In early 1979, a
small group of Deer
Parkians, led by Jeff
Smith and Jean Riggs,
met at the Deer Park
Community Center to
begin a script-reading
club. After several
weeks went by and
the number of people
attending grew, this
hardworking
and
talented group mounted their first production, Once Upon a Mattress. The city
of Deer Park recognized the love for the theatrical arts and was fortunate to hire
Sue Fenley Meyers as its Artistic and Managing Director. Our youth theatre
school began with six students and now has more than 250 eager young minds. In
April 2004, Susan Mele took over the reins after the retirement of Mrs. Meyers.
Under her direction the youth program is still growing. These students gain selfconfidence and grow their creativity through participation in a myriad of activities:
musical productions, plays, student directed shows, voice, dance, and modeling
classes....and the list goes on and on.

YAG is an organization in McKinney,
Texas dedicated to engaging youth ages
8-18 in live performance theatre. From
costume design to starring on stage,
the youth do it all with guidance and
oversight from theatre professionals and
adult volunteers. YAG gives youth the
opportunity to truly express themselves
and to do what they love with people that
share the same passion. When the show
is over and the curtain comes down,
“YAGers” are always able to take credit
for the success of their production. As
YAG approaches the end of our fourth
season, we are proud to say we perform
a variety of shows each year. We have
put on shows such as Hamlet, And A Child Shall Lead, The Emperor’s New
Clothes and The Yellow Boat. We are looking forward to our next season, and are
excited about performing at TNT once again.

Fort Bend Theatre (FBT)
was founded in 1989
in Sugar Land, Texas to
promote the arts and
education of the arts in the
community. Productions
were originally staged in a
local church, but as support
grew,
FBT
relocated
to Westwood Mall in
1991. FBT increased its
local outreach to such
worthwhile audiences as
the Ronald McDonald
House, Texas Children’s
Hospital, M.D. Anderson
Hospital, and Richmond
State School. In 1998, FBT
moved to Stafford, Texas. Over 100 productions and 400,000 excited audience members
later, FBT continues to thrive, expand, and strive for excellence and education in the arts,
while offering unique opportunities for cultural enrichment to all of Fort Bend County.
