Your Community Rep’s job is to be your first point of contact. The Community Chair will be your
second point of contact. They can help you deal with problems or concerns that arise throughout the
season. They are also people you must contact in the event of a protest or appeal. Email links can

MWSA will hold its Annual General Meeting on October 7th, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Mill Creek Room
in MWTC Mall. The meeting will include Bylaw changes and election for Board positions. More
information will be posted on the website closer to the date in regards to what positions are available,
etc.

MWSA Needs Volunteers Like YOU!
Our soccer program is delivered almost exclusively by volunteers. We are incredibly grateful for each
and every volunteer. Please show respect and appreciation to the volunteers who give up their
personal time to provide sports activities for your child. If you are not already involved, please
consider volunteering some of your time to help make your child’s soccer experience a success.
Your $75.00 soccer deposit is dated October 18, 2014 and kept until the entire soccer season is
complete: this means that the deposit you pay in August is still active until the season is over in
March. Even though your child might be finished their season, our older youth are still playing and
there are still many areas where we will need your help. Please offer as much assistance you can to
our Volunteer Coordinator, as she has a huge portfolio and needs all the help she can get!!
How can you help?
Each of the coaches you see on the field started off just like you – a parent that wants to make a
difference for a child. MWSA offers many FREE coaching courses and clinics, as well as covers the
costs of the NCCP certification courses, Goal to Goal courses run through Edmonton Minor Soccer
Association. For more information on becoming a coach, please send us an email; contact a member
of the Board or the office staff. If you’d like to help, but only have a limited amount of time, there are
many other volunteer positions available. Please see the website for more job descriptions.

Volunteer Job Descriptions
With the exception of the Team Officials, all volunteer duties last no more than four (4) hours. At the
end of the volunteer duty your cheque will be shredded and if you used cash, you must go to the
office and it will be returned to you.
Coach (this is a full season commitment). Coaches are in charge of the team. They pick up the
teams equipment bag and jerseys. They contact their players. They hold a parents meeting to inform
the parents of all things necessary pre-season. They plan the drills for practices, fill in all of the game
score sheets, attend technical clinics and training sessions and run the games. Coaches are
responsible for the conduct of their spectators.
Assistant Coach attends the meetings that coach isn’t able to, helps run the practice drills, he/she
might carry the equipment for the coach.
Team Manager can act as the contact person for the team, sending out information and
correspondence from the coach to the parents via email or phone. They can arrange for the team
photos, any tournament entries, team fundraisers, money collection and end of season parties.
Equipment Manager would be the person who carries the balls, nets and flags to all the practices
and games as well as sets up and takes down the net before and after games. This would be for U10
and up and in the outdoor season only
Bench Parents ALL teams must have at least one adult on the bench and in the change room that is
of the same gender as the players. For example, if the Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager of a
GIRLS team are all male, then they must include a fourth person - one of the parents, to be a
“Bench/Change Room Mom” who would be present at all times. This is required for all games. The
same, in reverse, applies to the BOYS team that requires a “Bench and Change Room Dad”.
Referee Liaison It is mandatory for every team (U10 - U18) to provide a referee liaison for every
league game. The liaison can be a different person each game and can be anyone with the
exception of the coach or assistant coach. The name of the referee liaison MUST be marked in the
area provided on the game sheet. The team has a 15 minute grace period in which to provide a
liaison or it will default the game. Please ensure the ref liaison name is marked on the game
sheet.
Gym Patrol are responsible to ensure that the parents, siblings and family members that attend the
practices or games in school gyms all take off their wet or dirty foot wear, that there are no beverages
other than water allowed in the gyms, and that anything moved is returned to the original spots, no
equipment left behind, and no empty bottles, etc. left behind once your team is finished for the night.
Registration Volunteers are responsible for taking the registration forms and fees. Collecting the
volunteer deposit cheques, ensuring that the community memberships are present, check that
government issued ID is collected; ensure form is correctly filled out.

