhance your
silhouette, but also ensure all day comfort.
When choosing your underwear, don’t forget
that you will probably also need some
fashionable and practical swimwear for your
romantic getaway.

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Stag
AND HEN PARTIES
The idea behind the "Hen and Stag" party is for the couple to mark the end of their single
life before they commit to each other. However, in modern times, it has become an
opportunity to get together with a group of friends and party.
30
Traditionally a Hen and Stag night was a
simple gathering of friends the night before
the wedding. Today it can involve just about
anything, depending on your budget and taste
for adventure. Some people stretch the 'night'
into a whole week, making a celebration into
a holiday.
Hen and Stag nights should take place at
least a week before your wedding day. A lot
of damage can be done to your body,
especially when alcohol is involved! And
finally, just make sure that any of those
traditional pranks don’t end up in injury, or
getting you arrested!
Before you plan, or go on your hen or stag
night, here are a few basic tips to ensure that
the event is successful. The most important
rule to remember on your hen or stag night
is that no matter what the circumstances,
there are to be no members of the opposite
sex invited. Apart from perhaps the stripper!
Hen and Stag nights are a good opportunity
to let all your inhibitions go, before you enter
into the responsibility of marriage and
children. The night is traditionally organised
by the best man or the maid of honour.
So, what are the options?
For both hen and stag nights, there are now
a wide range of weekend breaks both in the
UK and abroad. Some of the more popular
locations in the UK are Blackpool, Newcastle,
London or the Lake District, and in Europe
you could try Barcelona, Prague, Ibiza or
Amsterdam, depending on your taste and
budget.
For the guys there are the obvious adrenaline
pumping activities such as paint-balling, clay
pigeon shooting, powerboat racing, racing car
track days, parachuting etc. Nowadays there
are many businesses specialising in these
types of event, so you can even get the
chance to drive a Chieftain tank, or live like
James Bond for the day!
For the ladies the list is endless! You can do
anything from champagne weekends to spa
days, cabaret or theatre trips and even
murder mystery evenings.
And last, but not least, don’t forget that there
are also some novel ways to transport
yourselves around on the night, in anything
from stretched limousines to fire engines.
Turning an occasion into a celebration
Organising something different for the Hen and Stag prior to the ‘big
occasion’ can be a difficult and daunting task, even for the most organised
person. Nowadays these events generally involve arranging more than one activity
and invariably for a full range of ages. Looking for not only something that fits the bill
for everyone but also accomodating the needs of a larger group certainly limits some of the options.
At Lucy’s in The Heart of the Lake District, you can choose from a variety of delicious culinary experiences
that will ensure everyone has a good time, whatever their age. Whether it’s a Vintage Afternoon Tea or
Barbeque and Butchery Bonanza at LucyCooks Cookery School, or perhaps dining at Lucy’s on a
plate - Champagne Breakfasts through to Decadent Dinners complete with decorations, personalised
menus and private dining areas.
Alternatively, Lucy4 Wine Bar & Bistro can offer you Nibbles and Tipples whilst
sampling Cockt4ils galore! If, however, you don’t want to venture out from where you’re
staying in The Lakes, don’t worry Lucy’s Inside Out Catering will come to you and
cater for your needs.
LucyCooks situated on The Mill Yard at Staveley, Nr. Kendal, is the ideal venue to enjoy
an alternative Cookery activity for every ability - from something such as Cupcakes,
Chocolate and Champagne through to a fully practical event that enables you to ‘Cook for
your Supper’… everything you make can be transported back ready to enjoy later.
Lucy’s on a plate Restaurant in the centre of Ambleside enables you to celebrate the company of friends and family in
a relaxed and informal environment – with the Conservatory seating up to 35 and a private dining area that can
accommodate 16 guests on one large table means that there are plenty of options to consider.
Lucy4 Wine Bar & Bistro is a fiendish find for those wishing to unveil their more ‘wicked’ side
- cockt4ils together with mix and match food served until 10.30pm It’s Perfect 4 Parties!
Lucy’s loves a ‘polite party’ and will be pleased to assist in the arrangements
and planning for an event to suit everyone… so let us help you
‘turn the occasion into a celebration!’

