Chapter 1. What We Know About Dreadlocks
W HERE D ID D READLOCKS C OME F ROM ?
What we do know about dreadlocks is that they have been
around for decades and are not going anywhere.
The Hindu holy men of the east (Rastafarians) which are basically
Judeo-Christians of the Caribbean Islands wore dreads as part of
their religious lifestyle. The Rastafarians defied their dreads as
holy and powerful. Some negative.
Hindu yogis and holy men escaped to the Caribbean Islands with
their locs and began appearing in places like Jamaica where their
beliefs where adopted by others.
W HY D O W E W EAR L OCS T ODAY ?
Today wearing dreadlocks could be a new styling decision,
religious statement, or a lifestyle change. Locs have become an
acceptable hairstyle outside of the entertainment and
nonworking world. Yes, you were thought to be jobless if you
wore dreads. At one time you would be passed over for a job if
you wore dreadlock. This too is changing.
The beautiful ropes of hair are now made on everyone of your
international brothers and sisters!

Who knew that dreadlocks would be the style that units people?
The minute you lose your dreads it feels like you lost your key to a
sacred society. At least that’s how I felt when I removed mine.
B OB M ARLEY
Bob Marley is the prime master of dreadlocks. Dreadlocks are a
form of expression and a styling choice. Thanks to Bob Marley the
newer generations symbolizes locs with freedom, peace and love
as well as the music he left us.
T HE B EST D READLOCK T ECHNIQUE
When you chose this style you may not easily revert back.
Depending on your hair texture and dreadlock method you may or
may not be able to remove your dreadlocks.
It is best to determine how long you want your dreadlocks before
you determine the best technique to use. The longer you have
your locs the harder it is to take them out.

Professional Advice: Your image should reflect the respect you

be the representative? Believe me having neater locs will secure
your position. Image is important. It is your first impression.
The next impression will be when you open your mouth. Speak

There are many different types of hair but the hair I want to talk
about in this eBook is hard to loc hair. I know you have been
traveling the web and come across a lot of information already. I
just want to place the best information in one place so you can
refer to it whenever you’re ready.
S HAMPOOING DREADLOCKS when you have hair that is straight or
too soft to loc it is best to use residue free shampoo. Deep
cleansing shampoos that do not coat the hair will make the hair
easier to manipulate. There are many that use natural bar soaps.
Review this article with video “How To Shampoo Locs” to get
shampoo instructions and important ingredients.
Always allow locs to dry thoroughly. Wrap locs in thick towels to
absorb as much water as possible. Now do it again. Use a blow
dryer to help remove more water. Now you can allow your locs to
finish air-drying.

L OCKING A CCELERATOR is used to help soft or straight hair
during the locking process from sliding due to texture and outside
element when freshly shampooed or styled. It is sprayed on every
other day to help hair tighten and loc. You can make your own by
putting 2oz of lemon juice and a dash of sea salt in a bottle of
warm water 8oz.
A LOE V ERA G EL is a great gel to palm-roll your dreads to lay
down stray hairs after applying dreadlocks. It is good for your hair
and will shampoo out without leaving residue.
A VOIDING L ICE can be done by prevention. Never put your locs
on the ground or share towels or head gear. Use a little rosemary
oil or tea tree oil (20-30 drops)in your rinse water after
shampooing. You can use a bowl.
H OW T O KILL LICE - Get tea tree oil, eucalyptus and rosemary oil.
Mix equal parts together. 1 tsp each or more. Put into your
shampoo or baby shampoo and wash them well. Place a plastic
bag on your hair and solution to smother them over night if
possible. Shampoo again. Dry well. You will shampoo several
times.
Warning: Always thoroughly dry hair! The damp hair, waxes and
harsh shampoos causes buildup, breakage and rot.

FYI: Always use dark microfiber towels to prevent obvious lint and
absorb the most water possible. Use blow dryer or hood dryer
then finish air-drying. Do not over dry.
C HAPTER 3- D READLOCK E XTENSIONS
Synthetic Locs
D READLOCK EXTENSIONS are used to lengthen dreadlocks to
desired lengths. It doesn’t matter if you have hair down your
back. If you decide to have your hair dreaded you will lose most of
your natural length.
Copyright 2013 www. GetDreadlocks.blogspot.com All rights reserved.
Professional Tip: If shorter hair is uncomfortable get your client
some extensions. If you are giving someone dreadlocks for the
first time it is best to consult with them and let them know what
to expect.
It is best to have different lengths of extensions ready before you
need it to save time. Making loc extensions take time.
FYI: Selling extensions will bring you an extra stream of income.
W HAT E XTENSIONS ARE M ADE F ROM
S HEEP ( YARN )W OOL can be used in locs for a realistic feel. Use
light spun sheep wool yarn to avoid a sheep odor in wet locs. You
can add color to your locs.
K ANE K ALON H AIR is made of superior synthetic fiber. This hair is
durable, non flammable and has natural looking colors. You can
also dip locs made from kanekalon fiber in warm water to soften
locs.
H UMAN H AIR will create softer locs that can be colored and
bleached. You can buy the hair on a weft with is a row of hair for
weaving. After you make the dreadlocks you can cut them off
when they are needed.

Chapter 4- How To Loc Hard To Lock Hair
H OW TO M AKE D READS O N
S TRAIGHT /S OFT H AIR depends on how
long you want to keep them. If you want
your locs for a week you can lightly back
comb and palm-roll with a little aloe gel
rubbed in your palms.
For longer lasting dreadlocks the hair will
begin to lock with care and maintenance
overtime.
You can have permanent locks by extra back-combing and using
the crotchet method
Always begin with a clean head of dry hair that is free of all oils
and heavy product.
You can alter these instructions when you are comfortable with
the process.
You will be using the back-comb, twist, and crochet methods on
dry hair. A rubber band can hold the hair at the root before
beginning but is not necessary. It will be removed when you’re
finished.

Tools
Locking Accelerator- sea salt, lemon juice and water sprayed and
dried in the hair before beginning the back coming process.
Locking Peppa- Using a little on the root area and a very little
while working your way down the hair shaft will make this process
easier.
A flea comb is used for backcombing because of the edges that
ruff up the hair. The flea comb is not necessary if you use the
products above.
Crochet Needle Sizes Vary. Normally the 0.75 is what works for
most.
Flea Comb

0.75 is the best for maintenance. You should only use the crochet
needle when making, maintenance, attaching or repairing. Your
hair can become too tight and damaged from over tightening and
poking.
Warning: Don’t become addictive to the process! The crochet
method is not meant to use every day.
