Contact saw Ecurie Ecosse gracing the interna0onal stage with an impressive comeback season in the Bri0sh GT Championship and the Blancpain Endurance Series. A?er over a decade away from the sport the squad famous for flying the ScoDsh Sal0re in interna0onal motor racing for 60 years achieved overall wins and podiums in their 2011-‐spec Z4 GT3 car. Having narrowly missed out on the Bri0sh GT Championship and showing some strong performances in the Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-‐Am Championship, the team will run a similar programme in 2013 with the sole inten0on of winning both. S0ll under the watchful eye of original Ecurie Ecosse Associa0on Member, current Team Principal and Patron Hugh McCaig, pledging support to this unique opportunity ensures your company is aligned with the rich heritage and success enjoyed by one of motor racing’s most recognisable and revered global icons Despite fielding entries in the Formula One World Championship, it was in the realms of sportscar racing where Ecurie Ecosse originally forged its reputation as one of the most respected names in motor sport. Established by Edinburgh accountant David Murray in 1952, the Scottish team rose to prominence at the world-famous Le Mans 24 Hours where, in 1956 and ‘57, the plucky privateer outfit’s iconic metallic blue and white striped Jaguars triumphed over the similar factory-supported D-Types, as well as works Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche entries. In the early 1980s, and following an extended period away from the sport, it was left to lifelong fan Hugh McCaig to resurrect Ecurie Ecosse. Sticking to its true privateer routes the team entered the World Sportscar Championship, winning the C2 class title and finishing runnerup twice in the space of three seasons. With the demise of the WSCC, Ecurie Ecosse re-focused its efforts on the burgeoning British Touring Car Championship which culminated in securing the 1995 Teams’ and Drivers’ crowns. It was the first independent outfit in BTCC history to beat the manufacturerbacked teams. the team’s list of major honours is impressive enough, it only accounts for part of its rich heritage. Equally important are the star names to have cut their teeth behind the wheel of Ecurie Ecosse machinery down the years, with no less than three future Formula One World Champions – Jim Clark, Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Jack Brabham – as well as motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss, Grand Prix winner David Coulthard and two-times Le Mans 24 Hours victor Allan McNish amongst the celebrated roll call. MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS AND TITLES 1956: 1st – Le Mans 24 Hours 1957: 1st & 2nd – Le Mans 24 Hours 1985: Runner-up – C2 World Sportscar Championship 1986: Champions – C2 World Sportscar Championship 1987: 1st – Le Mans 24 Hours, Index Of Performance class* 2nd in class and 8th overall – Le Mans 24 Hours Runner-up – C2 World Sportscar Championship 1988: Champions – British Thunder Saloons Championship 1995: Champions – British Touring Car Championship *This is awarded for the best performance in terms of speed and fuel efficiency combined. of this great revival were sewn during the 2011 season’s 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium where, having proven the brand’s enduring appeal by attaining no less than 34 sponsors, Ecurie Ecosse lined up in a major international endurance race for the first time since 1993. And with original Team Principal Hugh McCaig presiding over matters from the pitwall, the team exceeded all expectations by recording the fastest time in one of the free practice sessions and out-qualifying a number of their factory-supported rivals. The imaginations of their loyal fans were captured further in the race where, on a fraction of the budget of their rivals, Ecurie Ecosse’s ageing dark blue and white Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 came home a fine ninth in class despite racing against much more seasoned opposition and losing two hours in the garage to an ECU problem. Those 24 hours, added to the thousands enjoyed in successful competition throughout the last six decades, acted as the catalyst for Ecurie Ecosse to pursue its full-time return to top flight action in 2012. saw Ecurie Ecosse return to interna0onal sportscar racing for a full season. This 0me, the weapon of choice was the potent BMW Z4 GT3 in the Bri0sh GT Championship and Blancpain Endurance Series. Alasdair McCaig and Oliver Bryant contested the UK Championship, whilst Joe Twyman and Andrew Smith were joined by former BMW Scholarship driver Ollie Millroy to contest the European Series. Barwell Motorsport were again chosen to run the Z4 and they turned out a faultless car all year. The season got off to an excellent start with Ecurie Ecosse winning at Oulton Park in their first race in the Bri0sh GT Championship. Bryant and McCaig followed this up with podiums at Brands Hatch and Silverstone (where Ollie Hancock stood in for Bryant). The Ecurie Ecosse BMW scored points in every round of the championship and this le? McCaig just half a point behind the leaders going into the final round at Donington Park in September. The championship was so compe00ve that 6 different drivers could leave Donington as Champion. McCaig was re-‐united with regular driving partner Bryant a?er a 2-‐month injury forced lay-‐off. With ten minutes to go in the two-‐hour race, it looked as though the pairing had done enough to secure the championship for Ecurie Ecosse and Alasdair at the first 0me of asking. Oliver was running 3rd on the road out of the points-‐ scoring runners. Disaster then struck as Oliver was handed a 1-‐minute stop-‐go penalty for accidental contact with the championship rival Ferrari. This dropped McCaig to 5th in the drivers standings much to the disappointment of the huge crowd of sponsors, friends and supporters in the Ecurie Ecosse garage. In the highly compe00ve Blancpain Endurance Series Ecurie Ecosse had some very promising showings against more up to date