Count room volunteers are responsible for recording and reconciling the registration deposits for
the individual community leagues. They ensure the forms are filled out correctly and highlight any
errors they notice. They record cash, cheques and community league points used for registration
payments.
Evaluations Signing up players making sure they are in correct age category, Collect fees, handing
our jerseys, returning jerseys, etc. Select Coaches are there to actually evaluate the players.
Equipment This is ensuring that when the coaches return their equipment that it is all there and in
good condition. For equipment hand out this is stuffing bags with soccer balls, making first aid
bundles, checking to ensure that a full set of jerseys are in each bag. Equipment warehouse is at
Russel Metals on 99Street and 71Avenue.
Tournament Set up tents, tables and stations, set up the candy shack, operate the slush, popcorn
and cotton candy machines. Work the concession, selling products BBQing, keeping the tent tidy.
Organize medals for presentation, supervising the dunk tanks and kicking cages, bouncy castle, or
obstacle course. Tear down consists of tearing down the tents, packing up the equipment into trucks,
ensuring the garbage and recyclables are taken care of, etc.
Field Marshal Field Marshalls direct coaches to the fields that they should be playing on, collecting &
returning game sheets to headquarters, reporting game scores to headquarters and being a liaison
between coaches/referees and other team officials.
Head Quarters volunteers maintain the head office for the tournament. The referees, field marshals
and other tournament volunteers check in here and receive their volunteer t-shirts to wear for the
event. The field marshals are given their instructions, maps and radios here. The standings, score
sheets and disciplinary actions are recorded here.
There are many tournaments through our association and through EMSA that you can volunteer for;
MWSA Pre-Season Tournament – Thanksgiving weekend, Polar Cup – Last weekend of December,
City Finals, Provincials, Slush Cup, Power Play Cup, MWSA Kickoff Classic – Last weekend of May,
MWSA Mini Fest – First weekend of June, Intercities
Pre-Season Camp volunteers are there to help the players and coaches sign in, give directions to
where they need to be, hand out pinnies, etc.
Casino volunteers help to work the casino once every 18 months. The positions available are
general manager, banker, cashier, chip runners, count room. You can either work during the day
from 11-6 p.m. or at night from 6-3:00 a.m.

2014/15 Indoor Season Start Date
The tentative start date for the season is October 18, 2014 and runs through until the end of January.
Each team plays approximately 12 to 15 games in the season; however we can NOT guarantee the
exact numbers.
Player Registration and Fees
Space is limited so please register early to avoid the disappointment of having your child put on a
waiting list. Registration fees may be paid by cash, community points or by a personal cheque. Note
that NSF cheques will result in an additional $35 service fee. ALL OUTSTANDING FEES and for
those players, U10 and up, with jerseys to return or pay for will have to be cleared with MWSA
before a player is placed on a team
* Reissuing receipts for Children’s Fitness Tax credit is $35 per individual per season. The
Official Children’s Fitness Tax Receipt is available six weeks into the of the child’s
registration form.
Refunds and Withdrawals
There will be NO refunds issued after October 1st, 2014.
A $35 administration fee will be deducted from all refunds. NSF fees are nonrefundable.
Players may withdraw at any time. Refunds may no longer be available due to the timing of the
withdrawal. A form can be found on the website. To request a refund, parents/guardians must notify
MWSA in writing, either by regular mail, office delivery or via email to
[email protected] Messages cannot be relayed through coaches. It is also the
parents’ responsibility to ensure that all jerseys are returned to MWSA or your $200.00 jersey deposit
will be cashed.
Team Pictures
MWSA does not include pictures with the registration fees for any age groups. Teams that wish team
pictures must arrange this on their own.
Additional Costs
Please be advised that, in addition to registration fees and centre passes coaches may request
additional fees to pay for tournament entry costs, practice space (i.e. Centre Time), or other various
team expenses (e.g. pictures, team party, etc.).

