True Lapland
Far away from the concrete ski hotels and
glaring commercialism of mass-market winter
resorts, lies a land of tranquility, stunning
natural beauty and warm, welcoming
communities on the edge of a vast wilderness.
This is the True Lapland, a land of legends and
magic, where Father Christmas has chosen to
make his home.
For your special visit to Santa, Transun will
transport you to the region of Enontekiö, in the
far-flung north-western arm of Finland, deep
within the Arctic Circle, 1,000km north of
Finland’s capital Helsinki and about 300km north
of the commercialised resort of Rovaniemi.
In Enontekiö you will breathe in what is claimed
to be the cleanest air in the world. Here, the
endless expanse of wilderness envelops the
visitor with peace and silence. Here, the majestic
Northern Lights frequently evolve across the
night sky and the road north to Tromsø is
officially named the ‘Northern Lights Route’.
Here, amid untainted rivers, crystal-clear lakes,
and vast forests, magnificent wildlife still thrives.
And then there are the reindeer: 20,000 of them,
compared with just 2,000 people. But what a
people they are, for Enontekiö is part of the Sámi
homeland area that has supported the unique
way of life of its Sámi peoples for generations.
Your Short Break in Lapland
A magical meeting with Santa is the highlight of your short break in True Lapland. But there’s so much more included ... and it’s all magical!
Our short breaks include the following activities, allowing you to immerse yourself in the stunning vistas and snowscapes of True Lapland, amongst
some of the cleanest air in the world.
This is a community built upon a deep respect
for the natural world, with a traditional
commitment to hospitality, as Transun guests
will discover to their delight.
And at Christmas time in particular, this is a
mysterious land of myths and legends where the
possibilities of magic come alive. The people of
this land have long believed in elves,
traditionally Santa’s helpers in the run-up to his
epic Christmas journey. His whereabouts are a
closely guarded secret but the reindeer have
heard rumours as to his hideout. They will be
your guides in your search for Santa, deep in the
silent forests of True Lapland.
SEARCH FOR SANTA BY REINDEER SLEIGH
A GUARANTEED PRIVATE MEETING WITH SANTA
Amid huge excitement, you set out into the hushed, snow-laden forest,
first by snowmobile, until all traces of human habitation have been left
behind. Then, in the magical forest, you climb aboard a sleigh, pulled by
a willing reindeer – it could be a cousin of Dasher, Dancer or Prancer!
– to seek out Santa’s hidden hideaway. Perhaps a friendly elf will
appear to help you find clues. There is a hush of expectation in the air,
broken only by the sound of sleigh bells... are they coming from your
own sleigh, or is Santa on the move nearby?
You’ve found a delightful hidden cabin in the forest, a warm light shining
from its windows. Hearts racing, you push the door open ... and here is
Father Christmas, warm and cosy in his hideaway, surrounded by
evocative toys and decorations, and stacks and stacks of Christmas
presents. There are no queues. No having to share the moment. Just
you, your children and the grand old man himself who magically knows
a great deal about them. How, you might ask? Well, that’s Santa’s little
secret, of course!
A THRILLING HUSKY EXPERIENCE
SNOWMOBILE ADVENTURE
Friendly, hard-working and eager to please, husky dogs have long
helped man traverse the snowy tundra of the Arctic. And you can enjoy
the thrill of being pulled through the magnificent snowscapes by your
own team of dogs, the runners of your sled hissing through the snow
and ice. On your Husky Experience, lasting around 40 minutes, you will
have time to befriend the dogs and learn about their busy lives, before
briefly ‘mushing’ your team through the wilderness, with one adult
steering and one adult, or two small children, as passengers.
The snowmobile, or skidoo, has transformed the lives of those who
live in the Arctic. Versatile and fast, they make travelling through the
snow-laden landscapes an exhilarating experience. You will enjoy a
one-hour safari, with the forests unfolding as you speed along. These
are powerful machines and can only be driven by holders of a full
driving licence, with up to one passenger aged 15 or above on the
back. Children under 15 will travel in a sleigh being pulled by the
guide’s snowmobile.
SSSH! IT’S SANTA’S LITTLE SECRET
Children everywhere know that Santa keeps an eye on them throughout the year and seems to know a great deal
about how good they have been when it comes to Christmas time. And he knows all about them too! Favourite
football team? Pets’ names? Major events over the last 12 months? Santa’s in the know.
How does Santa know all this information about the individual boys and girls who visit him? Well, that’s Santa’s
little secret, of course, but, to enhance your child’s meeting with the grand old man, we will let parents in on the
secret once your booking is processed. Please note: only available on short breaks.

Hetta and Hotels
Hotels and cosy log cabins in a typical True Lapland village
A unique winter retreat... providing warmth within the wilderness
Deep inside the Arctic Circle, the picturesque village
of Karesuando is set on the edge of a vast wilderness
where beauty, nature and wildlife abound.
Karesuando is a charming village on the border
between Finland and Sweden, which means you are
able to walk from your hotel into a different country!
The main village sits on the Swedish side of the River
Muonio, while the Davvi Arctic Lodge is in Finland.
The hotel is set on a secluded hillside on the edge of
Karesuando, allowing you to savour the tranquillity of
this beautiful, unspoiled region. The centrepiece of the
hotel is its distinctive restaurant, which provides
spectacular panoramic views. The circular design of
the restaurant is inspired by the shape of the Sámi
reindeer corral. The Davvi offers four choices
of accommodation.