machinery. The season kicked off in miserable condi0ons at Monza, where Smith, Twyman and Millroy brought the car home an impressive 11th in class and 21st overall on the massive 55-‐car grid. At Paul Ricard, Oliver Bryant joined Twyman and Millroy. The trio were enjoying a very strong run, running 8th in class and 12th overall un0l fuel pick-‐up issues on the final lap dropped the car several places. Even so, the Ecurie Ecosse machine came home an impressive 13th in class and 20th overall. At the Nurburgring, Smith was back in the car alongside Twyman and Millroy and the trio enjoyed an excellent run in dry condi0ons. Unfortunately the smaller fuel tank in the 2011-‐spec BMW meant that they could not take advantage of a safety car period to re-‐fuel the car and therefore lost some posi0ons. Despite this, all three drivers did an excellent job and the result neeed a points finish of 10th in class and 20th overall. For the final round at Navarra, Smith, Twyman and Millroy were together once again and had their best run of the season. A podium finish was on the cards when the heavens opened and the safety car dropped the team a lap behind the rest of the pack. The team’s qualifying pace was outstanding with Millroy puDng in a 0me confirmed by the factory which was quicker than a 2011-‐spec Z4 has ever lapped on the circuit and would have been good enough for pole posi0on in the 2011 FIA GT3 Championship. The team made a big impression, surprising many of the bigger well funded teams by running at the front on a frac0on of the budget in older specifica0on machinery, proving that with a brand new 2013 car Ecurie Ecosse can challenge for overall class honours in the equally compe00ve GTC Class in the European Le Mans Series. Ecosse will return to the Bri0sh GT Championship again and take on a new challenge in the form of the European Le Mans Series in 2013. Two of GT racing’s most compe00ve and pres0gious series, these high profile championships provide Ecurie Ecosse with the perfect plagorm from which to ul0mately achieve its long-‐term ambi0on of returning to the scene of its greatest triumph: the Le Mans 24 Hours. Having learnt valuable lessons from its debut full season in 2012, Hugh McCaig’s ougit is now fully prepared to hit the ground running at the start of 2013. A brand new state of the art BMW Z4 GT3 has been ordered from the factory in Munich with all of the latest upgrades, and this will provide the team with the very best machinery with which to tackle both hotly contested domes0c and European championships. Unlike single-‐seaters, sportscar racing is more focused on endurance than sprint formats with championship rounds las0ng up to three hours. Oliver Bryant & Marco Aeard will once again tackle Bri0sh GT and Joe Twyman Andrew Smith, Alasdair McCaig and Ollie Millroy will drive the car in the European Le Mans Series. Both championships’ high profiles ensure they visit only the finest circuits. All five confirmed European Le Mans dates have or s0ll do host Formula 1, while no less than six former or current Grand Prix venues appear on the seven-‐round Bri0sh GT calendar. The European Le Mans series races aeract over 100,000 spectators to each round making the events some of the biggest European Motor races. The winner of the GTC class in 2013 gets an automa0c entry for the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours. With the various GT3 categories around the world proving the most compe00ve and manufacturer-‐rich in global motor sport, the German marque faced a tough task when launching the race-‐ready Z4 in 2010. Drawing on its own successful background in GT2 compe00on, as well as a storied racing history, the privately-‐entered BMWs quickly established themselves as the class of whatever field they entered, winning races in the FIA GT3 European Championship, triumphing at the 2011 Dubai 24 Hours and finishing second overall in last season’s Blancpain Endurance Series. Pole posi0on for both the 2011 and 2012 24 Hours of Spa events was also taken by independently run Z4 GT3’s ahead of the major factory teams including Audi. Last year that pedigree transfered to Bri0sh GT where Ecurie Ecosse’s Z4 GT3 became the first of its type to contest the championship, adding further flavour to a grid already comprising the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Mar0n, McLaren and Mercedes. Having a full complement of drivers and team personnel signed up to the programme at such an early stage ensures stability moving forward and a solid basis from which to progress with 2013’s plans. Hugh has been the integral driving force behind Ecurie Ecosse for nearly 30 years. Fuelled by enthusiasm for the team’s metallic blue D-Type’s as a youngster, the knowledge, expertise, determination and professionalism displayed in later life helped ensure the famous name returned to achieve success at the highest levels once installed in 1983. Achievements include winning the World C2 Sportscar Championship three years later as well as the British Touring Car Championship in 1995. their successful collaboration during last season, Ecurie Ecosse will once again call on the services of highlyrespected and experienced sportscar squad Barwell Motorsport to run its BMW Z4 GT3 throughout 2013. The Surrey-based outfit boasts a race and titlewinning history dating back to the 1960s since when it has overseen GT, sportscar, touring car, single-seater and historic racing programmes. 2005 witnessed the team’s first foray into the GT ranks with subsequent GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4 class apperances. Fresh from claiming the 2007 British GT title, its versatility and ability were noted by none other than Aston Martin Racing with whom Barwell played an integral role in the Vantage GT2’s development throughout ’08. Further British GT victories running Ginetta and Zytek Engineering’s factory G50Z followed before adding Belgian and Italian domestic GT programmes, as well as appearances in the 24 Hours of Spa and FIA GT3 European championship, to a highly-successful sportscar racing CV.