Jersey Deposit Cheques
Player jersey deposits are mandatory for U10 to U18 players. All U10-U18 players receive a set of
jerseys for the season but NOT until the Coach receives a postdated jersey deposit cheque from the
player. The jersey deposit is $200.00 and is to be a postdated cheque, for March 1, 2015. All jersey
deposit cheques are to be made out to “Mill Woods Soccer Association”. Upon receiving a jersey
deposit cheque a player is given 2 jerseys and at the end of the season a player returns both jerseys,
clean and dry, to their Coach. The Coach then returns all of the players’ jerseys as well as the team’s
equipment to the MWSA Equipment warehouse on one of the Equipment Return Dates.
Cheques may also be cashed if the jerseys are returned dirty, stained or ripped to the Coach. If this is
the case the players deposit cheque and returned jerseys from the player will be returned by the
Coach to the MWSA Equipment warehouse for review. *** Please take care of the JERSEYS! Help us
extend the life of the U10-U18 jerseys by having your child wear their jerseys for games only. You can
wear regular t-shirts and shorts for practices. When a jersey is soiled please clean it as soon as
possible.
Please note, players who do not return their jerseys to their Coach at the end of the season
must then return them to the MWSA Equipment warehouse on one of the Indoor Equipment
return dates. After the last MWSA Equipment return date for those players who have not
returned their jerseys their jersey cheque deposits will be cashed. If players return their jerseys
to the office after their jersey deposit cheque has been cashed by MWSA a cheque will be
issued less administrative fees of $35.00. Indoor Equipment Return Dates will be posted on the
MWSA web site in the New Year. Any questions regarding jerseys and/or team equipment can

Cost and Location of Soccer Centres
All individuals (e.g., parents, friends, and other family members) will be required to pay a facility
admission fee prior to entering any of the Edmonton Soccer Centres. Pricing is set by the Indoor
Facilities and may be subject to change. Current prices are:
Ages 17 and under - FREE
Ages 65 and over - FREE
Spectators 18 and over - $4.00 Daily Admission
Spectators 18 and over - $28.00 Individual Season Pass
(Prices subject to change)
The Individual Season Pass is valid for one person’s admission and could be used within an immediate
family (i.e. mother or father on separate occasions). The pass allows only one person’s admission
without charge when more than one immediate family member is present.
A valid pass must be shown by each person seeking entry.
Player and Coach Admission Passes are to be used by players and coaches ONLY and are nontransferable. Passes must be shown for admission to the centres.

Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues Memberships
Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) memberships expire in August each year. The
registrant's immediate family must have purchased a current community league membership in order
for the registrant to play MWSA community soccer. The registrant will be required to produce this
membership card before he or she is placed on a team. A community league membership is a
requirement for liability insurance. This rule cannot and will not be relaxed.
You must purchase your community league membership from the community in which you live.
Any EFCL community league membership will be honoured by MWSA. Memberships will be available
for purchase at early bird registration days at a cost of $25.00.

Teams
MWSA places its emphasis on building and developing solid, recurrent team cores. Teams are named
according to the coach’s home community and there is no guarantee that players will be placed on
teams bearing the name of their home community. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that practices
will take place in the community for which a team is named.
Age movements
“Age movement” places a player at a different-age team and is accepted only in rare cases. You can
have a downward age movement due to mental or limited physical limitations. These requests must
be supported by letters from physicians. All age movement requests must be in writing. The
letters/emails must be received by MWSA (Attn. MWSA 2nd VP, [email protected]) and
include the reason for them, no later than September 6th, 2014. The 2nd VP will inform the applicant of
the dates and times for this evaluation, and the Committee’s decision regarding the request. The
committee’s decision is final.
Special Requests
While MWSA allows you to make special requests on your registration form (during Early Bird
Registration ONLY), remember that it is simply not possible to accommodate all requests. While we
will do what we can to grant requests, there are absolutely no guarantees of requests for player
placement being met.
Age Categories
We Improved the MM and U6 program! We have incorporated more skill development into the MM and U6
programs.
Mighty Mites– If your child were born in 2011, he/she belongs in this category. The Mighty Mites play once a
week on Friday evenings in gyms around Mill Woods. The Mighty Mite program is a mixed (boy/girl) category.
Players in this Age Category will participate in a 4 on 4 game of soccer which allows more “touches” on the ball,
enhances skill development and most importantly more fun for the kids. This is the only age group for
which Mill Woods Soccer creates the schedule. The Edmonton Minor Soccer Association schedules all
other age groups.
Under 6's - If your child was born in 2010 or 2009, he/she belongs in this category. The under 6's play once a
week usually at the South soccer center. They may also practice once a week, on a day assigned by the coach.
U6 is a mixed (boys & girls) category.
Under 8's - If your child was born in 2008 or 2007, he/she belongs in this category. The under 8's play once a
week usually at the South Soccer Center and practice once a week in school gyms. U8 is a gender specific
category meaning that boys and girls play on separate teams.