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Gifts
Ah yes, the wedding
gift list! The idea of
writing down a list
of presents you
would like to receive
from your guests,
sending it to each
and every one of
them and then
giving it to a shop
to sort out the
details sounds like
a great idea.
When compiling the list, try to be realistic in
what you are asking for, and try (I know it’s
difficult!) to at least major on practical things
that you might actually use. After all, an
opportunity like this - to get your new life
kitted out - does not come up every day.
AND FINISHING TOUCHES
Firstly, you should think about how you are
going to arrive at your wedding and the
choices are endless, from a horse-drawn
carriage to a stretch limo, or a vintage Rolls
Royce for example.
At the reception there is more to think about
than just the food, you should also consider
whether you are going to decorate the venue,
are you thinking of having balloons, table
centerpieces, freestanding displays and so on
you will also need entertainment, which could
be anything from a pianist, string quartet or
harpist through to a band and a DJ - the
choice is endless.
Don’t forget the custom of giving favours, which
can be anything from biscuits, chocolates, mini
bottles, cakes and even lottery tickets, to the
traditional five almonds representing health,
wealth, happiness, long life and fertility.
Finally, for a spectacular finish to the day, what
could be better than a firework display!
If you decide to end your day this way, then
it is best to speak to a local professional, or
your wedding venue and they will be able to
advise you on the suitability of your location
and the choice of displays available.
First of all, do your homework. Start looking
for your wedding list service at least two
months before you plan to send out the
invitations. Do some research: ask friends
who have recently been married where they
had their list and whether or not they were
happy with the service they received.
What would they have changed?
How easy was it to create their list? Were
their presents delivered on time? This will
help you to ask the right questions when
you check out the various options. As for
finishing touches, the list is endless and again
will depend on the budget allocation that
you have set.

Hair
AND BEAUTY
One of the most important
things to consider is your
hair and beauty, because this
will not only make you look
sensational on your wedding
day, but will also contribute
towards your health and
well-being as well.
Whatever stage you are at in your wedding
preparations, you can improve the way you
look on the big day through eating a balanced
diet and having a cleansing routine, not
forgetting the many things that you can do on
the day itself to maintain that centre-ofattention look. Make sure that you have a sixmonth countdown so that you look as radiant
and healthy as possible on your wedding day,
but brides who only have a few weeks to
prepare can still see some stunning results.
Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly
are an essential part of the preparation.
Exercise will give your circulation a major
boost and flush away the toxins that cause
blemishes in the skin. Aim for 30 minutes of
gentle exercise per day.
34
Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, as
well as drinking around up to 2 litres of water
a day, reducing your alcohol consumption and
cutting out smoking keeps your skin looking
clean and healthy. Try and get a good night’s
sleep of about eight hours a night in the few
weeks, or days before the wedding.
However, there are lots of other solutions to
looking healthy on your big day. Make sure
that you cleanse and moisturise every day
and facials will also help to remove any
blemishes and impurities in the skin, but be
aware that having one a few days beforehand
might lead to a blotchy face on the actual day!
Getting your hair into shape will also help you
look and feel great. Regular washing and
conditioning, along with massaging your scalp
will stimulate the blood flow and encourage
the growth of healthy hair. Talk to your
hairdresser about the style of cut and finish
that you want to achieve on your special day.
They should be able to advise you on styles
that will suit your type of hair and facial shape.
Make sure that you have the style worked out
well in advance and have it cut about a week
before the wedding day, so that it still retains
its shape but has had time to settle. It also
gives you the chance to change it if it really
isn’t what you wanted!
Don’t forget feet and hands either. Beauticians
suggest a manicure and pedicure at a beauty
salon every few weeks before the wedding,
which normally includes a foot massage to
stimulate the skin. Moisturise your hands daily
and soak your feet in warm water for about
ten minutes, twice a week, to achieve good
results.Try using essential oils to give that fresh
invigorated feeling. Keep your nails filed two
or three times a week and maybe push the
cuticles back while you're in the bath.
When it comes to choosing your make-up for
the wedding, caution is advised. The temptation
might be to let a beautician pile on a lot of
expensive make-up that may be totally
inappropriate, especially for today’s more
natural look. Also, know your skin colour.
This might seem obvious, but you should check
whether your skin is yellow or pink toned.
Make sure your foundation matches your skin
tone exactly, and check it in natural daylight.
Finally, if you are going to be applying your own
make-up, get some top tips of some off the
well-known high street beauty websites such as