Aurora House
The Davvi Arctic Lodge now offers comfortable designer
accommodation for those who would like to enjoy
something extra special. The Aurora House takes your
Arctic experience to new levels, with digital underfloor
heating, free-standing baths, saunas, and modern
log-burning stoves. You have a choice of accommodation
when staying in our premier Aurora House: either a suite or
a single unit. The suite comprises of a double bedroom with
a large en-suite bathroom; a separate sauna; a second
shower room; and a large living area with log-burning
stove, designer furniture and a fold-down double bed. The
single units comprise of either the double bedroom and
en-suite bathroom, or the large lounge with the fold-down
bed and smaller shower room. Tea and coffee making
facilities are provided. All meals will be taken at the Davvi
Arctic Lodge restaurant with other hotel guests.
THE HOTEL ROOMS
The Davvi Arctic Lodge hotel rooms are set on two
floors in a wing that extends from the main building.
There are rooms sleeping two or three, as well as
larger family rooms which are simply furnished and
comfortable. Please note that if the family rooms are
utilised to their maximum capacity, storage space will
be limited. All rooms are en suite, although some of the
bathrooms (shower, WC) are small.
THE CABINS
The wooden cabins are conveniently situated within the
hotel grounds. The traditional timber-built buildings
are cosy and all are en suite (shower, WC) with a
private sauna. Most cabins are semi-detached and
sleep three or four, with one double or two single beds
plus a sofa bed for up to two children in an open-plan
area. All cabins are located just metres from the main
hotel building, where meals are taken.
THE FELL HOUSE
Hetta, in the far north of Finnish Lapland, is the True Lapland and a perfect base from which to go in search of the real Father Christmas. Hetta is a
small village, surrounded by miles of forested snowscapes set alongside a dramatic frozen lake. The vast wilderness expanses of this region have long
been traversed by the indigenous Sámi people; and many Sámi families are still resident in Hetta.
LOMAKYLA
MAJATALO
JUSSANTUPA
The Lomakyla provides simply furnished
accommodation ideally suited to those who
want to feel close to nature. There are just
four cabins, four cottages and four rooms
for winter use. There is a small central
dining room where meals are taken, except
the Festive Dinner, which is held at a
nearby hotel.
The Hetan Majatalo is an excellent choice
for families and a place where you are sure
to receive a friendly welcome. The hotel is
set away from the main road and backs
onto a forest. The dining room is set in
another building. The pine interior of the
rooms gives the hotel a fresh feel.
The Jussantupa is situated in the centre of
Hetta. As such it is one of the most
prominent local hotels and this is manifest
in its lively atmosphere and professional
standards of service. The hotel is located on
the main road opposite local amenities and
affords an excellent base from which to
explore your surroundings. The large
restaurant area opens out from the pleasant
lobby and there is a comfortable bar area,
perfect for a nightcap or a game of pool.
THE CABINS
The large cabins sleep six or seven people
over two floors. In the upstairs loft area there
are three beds. The large cabins have a
fireplace, shower & WC, sauna and television.
The small cabins sleep four people (max. six)
on one floor. Small cabins have a fireplace,
shower & WC, sauna and television.
THE COTTAGES
The cottages are detached and can sleep
two to three people. Cottages have a
kitchenette, shower & WC and television.
THE ROOMS
There is one family room that can sleep
three to four people, it has one bedroom
with a double bed and a sofa bed in the
lounge area that can sleep two children, as
well as a sauna and a kitchenette. There
are three twin rooms that have two twin
beds and can take an extra bed. Rooms
have a shower & WC and television.
THE ROOMS
With just 27 rooms, the Hetan Majatalo
offers a range of room types to suit most
family groups. The twin rooms can sleep
two with an extra bed possible for a child.
The family rooms vary in size and sleep
four, five or six, with the possibility of a
simple extra bed for one more child in each
case. Please note: extra beds constrict
space. They will normally be placed in the
loft area (accessed by narrow staircase –
family rooms only) and usually take the
form of a mattress for a child. The hotel
accommodation includes two rooms for the
disabled or those less able. All rooms have
a shower & WC, telephone and radio.
THE FACILITIES
The hotel has a small library and internet
access.* The reception also serves as a
small gift shop and bar.* A fully-equipped
fitness room and sauna* are also available
to hotel guests.
*Local charge applies.
THE ROOMS
With just 30 rooms, the Jussantupa is ideal
for parties of two or three or those families
not requiring a family room. The twin rooms
can sleep two with an extra bed possible for
a child. All rooms have a shower & WC,
telephone, television and radio.
THE FACILITIES
The hotel has a small lounge area. Internet
is available during reception hours free of
charge. The reception also serves as a small
gift shop and bar with pool table,* serving
snacks, hot and cold drinks and alcoholic
beverages. The hotel also has separate
communal female and male saunas as well
as a private sauna with lounge that can be
booked for your party.* There is also an
after-sauna plunge pool to cool down in.
*Local charge applies
The Fell House provides spacious accommodation that
is ideal for families. The two-bedroom family rooms
sleep 5-6, with one double bedroom, one twin bedroom,
and a sofa bed in the sitting room. The three-bedroom
family rooms accommodate 7-8, with one double
bedroom, two twin bedrooms, and a sofa in the sitting
room. The Fell House is located approximately 150m
from the main Davvi Arctic Lodge hotel building, where
meals are taken. It is connected by a purpose built
footpath through the forest and may not be suitable for
people with walking difficulties. All Fell House
accommodation has private facilities (shower, WC) and
TV showing local programmes only.

drive through the silent snowscapes (children
pulled in a sleigh behind guide).
EXCITING SNOW ACTIVITIES
sometimes stays at this time of the year. After a
magical journey through the silent forest, each
family will enjoy a private visit with Santa, who
will find the time to talk to each child about their
Christmas wishes.