Under 10's – Community - If your child was born in 2006 or 2005, he/she belongs in this category.
Under 10's play once a week at one of the three soccer centers with a practice once a week.
Under 10’s – City-wide – If your child was born in 2006 or 2005, he/she belongs to this category. His/her
games would be played once a week with practices one or more times a week.
Please Note: Evaluations will be held only for those U10 players interested in participating in this city
wide program. In order for your child to participate in the U10 City-wide program he/she must attend
evaluations. Please obtain your evaluation time from the Evaluation table at the time of registration. U10 City
Wide players must have player cards. (See EMSA website for details).
Under 12's - If your child was born in 2004 or 2003, he/she belongs to this category. All games will be played
at any of the Indoor Soccer Centers and will also involve practice one or more times a week. All U12 City
Wide Tier 1, 2 & 3 players must be carded (see EMSA website for details). Evaluations will be held for this
age group for the City Wide Tier 1, 2 & 3 players only. Please obtain your evaluation time from the
evaluation table during registration.
Under 14's - If your child was born in 2002 or 2001, he/she belongs in this category. All games will be played
at any of the Indoor Soccer Centers and will also involve one or more practices a week. All U14 Tier 1, 2 & 3
players must be carded (see EMSA website for details). Evaluations will be held for this age group for Tier
1, 2 & 3 players only. Please obtain your evaluation time from the evaluation table during registration.
Under 16's - If your child was born in 2000 or 1999, he/she belongs in this category. All games will be played
at the Indoor Soccer Centers and will involve one or more practices a week. All U16 players must be carded
(see EMSA website for details). Evaluations will be held for this age group for Tier 1, 2 & 3 players only.
Please obtain your evaluation time from the evaluation table during registration.
Under 18's - If your child was born in 1998 or 1997, he/she belongs in this category. All under 18's play once a
week at the Indoor Soccer Centers and will practice one or more times a week. All U18 players must be
carded (see EMSA website for details). Evaluations will be held for Tier 1, 2 & 3 players only. Please
obtain your evaluation time from the evaluation table during registration.
Parent Meeting
Please attend the parent meeting that the Coaches will have prior to the start of the season.
This gives you a chance to get to know your child’s coaching team and gives them the opportunity to
get to know you too! The Coach will give you information about the games and practices. Please
volunteer to help your child’s team and MWSA whenever and wherever you can. Your support and
much needed assistance can make the difference between a rewarding, productive season and
a mediocre, frustrating one. Each team will require volunteer helpers to assist during the season.
Volunteers may include a co-coach, team manager, telephone/email person, or someone to plan the
team photos or team wrap up party.