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Flowers
Flowers are an essential part of any wedding, from the supplied bouquet that some
couples use at a registry office, to a floral extravaganza garden party design. They have
played a role in weddings from ancient Greek times, when the bride carried a posy of
herbs to represent fertility, to modern weddings across every continent. However, the kind
of flowers - both quantity and type - is very much dependent on your ideas and budget.
The most important wedding flowers are
those of the bride’s bouquet. You could
choose anything from a few simple blooms to
an ornate tumble of blossoms. Some brides
prefer pure white bouquets, using lilies or
roses and understated green foliage. However,
bold designs and colours are equally popular,
including exotic flowers such as orchids or
African violets.
When you pick your bouquet, consider
choosing complementary bouquets for your
bridesmaids, as well as a matching buttonhole
for your groom and any other attendants. It is
customary for your bridesmaids to hold
smaller bouquets than that of the bride, and
they can also contain a lesser variety of
flowers. You may be able to keep the cost
lower if you limit the most expensive flowers
to the bride’s bouquet.
38
In addition to the bouquets and buttonholes,
most weddings also use flowers to provide
decoration in the church or other place of
ceremony, as well as the reception venue.
Remember it is possible to transport the
flower displays used for the ceremony to
your wedding reception, so you can reduce
the total volume of flowers you need to buy.
Ask your florist if they can supply this service
for you, or recruit a trusted member of your
wedding party with a large car or van!
You generally don’t need more than a
couple of large flower arrangements for the
front of the ceremony, but you may also like
to decorate the end of each aisle with a bit
of foliage. If your flower budget is limited,
concentrate on the wedding reception displays.
Plan to have a centrepiece for each table, as well
as a few extras for places like the cake table and
bar area. Traditional table centrepieces can be
quite tall, and this often makes it difficult for your
guests to conduct conversations across their
table. Consider more modern designs such as
a tight rosebud circle or short-stemmed daisies
for lower, more practical ideas.
The symbolic meanings of the actual flowers
you choose could express your emotions on
your big day. For example, irises for faith and
wisdom, lilies for truth and honour, or lily of
the valley for happiness. Of course, the
classic rose is still the most romantic of all
flowers, representing true love. Just avoid
yellow roses as they signify jealousy!

LOCAL CHOICE YOUR PERFECT WEDDING 2013-2014
Honeymoon
Many people think it is just a case of picking
a tropical island and flopping onto the beach!
But couples nowadays are looking for more
than just two weeks in the sun.
Is it just sand, sea and seclusion that you are
after, or are you looking for something more
adventurous, such as exploring and trekking
through the jungle?
Many honeymooners are now over the age
of 30 and have already seen lots of different
places, so are looking for something more
exciting, which can range between anything
from backpacking to “minimoons” for people
who are short of time!
When you have decided what it is you want
from your honeymoon, your next step will be
to set a budget. Once you know how much
you have available to spend then the serious
planning can begin! Make sure that you include
spending money in your budget and not just
the cost of the actual holiday!
Make sure that you plan well in advance so
that you can put as much preparation into it
as possible – remember that the planning
element of your honeymoon should be a
romantic and enjoyable experience for both
of you. Leave it too late and it will simply
increase your stress levels, as you get involved
with all the other wedding arrangements that
need to be organised.
The first thing you need to do is to talk to
each other and decide what it is you both
want out of the honeymoon?
Some questions you should ask yourselves
are as follows:• How many weeks holiday can you take?
• Which part of the world do you want to visit?
• Think about what time of year you are
getting married?
• Will the weather at your honeymoon
destination be what you want at that time
of year?
Visit the travel agents and find out as much
information as possible on your chosen
destination. Many tour operators offer
honeymoon packages, which save you time
planning your own itinerary, or can offer you
a tailor-made vacation.
• What type of accommodation are you
looking for? Hotel, self-catering etc?
And what level of facilities will you need?
• How are you going to travel? Land, sea
or air?
• Will you need any permits, visa’s or
medical vaccinations for your chosen
destination?
And finally, if you are planning a surprise
honeymoon for your partner, make sure
you advise them on what clothes to pack
and ensure they have all the necessary
documentation and vaccinations!
Happy Honeymoon!