Uniforms
Mighty Mites, U6, U8
Children in these age categories are given a jersey by MWSA, and are allowed to keep it. All players
are asked to wear black shorts and black socks, due to the rule regarding matching shorts and socks.
All players should have their own labeled water bottle.
Shin pads are mandatory for all players. Shin pads are to be worn inside the player’s socks.
Children without shin pads will not be allowed to participate in games or practices.
Under 10, 12, 14, 16, & 18
In these age groups, children are issued a jersey to use throughout the season. A deposit
cheque of $200 postdated for March 1, 2015, must be given to your coach before receiving a set of
jerseys. This cheque will be returned to you once the jersey has been collected by your coach at the
end of the season and is in good condition. Because of the rule regarding matching shorts and socks,
all players are required to wear black shorts and socks. Shin pads are mandatory for all players.
Shin pads are to be worn inside the player’s socks. Players without shin pads will not be permitted to
play. All players should have their own labeled water bottle.
Home Team = White Jerseys
Away Team = Blue Jerseys
**Please help us extend the life of the U10-U18 jerseys by having your child wear their jerseys for
games only. You can wear regular t-shirts and shorts for practices.
Please remember to wash your child’s jersey and other equipment
regularly. Jersey’s left in soccer bags do smell and tend to mold if they are wet. For hygiene reasons
please remember to wash and air dry shin pads.

Jewellery
Jewellery (earrings, necklaces, etc) is NOT allowed when playing soccer.
FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association – the world governing body for soccer) and
the CSA are clear in this regard. A player cannot wear something that can hurt themselves or anyone
else on the field, i.e. jewellery.
Medical-Alert jewellery or clothing required by player’s religion may be worn only if the referee deems
it safe and does not give the player an unfair advantage. Medical-Alert jewellery can normally be
made safe by wrapping it with tape, with the necessary information showing.
A Player refusing to remove any type of jewellery at the request of the referee (including all
external body piercing(s)) will not be permitted to play.
Head Covering "Hijab"
The wearing of sports type hijab will be permitted upon a satisfactory pre-game inspection by the
referee, as mandated by FIFA rule four, which states all items of clothing or equipment other than the
basic equipment must be inspected by the referee and determined to be safe.
The wearing of other forms of the hijab will also be permitted at the discretion of the referee,
but only after a pre-game determination that the hijab does not pose a danger to the wearer
or any other player.
The objective in developing clear guidelines and communicating same is to ensure continuity
of implementation across the province.
Eye Glasses
Eye glasses are allowed ONLY if they are prescription and ONLY if they are made of plastic
and are non-shattering lenses. Sunglasses are NOT permitted unless they are prescription
lenses. Sport glasses and sport glass covers are permitted.
Casts/Splints/Athletic Braces
Hard casts (plaster) are NOT permitted – even if padded.
Soft Casts – if adequately padded will be allowed if the Referee approves it.
Braces are permitted – but if it is a hard brace or has edges – it must be padded.
If a player uses a cast or brace to intimidate with intent to injure they will be cautioned and
sent off the field.

Security Clearance Forms
Each year MWSA requires an Edmonton Police Service Criminal Record Check from all volunteers who
are in regular contact with our players. MWSA conducts these record checks at no cost to our
volunteers.
Player/Coach/Manager EMSA I.D. Carding Dates & Info
•Players, Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers of the following divisions are required to have player cards:
U10/U12 City Wide, All Premier (Tier 1, 2 & 3) teams, All U16/U18 Community Teams (Groups that DO NOT
require cards – U10/U12/U14 Community Teams).
• Person getting the I.D. card must be present for the carding session as this is a picture ID card.
• ID is required to receive your EMSA I.D. card. Acceptable I.D.’s are – Birth Certificate, Passport, *Alberta
Health Care Card (*must have full name – NO initials on the card), Driver’s License. We DO NOT accept school
I.D.’s.
• The following Player Carding Sessions will be held in the EMSA office located in the SOUTH Edmonton Soccer
Centre at 6520 Roper Road.
Please keep in mind that wait times can be up to and over an hour pending line ups.

• EMAIL PROCESSING FOR EMSA I.D CARDS
You also have the option of having your card processed via email. You can fill out the player card
information form, scan it and email it along with a current photo (just neck upwards please, must be
JPEG and sent as an attachment) to [email protected], we will also need to see a copy
of the required ID. You will receive an email back when your card is ready for pick up. Processing
times can be anywhere from 1 day to 1 week.
• There is no charge for new cards or to get a replacement card if the current card has expired.
• There is a $20.00 fee for lost/misplaced cards payable by the player.

* Due to field availability, holidays, time restrictions you may be required to play a few of your games on a
different playing day other than what is listed above.
*Christmas Break will start on Friday, Dec 19th. Games will resume on Saturday, Jan. 3rd.
Games
Players and coaches should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of all games. This allows the
coaches time to give instructions to the players prior to the game.
Parents should stay for all games so that they can enjoy observing their child’s activities and be
present if they are needed by the child or coach.

Gyms
Due to more strict gym user policies this season parents and siblings are discouraged from staying in
the gyms during the practices. There have been many problems in the past and we don’t want to
jeopardize losing our valuable practice space. Please be aware of the rules that are in place.
Coaches should meet the custodian and do a walk through the gym.
NEVER prop the doors open.
REMOVE footwear at the FRONT entrance.
DO NOT allow anyone on stages or in the halls, failure to do so will result in the immediate
cancellation of your booking.
Report any damage to the custodian and to the Mill Woods Soccer office immediately.
Respect the time slot you have been given, and be sure to be finished and on time. That
means you should be out of the gym at 7:00 not 7:05 etc.
Practises end at 5 minutes before the hour 7:00 to 7:55pm as an example. Just like games,
a one hour slot is 55 minutes long. Change into your gym shoes and equipment outside of
the gym.
It has been stressed very strongly that if an individual Coach, manager, parent, etc. make
their own arrangements with a school for practice time and the City of Edmonton becomes
aware of it, they will pull not only MWSA but all of EMSA licenses and we will be entitled to
NO gym time.
The only beverage allowed in the gym is water, no juice or sports drinks. If you spill, please
wipe it up! There is to be no food in the gym.
It is mandatory for all indoor teams to assign a parent (or other responsible attendant) to monitor
practices held in school gyms.
The Coach is NOT a babysitter and will not automatically assume the task of transporting your child
to/from fields, or caring for your child beyond practice or game time. If you need help, work
something out with another parent.

Selects FC
The Selects teams are MWSA Zone Representative teams at the U10 City Wide, and Tier 1, 2 and 3
Representatives at the U12, U14, U16, and U18 age categories. They play against other
zone
representative teams in a citywide program that is guided by EMSA rules and regulations.
The Selects Program is a more-competitive program, which requires higher commitment levels (by
players, their parents, and coaches), and some additional costs:

Tournament expenses, in and/or out of town
Expenses to attend Provincials
A track suit (optional) for approximately $110

Evaluations
Each fall the players wanting to play in our Selects City Wide and Premier A & B division in the U10U18 age categories go through an ‘evaluation' process. It is designed to evaluate a player's skills and
abilities to ensure that players are placed on teams with player of similar skills and abilities.
Evaluations involve the written assessment of players by their coaches in previous seasons, as well as a
physical test of the players’ current skills. Evaluations are held prior to the start of the season.
The following evaluations are mandatory:
U10 – All City Wide Players
U12 – All Players Tier 1, 2 and 3
U14 – All Players Tier 1, 2 and 3
U16 – All Players Tier 1, 2 and 3
U18 – All Players Tier 1, 2 and 3
Evaluations will be held indoors so please dress appropriately – shorts and a T-shirt are ideal and shin
pads are mandatory. No “Select” or other club clothing is allowed. Only CLEAN running shoes or
indoor soccer shoes may be worn for evaluations, outdoor cleats may NOT be worn on the Indoor
Soccer fields. Evaluations are September 8-11, 2014 details at registration when signing in at the

Being a Trialist (U10+)
“Trialists” are players that are ‘loaned’ by one team to play on a team of higher age or Tier.
MWSA strongly encourages the use of trialists because it benefits the player, his or her team,
the receiving team, and our program.
MWSA coaches do not ‘own’ their players and are responsible to advance each player’s ability.
Occasionally, when teams are short-handed or want to try-out promising players from other
teams, they may ask for players from other teams (younger age group or lower tier). This is done
on a game-by-game basis, to a maximum of 5 league games.
If asked to be a trialist, consider it a compliment that would allow your child a great opportunity to
play at a more demanding or competitive skill-level.
MWSA Keeper Training
We will be continuing our Keeper Trainer for the Indoor Season. Whether you are interested in trying
the position for the first time or you’re an experienced keeper, our dedicated and trained coaching
Staff would love to see you out. Keeper Training Sessions to be announced.
Technical Training
Beginning in early 2010, MWSA developed and will continue to implement a Coaching Skills
Development Program. It is available for all who wish to coach in Mill Woods
This clinic and others assist with making your coaching role easier, more enjoyable and successful,
with a focus on:

The nature of “Stage Development” (providing age appropriate coaching)

Developing balance and coordination (through exercises or drills)


MWSA 2014/2015 Indoor Pre Season Camp –September 6th
ALL Pre Season camps are free to all U6 to U18 registered players for the 2014/2015 Indoor season.
Players need not register beforehand as players register by showing up and signing in at the camp.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in. These camps are hosted outdoors are, weather dependant,
and are at the following location: Satoo Rink, 8515-17 Ave
Please make sure you wear a pair of running shoes or soccer shoes and shin pads. (Players will not be
allowed on the field without shin pads). Please dress weather appropriate, bring water and have fun.

Players Clinics throughout the Indoor Season
As part of a players registration fees, the technical program hosts Community technical team sessions
at Community team practices throughout the indoor season. These sessions will start in November
and will provide assistance with a player’s development in soccer. Community Technical team session
schedules will be sent out to the Community Coaches the first week of November.

Dispute Resolution

In case of disputes between you and your child's coach or other team officials please handle them
with dignity and serve as a good role model to your child and others. If your effort to correct the
situation directly with the coach or team officials fails, please relay your concern to your Community
Soccer Representative. If still not satisfied, contact the MWSA President, 1st VP, or 2nd VP.
Discipline
If a player is exhibiting minor behaviour issues or missing many practices, the player may experience a
reduction in his/her playing time. Significant issues with a player or parent, that requires intervention
beyond the team coaching staff, will be addressed by the MWSA 1st Vice President.
Bench and Change Room Moms and Dads Requirement
ALL teams must have at least one adult on the bench and in the change room that is of the same
gender as the players. For example, if the Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager of a GIRLS team are all
male, then they must include a fourth person - one of the parents, to be a “Bench/Change Room
Mom” who would be present at all times. This is required for all games. The same, in reverse, applies
to the BOYS team that requires a “Bench and Change Room Dad”.
Respect your Referees
Referee abuse and harassment by spectators, players or coaches will NOT be tolerated!
Game officials (i.e., Referees) are critical to the sport of soccer and without them there would be no
game. Please treat them with respect and recognize that they too are learning and improving with
experience. Anyone found guilty of harassing game officials will be disciplined and may be barred
from games.

Referee Liaison (RL)
It is mandatory for every team (U10 - U18) to provide a referee liaison for every league game. The
liaison can be a different person each game and can be anyone with the exception of the coach or
assistant coach. The name of the referee liaison MUST be marked in the area provided on the game
sheet. The team has a 15 minute grace period in which to provide a liaison or it will default the game.
Please ensure the ref liaison name is marked on the game sheet.
Background:
Referee abuse and harassment by spectators and coaches is the main reason why referees, particularly
those in their early teens, drop out of the development program resulting in severe shortage of
officials at all levels. This unacceptable behaviour towards our youth must be addressed as a priority
particularly if soccer is to have an adequate supply of referees.
All teams participating in the U10-U18 age groups, must designate an individual (does not have to be
the same person for each game) at each game (home and away) to act as a referee liaison. The
referee liaison of each team shall be a person who is not the coach or assistant coach and their main
role will be to act as a deterrent to possible acts of misbehaviour by spectators or team officials. The
referee liaison will also be available to the referee should a request to do so be made or if a potential
problem exists.
Description of duties:
Please wear the identifying armband provided by your team. This armband will be given to
the person who picks up the EMSA schedule on Oct 15th, 2014. If the referee requires your
assistance he will identify you by the armband.
Place yourself in the middle of the spectator stands at the Soccer Centre.
Monitor the behaviour of your teams’ parents and spectators.
Quickly diffuse potential problems before they arise by either being visible or calmly
speaking with the individual(s) involved.
Deal with, and act on, inappropriate comments, gestures and/or general unsporting
behaviour directed at referees, players or any other individual by your teams’ spectators or
coaches but please avoid getting into a confrontation.
Submit a brief report in writing to the EMSA office of any incident that you feel the EMSA
should be aware of involving inappropriate behaviour by ANY individual. Based on any
official report, the EMSA will conduct an investigation into the incident and act accordingly.

Coaches Code of Conduct
1. Head Coaches in MWSA are fully responsible for all activities of their team. They shall demonstrate
leadership, commitment, compassion, and fairness when interacting with their team’s players and
their parents/guardians.
2. All MWSA coaches (Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Team Managers) are representatives and
agents of MWSA. They shall demonstrate respect to its values and expectations, despite
 Their interests/involvement in a specific MWSA team;
 Any personal interest as an individual consumer of MWSA services;
 Like or dislike they may have for Board members, coaches or volunteers
3. MWSA coaches are trustees of public confidence. They need to serve as role models for the youth
under their care, to develop soccer skills, good sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and fair play.
4. MWSA coaches should avoid actual or the perception of conflict of interest. They shall not use
their position or role to gain advantage for their child (or another player on the team), or gain
financially from the team’s resources.
5. Coaches may speak for their team, but not for MWSA.
6. Coaches must demonstrate respect for and adherence to the rules of soccer, assigned referees,
and related MWSA Policies and Procedures.
7. Coaches must strive to extend each of their players to his/her full potential, and play hard towards
the highest possible reach of their team. However, coaches should never forget that in the end
Soccer is only a game.
Players’ Code of Conduct
1. Do your best! Your behavior reflects on you, your team, your coach, MWSA, and the sport of
Soccer. Your behavior impacts all of these.
2. Be a good sport
 Play hard, but play fair
 Play strong but have compassion for those who lose the game
 Play to win but remember that “winning” is doing your best against all odds
3. Be respectful

 Of people (i.e., of coaches, your teammates, other players, and referees)
 Of rules (i.e., the rules of soccer and their application by referees)
 Of existing policies and procedures (i.e., MWSA, EMSA, ASA)
4. Support your team
 Participate in practices and drills. They are important for skill and team development
 Work with the coaches to improve your and the team’s skills
 Be a team player, not a lone hero
5. Play safe! Ensure that your equipment and how you play the game are safe for you and all other
players in the game.
6. Enjoy Soccer fully, but remember that in the end Soccer is only a game.
Parents’ Code of Conduct
Your child’s coach is a volunteer giving up valuable personal time to guide your child’s recreational
activity. The Coach is NOT a babysitter and will not automatically assume the task of transporting

Please help the Coach to better meet your child’s needs:
 Avoid being a sideline coach. It confuses the players and frustrates coaches.
 Respect the coach's position as the team leader by not undermining his/her instructions to players.
 Support your child. Give praise not only for scoring, but also for doing his/her best and
contributing to the team
 Treat the coach with respect.
 Help your child's team and MWSA whenever and wherever you can. Your support and much
needed assistance make the difference between a rewarding, productive season and a mediocre,
frustrating one.
 Alert, as early as possible, your child’s coach or team official of your concerns
 Accept responsibility for your child's behavior at all team activities.

dignity. (You are a role model to your child and others.) If your effort to correct the situation directly
with the coach or team officials fails, please contact one of the following: The appropriate Community
League soccer representative (on page three) or the Community Chair Person.
